It features in-depth insights from the ADSA team, along with special guest Carl Black, field support manager for dormakaba UK and Ireland.

They discuss how NVQs can be used to strengthen workforce competence, guarantee compliance and promote best practice in safety and performance.

The panel the evolution of the qualification, why it is a ‘must have’ at any stage of a technician’s career and discuss preparations that employers and candidates should when undertaking assessment.

The Building Safety Act, which came into force in October last year, requires regular safety checks and designates accountable persons to oversee the development and maintenance of high-risk buildings.

This regulatory shift has resulted in NVQs becoming an effective method of certification for technicians to a obtain a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.

The podcast discussion outlines how NVQs validate practical skills and knowledge through work-based practical assessment, ensuring technicians are fully equipped to meet evolving safety and compliance standards.

ADSA managing director Ken Price highlights the impact NVQs are making on the safety and professionalism of the industry:

“NVQs provide a structured, recognised pathway to competence which is essential for meeting today’s rigorous safety standards.

“By achieving NVQs, technicians not only elevate their own skill set but also contribute to a safer built environment which is precisely what the Building Safety Act aims to ensure.”

dormakaba UK has integrated NVQs into its technician training programmes, bringing enhanced skills and compliance to the field.

Carl Black shared:

“At dormakaba, we have 120 technicians  that all have ongoing training and development.

“Our Training process includes, onsite audits, internal and external training, onsite training and technical assessments, which collectively establish a comprehensive foundation for skill development.

“NVQs validate that and evidence that our technicians possess the hands-on expertise needed for safe, compliant installations and maintenance.”
