Assa Abloy Security Solutions Supports Customers with Changes to CE Marking

With the introduction of the Construction Products Regulation it has become mandatory to CE mark certain products in relevant applications; ASSA ABLOY Security Solutions offers a range of products that meet the new requirements, and the knowledge to support its customers.

Having met the relevant characteristics under the new CE marking system – verified in the newly collated Declaration of Performance (DoP) documentation – customers of ASSA ABLOY Security Solutions can be confident that the high performance door solutions meet are able to with current market directives.

The successful declaration comes as changes to the CE marking system came into effect on July 1st this year, as a result of the existing Construction Products Directive (CPD) – a legislative act under the European Union – being updated and replaced.

The replacement of the CPD with the Construction Products Regulation (CPR) means that CE Marking of certain component products and entire door systems is no longer optional, and that it is now an offence to place a non CE-marked construction product on the market if it is covered by a harmonised standard.

As well as offering those products requiring the CE mark under the changes to the European Directive, ASSA ABLOY Security Solutions has also worked hard to highlight those products to which the changes do not apply, countering pervasive confusion in the market.

Andy Stolworthy, Product Manager for ASSA ABLOY Security Solutions, explains more:
“There is much misinformation circulating with regards to the changes, given the depth and complexity of the related standards and the caveats and exceptions that need to be understood.
“ASSA ABLOY Security Solutions places a lot of value on in-depth industry knowledge; it’s crucial for our customers to understand why certain products can’t be CE marked or, in fact, are not required to be CE marked at all, and which applications these exceptions relate to.

“For door assemblies, i.e. where components come from more than one source, all relevant components covered by a harmonised standard should be CE Marked separately. Some hardware, though, does not need to be CE marked. This relates to its application; pay close attention to Annex ZA of the relevant harmonised standard, which details the intended use of the product and explains for what use or application the product is required to be CE marked.

“Leading up to the changes, we have issued a whole host of communications with our customers, in order that they fully understand the changes to the CE marking system, and the implications on their continued trading.

“The process has been long, and has taken much investment and commitment. It’s an ongoing process and we will continue to provide education and support so that our customers are fully equipped to continue to succeed in what is an increasingly competitive market. I hope that this demonstrates our commitment to keeping up with the latest industry legislation.”
