Garador's fittest go Commando and get on their bikes

A team of seven fit men from Garador recently completed the gruelling Royal Marine Commando Challenge.

The team raised £750, including a contribution from Garador, for the Devon Air Ambulance and the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund. The "The Expendables" completed the 10K assault course in an impressive 1hr and 45 minutes. The team members were Neil Bond, Rob Dash, Phil Wareham, Dave Burton, Martin Rice, Dean Curwen and Pete Rice.

The participants said; "It was a great day and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, although it was extremely challenging. We were pleased with our time, however it is fair to say that a number of unavoidable incidents along the way created some delay!"

Not to be outdone another two members of the Garador staff: Geoff Baby (45) and Christof Babinsky (25) joined the many riders, who came together from Jewson staff, customers and suppliers on the 2011 Tour de Jewson charity bike ride. The pair each cycled 32 miles in the stage from Honiton to Yeovil and completed it in an impressive two hours and ten minutes.

This is the second year that Garador has supported the event, which first took place in 2002 as part of Jewson's 'together' charity programme. Covering an astonishing 1801 miles across the UK in just 12 days - including some seriously steep paths - the riders exceeded their target of raising £20,000 for Barnados.

Simon Hipgrave, Garador's managing director, said the company was proud to have been part of such a fun and worthwhile projects and then went on to say:

"The Commando Course looked brutal and I have to admire and congratulate the team that took part. The bike ride has become an annual event for us now and I was delighted that Geoff and Christof joined in. I think it's fantastic that our staff are prepared to go to such lengths to support such great causes, and as a company we are happy to support them."
