Green Gate Access Systems solve access and security ‘drama’ at Orchard Theatre

Kent based company, Green Gate Access Systems, has solved the on-going issue of access and security at Dartford’s ‘Orchard Theatre’ via the use of a cutting edge computer based access control system.

The Paxton Net2 entry control system is connected to the building management network, allowing the use of swipe cards for employees and ‘disposable pin codes’ for known and pre-booked disabled visitors. The new security measures, put in place just two weeks ago, have enabled disabled visitors to request a parking space with a booking and receive a reservation and pin code emailed to them, for use on an allocated date and time slot. Theatre subscribers can also be issued with an annual swipe card.

Originally contacted by Orchard Theatre in 2012 to review their parking security, Green Gate Access Systems considered several options for the project, with the consultation process lasting a number of months to ensure the right system was installed. The original hydraulic blockers have been repaired and serviced, warning sirens and red/green traffic lights have been installed and most importantly, the flexible Paxton Net2 entry control system has been introduced. Access control is mounted on an O&O Totum, part of the overall safety package that also includes highways grade waning, no entry signs and underground safety loops with directional logic. Blockers rise swiftly after a vehicle has entered and minimises tail-gating.

“Orchard Theatre has an obligation to provide security and accessibility for disabled patrons and theatre goers, in addition to key members of staff.” explains Green Gate Access Systems’ MD, Neil Sampson. “They have also had to alleviate the increasing problem of shoppers using the theatre car park. With the theatre located just off Dartford High Street and in close proximity to a large shopping centre, railway station and pay and display car park, it has been all too tempting for shoppers and commuters alike to take advantage of the theatre’s free car parking facilities. The new installation will ensure ease of access, safety and security for both theatre goers and employees.”
“We are delighted with the work undertaken by Green Gate Access Systems and can now boast an easy to manage system, ensuring adequate parking for our disabled patrons and staff.” says Will West, Technical and Buildings Manager at Orchard Theatre. “The ability to control the system from my laptop is fantastic. It has been an extremely challenging installation in a busy thoroughfare, but Neil and his team have produced an excellent result.”

New Slim Fit From Astra

The 3000 series of fully-controlled concealed door closers from Astra Door Controls now features a new slimline face plate to make it easier and quicker to fit, and even more discrete and attractive in situ.

The 3000 Series concealed closers offer all the adjustability and control of an overhead closer, with the aesthetic appeal of a concealed device. They are often specified when clean, minimal design is required without compromising on performance - even on ½ hour and 1 hour fire doors.

The closers’ face plate has now been reduced in width to just 32mm. Not only does that mean it looks more unobtrusive than ever, it is also easier to fit as less timber needs to be removed to fit the closer into the door edge. Specifiers appreciate the Astra closers’ understated appearance so it is regularly selected for the most prestigious projects – in fact any scheme where the clunky institutional feel of an overhead closer is inappropriate.

The 3000 series of concealed door closers from Astra is manufactured in the UK, in four different power sizes with adjustable closing speed and latching action for different size and weights of doors. A unique hydraulic piston assembly, designed by Astra, offers an adjustable, controlled rate of door closure together with an adjustable ‘snap action’ for overcoming the latch.

The closers’ quality design and build makes it perfect for high traffic applications, both commercial and residential. Unlike other concealed closers on the market, the Astra 3000 series is fully controlled and adjustable, making it a really viable alternative to overhead products at a sensible price. This adjustability helps specifiers to achieve doors which comply with the Equality Act 2010, Building Regs and PAS 24 for entrance doors and the RRO for fire doors.

The Series 3000 range of closers was developed in-house by Astra. The Size 3 version (3003) is approved to EN1154 (when the power latching action is set to maximum) and CE marked. Fire tests in accordance with BSEN 1634-1:2000 and BSEN 1634-1:1999 have also been carried out making the closers suitable for fire doors. Astra also carries out continuous in-house testing up to half a million cycles.

Astra is well known for its door closer range including the popular Gibraltar range. The Lancashire-based company can demonstrate many years experience in the sector and carries out all of its own R&D in-house. It exports its British door closers all across the globe via a network of distributors and partner companies.

Carl f Groupco Stars with New Cylinder

The CFG3* cylinder developed by hardware supplier Carl F Groupco.

The latest own brand hardware to be developed by Carl F Groupco is the CFG3* cylinder. Produced in response to demand for a cylinder which meets 3* accreditation for TS 007, the Kitemarked product achieves PAS 24 and is accredited by Secured by Design.

Commenting on the latest manufacturing investment by Carl F Groupco, Sales Director, Norman Berrill, said:
“The TS 007 standard can be achieved either by using a 2 star handle (such as the Hoppe PAS 24 High Security Handle) alongside a 1 star cylinder, or by using a 3 star cylinder alongside any handle style.

“Offering a 3 star cylinder gives the fabricator an alternative approach to achieving the standard – it is an option that, depending on the handle used, can also be more cost effective.

“The launch of own brand lines is part of our one-stop shop philosophy that is designed to ensure we offer comprehensive product choice and take the pain out of product sourcing.”
The cylinder, which carries a full ten year warranty, features Anti-Drill, Snap, Plug, Pick and Bump is available in brass and nickel.

Roger Moore's 'The Persuaders!' Aston Martin Sets World Record for a DBS Sold at Auction

The Persuaders! 1970 Aston Martin DBS

In its 15th year, Bonhams annual auction at the Aston Martin Works totaled £8.7 million, selling over one hundred lots of collectable automobilia alongside almost 50 motor cars, the largest number Bonhams have ever had at the Aston Martin sale.

The top lot, a very rare DB6 Mark 2 Volante sold at £757,500. An unsurprisingly popular model from the marque, the Volante sold is one of only 21 examples built.

The famed 1970 Aston Martin DBS which starred in the hit British television series 'The Persuaders!' held pride of place at the front of the auction hall, attracting immense interest from fans of the show and Aston Martin enthusiasts alike, selling at £533,500 and setting a new world record for an Aston Martin DBS sold at auction.

The famed DBS was specially modified specifically for its role in 'The Persuaders!', in which it featured prominently in almost all of the show’s 24 episodes. Co-starring Roger Moore and Hollywood legend Tony Curtis, the car was arguably the third ‘star’ of the hit series, a motoring icon from the 70s.

1963 Aston Martin DB5 project
Meanwhile, lot 216, the factory Vantage prototype 'DP217' 1963 Aston Martin DB5 project exceeded all expectations. Selling for £393,500 – over four times its highest estimate – as the gavel came down the closing bid was met with applause from the room.

James Knight, Bonhams Group Motoring Director, said:

“We’ve had glorious weather, excellent hospitality, and some truly stunning motorcars starring in today’s auction.

“The sale has been one of surprise and delight. From selling a DB5 Sports Saloon project at four times its estimate, to setting world records with ‘star’ car, 'The Persuaders!' Aston Martin DBS.

“As ever, in its 15th year the Aston Martin Works sale has been truly tremendous. After 15 years of running this sale we still continue to enjoy our very special partnership with Aston Martin, working collectively to deliver the right results for the brand and our clients.”

1970 Aston Martin DB6 Mk2 Volante

Paul Spires, General Sales Manager at Aston Martin Works, said:
“The Bonhams auction weekend has once again more than lived up to expectations. The uniquely sociable ‘garden party’ atmosphere certainly seems to have helped some of the 2,500 or so people who joined us here at Newport Pagnell take the plunge.

“With many exceptional sports cars sold, and bids coming in from right around the world, it’s clear that Bonhams’ Aston Martin Sale is, more than ever, a key fixture of the classic car world."

The Real Bond Car… Unveiled at Ian Fleming’s old office

Royal Navy Commander Paul Haines with colleague Commander Pat Douglas
at the unveiling of the “real Bond car” at Ian Fleming's old office

Last Tuesday a 1954 Aston Martin DB 2/4, which is understood to have been the inspiration for James Bond’s Aston Martin, was unveiled by international auctioneers Coys at the Old Admiralty Building, where Ian Fleming had his office.

The car, which will be auctioned at Coys’ traditional Blenheim Palace sale on 12th July, is believed to have been the inspiration for the Aston Martin featured in the original novel Goldfinger.

This model is a Vantage specification 1954 DB 2/4 Mk I, bearing the registration JBW 974. For many years it sat idle, collecting dust and rust, until a father and son purchased it for restoration. It was during the restoration that a set of unique special modifications came to light, along with the car’s connections to the British Intelligence Service and the creator of Bond himself, Ian Fleming.

These one-off features seem to be the same as the fictional Bond car in Goldfinger, including reinforced steel bumpers, concealed lockers, heavy-duty anti-interference ignition system, driver’s seat connections for two-way radio and/or a homing device, and a Halda Speed Pilot device, which accurately computes time and distance in relation to a pre-selected average speed.

The “real Bond car”, an Aston Martin
DB 2/4 at the Old Admiralty Building
Chris Routledge, Managing Partner of the auction house, said:
“The story around this car and its discovery is phenomenal. It was supplied new on 4th July 1955 to the Honourable Sqdr. Ldr. Phillip Ingram Cunliffe-Lister DSO, whose father was Lord Swinton, a close confidant of Winston Churchill and head of MI5 and the Security Executive during WWII. Moreover, the vehicle was regularly at Ian Fleming’s direct next-door neighbour in Kent, and indeed it was the next-door neighbour’s house which was also used as inspiration in the Bond novels, this time as Sir Hugo Drax’s residence in the novel Moonraker.
He added:
“This could be one of the most important discoveries of all time, confirming the link between the undoubtedly most famous spy in history and possibly the world’s most iconic sports car marque.”
The car was on show at the Stratstone of Mayfair Aston Martin showroom on Park Lane, 113 Park Lane, London W1K 7AJ, until the end of last week. It is now on display at the foyer of the Grange St. Paul’s Hotel, 10 Godliman St, London EC4V 5AJ.

Some association links

1. The man who bought the car was Sqdr. Ldr. Hon Philip ‘Ingram’ Cunfliffe-Lister DSO. His father was Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister, Lord Swinton the 1st Earl, who was a close confidant of Winston Churchill and head of MI5 and the Security Executive during WWII.

2. Ian Fleming was very keen on sports cars even to the extent that he was once the co-driver for Britain’s top rally driver, who was at the time none other than Donald Healy, the famous sports car manufacturer. As the evidence shows, the new Aston owner Ingram also competed in lots of international rallies. And had his new Aston equipped with ‘extras’ for competitions.

3. In 1952 Ian Fleming bought a seaside house from Noel Coward in a small village near Deal in Kent. In the same village, and at the same time, Ingram’s friends Dennis Ramsay, the famous portrait painter, and his wife Rose, the godmother to his son Michael and the daughter of Simms who founded the RAC, bought the nearest house to Ian Fleming, called Hope Bay Studio. Ingram’s son Michael Cunliffe-Lister is alive and well as has clear recollections of visits with his father in the 1950s. He travelled from Lincolnshire for sentimental reasons to view the restoration work on his father’s car.

4. Around 1954 Ian Fleming then wrote his next James Bond novel ‘Moonraker’. Fleming must have known the Ramsays, who lived in Hope Bay Studio. He knew their house very well because he included it in the book he was currently writing, making it into Sir Hugo Drax’s house and rocket base.

5. In 1955, Ingram continued to compete in international rallies and the new Aston Martin he had purchased was fitted with ‘extras’ for next year’s season. By that year, Fleming had written six books with Bond’s car being a Bentley, but then, in his new book ‘Goldfinger’ he gave Bond an Aston Martin, and coincidentally it is the only Bond car in Ian Fleming’s novels to have gadgets installed that are so similar to this car that it makes any coincidence extremely unlikely.

Commercial Multipoint Lock Meets PAS24 In Doorset

For the first time, Adams Rite, part of ASSA ABLOY Security Solutions, has successfully tested its commercial multipoint lock range within an aluminium doorset to the PAS24 standard.

Working together with Kaye Building Systems, Sentinel M was integrated within the thermal doorset, offering three points of trusted locking, whilst still allowing for quick and easy egress due to its unique orbital latch design.

The rigorous testing process, which took place in the ASSA ABLOY UKAS accredited test lab, provided the benchmarks to show the doorset offers ‘Enhanced Security’, and therefore has the capability to withstand sustained usage within a variety of environments, including education, commercial and retail.

Having undergone timed manual attacking methods, hard and soft body impact tests, and static load testing up to 4500N the doorset was successfully tested to PAS24.

Derek Hodgson, General Manager at Kaye Building Systems, said:
“We have manufactured this doorset in line with the changes to Part L, due to come into force in April. This particular doorset is proven to have a low rate of heat loss through the material, ensuring the door is energy efficient, inkeeping with the Building Regulations relating to the Conservation of Fuel and Power.

“As the new doorset will be installed in commercial buildings, we needed to ensure the hardware we fitted would be resistant to the latest methods of attack. We recognised the robust qualities of Sentinel M and are delighted that we now offer the first doorset to incorporate this product, so it will protect the occupants and assets in a range of commercial projects.”

Tim Almond, Business Development Manager for ASSA ABLOY Security Solutions. Tim said:
“Sentinel M provided the level of security needed for the doorset to be successfully tested to PAS24, it also allows for quick and easy access, perfect for use in public spaces, such as office blocks.

“This is the first time we have collaborated with Kaye Building Systems to achieve a tested product and due to the success of this project we are planning additional testing with them.”

Yale Door And Window Solutions Fits with IFI for a Blade Revolution

Yale Door and Window Solutions revolutionary new Blade window lock will be a key feature on display for IFI Ltd at this year’s FIT exhibition.

The new Yale Blade window lock has been exclusively designed to offer advanced performance for fabricators and installers enabling a faster fit, reduction in call- backs and simple maintenance.

As the only national Yale distributor at the FIT show, visitors to IFI’s stand 267 in hall 2 will be able to experience first hand the exclusive features and benefits of Yale Blade from the world’s favourite lock company.

Says Martyn Curran, Sales Director at IFI, a trading division of Rapidrop Global Ltd:
“Signing up to this year’s FIT show brings the perfect opportunity for IFI to showcase a full range of high performance products and services.

“There was no doubt Yale Blade would take pride of place, to introduce a revolutionary new dimension to window locking technology from a brand that the industry and its customers knows and trusts implicitly. We are looking forward to showing visitors how Blade can positively impact right from the initial fabrication through to installation and maintenance.”
With Blade, during fabrication the profile can be predrilled to allow the lock and keeps to be fitted at any time, without pre-marking to offer a more flexible and efficient production process. The unique design also ensures one locking point height for all profiles, reducing stock holding for multi system users.

Yale Blade’s rotary locking action significantly reduces mechanical wear, further eliminating compression loss and ensuring consistent weather-sealing performance for the life of the product; thus significantly reducing costly call backs.

Says Kevin Hill, Managing Director of Yale Door and Window Solutions:
“Yale Door and Window Solutions has a long standing relationship with IFI whom we consider a true partner. They understand and deliver the needs of today’s challenging market in a professional and passionate manner.

“IFI’s package of products, services and experience offers a unique proposition to fabricators and installers and Yale Blade fits perfectly. At FIT 2014, visitors will be able to see for themselves the benefits of this truly innovative window technology and show how Yale is working hard with its partners to ensure they can harness the power of the brand and continue to grow in an open and strategic way.”
Occupying the full depth of the eurogroove, the Yale Blade provides the window with increased integral strength for meeting the stringent requirements of PAS24 and as a result, has Police approved Secured by Design accreditation.

IFI will be on stand 267 in Hall 2 at FIT 2014, which is taking place from 10 – 12 June at Telford International Centre. For more details, please email IFI@IFI.eu or telephone 01733 847 520.

Selling on the Internet, by Telephone, from a Shop or in the Home

This piece of new legislation which comes into effect on June 13th this year has certainly crept up and jumped on everyone from behind. The first we got to hear of it was yesterday in this communication from HMRC despite us having a good supply of news feeds.

It looks like it will particularly affect everyone in the retail garage door sector, locksmiths working for homeowners, or any business selling to consumers so it's well worth reading up on the subject as there's a sting in the tail if you don't!

Also take a look at how the "post-contract customer phone lines" will affect you, especially if you are using premium rate numbers (090, 0870 etc). The trading standards documents downloadable below go into detail about these and offer some good guidance.

Here is what was in the HMRC communication:

"If you sell goods and services to consumers, you are likely to be affected by changes in legislation coming into force in June 2014. Those selling online or off-premises will see the biggest change.

"The Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 will apply from the 13 June this year and set out new rules on:

•    information to be given to customers
•    the cancellation rights which your customer will be entitled to
•    charges for any post-contract customer phone-lines you offer
•    the express consent needed before you can charge for something
"If you don’t get it right, you may find yourself out of pocket. For more information and guidance go to:
http://www.tradingstandards.gov.uk/advice/advice-business.cfm

or

Partnership Proves Positive - Joint sticker campaign reaches half a million homes UK-wide

The Master Locksmiths Association (MLA) and the Neighbourhood and Home Watch Network (NHWN) have forged a positive home security partnership after a recent window sticker campaign reached over half a million homes in the UK.

Sponsored by the MLA, the co-branded sticker campaign was put into action to support the membership of the Neighbourhood and Home Watch movement and to drive consumers towards highly skilled, vetted and inspected MLA locksmiths.

The co-branded stickers were successful in raising the profile of the MLA and the services which its members provide. The reverse of the stickers featured MLA branding and information on how to find your local MLA approved locksmith.

In addition to this NHWN groups have been encouraged to get boxes of the MLA’s Handbook, published together with the Sold Secure Approved Products Catalogue and containing lots of useful security information as well as lists of MLA Approved Locksmiths, which they can distribute to their members. The latest edition is now available and NHWN groups are encouraged to contact the MLA’s head office to get their order in.

Kate Daisley, NHWN operations director, said:
“The MLA’s standing as a leading trade body for the locksmithing industry ties in perfectly with what the NHWN represents.

“A survey following this campaign has also revealed that 89% of people said that they would be more inclined to use the MLA’s service knowing that they were working in partnership with the NHWN.”

Dr Steffan George, development director at the MLA, said:
“As the leading approval body for the UK locksmithing industry, the MLA is proud to feature alongside such a historic and prestigious organisation as the NHWN.

“This campaign has been a great opportunity for MLA members, as it has reached communities and members of the public who may not have previously known about the MLA or if there was an MLA approved locksmith in their area.

“However most importantly this partnership has been of great benefit to the British public, as it has helped not only provide essential security information to NHWN members, but also drive business towards good, honest trades people who are dedicated towards providing the best possible service.”

Rare Aston Martin Ulster Set To Break World Record At Bonhams Goodwood Festival Of Speed Sale

A rare ex-Works Aston Martin Ulster CMC 614 with an incredible racing history is to be sold by Bonhams at the Goodwood Festival of Speed Sale on June 27th, 2014.
As one of only 21 production Ulster’s ever built, the works racer, estimated at £1,400,000 - 1,600,000, is expected to beat the existing world record of £1,300,000 set by Bonhams last December for a pre-war Aston Martin at auction.

Having competed in over one hundred races throughout its past nine decades, the Ulster is arguably the most extensively raced Aston Martin in the world.
This extraordinary motor car has raced every year since 1935 (excluding a rest period throughout the Second World War). Built for endurance and pace, the two-seater Ulster features a four-cylinder 1496cc engine, guaranteed to reach speeds of up to 100mph.

This Ulster’s racing debut came at the 1935 Mille Miglia. It continued to build its racing legacy in other international blue riband races throughout the 1930s, finishing eighth at the 1935 Le Mans 24-Hour race, and going on to complete the Targa Abruzzo 24-hour sports car event near Pescara, Italy, crossing the finishing line in third place overall, and first in class.

Many famous and historic drivers have competed in Ulster CMC 614. From iconic British racing driver Eddie Hall, to Count ‘Johnny’ Lurani - founder of the Italian Scuderia Ambrosiana Grand Prix racing team - to Tommy Clarke and Maurice Falkner who took it to eighth at Le Mans in 1935.

The Ulster continued to shine in competition over the ensuing 90 years and has been active as recently as April 2014 at the VSCC’s (Vintage Sports Car Club) Spring Start meeting.

As a period entrant in both the Mille Miglia and Le Mans races, CMC 614 is not only eligible but positively welcomed to the great historic motor sport events world-wide, to include the Mille Retrospective; Le Mans Classic; Goodwood Revival; Monterey Historic; California Mille and Colorado Grand.

James Knight, Bonhams Group Head of Motoring, said
“CMC 614 certainly has the potential to exceed the existing Ulster record we established a few months ago. This car has the added benefit of being a Works entry that competed at the very highest international level. It will attract international interest and we are looking forward to an exciting sale.”

Homeowners Desperate For Space Solutions As Numbers Of Stay-At-Home Adult Children Hits Record High

As more young adults chose to live at home with their parents, unable to get on the property ladder, IronmongeryDirect, the UK’s largest online and mail order supplier of ironmongery products to the trade, is seeing a significant rise in products designed to save space and offer storage solutions.

The number of 20 to 34 year-olds living with their parents has jumped by 669,000 in the last eight years according to the Office of National Statistics, to an astonishing 3.3 million people.

The issue is most acute in areas such as Northern Ireland, the West Midlands, the North West and Wales where, in some locations, as many as 36% of young adults are still living with mum and dad.

As a result, many homes are bursting at the seams trying to accommodate an ever-growing number of adults.

Wayne Lysaght-Mason, managing director of IronmongeryDirect, said:
“People are highly unlikely to move to a bigger home in order to accommodate grown-up children as often it’s seen (and hoped) to be a short term situation. Therefore, tradespeople are increasingly gaining work in helping to squeeze additional living and storage space out of an existing property.

“For example, one major issue is accommodating double beds into rooms that might previously have been for a child or a visitor’s room. One solution when space is tight is to add a sliding door, either in the entrance to the room of on fitted storage units. We’ve seen significant growth in demand for such products go hand in hand with the rise in young adults living at home.

“Another growing trend is for bathroom fittings that can be used to create mini en-suites, helping to solve the morning rush by adding small shower rooms onto existing bedrooms.

“We’ve certainly seen an increase in sales of these products as more houses are stretched to meet changing needs.”

SECUREFAST PLC one of the UK’s leading manufacturers and distributors of access control and locking products has acquired Innovative Electronic Technology Ltd. (IET), a UK manufacturer of access control systems incorporating building management software and hardware.

The technology is supported by advanced software, which provides a high level of building management capability as evidenced by it being chosen for the security of the whole of the site of the London Olympics in the construction stage. The IET range of products will be manufactured within the SECUREFAST group, enabling pricing to be highly competitive.

“Innovative Electronic Technology adds important new technology products to the current product portfolio offered by the SECUREFAST Group,” says Duncan Crawley, Group Managing Director. “The acquisition of Innovative Electronic Technology considerably enhances the Group’s position within the access control market and enables SECUREFAST to offer a more versatile British made product to its growing customer base”.

“Innovative Electronic Technology is an exciting addition to our portfolio, enabling SECUREFAST to incorporate both current reader options and more advanced biometrics via our established Entra access control package,” says David Sebire, Securefast Chairman.

The new Entra+ multi-site network system and associated products is expected to generate in excess of £1million of additional sales within the first year.

Innovative Electronic Technology Limited was founded in 1981 by David Leiper, following a distinguished career with a number of major electronics manufacturers. The Company is located in Potten End, Berkhamsted, UK, where the Group will create a centre for innovation, development and manufacture of electronic security products. Solar powered units for the lighting of bus shelters and public areas, is an example of another product developed by IET as an economic and eco-friendly solution where the cost of installing mains power would be uneconomic.

Award-winning bptw partnership specifies AluK building systems for the redevelopment of Shakespeare House, London

AluK window and door systems have been specified for the regeneration of Shakespeare House, Hackney, London, which saw 24 existing flats being converted into 18 high quality apartments. Working with Islington and Shoreditch Housing Association, bptw partnership reconfigured the existing housing block, installing additional windows to increase the amount of natural light and completely insulating the building to improve thermal efficiency.

For the refurbishment project the practice installed the 58BW window system as well as the 58BD and GT55 NI door systems on all the existing and proposed new elevations from ground to fifth floor level.

Justin Kelly, partner at bptw partnership comments:
“AluK window and door systems integrated very well with the design ethos of the project, with the window surrounds achieving the deep reveal effect that was proposed at the planning stage. The thermal performance matches the aspirations of the energy targets for the building – we are achieving the Code for Sustainable Homes targets on the new residential units.

“Deep reveals and window surrounds, new doors, as well as cladding, create a strong architectural feature and define the whole development, presenting it in a completely new light. The window frames are of significant slenderness, matching the architectural intent completely.”

The 58BW/BD window and door system offers a narrow profile solution with a unique polyamide thermal break design to improve thermal performance. For the Shakespeare House project the architects’ specified a U-value of 1.5.

The 58BW window system, as well as the GT55 NI, are certified under Secured by Design, a requirement essential to Islington and Shoreditch House Association.

AluK is one of a few UK manufacturers whose products are certified under the 'Secured by Design’ scheme operated by the Association of Chief Police Officers. AluK systems are tested to many levels of security: from opportunistic attack covered by PAS 24:2012, to higher levels of attack by organised crime covered by LPS 1175:SR2. Combined with the inherent strength of aluminium, AluK door and window systems are some of the most secure available on the market.
