Origin, the leading British manufacturer of high quality aluminium bi-folding and residential doors, windows and blinds, has celebrated two significant manufacturing milestones, having made the 200,000th Origin Bi-fold Door and 50,000th Origin Window in its High Wycombe factory.
The family business, which was established by cousins Neil Ginger and Victoria Brocklesby, made its very first bi-fold door in 2001, after spotting an opportunity in the UK market for high quality aluminium bi-folding doors.
Over the last 16 years, Origin has gone from strength to strength. The company continues to add to its Origin Home range, first introducing a range of bespoke blinds in 2011, followed by the Origin Window in 2014 and, most recently, launching a new residential door in 2016.
The company’s evolution is fueled by customer demand. Origin’s research and development division actively uses homeowners as a source of inspiration. From the introduction of colour-coded hardware for those seeking a minimalistic view, to the launch of the Origin Window for a fully integrated look, and the optional upgrade of Aerogel on the window for improved thermal efficiency, Origin’s customer orientated innovation is integral to its industry-leading systems.
Ben Brocklesby, Director at Origin, said:
“When the company first started, we were making bespoke bi-fold doors for homes at a rate of six per week. Every door that leaves the factory is cleverly designed and beautifully made by our skilled craftsmen. Origin continues to grow and improve not only the service we offer our customers, but also our manufacturing operations. Nowadays, our factory can manufacture up to 1200 completely bespoke aluminium bi-fold doors and 887 windows per week, so it won’t be long before we hit the million mark!”
Based in High Wycombe, Origin is now a £30 million business with operations in the UK, Dubai and America, making it one of the UK’s biggest manufacturing success stories. It is the only company in the world that can manufacture a bespoke product without a lead time, and has maintained a one hundred per cent record for this since introducing its ‘Your Lead Time, Not Ours’ promise.
In 2012, the company re-vamped its production process using a model inspired by Goldratt’s ‘Theory of Constraints’ to give Origin a competitive, zero lead time advantage over the competition. This new model, which turned manufacturing on its head, was at the centre of the ‘Your Lead Time, Not Yours’ promise.
As Ben Brocklesby explains:
“Offering the best quality systems on the market with zero lead time has allowed the company to grow at a considerable rate. We are proud to have boasted a sales growth of 30 per cent year on year for the last ten years and Origin now is responsible for a quarter of all bi-fold sales in the UK. We have over 270 employees and, in April 2017, we re-located our office headquarters to a new 20,000 sq.ft office space to keep up with the exponential growth.
“Origin is showing no sign of slowing down as we continue to release innovative new products into the market, adding to the complimentary Origin Home range. Watch this space!” concludes Ben Brocklesby.
