125 Spectacular Cars offered for Auction at the Silverstone Classic

125 incredible lots with a combined value of between £8.2m to £9.6m will be offered for auction at Silverstone Auctions’ biggest ever sale at the Silverstone Classic festival on the 21st and 22nd July at Silverstone Circuit.

A spectacular collection of classic and sports cars, as well as 200 items of quality automobilia and luxury watches, will be offered for sale over two days in front of thousands of enthusiasts as part of the world’s biggest classic motor racing festival.

Headlining the sale is a stylish and very rare 1958 Mercedes 300SL Roadster, one of only 1,858 ever built and coming to the market from long-term ownership. Based on the classic W194 Sports Racing Car, this elegant Roadster in left-hand drive retains all of the speed and handling of the racer with the Hollywood good looks that together create a German icon.

Carefully restored by a 'Who's Who' of the UK's leading 300SL specialists, this exceptional matching numbers example is estimated at £700,000 to £800,000.

There’s a strong Italian presence at the sale with an exquisite right-hand drive 1972 Ferrari 246 Dino GTS estimated at £270,000 to £320,000. Finished in the timeless combination of Rosso Chiaro with a Beige interior, this tastefully restored Ferrari has covered just 41,000 miles.

Joining the Ferrari is another Modena native, a 1972 Maserati Ghibli 4.7 Coupe estimated at £170,000 to £190,000. Superbly finished in gleaming Graphite Grey with fabulous Tobacco hide, it is reading just 9,500 recorded miles from new.

Silverstone Auctions’ specialty in Porsches is clear in the Silverstone Classic Sale with a strong presence from the German marque throughout the catalogue. Highlights include a 1989 Porsche 911 (930) Turbo G50 with only 29,000 miles and an estimate of £120,000 to £150,000.

Another highlight of the Porsche line-up, one of only 159 right-hand drive 1993 Porsche 911 (964) Turbo 3.6s, formerly owned by the Sultan of Brunei and reading just 20,000 miles, will be offered with an estimate of £190,000 to £220,000.

Finally, a fabulous example of the very rare 1986 Porsche 911 (930) Turbo SE ‘Flat Nose’ in a wonderful shade of Minerva Blue Metallic is estimated at £150,000 to £170,000.

“This sale is our headline sale of the year and is a key part of the Silverstone Classic weekend,” says Nick Whale, managing director, Silverstone Auctions. “We are pleased to offer some of the finest classics available to a global audience of bidders. The cars on offer are the best in the country and will now move on to new homes all around the world.”

The British contingent in the sale is also not to be underappreciated, consisting of a one of a kind 1934 3.5 Litre Derby Bentley ‘Bologna’ estimated at £155,000 to £175,000. A 1965 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2 FHC formerly owned by British motor sport great Sir John Whitmore has an estimate of £90,000 to £110,000.

Also expected to attract international bidders is a 1975 Range Rover once owned by the Royal family. Restored to factory specification over a period of more than 1,000 hours and at a cost of over £60,000, it has been given an estimate of £70,000 to £80,000.

The automobilia sale will include a special selection of motor sport memorabilia as part of the commemorative activities to mark the passing of journalist and broadcaster, Henry Hope Frost. The HHF 'Family Fever' Charity Auction will feature a number of highly collectible items donated by various F1 teams, with all proceeds of the auction to be donated to Henry’s family.

Viewing of all lots will be available on Friday 19th July from 13:30 until 18:30, on 20th July from 9:00 until 18:00, and on 21st and 22nd July from 9:00 until the auctions begin at 14:30.
