Delta Security wins new maintenance contract with Gateway Housing

Delta Security, a specialist in automated high-security solutions, has won a new contract with Gateway Housing to provide full maintenance and repairs to the CCTV, access control and gate systems installed at Gateway’s portfolio of 3,000 residential properties.

The new three-year contract, which covers the East London boroughs of Tower Hamlets, Hackney and Newham, was won in a competitive tender including six other security suppliers. The tender was a part of a wider company drive to rationalise and professionalise all procurement. Criteria included value for money, customer-focused delivery and the ability to provide compliant and comprehensive support to all tenants within a set time period.

As part of the new contract Delta Security has also delivered a programme for planned upgrades and regular maintenance to support the Housing Association’s commitment to ‘pre-prevention maintenance’ (PPM).

John Gilbert, M&E Contracts Manager at Gateway Housing, says ensuring excellent customer service on maintenance projects is key to its continuous improvement goals:
“Dave Mundy, the MD of Delta Security, and I hold a combined vision for how we can further streamline processes to ensure our residents have the most efficient and effective maintenance and repairs service,” he says. “Delta has provided out-of-hours support to ensure this partnership starts in the best position, and so far, we could not ask for any more.”

Dave Mundy, Managing Director at Delta Security, says this is a significant new contract for the company:
“We have extensive experience in delivering maintenance repairs and system upgrades with the minimum of disruption to residents, combined with the utmost convenience for the Housing Association,” he says. “We are extremely pleased to add Gateway to our portfolio of Housing Association clients and look forward to delivering on this new partnership.”
“Supporting local SMEs is also extremely important to our organisation,” adds John. “We are therefore very pleased to be working with an East London business, and one that is large enough to manage demand, yet small enough to care!”

Hörmann UK introduces new style of sectional garage door

Europe’s leading door manufacturer, Hörmann UK, is transforming sectional garage doors with the launch of its new aluminium frame sectional garage door (ART 42).

Building on the durability, longevity and urban aesthetic of Hörmann UK’s industrial product offering, the new garage door range offers outstanding service life, security and thermal efficiency, combined with a contemporary visual style.

Featuring an aluminium frame that can be personalised with a range of infill options, professionals can capitalise on potential sales by offering customers the opportunity to create a unique aesthetic, whilst also maximising the available natural light. Customers can select from a range of 11 finishes, from synthetic double pane grey tinted glazing, to perforated stainless steel.

The aluminium frame can be coated in 15 different colours, or can be colour matched to complement existing windows and entrance doors. This again enables professionals to move away from the ‘one size fits all’ approach of traditional garage doors, providing customers with the flexibility to create a unique exterior to their property.

Also available for side garage doors, the ART 42 features a streamlined design for quick and easy installation that also supports comprehensive and straightforward servicing. For enhanced thermal performance, the ART 42 is available with a thermal break to improve insulation levels, whilst subsequently minimising drafts.

David O’Mara, Marketing Manager for Hörmann UK, said:
“Throughout Hörmann’s longstanding history, the design, supply and manufacture of garage doors has remained at the very core of the business. It’s this continuous research and development and commitment to providing the most innovative garage doors that has led to the launch of our new ART 42 sectional range.
“We wanted to provide installers with the ability to offer customers complete design freedom, with the opportunity for the garage door to complement existing entrance doors and windows through 11 different infill designs and 15 different frame colours.”
For further information on Hörmann UK’s domestic offering, call 01530 516850 or visit: www.hormann.co.uk.

Armed forces charity complete 2,000km extreme Saharan rally in Dacia Dusters

A team of 14 current and ex-military service personnel, some with severe physical and mental injuries, have completed the Carta Rallye in Morocco, an extreme 2,000km challenge that took place in the Sahara Desert, all in a trio of Dacia Dusters.

Over seven days between the 31st March and 6th of April, the Future Terrain team, a charity that supports career transition and rehabilitation mainly for those with physical and mental injuries, took on giant sand dunes, rocky roads, flooded tracks and harsh terrain – in Britain’s most affordable 4x4. The journey to Morocco was also just as arduous, with the team driving more than 2,000 miles from the UK and then all the way back home again.

While several specially-built rally cars costing hundreds of thousands were getting stuck overnight in the desert, the shockingly affordable Dusters made it back to the camp each evening after ten-hours of driving. The Dusters were near-standard, with little to no modifications made to them other than some racing seats, roll bars and all-terrain tyres.

The team took part in the GPS Challenge, a timed navigation-based event. Not just about podium results, the aim of the event for the charity was to build confidence and skills in the group that competed and challenge them to redefine themselves. However, the team aimed high and achieved second and third place finishes in some legs.

While the team were expecting a dustbowl, they arrived following highly unusual heavy rain and the first day of the rally saw the cars being driven through a far wetter environment than predicted, meaning that the challenge was even greater as they had to improvise and think even more carefully about the routes they were taking through the desert.

Scott Garthley

Scott Garthley, who was a Sergeant in the Adjutant General’s Corps, received several complex injuries following an explosion while serving in Iraq in 2003, including the need to amputate a limb in recent years. He was an expedition coordinator on the event and said:
“The event really threw up some challenges for us with the changeable weather. One-minute sunny weather, then heavy rain with poor visibility and sandstorms. It made navigation really tough.”
Grant White, co-founder of Future Terrain

On completing the rally, Grant White, co-founder of Future Terrain, said:
“The Carta Rallye is highly demanding even for the fittest able-bodied people, when you bring people into the mix who are in wheelchairs, with prosthetic limbs or have mental illness, it really ups the ante. It’s the first time we have driven these cars in this kind of environment and we found out the Dusters can even climb mountains as we went slightly off-piste! I sat there in wonder seeing people that only three to four weeks ago had never driven off-road but took these cars up things you just wouldn’t believe.”

Jason, who is paralysed, lowering tyre pressure before dunes

Ben Fletcher, Head of Dacia UK, said:
“I’m delighted to see the success that Future Terrain had in Morocco with the Duster. It’s been amazing to hear the stories from the team, how they overcame the challenges facing them and how their skills and confidence are growing with the support of the charity.”

The team of volunteers from Future Terrain now prepare themselves for the next challenges - racing the Dacia Dusters in the British Cross-Country Championship rally series as well as other events in the UK.

The All-New Duster starts at just £9,995 with the 4x4 version priced from just £13,710 OTR. It carries over the same off-roading credentials that helped make the previous model such a success with a high ground clearance of 210mm, approach and departure angles of 30 and 33 degrees respectively as well as Hill Descent Control and Hill Start Assist. Also as standard on 4x4 versions is a 4x4 monitor that incorporates a compass and notifies the driver of the vehicle’s angle in real time.

For more information on the Dacia range please visit www.dacia.co.uk.

Regular servicing can keep critical space invaders locked out

Leading lock specialist Pickersgill-Kaye (Kaye), a brand under ASSA ABLOY’s High Security & Safety Group, is encouraging those responsible for critical infrastructure sites to consider servicing contracts to help minimise the risk of costly breaches of security.

With terrorism posing a serious threat to the UK’s interests, perimeter fencing, doors and their locks are the first line of defence against potential intruders at installations such as chemical and power plants, gas terminals, oil refineries, utilities, transport, hospitals, research facilities and other major areas which need controlled access.

Safeguarding these vital facilities has become significantly more complex and an essential challenge for all major industries. Enlisting the services of security experts like Kaye offers facility managers preventative measures that can reduce deterioration of operational parts and identify faults before they become a potential problem.

Locks, which are the heart of any integrated security system, can take a pounding from human intervention and environmental conditions. Regular maintenance checks and rapid repairs of doors and locks can nip in the bud risks of unauthorised access to a secure site’s operations.

The High Security & Safety Group, a division of ASSA ABLOY Opening Solutions UK and Ireland, employs a team of qualified engineers that hold high level security clearance. They can provide a quick response throughout the country, including emergency call-outs, to resolve issues, repairing and replacing not only the locks but the high security doors as well, irrespective of the type or original manufacture.

Behind this support in the field is a 24-hour service hotline, a first-time fix policy – a service that is unique to the High Security & Safety Group, and planned, customised maintenance contracts to give total peace of mind that high security doors and their components are continuing to be fully fit for purpose.

Simon Teagle, Managing Director, High Security & Safety Group, said:
“Our fully trained and qualified engineers are able to service doors and components from other manufacturers, as well as ASSA ABLOY Group products, to maintain maximum operations on a high security installation. We believe that we offer the most reliable and robust solutions for essential services to ensure the long life of equipment designed to protect infrastructure and deter unwanted visitors.”
The company also provides consultancy and training for end users of its locks and high security systems, either at its UK manufacturing facility or the customer’s site.  Training is tailored to all levels of personnel and include supply of extensive documentation.

Locks supplied by Kaye can be seamlessly integrated with third party systems, have been rigorously tested to the highest standards and are recognised throughout the world for their reliability, robustness and longevity. These products can be supported by a proactive, maintenance regime to extend their lifetime and cover exceptional circumstances such as abuse and attack, which can lead to operational issues.

Trouble-free locks and doors are an integral factor to the smooth running of any secure facility and regular servicing will help diagnose and eliminate potential weak links in the defence of essential services. It is recognised that long term reliability gives greater value than short term fixes.

Resist the effects of salt spray corrosion with upgraded HOPPE handles

Residents and homeowners in coastal areas of the UK can now install door handles that are guaranteed to last at least 10 years.

It is estimated that three million people in the UK live on the coast. Homes in these areas are affected by marine corrosion, also known as sea or salt spray corrosion, which can lead to significant property damage, particularly to any exposed metal elements. However, nowhere in the UK is more than 70 miles from the coast, so even homes that are not directly on the seafront can also be affected by marine corrosion.

Low quality door hardware will fail very quickly in these types of areas. Residents will notice hardware becoming tarnished or discoloured and the appearance of spots. Corrosion doesn’t just affect the handle’s appearance. Once corrosion sets in, it can damage the internal workings of the handle meaning the only option is to replace it which, depending on the type of door, could be costly.

HOPPE’s Atlanta handle range with the Resista® finish has been designed to ensure it can withstand the effects of weathering. Made from one of the only metals with a strong resistance to corrosion, the new solid brass based handles are suitable for all residential properties, even those in coastal areas.

Lisa Nightingale, door and window sales manager at HOPPE (UK), said:

“The latest product offering from Resista® promises the same high quality and levels of durability regardless of the property’s location. With the new heavier, sturdier design you can truly feel the quality of the handle with every use.

“But, just because it is high quality doesn’t mean it is high maintenance. There’s no need for special cleaning measures, any dirt can be easily removed with just a damp cloth. It really is a fit and forget product, perfect for homeowners who have plenty of other things to worry about.”

As part of HOPPE’s commitment to high quality products, Resista® handles have a 10 year surface guarantee. This is in addition to the 10 year mechanical operation guarantee that applies to all HOPPE door and window handles.

Available in two finishes, polished brass or polished chrome, the Atlanta handle range with the Resista® finish conforms to EN 1670 which covers the corrosion resistance of locks and hardware.

To find out more about the Resista® finishes, contact Lisa by email or call her on 01902 484494.

TV & Dance star Ashley Banjo takes delivery of High-Performance ‘Eleanor’ Mustang GT500CS

TV presenter, choreographer and creative director behind street dance group ‘Diversity’ Ashley Banjo has taken delivery of a Mustang GT500CS by Sutton Bespoke – a fully-restored and comprehensively modified version of a classic 1967 Ford Mustang.

The car features significantly enhanced acceleration and top speed, improved handling characteristics and sympathetic updates to the iconic styling.

The styling of Ashley’s GT500CS is modelled on the look of the ‘Eleanor’ Mustang from blockbuster action movie ‘Gone in 60 seconds’, distinguished by its modern Magnetic Metallic grey paint, black racing stripes from nose to tail, and centrally-mounted lamps in the front lower grille.

All of the engineering, tuning and styling work on the GT500CS has been carried out in the UK by Sutton Bespoke and its carefully selected group of technical partners.

Banjo, who has appeared on many prime-time television shows – including as a judge on ITV1’s Dancing on Ice and host of Channel 4’s Flirty Dancing – commented:
“It’s been great to work with Clive Sutton and his team to build my dream car. There definitely isn’t another car built to the same specification in the world – remodelled with modern technology from the ground up, with a 500 bhp 5.4-litre V8 engine and a beautiful hand-restored body. I am in love with this car and have been since I was a kid. Thank you, Clive Sutton, once again for building this with me and making it real. I am very, very lucky!”

At the heart of the ground-up GT500CS restoration is a full re-build of the donor car’s 5.0-litre, bhp V8 engine, taking it to 5.4 litres and nearly 500 bhp through the introduction of hypereutectic pistons, high-performance camshaft and eight-port fuel injection manufactured in the UK and derived from that found in the original Ford GT40. Console switchable ECU provides three custom states of tunes for road, race and track.

The Mustang’s standard four-speed transmission has been replaced with a modern five-speed Tremec manual unit, directing power to the rear wheels. The new suspension is an adjustable coil-over set-up at the front, with rebound and bump adjustment and also ride-height adjustment. The rear also features height-adjustable coil springs.

Modern 14-inch diameter high-performance front brakes with six-piston calipers help to keep the performance in check. To give voice to the car’s famed V8 ‘burble’, Sutton Bespoke has fitted an active exhaust system with optional loud and soft settings.

Giving a contemporary look to the ‘Eleanor’-themed exterior design, the brightwork is powder-coated in satin black, and the same finish is applied to the 18-inch alloy wheels. LED lighting adds another modern twist to the eye-catching exterior.

Inside, the Mustang cabin has been completely refitted and enhanced to Banjo’s exacting specifications. Period-style dials sit alongside LED gauges, all housed in a carbon-finish dashboard. A custom-made carbon-finish centre console surrounds an array of modern controls for features such as active exhaust control.

The plethora of in-cabin technology includes a Morel audio system with DAB, satellite navigation, Apple Car Play-equipped infotainment, a bespoke automatic boot opening function, reversing camera, remote control locking and tracker.

The interior surfaces have been trimmed in high-quality black Nappa leather with dark grey stitching – extending to the door panels, rear quarter panels, centre console trim and dashboard. New Recaro front seats are finished in ‘Daytona’ style, with the rear seats trimmed to match.

The headlining, sun visors, and boot are all fully trimmed in dark Alcantara, and custom, leather-wrapped Mota-Lita steering wheel finishes the bold interior look. The boot, which is also full trimmed, accommodates a custom-built Morel subwoofer, amplifier and ambient lighting.

Although Ashley’s car is built to his individual taste and requirements, Sutton Bespoke is taking commissions for the restoration and enhancement of other period Mustangs. Guide pricing for the GT500CS is dependent on specification, with a build time of approximately 12 to 16 months.
