In a world where many companies limit their view of employees to their job roles, Link Controls values them much more than that, as individual human beings, and takes an interest in their hobbies, to not only improve their happiness and well-being but their productivity and output in a workplace where they are not just another number.
At Link Controls, they delve into the lives and passions of their team members. Today, we introduce you to Chris Spurdle, a Welding Engineer at Link Controls, who has an exciting side hobby - motorsport and is sponsored by Demon Tweeks.
How did Chris Spurdle Get Into Motorsport? Where did it all begin?
"I’ve always been around cars my entire life, and I have always enjoyed watching motorsports on TV. It’s always been something I’d like to do, and so I decided last year that’s what I was going to do."
So, when Chris isn't at his welding station, he's under the hood of a car, living his dream on the track. How does he do it? Is it a regular pursuit?
"I’ve only done a few days so far but in other vehicles, and mine is still a work in progress."
While not a seasoned racer, Chris's determination shines through as he steadily refines his skills and his vehicle. Does it take him to any interesting places? What's the adventure aspect?
"It does take you to some fantastic places, for example, I’ve been up to Knockhill circuit in Scotland. It’s such an amazing place with picturesque surroundings."
His motorsport journey has transformed into a travel adventure, offering him glimpses of breathtaking destinations, offering a chance to relax and improve his happiness and wellbeing.
What has been his standout memory? Any standout moments?
"My favourite memory was last year. I’d been helping out a team in the TCR championship, and it was their first year in competition, and they won the championship!" Chris told us beaming with pride.
Is it a shared journey?
"I started doing it with friends, and along the way, - I've made many more new friendships with people I’ve met. I’ve also had the opportunity to meet some racing legends in the past".
Motorsport isn't just about racing; it's about building connections and friendships.
In celebrating Chris Spurdle's journey into motorsport, Link Controls not only values his work as a Welding Engineer but also acknowledges his vibrant life outside of it. They support him in his motorsport endeavours, are proud of him and constantly set an example for companies to treat their staff as holistic individuals rather than cogs in a system.
