Fort Doors, the Birmingham-based producer of garage doors, has taken the environmental lead with the introduction of the Monarch - a new product that offers an alternative to the traditional cedar door.
The Monarch is a timber door with both core and faces made from poplar that’s derived from controlled and sustainable European plantations. The wood has been modified to make it just as durable as tropical marine plywood, and the structural certificate, lightness, and surface quality make it perfect for door construction.
All the doors in the range are certified by either the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) or Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC). These certificates are only given to wooden products derived from well-managed and sustainable forests.
But there is no loss of quality with the new door. The modified wood used in the Monarch benefits from an innovative treatment that renders the entire panel exceptionally durable. It is immune to fungal and insect attack when used outdoors and is capable of withstanding the most demanding of weather conditions.
The product is also lightweight, with excellent knot-free surface quality and consistent colouring.
Fort Doors are offering the Monarch in Horizontal and Vertical designs, and with Canopy, Retractable and side-hinged versions available.
The timber panel is fitted over steel chassis, with a steel frame as standard, and the doors are available from 6’6’’ up to 14’ wide and can also be made to measure. The side-hinged option is available from 5’ up to 10’.
The Monarch is finished in light oak as standard, and each door can easily be stained on site to meet customer colour requirements.
“The drive to choose, and use, eco-friendly wood from sustainable forests with fewer miles travelled is a big issue, both within the door industry and wider society,” says Fort Doors Director Lee Moon.
“So, we’ve put a lot of time and effort into producing an eco-friendly plywood door range with all the looks, quality and durability associated with tropical wood. The result is the Monarch, which we are absolutely delighted with - and we know our customers will be too!”
