Assa Abloy Security Solutions Launches First BIM Objects

ASSA ABLOY Security Solutions’ first-ever Building Information Modeling (BIM) objects are now available for specifiers and architects to download.

ASSA ABLOY Security Solutions has produced nine BIM doorset objects, designed to help architects and contractors who are under increasing pressure to use BIM building practices.

The nine objects are available from http://www.assaabloy.co.uk/BIM and are initially available on REVIT software with alternative versions to follow.

Although not compulsory, to further aid all disciplines involved in a building’s design and construction, the nine doorset objects introduced by ASSA ABLOY Security Solutions will be parametric. This increases the ease of interchangeability and flexibility, allowing for amends to be made to the overall model, which still preserve the design intent of the object.

Andy Stolworthy, Product Manager at ASSA ABLOY UK, said:
“The time-saving benefits and efficiency associated with BIM means there is a real drive for this practice to be adopted industry-wide, especially as the construction sector is still in the early stages of recovery.

“As the manufacturer of components that form a relatively small part of an overall build, it would be easy to assume that BIM was not applicable or necessary. However, we feel it is an important part of our overall specification solution. It is also because of the size of our products, relative to the rest of the build, that we felt it was helpful to launch nine doorset objects, providing specifiers and architects with a one-stop solution for hardware and doors across a range of different building types.”

BIM objects for hardware components will be available from ASSA ABLOY Security Solutions in 2014.

Mul-T-Lock Provides Peace of Mind at College of Psychic Studies

Mul-T-Lock’s patented MT5 key & cylinder platform has been installed at the College of Psychic Studies by ATCL Locksmiths to restrict the unauthorised distribution of keys and ensure its security can operate from a single master key system, without compromising on the 19th century architecture.

Based in the heart of London, The College of Psychic Studies was founded in 1884 as an educational charity to offer courses for students seeking to explore a consciousness beyond matter.

However, with a number of different and aged cylinder platforms on site securing the College, security of students and staff was being compromised.

ATCL Locksmiths recommended Mul-T-Lock’s MT5 patented key & cylinder range, to provide enhanced key security and strong tamper resistance. The system has now been fitted throughout the College, without impacting on the aesthetics and only authorised personnel can now distribute keys.

Jackie Coe at The College of Psychic Studies said:
“The College is one of the oldest establishments of its kind and it is our responsibility to make sure it’s looked after. Any refurbishment measures must be carefully considered with regards to how it will impact on the aesthetics of the overall premises.

“ATCL demonstrated the advantages of MT5 and the Trustees were especially impressed with the flexibility of the master key system and its ability to incorporate all of our key access requirements. The MT5 system has now been installed throughout the College, with minimum disruption to learning timetables or everyday operations.”

MT5 is the first cylinder in the UK to be supported by a unique key authorisation magnetic strip card to ensure tight control of key duplication.

Ollie Farrow at ATCL Locksmiths added:
“The College of Psychic Studies presented a number of challenges primarily due to the ornate period construction of the doors and frames. MT5 offered a cost effective solution that is clean and simple to install and ensures security and access for the entire premises can be carefully managed at all times.”

Steve Ross, Managing Director of Mul-T-Lock, concluded:
“The College of Psychic Studies is a perfect example of how an MT5 master key suite can enhance security arrangements in an educational environment and respect the historical nature of its surroundings. Here, this ensures tutors and students can continue to study and develop at their own pace, with peace of mind they are in a safe and secure environment.”

For more information on MT5 and the full range of security solutions available from Mul-T-Lock, please visit www.mul-t-lock.co.uk

Allegion unveiled as new name for Ingersoll Rand’s Security Technologies Division

Allegion has been unveiled as the new name for Ingersoll Rand’s Security Technologies division following the spinoff from its parent company.

The new company, which will be headquartered in Ireland, has a substantial presence in the UK, due to its portfolio of well-known brands, such as Briton, Dor-O-Matic, Martin Roberts, CISA, Interflex, Normbau, Randi and Schlage.

Allegion’s UK business will continue to be based at its head office in Walsall in the West Midlands, which employs more than 270 staff to service and support the UK market. Other than the name change the company has made no changes to its normal account management structure or the regular sales contacts for its customers.

Allegion, which will be a stand-alone company focused solely on security technologies, will operate in more than 120 countries around the world and has revenues of $2 billion per year.

Mark Hoskins, Vice President Sales at Allegion, commented:
“Allegion is a new name, but the company has a long heritage in manufacturing and supplying state-of-the-art security products and solutions into the UK market. Our technical expertise remains and the message to customers is very much business as usual.”
He continued:
“Allegion is now very much a stand-alone and focused company solely dedicated to security technologies. We are confident that our customers in the UK will quickly come to recognise and trust the Allegion name and that it will become synonymous with commercial and residential security.”

ATS Euromaster introduces Seasonal Vehicle Checks and Fluid Top-Ups for just £20

ATS Euromaster is offering fleets a cost-effective way to keep their cars and vans in excellent mechanical order despite increasing manufacturer service intervals.

The nationwide tyre and SMR expert has introduced a new 20-point winter seasonal inspection and fluid top-up service to guard against the most common reasons for cars and vans breaking down. Costing just £20, it is more detailed than traditional free vehicle health check programmes and offers great value for money.

Peter Fairlie, Group Sales Director at ATS Euromaster, says:
“Fleets have told us they want the added reassurance of an experienced technician inspecting their vehicles in between services, which can be as far as 20,000 miles apart.

“Our new seasonal checks help to protect against unexpected and costly downtime whilst boosting duty of care.”

In addition to a range of vehicle tyre health checks, the seasonal inspections include a levels check for oil, clutch fluid, brake fluid, power-steering fluid and screen wash, with free top-ups (as appropriate). Technicians also inspect the dashboard for warning lights, operation of the air-conditioning system, horn, lights, drive belts, wiper blades, washer jets and cooling system. They also remove all wheels for a thorough brake inspection, plus clean and lubricate battery connections where required.

Fairlie adds:
“We think it’s the best £20 a fleet or motorist can invest in their vehicle. Even if the inspection confirms a car or van is in excellent mechanical order, the customer still drives away with a handy 1 litre of Shell oil and boot pouch courtesy of ATS Euromaster, to keep for a future occasion.”
The seasonal vehicle inspections draw on ATS Euromaster’s expertise and the latest technology to give customers total confidence in their vehicles. The inspections can be booked at nearly 200 ATS Euromaster service centres nationwide and are suitable for all makes and model of car and van up to 3.5
tonnes.

IronmongeryDirect Targets Tradesmen with new Mobile Marketing Campaign

The UK’s largest supplier of ironmongery products has launched a new mobile marketing campaign to promote its latest app to tradesmen on the go.

IronmongeryDirect is targeting tradesmen who need to place orders on the move and the campaign builds on its already successful app, which was launched earlier this year so customers could view and purchase its range of products on their phones.

The highly targeted SMS-based campaign provides two separate offers, with the first designed to encourage free downloads of the app from the Apple App Store and Google Play. Customers who download the app are entitled to 25 per cent off their first order, which they can make after browsing through some of the 14,500 items sold by IronmongeryDirect.

The second offer invites customers to register and be sent £50 worth of vouchers via email, which can then be spent on IronmongeryDirect products.

IronmongeryDirect has partnered with leading mobile marketing company The Mobile House to help facilitate the campaign, and both offers have been sent out as targeted texts to existing and potential customers including DIY enthusiasts, tradesmen and people who have recently moved house.

The campaign has already proved to be a hit, with around 75,000 texts sent out and a 3.3 per cent click-through rate. IronmongeryDirect’s app has also soared up the Apple business app charts, far exceeding expectations.

Stuart Wilson, marketing director at Ironmongery Direct, said:
“We have long been known as an innovative and technologically advanced business and we launched our app in April to cater for the evolving needs of our customers who can now access our products via their phones.

“We are delighted with the results we’ve seen from this initial campaign and are looking at ways to incorporate mobile generally and SMS specifically into our wider marketing strategy for next year.”

P C Henderson is Highly Commended at the Construction Marketing Awards

P C Henderson is delighted to announce it has been ‘Highly Commended’ at this year's Construction Marketing Awards (CMA) for Best Digital Campaign.

"We're delighted that the judges have recognised our work at these prestigious industry Awards. It’s a great achievement to be highly commended and is something the whole company can be proud of. We are dedicated to producing the best material and information to share with our customers” says P C Henderson’s Marketing Manager, Gemma Smith.
The company has also recently designed ‘Henderson on the move’ a free web app that is suitable for all smart phones and tablets which provides all of its brochures and technical information when our customers are away from the office.

Gemma Smith comments on the entry for Best Digital Campaign;
“We are always looking at methods of reducing our carbon footprint whilst saving money on the production of printed marketing material. Due to the nature of our industry there are often small design modifications that could have an impact on the information supplied in a brochure, and with a global distribution network, it was decided to update our brochures digitally to offer an alternative to a printed copy.”

P C Henderson was also shortlisted for Best Mobile campaign. The CMAs recognise marketing excellence across the built environment. The Award ceremony took place on Thursday 5th December at the Radisson Blu Hotel in west London.

P C Henderson Ltd  are a British company specialising in the design, manufacture and supply of sliding and folding door hardware in the UK and currently export to over 70 countries around the globe.

‘Partners against crime’: Sierra teams up with Yale

Sierra Windows has introduced Yale’s shootbolt window gear to enable customers to maximise the amount of safety and effectiveness offered to homeowners.

Paignton based Sierra Windows has added Yale’s shootbolt window gear to its home security offering to complement the Yale 8 superior multipoint locking solution for PVC-U hinged doors.

High security windows are essential not only for homeowner’s peace of mind, but can also factor into insurance issues. The Yale window gear is concealed within the window and inhibits movement through securing the inner and outer frames.

Says Adrian Harlock, general manager at Sierra Windows:
“Windows are arguably now more of a vulnerable home security risk than doors, so we really did our homework in sourcing the best options for security. Sierra’s choice of dependability, technology and a proven history of high quality is once again Yale.

“Ultimately, the brand association with Yale itself is just as important as the product solution. Consumer brands within the door and window industry are few and far between, but Yale is a household name. We believe that delivers an instant advantage to our customers when they are sitting down in front of a homeowner.”

Sierra Windows now presents Yale’s shootbolt window gear to deliver optimal security performance and supreme weatherproofing, through easy adjustment of the bespoke ‘anti-separation’ mushroom cams.

Together with the specialist Yale 8 multipoint lock portfolio, itself is designed to offer exceptional strength and versatility, Sierra Windows can deliver complete security solutions for a home, without compromising on quality or aesthetics.

Kevin Hill, Managing Director of Yale Door and Window Solutions, added:
“By Sierra committing to offering window and door solutions from Yale, the industry’s most widely recognised consumer brands in security, there is an instant reassurance factor through the complete supply chain.

“For Sierra’s customers, Yale is an international brand and one of the oldest names in the business, offering an unparalleled advantage in terms of customer recognition and selling power. And for homeowner’s the brand association, clearly visible on our products, provides the ultimate peace of mind that products are guaranteed to exceed insurance requirements and ensure their home and possessions are safe and secure.”

Mul-T-Lock and Newark & Sherwood do their homework for John Davies Primary School

Newark & Sherwood Locksmiths has worked with John Davies Primary School to design a scaleable security solution to upgrade the facilities from mechanical locking to access control, using Mul-T-Lock’s innovative SMARTair™ system.

Nottinghamshire based John Davies Primary School promotes positive behaviour by creating an atmosphere of trust, security and mutual respect. With a new headteacher in place, upgrading security on site was placed as a high priority for pupils and staff.

The school made contact with local Mul-T-Lock dealers Newark & Sherwood Locksmiths located in the heart of Newark town. Following an investigative site visit Newark & Sherwood presented a security specification based on Mul-T-Lock SMARTair™ installation throughout the school.

Recently, Mul-T-Lock SMARTair™ wall readers have been fitted externally to secure the perimeter of the school whilst internal office doors, including the Head teacher’s office have been fitted with innovative SMARTair™ electronic handle sets.

Mr Robert Della–Spina, Headteacher at John Davies Primary School said:
“In order to teach and to learn, staff and pupils must feel safe and secure. This is my absolute priority for my new school, right from the perimeter and the site boundaries and throughout all internal areas.

“We are very satisfied with the service and support we get from Newark & Sherwood and from Mul-T-Lock too, who between them recommended SMARTair™ to bring all the convenience and added benefits of access control. Right from the start of the rolling works program to upgrade security, we have already been impressed with the quick installation and how easy the system is to use.”

SMARTair™ is a high performance cost efficient wireless access control system that is easy to install and functions on a standalone basis, whilst having no impact on design or aesthetics.

Says Dale Bennett of Newark & Sherwood Locksmiths:
“SMARTair™ offers extensive features normally associated with a sophisticated access control system. With the variety in the product portfolio to operate on any external or internal application, we have product solutions for all types of access points, making the overall supply and installation costs attractive to educational environments. SMARTair™ is a very durable design and is well suited to withstand high traffic areas such as a primary school environment, like John Davies Primary School, and offer excellent safety, security and convenience to all who attend.”

Steve Ross, Managing Director of Mul-T-Lock concluded:
“What Newark & Sherwood has demonstrated is that by working with the school early in the specification process, quality products such as Mul-T-Lock SMARTair™, that meet specific requirements can be recommended, and installed to help to ensure staff and pupils can work and learn in a safe and secure school environment, without affecting every day operations or the aesthetics of an educational facility.”

Executive Chairman Bill Ford introduced the new Mustang at Ford’s special “Go Further” event to an audience of around 2,500 journalists, dealers and employees, in Barcelona, Spain – one of six cities across four continents where the new Mustang was simultaneously revealed.

The new Ford Mustang fastback and convertible models promise world-class levels of performance and refinement while embracing the Mustang’s half-century of heritage and status as a global icon.
“Ford Mustang inspires passion like no other car,” said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development. “The visceral look, sound and performance of Mustang resonate with people, even if they’ve never driven one. Mustang is definitely more than just a car – it is the heart and soul of Ford.”

More than 9 million Mustangs have been sold since it was first launched in 1964. The world’s most-liked vehicle on Facebook, Mustang has made thousands of appearances in film, television, music and video games, and is one of 25 new vehicles that Ford will launch in Europe in the next five years.
“The Mustang’s formidable reputation for performance and its iconic status as a symbol of freedom and optimism precedes it even in those parts of the world where the car has never been sold,” said Stephen Odell, Ford executive vice president, Europe, Middle East and Africa. “The new Mustang epitomises Ford’s aggressive product acceleration; technologically advanced and forward-looking, but without forgetting the heritage that has inspired Ford customers for generations.”

The new Mustang has been developed with world-class performance, driving dynamics and usability in mind – and includes a significant amount of advanced driver convenience and driver aid technologies.

“The new Mustang is one of the most hotly anticipated cars ever, we are very excited to now give drivers in Europe the opportunity to experience the real thing,” said Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford of Europe.

Unmistakably Mustang
The clean-sheet design of both Ford Mustang fastback and convertible evokes the essential character of the vehicle, retaining key design elements of the classic Mustangs recognisable to car fans across Europe, including the long sculpted hood and short rear deck, with a contemporary execution.

“You only get one chance to make a first impression and when you see this car, you immediately see a Mustang strong and true,” said Moray Callum, Ford executive director, design, The Americas.

Several key design features define the new Ford Mustang, including:
•    A low roof height and wide stance
•    Sleek profile enabled by steeply sloped windshield and rear glass
•    Three-dimensional, tri-bar taillamps
•    Contemporary execution of the iconic car’s signature shark-bite front fascia

Ford Mustang convertible drivers will appreciate the standard multilayer insulated cloth top that gives the car an upscale appearance and a quiet cabin. The top has a sleek profile when folded for open-air motoring.

Large, clear instrumentation puts vehicle information right in front of the driver in the roomy cabin with an aviation-inspired cockpit, while ergonomic and tactile switches and knobs provide control. The vehicle’s width and new rear suspension contribute to improved shoulder and hip room for passengers and a usefully shaped bootspace that can accommodate two golf bags.

The Mustang experience
The way Ford Mustang looks, drives and sounds is key to the visceral experience. The Ford Mustang offers outstanding power options and chassis configurations refined to meet the driving dynamics expectations of European drivers.

Ford’s acclaimed 5.0 litre V8 engine – yielding more than 426 PS and 529 Nm of torque – is joined by an all-new 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine that brings state-of-the-art technology to Mustang; delivering turbocharged performance with the fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions demanded by Europe’s car consumers.

“This EcoBoost engine delivers where a Mustang driver expects it to with a broad, flat torque curve that pours out when you stand on it for easy passing or hustling down a twisty road,” said Dave Pericak, Mustang chief engineer.

The Mustang’s 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine uses direct injection, variable cam timing and turbocharging to deliver usable performance. A unique intake manifold and turbocharger housing enable it to deliver the performance Mustang drivers expect, with output projected at more than 309 PS and 407 Nm of torque. An automatic transmission option features steering wheel-mounted shift paddles for drivers who want the choice between convenience and control.

A Mustang for the true driving enthusiast
The new Ford Mustang features all-new front and rear suspension systems. At the front, a new perimeter subframe helps to stiffen the front structure while reducing mass, providing a strong foundation for more predictable wheel control that benefits handling, steering and ride.

The new double ball-joint front MacPherson strut system also enables the use of large, powerful brakes. Both 2.3 litre EcoBoost and V8-powered GT Mustang models will feature performance brake packages behind standard 19 inch wheels in Europe.

At the rear is an all-new integral-link independent rear suspension. The geometry, springs, dampers and bushings all have been specifically modified and tuned for this high-performance application, and are well-suited to European roads and high speed driving culture. New aluminium rear knuckles help reduce unsprung mass for improved ride and handling.

Smart technology
The new Mustang features a significant number of innovative technologies providing drivers with enhanced information, control, and connectivity when they want it.

On a twisty back road or a weekend track day, the driver can tap the toggle switches on the console to quickly adjust steering effort, engine response, and transmission and electronic stability control settings using the available Selectable Drive Modes to create the perfect Mustang at any time.

The advanced, Ford-developed stability control is tuned to maximise the new Mustang’s dynamic capabilities with features like torque vectoring that directs engine power to individual wheels to keep the car on course. When the time comes to turn up the wick at the track, manual transmission variants of the Mustang GT include standard launch control that enables drivers to achieve smooth, consistent starts every time.

Advanced driver-assist features include standard Ford SYNC with Voice Control and Touchscreen, that lets drivers control their entertainment. Also available for Mustang drivers in Europe will be a navigation system utilising the 8-inch central colour screen in conjunction with a premium 12-speaker sound system.

50 years of Mustang
April 17, 2014, marks the 50th anniversary of the introduction of the original Ford Mustang. Mustang will continue to be built in America at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant.

“From day one, we knew if we were going to build a new Mustang, we had to do it right,” Pericak said. “We built a new Mustang from the ground up that is fast, great-looking, refined and efficient, without losing any of the raw appeal that people around the world have associated with Mustang for decades.”

Alutech Group increases Production Capacity with New Extruded Profiles Factory

The ALUTECH Group of companies has doubled its production capacity of aluminium extruded profiles.

AluminTechno, the factory that manufactures the extruded profiles, has just completed the construction of a second extrusion plant. Four more new workshops were added to the current ones; a workshop for extrusion moulding, an anodizing plant, a powder-coating facility and a new area for packing of aluminium profiles. The total production capacity of the factory now totals 45-48 000 tones of the extruded profiles per annum.

The new workshop for extrusion moulding includes two lines of 7 inch presses allowing  a substantial expansion of the product range.  Now AluminTechno consists of 6 extrusion lines: two 5 inch presses, three 7 inch presses and one 9 inch press.

The launch of the second anodizing workshop increased the total capacity by 10 000 tones of anodized profiles per annum. The new line is fully automated and equipped with machines from one of the leading suppliers of anodizing equipment in the world.

The new powder-coating line is twice as productive as the current one. Two independent chambers for powder-coating make it possible to powder-coat two batches of extruded profiles in different colours simultaneously.

The automatic logistics system has contributed greatly to increase of the production capacity. It unites the extrusion moulding and powder-coating workshops, aging ovens, anodizing line and stillages used to hold stocks of product. Two new packing lines for the finished goods were launched to process 40 tonnes of the profiles daily. The packing cycle of the lengths is only 22 seconds.

Quality of the extruded profiles meets the highest requirements of standards DIN17615, EN 755-1, EN 755-2, EN 12020. The quality of powder-coating meets the standards required by the Swiss certificates Qualicoat/Seaside, and Qualanod.
