Squire launches new Inigma remote control access

British security specialist Squire has launched Inigma, one of the world’s most secure smart security systems for remote control access.

Designed and engineered by Squire, the British name behind the world’s strongest production padlock, Inigma electronic technology takes lock security to the highest level.

Squire’s new generation Inigma electronic high security system offers convenient, secure access control for remote locations, from just one user to many thousands of users.

Importantly, Inigma has been independently tested and approved to the highest level, achieving the BSI Secure Digital Applications Kitemark™ for its operating system in padlocks, cylinders and bike locks.

The famous Kitemark symbol is widely recognised all over the world as a mark of trust.

It requires rigorous testing and assessment for it to be achieved by companies that meet these international benchmarks.

Using smartphone access, what makes Inigma different is that just one app can control multiple cylinders and padlocks.

From transport, containers, commercial premises, retail, construction, perimeter gates, power plants, water utilities, oil and gas, mobile phone masts, infrastructure to farming and agriculture, healthcare to student accommodation.

Using Bluetooth BLE communication, the Inigma wireless access control system works by connecting the smart locks to a secure cloud server via a mobile network and a clever smartkey.

Just one key can open over 10,000 locks, and it can record over 10,000 locks visited.

The key works in tandem with a smartphone to provide near-real-time functionality, including key re-validation and permission changes, all co-ordinated from the Inigma app.

And the key is rechargeable, it only needs to be recharged every three to four months based on normal use.

Features of the Inigma system - which is Android and Apple IOS compatible - include ultra-secure AES 256-bit encryption, an easy-to-use interface and extremely flexible scheduling and grouping, enabling the implementation of complex security schemes.

It also provides a comprehensive audit trail of locks visited, enables access to be given or revoked easily, and it supports online and remote programming.

User friendly and easy to use, all the user needs is the smartkey and smartphone.

Low cost and easy to install, it requires no hard wiring or expensive authorisers.

Inigma is available across a range of Squire products including euro cylinders and Squire’s formidable high security Stronghold® range of padlocks and Marine range.

Security cylinders are available in double and half euro profiles, Scan Inner/Outer cylinders and Kik cylinders, and the key features a low battery warning indicator light.

The electronics are located on the inside of the door for extra protection.

Features of the Inigma Stronghold® padlock range, which comes in many sizes and shackle variants, include solid hardened steel lock body, electrophoretic anti-corrosion finish, hardened boron alloy steel shackle, anti-drill protection and high corrosion resistance for harsh environments.

The integration with Stronghold® brings added reassurance that the padlocks themselves have been tested in-house, as proof they can withstand the harshest of attack.

And most of the extra high security Stronghold® range has the added benefit of being CEN tested and approved.

Squire is recognised for some of the technologically advanced products in lock making, such as the ultra-high security, dual cylinder SS100 padlock, designed as the world’s strongest production padlock.

The latest version SS100CS LEV5 (closed shackle) is the first to achieve the LPCB (Loss Prevention Certification Board) highest level SR5 certification.

It features exceptional angle-grinder resistant material which sets it apart from any other padlock on the market.

Available as open and closed shackle versions, the SS100CS features a super heavy-duty 4.3kg solid steel lock body which is capable of a tensile pull of over 24 tonnes.

The Squire name has been at the forefront of lock making since 1780, with a great British history carried down through eight generations, unrivalled in its experience.

Squire manufactures some of the most advanced lock designs on the market for commercial, home and two-wheel security - cylinders, padlocks, combination locks, multi-purpose lock and chain sets, security cables, bolts, hasps and staples, and security accessories.

Its range of top security products are tested to global security and fire safety standards to ensure the finest tolerances, reliability and outstanding performance.

Secured by Design at the MLA Expo 2023

Secured by Design (SBD), the official police crime prevention initiative will be at the MLA Expo at the Telford International Centre from the 20th to 22nd of October 2023.

Run by the Master Locksmiths Association (MLA), the expo is the premier locksmith & security exhibition in Europe, featuring exhibitors and attendees from all across the world.

The importance for buildings of all types to be physically secure to deter criminal activity, reduce crime and keep people safe is why SBD has worked with the government, businesses, the construction industry and standards authorities at home and abroad for many years. This led SBD to develop a product-based police accreditation scheme nearly 25 years ago – the Police Preferred Specification.

Police Preferred Specification ensures that products have been independently tested to a relevant security standard and fully certified by an independent third-party, United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) certification body, or tested and certified by an approved body such as Sold Secure or Thatcham.

Indeed SBD instigated the formation of the UK Test House Studies Group and Certification Bodies Group for door, window and lock products and have chaired these groups for almost 25 years with the sole aim being to ensure there is parity between test and certification bodies.

Police Preferred Specification requires regular re-testing and annual inspection of the manufacturing facility to ensure quality and performance are maintained (by a UKAS body). This provides assurance that products have been produced under a controlled manufacturing environment in accordance with the specifier’s aims and minimises misrepresentation of the products by unscrupulous manufacturers/suppliers.

Better quality means these products last longer too, making them more cost effective and leading to greater sustainability in crime prevention.

Come along and visit us at stand TB1 to find out more about both our work and the Police Preferred Specification if you're exhibiting at, or visiting, the show.

ASSA ABLOY highlights Building Safety Act updates to the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order 2005

ASSA ABLOY Opening Solutions UK & Ireland is raising awareness of recent changes made to the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (FSO) to improve fire safety in buildings, triggered by Section 156 of the Building Safety Act 2022.

These improvements came into effect on 1st October 2023, and form Phase 3 of the Home Office’s fire safety reform programme, building on Phase 1 (the Fire Safety Act 2021) and Phase 2 (the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022).

This phase 3 further strengthens fire safety in all FSO regulated premises by increasing requirements in relation to the recording and sharing of fire safety information to create a continual record throughout a building’s lifespan.

Other updates include improving cooperation and coordination between responsible persons, ensuring residents have access to comprehensive information about fire safety in their building, and making it easier for enforcement authorities to act against non-compliance.

The Home Office has published three new fire safety guides that are intended to replace the previous guide to making premises safe from fire.

The fire risk assessment checklist has also been updated to enable responsible individuals understand and meet the new requirements.

Brian Sofley, Managing Director at ASSA ABLOY Opening Solutions, commented:

“We fully support the Building Safety Act, and welcome the new updates to the Fire Safety Order.

“We are seeing a critical need for the recording and sharing of fire safety information, and a way to record and continuously update vital information about a building throughout its lifespan.

“We should be managing buildings as holistic systems and allowing people to use information to design, construct and operate their buildings safely and effectively.

“This ‘golden thread’ approach is the key to making buildings safer and keeping them safe for the future, as outlined in the Hackitt report.

“We now have so many digital tools at our disposal such as Building Information Modelling (BIM), utilising these will help us record and share information, and keep it up to date to enable greater transparency and safer environments.”

BIM allows building elements such as doorsets to be managed through a single platform - from specification to installation and ongoing inspection.

For example, ASSA ABLOY’s Openings Studio™ BIM application integrates with design software to create and visualise openings for complete door, frame and hardware schedules and specifications.

This enables seamless extraction of door design intent and all relevant interfaces to assist fabricators to develop complete door requirements that meet building regulations.

Product information, performance data and budget information are captured within the BIM design environment.

Through real time, collaborative working, these designs can be validated for compliance, functional performance, and aesthetics plus presented as 3D views that can be fully re-integrated into the overall project design.

Ongoing inspections can also be captured based on the specific details of each door included in the schedule.

This report validates if a door has remained compliant, or identifies what elements need to be corrected or replaced to return the product to the standard required, providing full traceability and ownership of all changes at all stages.

Brian adds:

“BIM applications can help to lock in positive behaviours from the very start of a project, and support an increase in trust and confidence that safety is paramount throughout a building’s specification, construction and maintenance.

“Only by working collaboratively will we see a step change in the industry to raise standards - not only in the construction of buildings to make them safer, but also ensuring they are continually assessed and maintained to uphold compliance.”

To find out more about BIM, Openings Studio™ and how ASSA ABLOY Opening Solutions can help your organisation, please call 0845 071 0882, email ukspecification@assaabloy.com or visit www.assaabloyopeningsolutions.co.uk/specification.

Matt Damon’s movie motorbike premiers at National Motor Museum

A Greek police motorcycle ridden by Matt Damon as Jason Bourne in Paul Greengrass' action-thriller sequel Jason Bourne is now at the National Motor Museum Beaulieu.

In the film Bourne rode this motorcycle through a riot in Athens, after stealing it from a police officer.

The scene featuring the bike sees Jason Bourne use the motorcycle to fight off police and ‘The Asset’ played by Vincent Cassel, before rescuing Nicky played by Julia Stiles.

The motorcycle is a 2015 Husqvarna FE 450 modified with front blue police lights, a rear police light stand that was damaged for the production, a rear carrying case and pannier decorated with Greek police decals.

Filming for the sequence with the bike took place on the island of Tenerife in 2015 for the movie which was released in 2016.

A HeyUGuys video is available with footage of the bike in the film and an interview with Matt Damon: www.facebook.com/watch

The motorbike is on display in the On-Screen Cars exhibition at Beaulieu, and the bike is on loan to the Museum from the owner Gordon Grant.

Patrick Collins, Curator of Vehicles and Research at the National Motor Museum says:

“Our fine collection of vehicles at the Museum includes some that have starred in TV and film favourites – from the mini driven by Mr Bean to the iconic Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

“The Jason Bourne bike is the first action-thriller film star on two wheels, and it’s great to have it included in the On-Screen Cars exhibition at Beaulieu.”

A full calendar of events and exhibitions is held at Beaulieu by the National Motor Museum. Details are available at www.nationalmotormuseum.org.uk/events

ADSA Charity Golf Day ‘Best by Par’

A golf day organised by the Automatic Door Suppliers Association (ADSA) turned out to be its ‘best by par’ raising approximately £3,500 for charity.

The event, at Branston Golf and Country Club, Staffordshire, saw 28 teams - made up from 34 of ADSA’s members – battling to take the top spot.

Winners of the ADSA Cup were SDG Access, of Lincoln, who were delighted with their achievement – one member was so thrilled that he stood on his chair to enjoy a moment of celebration when the winning team was announced.

Runners-up were new ADSA member Hephaestus Solutions (HSL), who played on home turf, based in nearby Burton upon Trent. And in third place, were last year’s champions, Copperjax Contract Maintenance, from Kent.

Individual awards were presented for ‘nearest the pin’ on the 16th, 17th and 18th holes, longest drive on holes three and ten and a novelty putting competition on the practice green. Some of the holes were sponsored by ADSA’s corporate members.

The day started with a golfers’ breakfast prior to tee-off on an 18-hole championship course and culminated with dinner at the Pavilion, attended by 140 people.

A raffle was held following dinner, with prizes including a round of golf at Enville Golf Course, a golf bag, a ‘pub in a box’, spirits, food hampers and gift vouchers.

All funds raised are being donated to ADSA’s chosen charities:

Golf Fanatics – a charity that provides mobility equipment to young people
Lighthouse Construction Charity
Changes, Tamworth

ADSA MD Ken Price said:

“The ADSA charity golf day is always a much anticipated date for the diary and this year, it was bigger and better than ever before. In the main, we were blessed with good weather and everyone had a great time.

“One of the highlights of the event, was the raffle from which we managed to raise a serious amount of money for our chosen charities and we would sincerely like to thank members, suppliers and partners who generously donated prizes.”

These included: BEA, Branston Golf and Country Club, Crucial Engineering, Door Industry Journal, Dormakaba, FAAC Entrance Solutions, GEZE UK, GFI, Horton Automatics, Insight Automation, Koru Media, L2 Media, Label UK, RTR Services and Tillymint Communications.

In celebration of Mul-T-Lock’s 50th anniversary, the security specialist is ready to introduce the latest innovations alongside its latest portfolio of powerful mechanical and electromechanical solutions.

Appearing at the MLA Exp, on stand H2.28, will be Mul-T-Lock’s impressive electromechanical access control range – eCLIQ and SMARTair, together with Traka21 key management systems.

On display will be Mul-T-Lock’s complete mechanical portfolio of master key suites with live demonstrations of its premium protection MTL800, a high-security range of padlocks and new additions to Mul-T-Lock’s commercial vehicle protection range.

Says Claire Blakemore, Mul-T-Lock UK Managing Director:

“The return of the MLA Expo could not have come at a better time.

“With increasing crime levels, especially in commercial, residential, education, retail, vehicle and rural sectors, we have a duty of care to come together as an industry to offer essential peace of mind protection.

“As Diamond Partners, we will set the standard to unveil our latest product solutions to complement our evolving access control portfolio.

“We will update our network of professional locksmiths with our latest mechanical and electromechanical solutions.

“And it’s a perfect opportunity to discuss individual projects, engage with attendees, share insights and offer bespoke security solutions.”

Mul-T-Lock’s extensive master key suite will showcase its complete patented range, from the MTL200, MTL300 and MTL300 Break Secure 3XP, MTL400, MTL500, MTL600 and premium protection available through the newly launched MTL800, which along with our eCLIQ offering has been installed in the MLA headquarters.

MTL600 will be featured on a display door for visitors to experience for themselves the real capabilities of the powerful protection system.

In padlocks, Mul-T-Lock will be highlighting its complete range, from the versatile high security, CEN-rated C Series to the robust Diamond Hasp Lock and the Sold Secure Diamond rated NE/NG range.

Both offer high-security CEN-rated mechanical solutions and also have the ability to integrate with Mul-T-Lock’s eCLIQ access control to secure even remote locations.

Mul-T-Lock’s new additions to its vehicle protection portfolio will introduce an entry-level MVP1000 system, together with an advanced MVP3000.

Both are designed to complement the popular MVP2000 which has proven to act as a significant visual deterrent and help in the fight against vehicle crime.

Claire concludes:

“At MLA Expo, our ambition is to bring together our impressive array of products, including advanced locking systems, electromechanical solutions, and high-security cylinders.

“With a focus on patented technological innovation, we want to demonstrate that Mul-T-Lock can address the evolving security challenges faced by locksmiths, homeowners and businesses alike.

“It’s also a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our 50th anniversary with our locksmith family.

“We look forward to seeing our existing customers and inviting new partners on our journey with us, to discover how our solutions can elevate security practices and set new benchmarks for a more secure world.

“And watch out for some special prizes, competitions, discounts and giveaways for all those who attend!”
