Thousands of hours of development creating new category of doors with built-in screens and shades recognised by industry award.

Tens of thousands of hours of development paid off last night (23/10/14) when Centor Integrated Doors beat off six other door manufacturers to scoop the ‘Best Glazed Doors’ category, presented by Hugh Dennis at the 2014 Build It Awards.

The world’s first integrated doors were launched late last year in the UK and feature concealed hardware and built-in insect screens and shades that retract completely into the doorframes, leaving uninterrupted views of the beautiful world outside. It was this groundbreaking design that caught the judges’ eye, the fact that the door system enables homeowners to control sunlight, insects, privacy and airflow, thereby enabling them to enjoy inside-outside living without compromise.

The groundbreaking doors were the result of a complete transformation of Centor’s business strategy and have taken four years of intensive design to deliver to market. Centor Europe’s General Manager Peter Watkins was at the ceremony to accept the award.
“Integrated doors have had an amazing reception from homeowners for both their beautiful operation and aesthetics,” he said, adding; “It’s an honour to be recognised for something we’ve put our heart and soul into for years. This award further confirms for us that these doors are destined to change the window and door industry forever.”
Centor’s Managing Director, Nigel Spork added that having a clear direction allowed Centor to produce a world-first design.
“At Centor, we believe the world is beautiful and our mission has been helping people make the most of the world outside. Traditionally, doors are an inherent compromise,” he said. “Large patio doors have great views, but offer little privacy. Heavy curtains keep houses warm, but make rooms feel small, and insect screens are only needed part of the year but obstruct our views 24/7.”
Mr Spork said that Centor’s expertise gained over the last 63 years had allowed it to develop such a unique product.
“Centor is the only window and door company in the world to take ownership of the design of all components in a door system, doors, hardware, screens and shades,” he said. “It has allowed us to deliver a design that’s truly considered, down to the last detail and one that’s truly unique with 14 international patents pending for integrated doors ”
