Perimeter protection specialist Heras has pushed backed the boundaries of gate safety once more with the recent launch of its Safeglide 2 product – the company’s safest ever gate.
The Safeglide 2 improves on the existing Heras sliding gate model with a range of enhancements that makes it one of the safest options on the market, but one that is also easy to install and extremely reliable.
The development of the new gate comes in response to customer demand:
“We listen closely to the needs of our customers and always try and help with their requirements,” explains Geoff Miles, National Sales Director at Heras UK. “It’s this client dialogue that has led to Safeglide 2, as we found people were increasingly asking for a new product that combined safe operation and excellent reliability.
“And that’s exactly what we’ve delivered, through an ultra-reliable product that fulfils - and often exceeds - UK safety regulations, and that has been successfully tested for all relevant safety norms.”

Safeglide 2 is now the only gate currently available on the UK market that has been tested and approved to wind load class 3, according to EN 12424. In addition, each gate is equipped with emergency stop as standard and is BS EN 12453 and DoP certified.
And Heras has ensured it adheres to DHF TS 011:2016 – the code of practice that covers the safe installation, repair and maintenance of powered gates, something that has impressed dhf CEO Bob Perry:
“dhf was contacted initially by Heras to discuss this project regarding compliance to the technical specification DHF TS 011:2016, then later to view the prototype which resulted in a very positive outcome,” he comments. “dhf welcomes and applauds any member company who seek guidance, advice and opinion on safety and compliance of their products.
“Our aim is to assist our members in raising standards in the industry and provide them with the information needed to do so. DHF TS 011:2016 is freely available to download from the dhf website. www.dhfonline.org.uk .”

Safeglide 2 is also extremely robust and – despite its strength – lightweight and easy to maintain. This makes the gate very cost-effective, as maintenance costs are minimal and it has a long operational life.
However, customers are never far from help if a problem occurs, as Heras offers comprehensive post-sale service and maintenance through its network of nine branches across the UK. A full range of spare parts are kept constantly in stock and engineers are always available, so - in the event of any damage or malfunction – the issue is dealt with swiftly, ensuring that any out-of-service period is kept to a minimum.

This – as Geoff Miles says – is part of a wider company commitment to customer care:
“As a manufacturer it is our responsibility to ensure that all automated gates are designed, installed and operated safely,” he comments. ‘When you order a Safeglide 2 – as with all our products – one of our experienced perimeter protection consultants visits your premises to discuss design and installation requirements.
“We then provide training courses for installers and contractors, so they can learn how to install and operate the gate safely. And, after the gate has been installed, we visit once more to carry out a final inspection and provide the end user with a certificate.”
Safeglide 2 also benefits from being quick and easy to install, thanks to its prefabricated modular construction - a plug and play solution designed with installers in mind.
What’s more, the gate can be easily integrated with Geoquip detection products - ensuring a highly secure solution – and has a large opening width, up to a maximum of nine metres, to allow access for even the largest vehicles. Also, customers and end users have a variety of different sizes, colours and infills to choose from - ensuring seamless integration into an overall perimeter solution.

The launch of Safeglide 2 adds to the increasing reputation of Heras. Since its formation in 1952, the firm has grown from a small Dutch family-owned company specialising in fencing, into a global end-to-end supplier of perimeter protection solutions.
The Heras group now operates in over 12 countries - employing more than 1100 highly-skilled experts – and provides design, manufacture, installation and servicing of safe perimeter protection across all business, community and industry sectors.
