Teckentrup Insulated Fire Doors Offer Safe Passage

The market for steel fire door sets requires product tested to BS476: Part 22 or BS EN1634-1. And, unlike all the major countries in the EU, UK Building Regulations permit the use of integrity only, un-insulated doors.

In a fire situation an un-insulated, hollow metal door will contain a fire but offer little resistance to the passage of thermally radiated heat. Levels of up to 24 kW/M2 after 20 minutes at 0.5M from the unexposed surface are typically recorded on test, potentially risking harm in use to people queuing in high traffic, escape corridors. These levels also risk becoming an ignition source for close proximity inflammable materials.

The new competitively priced, Teckentrup 62-FDi door is tested to EN1634-1 in all conventional configurations. It provides up to 120 minutes integrity and up to 90 minutes insulation and it is easy to see why this new CERTIFIRE certified product will give architects the opportunity to specify a fire door that offers a ‘best practice’ choice for these ‘life safety’ items.
“Insulation is such a logical progression in the performance criteria for fire doors in this country. It is the norm in mainland Europe and our expectation is that the UK will also adopt this as the new standard. Aesthetics are taken care of too, with the doors available in architectural standard constructions, a full choice of colour finishes and stainless steel options” Said Colin Hayes, Teckentrup’s Steel Door Division Manager.
