Hörmann Introduce operational training videos

Three individual training videos have been produced by Hörmann UK aimed at providing a quick and easy guide to the use of their integrated loading bay equipment.

Covering the operation of their level access doors and both swing lip and telescopic dock levellers, QR codes will be applied to the operating panels enabling operators, or new tenants to the site, immediate access to the relevant video.

The training video for the safe operation of a Hörmann industrial sectional door and WA500 control provides simple instructions on how to operate the door and outlines safe working procedures.

Highlighting key features such as the leading-edge safety device which detects objects or pedestrians during operation and immediately stops the door and the mechanical lock which prevents the door from being opened, the video also illustrates the simple operation of the WA500 control panel.

All of the training videos have been produced to ensure that safe working practices are adopted from day one when operating Hörmann loading bay systems.

They are yet another example of the emphasis that the company places on access to comprehensive training materials and ensuring the safe operation of their equipment.

To view the Level access door training video scan the QR code.

Abloy UK’s eCLIQ achieves UK Gold standard for Retrofit PAS24 Doorsets

Abloy UK is proud to announce its eCLIQ Electronic Key/Cylinder Locking System has achieved Gold standard certification in both SS504:2024 Smart Locks for Domestic and Similar Building and SS312:2024 Cylinders for Locks from Sold Secure, making eCLIQ the only mechatronic cylinder platform to receive the prestigious Secure Connected Device accreditation from Secured by Design (SBD).

The eCLIQ system offers programmable keys and secure locking cylinders that are tailored for environments such as universities, schools, hospitals, and accommodations.

Designed to replace traditional master key systems, eCLIQ delivers both security and flexibility to its users.

The SBD Secure Connected Device accreditation, developed in consultation with the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), enables companies to assess products against all 13 provisions of the ETSI EN 303 645 standard.

This certification not only demonstrates compliance with legislation but also safeguards products and customers against evolving cyber needs.

With the rise of consumer IoT products, including safety-relevant devices like door locks, home automation systems, and smart home assistants, ensuring robust security measures is paramount.

Compliance with the Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure Act 2022 (PSTIA 2022) is also critical, highlighting the critical need for businesses to ensure adherence to its provisions.

This legislation sets stringent requirements aimed at enhancing consumer protection and cyber security across the UK market.

The regulatory framework outlined within the law encompasses three main security features including universal default password prohibition, vulnerability disclosure policy mandate and software update transparency.

Adam Davies, Product Manager – Digital Key Systems at Abloy UK, said:

“We are extremely proud that our eCLIQ cylinders are now Secured by Design accredited.

“Our products are being specified more and more in large projects around the UK with the SBD certification being requested in both retrofit and new build projects within the commercial and residential markets.”

Hazel Goss, at Secured by Design, said:

“I am delighted that Abloy UK’s eCLIQ has achieved the Secure Connected Device accreditation, having met the required standards for both its physical and cyber security attributes.

“It is the first product to achieve the Sold Secure SS504:2024 Specification for smart locks for domestic and other similar buildings. eCLIQ has also achieved the IASME Level 2 IoT Cyber Assurance certificate.”

For further information on products and services available from Abloy UK visit bit.ly/3RsZcUP, email info@abloy.co.uk or call 01902 364 500.

Garador’s Innovative Durabelt now available on Garaglide Garage Doors

Garador’s innovative Durabelt anti-scratch system is now available with Garador’s popular GaraGlide roller garage doors.

This Garador Durabelt is an exciting new development in modern garage roller doors, designed specifically to reduce marks and scratches on the surface of the curtain.

The system is built around a special belt made from microcellular polyurethane elastomer which provides a strong protective layer between each lath of the garage door as it rolls up on opening.

Full testing by Garador’s specialised engineering team has confirmed that when garage doors are fitted with this additional protective layer, scratches and marks are substantially reduced, prolonging both the performance and look of the roller door.

In addition, the belt offers high abrasion resistance and is also resistant to moisture, oil and grease, helping to ensure a smooth operation and even more long-lasting protection for the door curtain.

Jon Watson, managing director of Garador, says:
“Over the years Garador has been at the forefront of many new developments in garage doors. The new Durabelt system is a significant technical development offering real benefit to our popular roller garage doors and we are delighted we are now able to offer this on our specialised GaraGlide doors.”
Garador’s GaraGlide roller garage door is already a top seller, designed not just for looks and performance but also for its quick and easy fit.

Available in a pre-assembled box cover system, it has pre-drilled guide rails and as few as 12 fixings all around. Fitting neatly into just two double-wall cardboard boxes, it is also easy to transport to the site.

GaraGlide comes in a large choice of colours including timber effect finishes, and can be fully automated.

Century of Motoring History Represented at H&H Auction

More than 100 classic, collectable and performance cars with a combined estimated value of more than £4m will be offered for sale at H&H Classics next auction taking place on 19th June at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford.

The sale offers a cornucopia of classics, whether Veteran, mainstream or modern, with every decade from the 1900s through to the 2000s represented. Lots include early Lotus models from the late Graham Nearn’s collection, a Triumph Stag featured in the Dennis Waterman television series ‘New Tricks’, a Mercedes-Benz 500SL first owned by motorsport legend Sir Stirling Moss, rare limited-edition specials as well as concours standard restorations.

“Enthusiasts and collectors looking for the next addition to their garage are sure to find something which appeals in our upcoming auction,” comments Damian Jones, director, of H&H Classics. “As well as offering some fantastic and rare motorcars, there is also a host on offer which have fascinating histories and stories to tell, representing some of the iconic and golden days of motoring. Given such quality and variety, we can look forward to some furious bidding and action on the saleroom floor.”

The oldest car in the sale is a 1904 Bayard Type AC2K twin-cylinder rear entrance tonneau which is estimated between £80,000-100,000. The car has been dated by the Veteran Car Club of Great Britain and finished numerous London to Brighton Veteran Car Runs. Featuring some useful upgrades, including a starter motor and a windscreen wiper, it requires some re-commissioning after several years in a private collection.

The SS Jaguar 100 is one of THE archetypal pre-war British sports cars and for someone seeking out a fine, original matching-numbers model, H&H’s 1938 2 ½-litre is the answer. The highest value lot of the sale, estimated at £230,000-270,000, it was in one family’s ownership from 1938 until 2002, and a second family from 2002 to 2022. A recent engine overhaul and mechanical work further add to its appeal.

Meanwhile, a younger, matching-numbers 1958 Jaguar XK150 3.4 Drophead Coupe is one of very few specified with automatic transmission. It was supplied new to Ireland and returned to the UK in 1989 - it has been in the vendor’s tenure for 23 years, during which time it has been fitted with some sensible upgrades. Said to have an excellent engine and gearbox the vendor notes that even the clock is working, the car is estimated to fetch between £70,000-80,000.

For fans of one of the most iconic British car marques, a matching-numbers 1967 Aston Martin DB6 offers much swinging-‘60s British glamour. Coming to the sale with an estimate of £180,000-220,000, in the past two decades it has enjoyed a re-paint and partial re-trim.

A Speed 25 SC Charlesworth saloon, estimated between £60,000-70,000, and registered in October 1940 is the last pre-WW2 Alvis built. In recent years it has seen £58,000 worth of work, that including an engine overhaul and front suspension refurbishment, along with some attention to the bodywork.

Offering a different take on the four-door saloon theme is a 1970 Ford Cortina 1600E ‘World Cup’. Ford supplied 30 examples to that year’s England squad, this example being loaned to striker Franny Lee, who subsequently bought it for his wife. The Cortina, which was thoroughly restored in the 1990s, is estimated at £50,000-60,000.

For lovers of Lotus, a trio of early models from Caterham Cars founder Graham Nearn offer much marque-related provenance. The oldest car, a 1952 MkVI prototype has a competition past and is estimated at £40,000-50,000. A 1953 MkVI ‘works demonstrator’ that was raced at Goodwood in 1953 by Colin Chapman has a £35,000-40,000 estimate, and a 1960 7 Series 1, which has featured in many Lotus books, is estimated at £25,000-30,000.

Keeping with well-known names – but in this case acting rather than automotive – the sale includes the 1975 Triumph Stag driven by actor Dennis Waterman in the BBC series ‘New Tricks’, which graced the small screen between 2002 and 2015. The car, estimated between £18,000-22,000, also featured at the actor’s memorial service where it was joined by the Ford Consul GT from ‘The Sweeney’ and the Ford Capri from ‘Minder’. The history file goes back to 1982, and it should be noted there’s still a Dennis Waterman cigarette burn on the driver’s seat, sustained during filming.

Also enjoying a showbusiness connection is a restored 1972 Lancia Fulvia Sport 1600 Zagato originally owned by radio and television broadcaster David Jacobs. It enters the sale with a £23,000-27,000 estimate.

The sale includes more than a dozen no-reserve cars including a 1927 Rolls-Royce 20hp fabric saloon that has not been seen publicly since the 1970s. A 1965 Rolls-Royce Phantom V (restored in the 1990s), a 1959 Alvis TD21 and a 1989 ERA Mini Turbo are also offered at no reserve.

All lots can be viewed in person from midday on Tuesday 18th June with the sale commencing at 1pm on Wednesday 19th. Anyone looking to bid on any of the vehicles can do so in person, online, by telephone or by commission bid.

To register to bid or to view more details about any of the lots on offer, visit www.handh.co.uk.

Stuart is New ADSA Chair

Stuart Dale, Key Account Sales Director for FAAC Entrance Solutions UK, has been elected as the new Chair of the Automatic Door Association.

He will undertake the role, providing strategic guidance and input to support the key deliverables of the association over the next two years. Stuart takes over from Mark Ayton, Managing Director of Record UK who previously held the position.

Stuart, has worked in the automatic door industry for almost 20 years, having previously worked in sales within the engineering sector. He has been a member of the ADSA executive committee for the past five years - an involvement which he considers has prepared him for this new role.
“The executive committee provides leadership and guidance to the association to ensure that it operates effectively and in line with its objectives. In taking on the role of chair, I hope to extend my support to the leadership team, and advocate in the interests of those involved in the automatic door industry – manufacturers, suppliers and engineers,” he said.
Stuart, who is from Manchester, trained as an apprentice electrical engineer at Weir Pumps and attended Openshaw Technical College, gaining industry standard qualifications. A role in service sales with the Crawford Group followed, before a move into the automatic door industry with Mandor Engineering in 2004.

He joined Record UK in 2010 as Regional Sales Manager and was Sales Director with March Doors before joining FAAC UK almost 10 years ago.

He said among his career highlights was how his company responded to changing demands during the COVID pandemic.
“One of our customers, who became an essential retailer, wanted to ensure a safe flow of people in and out of their stores. The team at FAAC were able to design and implement a traffic light system within a three month period, from conception through to install, which was then put into over 1000 stores,” he recalled.
Stuart is married to Lindsey and has two children, Alfie and Ruby, aged 19 and 14. Outside of work he enjoys watching football and is a lifelong fan of Manchester United.

He is looking forward to working with the ADSA team to further help the association to grow and meet its requirements to boost industry-wide competency levels and raise awareness of security and safety standards.

Said ADSA MD Ken Price:
“We look forward to working with Stuart and tapping into his knowledge of sales and marketing to ensure that the association continues to meet the needs of its members, its customers and end users.”

Stuart is the guest on the next ADSA Tech Talk podcast which can be played from the image above or downloaded from www.podbean.com and most streaming services.

“It has been a pleasure to renew membership with ERA, Fab&Fix and ZOO Hardware who have been long standing members with SBD since 2012.

“They have an amazing range of locks and hardware for both residential and commercial markets, including smart locks which have achieved the Secured Connected Device Accreditation.

“I’m looking forward to many more years working alongside them.”

SBD is the only way for companies to obtain police recognition for security-related products in the UK.

Northwest Labs UKAS Accredited Test Facilities Offer a Surefire Approach to Testing

Northwest Labs is the UK’s newest and most agile UKAS-accredited door hardware testing facility.

Situated in the UK and accredited by the UK Accreditation Service (UKAS), this facility marks a significant milestone in the industry.

It offers real-time test data as the testing happens for the first time and rapid certification to EN 1154 to expedite product launches.

With sixteen test rigs and advanced Sure-Fire technology, Northwest Labs guarantees instant, real-time test data for door hardware components, delivered directly to an innovative desktop portal.

This pioneering approach to testing gives clients invaluable, instantaneous visual and data insights into the test results, facilitating informed decision-making and product refinement.

“With a manufacturing background, our primary motivation stems from addressing the prevalent challenges manufacturers encounter when bringing their products to market.

“We recognised the urgent need to overcome the existing hurdles, including the arduous process of booking and initiating tests, lack of clarity and communication throughout the testing phase, and delays in receiving comprehensive reports.

“We have established a flexible, streamlined, and transparent testing environment, ensuring prompt and efficient services that offer manufacturers more control over their testing programme.”

The facility’s customer portal, designed for interaction and transparency, allows clients to monitor the testing process and assess test data in real-time.

This portal gives manufacturers unprecedented visibility into their products' performance, enabling swift adjustments and enhancements as needed.

As a UKAS-accredited laboratory, the facility can conduct annual audits on door hardware and initial product testing.

This comprehensive approach ensures compliance with industry standards and regulations, instilling confidence in clients and end-users alike.

Northwest Labs is a leading provider of testing solutions for the door hardware sector.

With a commitment to innovation and excellence, Northwest Labs empowers manufacturers and suppliers with reliable testing services and real-time insights, driving success in today’s competitive market.
