Brand New Bimstore Comes out of the Box

Adam Ward and Gillian Smith
THE iTunes store equivalent for specifiers www.bimstore.co.uk has unveiled its latest upgrade in a new HTML5 site to power super-fast component downloads from over 50 manufacturers’ websites across eight countries.

In just two years bimstore has become the no.1 site for BIM downloads in the UK, showcasing more than 340,000 objects with over 30,000 downloads a month of free content created by industry experts.

Six months in development, the brand new bimstore site works across all devices and also includes a downloadable desktop app to help users locate objects to save into a ‘BIM Box’ system for each live project.

Similar to the Apple App Store, any updates to components are alerted in real time via a member social networking function ensuring BIM content in use is continuously kept up to date.

bimstore partnership manager Gillian Smith said:
“When we first set up bimstore it was only early BIM adopters showing interest. Then in October 2011 the UK Government mandated all projects to use BIM by 2016 – a real turning point for the industry and the site.

“Specification is changing and the use of traditional architectural libraries is dying, so access to a vast range of BIM components via a central portal is the future of the industry.

“As a technology-led business we thrive on going above and beyond the industry standard; with bimstore it’s not just about the initial purchase of the component, we also focus on how it will look and sit within a building, at the end of the cycle.”

bimstore is free to those with the bimstore ecosystem and is one of eight companies sitting within Space Group, alongside Space Architects and BIM.Technologies – a specialist technology company providing the construction sector with new thinking and new products.

The website is also affiliated with BIM Show Live, now the UK’s most established BIM event taking place this April in Manchester where bimstore will have an active presence on the day at its ‘Made Digital’ hub, for manufacturers and specifiers.

Gill concludes:
“We have a community of over 30,000 users, which we hope bimstore 3.0 will help us grow to become the go-to store for the whole industry as BIM becomes second nature in the building design process.”
