IronmongeryDirect has supplied architectural ironmongery to builders, joiners and shop fitters for 45 years, having been founded as a traditional ironmonger’s shop. It now stocks more than 14,500 products and last year extended its cut-off time for next day delivery to 8pm and introduced a free returns guarantee, making it even more convenient for tradesmen to order.
The business attracted over 53,000 new customers in 2013 and will continue to focus on enhancing the service, to maintain its high customer retention rate and welcome even more over the coming 12 months.
As tradesmen increasingly embrace digital technologies and mobile devices, the firm’s omnichannel retail strategy contributed to a further boost. IronmongeryDirect’s app, which launched in April, had over 11,000 downloads, plus there was an increased overall use of the company’s mobile site to place orders following the introduction of this service in 2012. The free app was launched to mark the 10th anniversary of IronmongeryDirect’s website and complements the mobile and desktop sites, while customers can still browse and order products from the firm’s 900 page catalogue.
Last year also saw the company get acquired by Manutan Group, a leading European mail order supplier to business and local authorities. With this, IronmongeryDirect continues to strengthen its position in the UK market and Manutan will further support the on-going, strong growth of IronmongeryDirect.
IronmongeryDirect’s managing director, Wayne Lysaght-Mason, said:
“These results reflect a strong year for IronmongeryDirect and reinforce our position as the UK’s largest specialist distributor of ironmongery for the trade.
“Our performance has been driven by focusing on what our customers want and we have reached out to new and existing customers via a more flexible ordering process. In particular, we have extended our already market-leading cut-off time for next day delivery, introduced a free returns guarantee, as well as building upon the success of our mobile site by introducing our new app to enhance our offering. All of this has taken place against the background of a highly successful and mutually beneficial relationship with Manutan Group.”
