The Perfect Partnership

CDW Systems is a Gloucester-based manufacturer and supplier of aluminium windows, doors and curtain walling. The company has fabricated Sapa Building System’s products for many years so when Sapa introduced the Stormframe STII door, it was keen to get on board.

Formed in 1991, CDW Systems provides high performance, quality aluminium products for new and refurbished buildings – from high-rise application to ground floor treatments. The manufacturer is an expert in the retail, healthcare, education, security (including MOD) and commercial markets.

Richard Smith, Technical Director of CDW Systems commented:
“We’ve worked with Sapa Building System for over 13 years having always been very impressed with the high quality of its products. In this time, we have built up a great relationship with the company. This is very much helped by the fact that they are local which means we are able to have face-to-face interaction should we need it, particularly with their technical director.”
The newest addition to CDW’s factory, the commercial STII door uses advanced polyamide thermal break technology, allowing it to achieve U values as low as 1.9W/m²k, with double-glazing easily surpassing the requirements for high traffic doors of 3.5W/m²k. The door, which is available in dual colour, has an extensive range of functional options including anti finger trap.

The product is designed to use the standard hardware and door closer options to guarantee a consistent look and feel, across our product range. It can also accommodate glazing up to 46mm with a door size of up to 3m high. In addition, with its 65mm profile depth provides stronger overall construction making the door very robust and suitable for high traffic areas.

The response on the shop floor at CDW has been very positive, Richard continued:
“Having fabricated the ST doors for some time, the transition over to the STII was very straightforward since no additional tools were required. In addition, the product’s fabrication is not labour or part intensive, which makes it very easy to work with for those in the factory. What’s more, as with all of Sapa’s products, we are extremely impressed with the quality and aesthetics offered by this system.”
STII has also been successfully tested to the PAS024 security standard, which is widely specified across a number of sectors. For CDW, this was a key benefit. “Sapa having carried out the initial type testing of STII with a full hardware offer is a huge benefit since we can be certified under the cascaded Sapa Kitemark scope, which means the initial investment is not required for CDW to add the product to our own scope” said Richard

Being able to now offer the STII has enabled CDW Systems to ensure that customer needs are continuously met; in fact moving to the product was largely due to the result of customer feedback. For CDW, the STII system is mostly being installed across schools particularly in Hertfordshire.

Mark Robinson, Technical Director at Sapa Building System commented:
“The relationship we have with CDW is very important to us particularly as it enables us to get important feedback, which helps with future product hardware and development options. The positive comments we have had from the company on the STII door from both a quality and fabrication perspective are fantastic.”
The STII door is a great example of Sapa’s focus on continual product innovation where customer needs are central to its development. In addition, being able to offer new and improved systems where minimal investment and time is required from the fabricators Sapa works with is key. The final result is high performing systems for both fabricators and end customers alike.
