ThermaRoll – Go Big, Go Small, No Compromise on Quality

Garage Door Specialists spend most of their time fitting standard products into standard-ish (!) openings. When things head towards the extremes of sizing – extra high openings or tight clearances, the products chosen must inspire confidence. Confidence in the product to provide a proven solution, fuss-free installation and no call-backs.

Garage Door Systems ThermaRoll has established itself as a product to trust and has dedicated solutions to the extremes of size.

GO BIG…
Doors over 2700mm high create a large curtain roll. To keep the curtain running smoothly and the roll size to a minimum, ThermaRoll uses a traveling carriage that tracks back and forth as the door opens and closes.

The carriage is pre-fitted to the motor end of the barrel and is simple and quick to locate onto the track  that is also pre-fitted to the 360mm endplate. At the dummy-end of the barrel the Gaposa safety brake is pre-fitted to the carriage and is, again, easy and quick to locate onto the pre-fitted track on the 360mm endplate and secure the barrel shaft in position.

A well-engineered and extremely reliable solution for large doors is the result.

GO SMALL…
Most compact roller doors are a poor second to their larger siblings with lightweight barrels that flex and flimsy locking straps that are prone to snapping. Often fitted within the reveal, a reliable solution is essential.

In steps the ThermaRoll 55. 205mm headroom makes it ideal for limited space, between fix installations. The 65mm steel barrel is dependably strong and the autolocks are heavy duty and durable making ThermaRoll 55 the strongest compact roller on the market.

A common problem with compact doors is, because of the doors light weight, the safety edge can fail to trigger in the early stages of its closing cycle – typically when a car has been left in the opening.  ThermaRoll 55 has a weighted bottom bar to ensure the safety edge works every time.

What about those every-day sizes?

Mark McEvoy, Garage Doors Systems’ Commercial Director, commented:
“The no-compromise on quality approach we took when designing ThermaRoll to meet our “no call-backs” objective, means we have an optimised and proven solution for every installation scenario. Big, small and everything in-between and all backed with our 100% commitment to customer service”.

The Summer Issue of Door Industry Journal is now available online

After around three weeks in production, the Summer edition of DIJ was finally published online in time for the weekend late on Thursday evening!

As I wrote this introduction in preparation for the launch last week, Boris Johnson had just been announced as our new PM. He spoke of optimism and the ‘spirit of can do’ in his acceptance speech, and we can only hope this translates into some certainty that gets the country back on track.

What is certain is that you’ll find plenty to absorb you in the Summer edition of the DIJ. So grab a cold drink, or an ice cream (or both) and get to grips with all the latest news and views from across the door industry.

It’s a content-packed issue - here’s some highlights:

  • Jo Milne-Rowe - Chair of the Institute of Architectural Ironmongers and National Sales Manager at Codelocks - shares her thoughts on her role and the future of access control (page 20)

  • Find out about YOURDOOR - a new and unique concept in the garage door sales and installation market (page 60)

  • Jewers recently installed a 10-leaf Osprey sliding folding door on a Dubai fire station that services the Gulf’s only dry dock facility (page 92)

  • IN2 Access, exclusive UK and Ireland distributor of BBC Bircher Smart Access products, tries ExpertLine - the Swiss firm’s first ever self-assembly safety edge (page 102)

  • Access and security solutions firm dormakaba, has launched its first revolving direct drive, which boasts ultra-thin design and modular functionality (page 106)

  • Norseal’s Michael Spoors explores the issues to consider when building or specifying acoustic door sets (page 110)

  • Read about the ongoing success of the fire door training courses being offered by the dhf and BRE Academy (page 114)

  • See how architectural ironmongers John Planck Ltd were involved with the transformation of old Scotland Yard - former home of the Met Police - into a five–star hotel (page 123)

  • Take a break, and find out the definition of OLD – as well as a few other funnies! (page 128)

And with that, I’ll leave you to enjoy your summer. I hope you have a good rest and recharge those batteries – you’ll hear from me again in a few months.

Purr-fect - Some of the Finest Jaguars available to be Auctioned by Classic Car Auctions

1969 Jaguar E-Type Series 2 Manual 4.2 Roadster

Classic Car Auctions are heading to the Warwickshire Event Centre in a weeks time with their largest catalogue ever which include some of the finest Jaguars being offered.

Never ceasing to amaze, just when you think you have seen something truly special then weeks later something else appears. In this case a 1969 E-type with what is believed to be a correct 11,800 miles, followed by a 1961 Mk2 3.4 with 15,000 miles. If it something more modern that you are considering, then a 1991 XJS Convertible or at the top end a future classic is the XKR from a private collection of Jaguars.

This 1969 E-type was supplied new to British Leyland New York before returning to the UK in 2014 where it underwent extensive restoration to a very high standard and was converted to right-hand-drive. Amazingly this car’s mileage is 11,800 miles and a letter in the substantial history file from one of the earliest owners seems to confirm this.

Estimated at £60,000 to £70,000 this Series 2 manual 4.2 Roadster in Primrose Yellow is certainly going to attract attention and coming with a hardtop as well as new mohair hood, this car is ready for all of the British weather.

1961 Jaguar Mk 2 3.4

The Mark 2 Jaguar, made famous in the TV series Inspector Morse, is such a classic British car and treated with fondness. Could this be why this car, when purchased new and residing in South Africa, was stored by the first owner for 24 years.

As a possible result of this long term storage the car has just 15,000 unwarranted miles on the clock but due to its history could be genuine. When the car came out of hibernation in 2012 it underwent restoration with a photographic record and gained a Heritage Certificate, now estimated at £20,000 to £25,000.

1991 Jaguar XJS Convertible V12 5.3

The Jaguar XJS was facelifted under the ownership of Ford and this 1991 V12 Convertible is one of those cars, featuring the wrap-around rear lights and slightly less chrome than its predecessor. These versions are very desirable and this car is in stunning condition having just arrived from a warmer climate.

Estimated at £17,000 to £20,000 presented in Radiant Red and a black interior it has just 41,299 warranted miles. It will be UK registered in time for its first UK owner.

Simon Langsdale Classic Car Auctions Specialist commented:
“We have sold a few this year, in March we sold a very similar car with similar mileage and almost identical in colour for £26,000, so this XJS will sell well, and they are definitely going up in value.”
2010 Jaguar XKR

The final car in our Jaguar selection is the 2010 XKR. A facelifted model which came with the rotary gear selector and a 5.0-litre supercharged V8. This particular car was bought five months after it was first registered by its second and only owner who then added it to his private collection of Jaguars.

With 31,000 warranted miles and a great service history, this car is estimated at £26,000 to £29,000 and is possibly going to be a future classic styled by the now-famous Ian Callum.

Gary Dunne, Classic Car Auctions auction manager commented:
“This selection is just wonderful, the E-type and the Mark 2 are cracking cars and will give the new owners so much pleasure. The XKR is a bruiser of a Jaguar and with effectively one owner will be a great purchase.”
“We are very proud of the Jaguars we offer, we sell a lot of cars from this manufacturer and achieve very good results regardless of their conditions and with plenty of other Jaguars in the sale there is certain to be one for the enthusiast and collector.”

Viewing takes place on Friday 2nd August from 10am to 6pm with the auction getting underway on Saturday the 3rd from 10.30am.

Classic Car Auctions can be contacted on 01926 640888 or email enquiries@classiccarauctions.co.uk and would be happy to talk with you about any of the cars consigned, alternatively, have a chat with them on the day.

ASSA ABLOY encourages installers to attend free SMARTair® training course

The ASSA ABLOY Door Hardware & Access Control Group is encouraging installers to sign-up to one of its upcoming training courses on its innovative wireless access control system, SMARTair®.

The course is free to attend and offers installers everything they need to know to help sell and install SMARTair®, while also providing an informative overview of the wireless access control system’s capabilities and benefits.

Taking place at the ASSA ABLOY Academy in Willenhall, the course will cover the technical aspects of how to install, set up and commission a SMARTair® system. It also provides guidance on site surveys and how to identify and resolve common faults, meaning security professionals can offer a complete solution to their customers.

SMARTair® delivers real-time access control, so organisations can stay in control of who has entered a building, where and when. Multiple user groups can be easily managed with minimum fuss, with features such as time schedules and permissions calendars ensuring access rights are only allowed when needed.

Allegion launches new-generation wireless mortice lock in the UK

Allegion UK, a leading specialist in fire safety and security hardware, has launched a new generation of wireless mortice lock in the UK.

The Schlage LE mortice lock with ENGAGE™ technology has been developed specifically to extend effective electronic access control throughout the interior of a building, in addition to exterior doors, providing a single, secure locking device for the whole of a building.

Ideal for multiple commercial settings, as well as higher education institutions, senior living homes and medical facilities, the Schlage LE mortice lock with ENGAGE™ technology is easy to install, connect and manage.

Trevor Ball, Allegion business development manager UK and Ireland, said the positive feedback and sales it has received in the USA since its launch in 2017 has helped to accelerate the product’s introduction to the UK.

“Sales of the Schlage LE mortice lock with ENGAGE™ technology have been performing well overseas and we have also been experiencing a growing demand in the UK for wireless technology locks, so we were determined to introduce it here as soon as we could.
“By using the Schlage wireless locks, this gives you the opportunity to bring electronic access control deeper inside the building, which opens up the potential for a single lock type to be used to secure the inside as well as the outside. The benefits of this compared to traditional methods which have tended to focus only on the security of the building exterior are enormous.
“As well as being easy and quick to install, the Schlage is also cost effective and low maintenance, with up to two years’ battery life. We are sure that the combination of this superior product with the ease of maintenance will make it an attractive proposition for facilities managers and specifiers,” he said.

Schlage LE wireless locks combine the lock, credential reader, door-position sensor and request-to-exit switch in a single unit. Crucially, there are no wires to run to the lock and no additional hardware is required.

Built-in Bluetooth® enables the LE wireless locks to connect directly to smart phones and tablets. These locks are available in nine finishes, from aged bronze to satin chrome with antimicrobial coating, as well as a host of lever styles.

For advanced capabilities including networked real-time communication with the ENGAGE™ Gateway, LE wireless locks are managed with software from one of our physical access control software alliance members. Full details of our LE integrations can be found at www.allegion.co.uk.

For more information on the Schlage LE mortice lock with ENGAGE™ technology, visit: www.allegion.co.uk/en/productcatalogue

How to Stay Safe When Working Outdoors in Searing Heat

Tradespeople have been offered key advice for staying safe and healthy when working outdoors in the searing summer heat.

Researchers from commercial vehicle experts LeaseVan.co.uk have revealed eight tips for avoiding sun burn or heat stroke from working outside.

Every summer millions of outdoor workers face the risk of dehydration and heat stress as well as the increased risk of an accident happening because of tiredness and lack of concentration.

Too much sunlight can be extremely harmful to your skin, causing sunburn and blistering as well as irreversible ageing.

In the long term, it can also lead to an increased risk of skin cancer, one of the most common forms of cancer in the UK.

If you work outdoors for a long time, your skin could be exposed to more sun than is healthy for you, and you should take particular care if you have fair or freckled skin, red or fair hair, or a large number of moles.

Tim Alcock from LeaseVan.co.uk commented:
“For British workers, blistering hot days are few and far between – even over the summer – so they’re often a cause for celebration when they do roll around.
“But if you’re an outdoor worker, they can actually pose a health hazard if you’re not careful.
“Very few employers include heat/sun exposure in their risk assessment, so unfortunately a lot of workers have to make it their own responsibility to stay safe in the sun.
“While you cannot change when the sun is going to shine, there are a few precautions and extra measures you can take to prioritise your health and wellness at work on such days.”

1. Stay hydrated
It sounds simple, but the importance of staying hydrated when it’s hot outside cannot be emphasised enough. If you simply wait until you’re thirsty before you drink water, you may be well beyond the point you needed to replenish fluids. Make sure you drink water every 15 to 20 minutes.

2. Ditch the caffeine
Many of us rely on the morning boost a big cup of coffee provides, but when a heat wave is on, don’t overdo it on the caffeine as in excess, it can prompt dehydration. Don’t forget that energy drinks usually contain a high dose of it as well, so even if you think you need a lift to get through a tough afternoon, try to avoid it when trying to beat the heat.

3. Dress appropriately
When the heat is particularly gruelling, it’s critical to keep yourself protected from the sun’s rays. That means wear cool, loose-fitting clothing in light-coloured fabrics that breathe and help to maintain a healthy body temperature. If you can wear a hat on the job, make sure you do so.

And whilst it’s tempting to strip off clothing when the temperatures are soaring, leaving your skin exposed to the sun can do more harm than good, leading to severe sunburns or heat stroke.

4. Sun cream
Even if you’re properly dressed for the conditions, it’s impossible not have some skin exposed, so make sure you apply a sun cream that has an SPF rating of at least 30 and keep layering it on throughout the day.

5. Eat right
If you’re working in the heat avoid a heavy lunch, especially protein-rich meats. You’re better off with small snacks and light meals throughout the day, as your body creates more metabolic heat if it’s breaking down heavy foods.

6. Take shelter
Even if you’re properly dressed for the conditions and you’ve slathered your body in sun cream, it’s a good idea to get out of the sun as often as possible throughout the day. Take breaks in the shade and, if possible, move some tasks to covered areas.

7. Cut back at happy hour
There’s nothing wrong with unwinding after a long, hot day on the job with an alcoholic beverage, but you shouldn’t overdo it during a heatwave as you’ll feel alcohol’s dehydrating effects the next day.

8. Pace yourself
Wherever possible, slow down and work at an even pace. Make sure you know your limits and don’t ignore the warning signs if you’re starting to feel exhausted. Warnings signs of heat exhaustion can include heavy sweating, rapid pulse, dizziness, goose bumps, muscle cramps and head ache.

London Jeweller Strikes Gold with Mul-T-Lock Cliq®

Mul-T-Lock has supplied a high-end jeweller in London with CLIQ® locks in order to help the business manage access to cabinets holding valuable items.

Stocking bespoke pieces and precious stones, the jeweller was looking for a high-level security solution that allowed sales personnel access to individual glass cabinets, without the worry that if one of the keys got lost or misplaced that they would have to replace the entire suite.

Over 50 CLIQ® cam locks from Mul-T-Lock were installed at the jewellers on each of the cabinets, offering maximum security with the added benefit of audit trail capabilities.

These capabilities include the ability to schedule individual access permissions for each key, as well as to provide time-limited access.

In the case of this particular jewellers, each member of staff was given access to a selection of cabinets at varying times, with individual permissions set by the administrator (those who manage the security system).

For example, access could be set for only business hours, meaning that the cabinet could not be accessed at evenings or weekends. Similarly, each time a user opens a lock, it will be recorded in the system, meaning that the administrator can keep an eye on operations electronically.

Specialist Mul-T-Lock integrator, Elelock Systems Ltd specified and installed the CLIQ® locks at the jewellers, after weeks of careful consultation with the business owner to better understand the store’s requirements.

Chrys Chrysostomou, Managing Director of Elelock said:
“One of the biggest concerns for this particular jeweller was the threat of compromised security if cabinet keys were lost. Mul-T-Lock’s CLIQ® technology means you can revoke access in minutes, whereas with a traditional system you would have needed to replace the whole lock – costing time and money.
“With no cabling the system was easy to configure and install, making it suitable for a variety of applications. The store manager also received hands-on training from ourselves and Mul-T-Lock, alongside the jeweller’s head of IT and security representative.”

Suresh Peri, Commercial & Technical Manager at Mul-T-Lock added:
“Our CLIQ® system is ideal for retail applications where there are a number of members of staff who need access at varying times, or that require individual permissions for access to high security storage rooms, cabinets or drawers.
“Being able to revoke access permissions when a member of staff leaves also allows retailers to uphold their security and reduce ongoing maintenance costs.”

To learn more about CLIQ® technology and Mul-T-Lock’s expertise within retail stores, please call 01902 364200, email internalsales@mul-t-lock.co.uk or visit www.mul-t-lock.co.uk.

Double up your site security with PSM

There is a lot to consider when replacing or installing a new security gate and assessing which type of gate would be the most suitable for your site's needs.

David Bolton, Technical Account Manager for PSM (Perimeter Security Maintenance) initiated a recent project with a client who wanted replacement traffic barriers that were highly effective, easy to see and easy to use whilst providing control for all types of vehicles.

Security to the premises and pedestrian safety was also paramount.

Dave explains:
"As shown in the picture below, traffic barriers are susceptible to damage from vehicle impact, adverse weather conditions and general wear and tear. Repairs need to be identified and carried out quickly in order to fix damage but when repairing barriers is no longer cost effective.

"PSM can provide the most suitable and reliable replacement traffic barriers to secure commercial and or industrial sites and whether your business runs from large industrial premises or smaller retail/private sites".

PSM can also undertake planned maintenance to all types and makes of security equipment and carry out safety checks to ensure you comply with current Health and Safety requirements.

Perimeter Security Maintenance are a division of BID Group Ltd and specialise in the service, repair, maintenance and installation of Traffic Barriers, Swing and Sliding Gates, Turnstiles, Bollards and Associated Access Control Systems.

For more information and a free, no obligation quotation and feasibility survey to assess your requirements contact Dave Bolton at sales@bidgroup.co.uk or by calling 0870 6075050

EXPO 2020 Opens New Doors for Jewers

Jewers Doors have just completed the installation of sixteen sets of Phoenix Swift bi-folding doors for the newly constructed Fire and Ambulance stations at the $15.5 billion EXPO 2020 Project in Dubai.

EXPO 2020 is the first Exposition or World Fair to be held in the Middle East region. The 438 hectare site will open in October 2020 and run until April 2021 featuring exhibits from almost 200 countries following the theme of "Connecting Minds, Creating the Future". Three themed parks dedicated to Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability will be organised around the Central Plaza.

To service the EXPO 2020 site, permanent Fire, Police and Ambulance stations were constructed. Jewers were commissioned to supply and install bi-folding doors for the eight vehicle access bays in each of the fire and ambulance service stations. All doors were manufactured at Jewers’ Bedfordshire factory, shipped to site and installed by their Dubai-based teams.

Each door is 4.3m wide x 4.3m high and is configured in four leaves with two leaves folding neatly to each side of the opening. 600mm x 1200mm double glazed toughened glass windows set in thermally broken aluminium frames are fitted in each door to improve driver vision and interior illumination. Swift doors are electrically operated using a pair of hydraulic drive units which open them fully in just 7 seconds for rapid vehicle exit in emergency conditions, and are fitted with full safety devices to protect users and vehicles during operation.

Horizontally bi-folding doors were specified for speed, safety, reliability, superior sealing properties and low maintenance requirements. Furthermore, as Swift doors open, the vehicle drivers have full line of sight of the door position and external surroundings at all times, which statistically results in significantly less incidents of damage to vehicles or doors when compared to vertically operating doors.

Jewers’ Regional Sales Manager; Ben Pritchard commented:
“Jewers Doors have been approved for installation by many government agencies in the Middle East, and it was an honour to be specified by GHD Consultants, and selected by Al Naboodah Construction Group LLC to complete this hugely prestigious project for the Expo 2020.
“Recent installations include four new fire stations for Dubai Civil Defence and refurbishment to the existing Fire Station at Dubai DryDocks. The Middle East is a very buoyant market at the moment and we look forward to completing further projects in the future.”

2020 Stingray Fulfills Corvette’s Ultimate Destiny

The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is the culmination of 60 years of mid-engine experimentation. While the eighth generation Corvette marks a radical leap forward in terms of capability from the seventh generation, it also incorporates lessons learned from past engineering exercises such as the Chevrolet Experimental Research Vehicles (CERVs) I-III, the Aerovette and others.

Zora Arkus-Duntov, considered the father of Corvette, first encountered early mid-engine vehicles in his youth, including the Auto Union Types C and D Grand Prix racing vehicles.

Duntov had a wealth of propulsion knowledge and thrived as an auto racer and engineering consultant in automotive and aeronautics. He was attracted to GM by the original Corvette concept, which he saw at the 1953 Motorama in New York City’s Waldorf Astoria.

Duntov started at GM on May 1, 1953, and helped Chevrolet chief engineer Ed Cole turn his proposed Small Block V-8 into a viable technology for Corvette later that decade. Duntov became Corvette’s first true chief engineer and pursued the mid-engine layout through various concepts, including the CERV I, which debuted in 1960. Duntov described it as “a design without limit” and an “admirable tool” to instruct Chevy on “what to put in Corvette.”

CERV I was outfitted with seven different engine combinations in its working lifespan, but its original engine, a Chevrolet Small Block V-8, and its lightweight aluminum core are both modernized on the 2020 Corvette Stingray.

In 1964, Duntov’s team debuted CERV II, which Duntov and Chevrolet General Manager Semon “Bunkie” Knudsen envisioned as a challenger at Sebring, Le Mans and other races. With torque converters in the front and rear, CERV II employed the first-ever mid-engine four-wheel-drive system, for which Duntov held the patent.

The most recent attempt at a mid-engine vehicle was the 1990 CERV III concept built in conjunction with Lotus to explore future levels of performance. CERV III, more of a road car than a track performer, was intended as a development vehicle to evaluate mid-engine structures. CERV III was powered by a 5.7L, 32-valve dual overhead cam Small Block V-8 with twin turbochargers. It produced 650 hp and 655 lb-ft of torque.

Duntov, who retired from GM in 1975, saw the mid-engine layout with the engine located ahead of the rear axle as the optimal configuration for weight distribution, excellent handling and forward visibility. Despite the layout’s innate performance benefits, its implementation in the scheme of mass manufacturing proved problematic. The previous mid-engine Corvettes were relegated to concept status by issues including engine cooling difficulties, limited passenger and luggage space, loudness and the inability to produce a convertible variant.

Advances in development, aided by computer-assisted engineering and virtual reality, helped the current Corvette team carefully plot out the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray’s architecture. Engineers worked closely with designers to ensure that the vehicle’s form met all of the necessary performance benchmarks, while preserving the Corvette legacy.

Mid-engine was always part of Corvette’s destiny. The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray pays off the vision of thousands of people who came before it and lives up to Corvette’s core fundamentals of performance, functionality and attainability.

New Leeds Office Expansion for Weru UK

Graham Lindsay (Founder of Weru UK Network)
 and Kate Lindsay (Sales Director)

Blackpool-based Weru UK – a distributor for Weru - Germany’s market leader in windows and doors, has opened a new regional office in Leeds City Centre to strengthen its UK operation.

The central office which is located in the iconic Pinnacle building currently does not offer showroom facilities but will service new clients and local architects by appointment.

Kate Lindsay, Sales Director at Weru UK comments:
“The new location paves the way for our nationwide business development plan. We have recently partnered with The Royal Institute of British Architects to run a series of professional development seminars for architecture firms across the UK. We will use the new location to strengthen our presence in this vibrant growth area”.

The business which was established 33 years ago, is headquartered at their impressive 8000 sq ft Blackpool site and serves a UK wide client base.

“We have already installed numerous Weru windows countrywide as far afield as Jersey, Orkney, Cornwall, Isle of Man so the decision to expand our satellite office locations is a natural progression. We are hoping to further expand over the coming years to support our expanding market share and offer better lifestyle quality for employees servicing regional areas across the UK.” adds Kate.

This notable expansion is expected to support the UK group sales from approximately £4.5 million annually of ‘installed windows and doors’ to over £8 million in 2020.

The business was established in 1985 and Graham Lindsay still heads up the operation along with his daughter Kate, and their professional team that have amassed significant experience in making continental windows reach their true potential within UK homes and commercial buildings.

Sliding door hardware – we have lift off, says HOPPE (UK)

Over recent years, large patio doors that allow lots of natural light into the home have become increasingly popular in the UK.

The trend for linking the home and garden into one connected living space has fuelled a trend for a wide range of glass doors, from the simple French doors to bi-fold doors and entire, sleek contemporary walls of fully retractable glass.

It’s a lovely way to create lots of natural light and a feeling of spaciousness and wellbeing. But although they look great, some of these door systems can be very heavy, difficult to manoeuvre, and in some cases quite dangerous for unwary hands.

Thanks to the flush lift and slide door handle from HOPPE (UK), homeowners can now let more light into their home without having to worry about how to operate the door.

Lift and slide patio doors allow you to use larger glass panels than other types of door systems but, despite the additional weight, lift and slide door systems are much easier to use than traditional sliding doors.

Architectural Ironmongers B J Waller approached HOPPE (UK) looking for a solution to a non-traditional sliding door installation.
“I was asked by our customer to come up with a solution for a pair of pocket lift and slide doors that closed onto a corner post,” said Adrian Bailey, technical sales representative at B J Waller.
“Standard lift and slide handles would have collided with each other, but as the HOPPE handle sits flush to the door, it provided the perfect fit and our customer was really pleased with the final design.”

By simply turning the lever handle to 180ยบ, the panels lift completely off the track and slide open, quite literally with the push of a finger. The advanced running gears mean that the doors are much easier to move, regardless of the weight. It allows you to move multiple inline panels that weigh up to 440kg each.

To return the door to a stationary position, the handle is used again to lower the panel. The wheels are protected from excessive wear, and the panel weight creates a weather-tight seal.

Lisa Nightingale, door and window sales manager at HOPPE (UK), says:
“Lift and slide door systems are becoming increasingly popular in the UK as they allow us to create much larger openings than with traditional sliding doors. The flush design of the handle complements the smooth, minimalist design, and homeowners feel like they are bringing the outside in without having their view blocked by bulky doors and hardware.”
