Glideline adds integrated flooring option to offer an even sleeker GS20 aluminium sliding door

Nationwide aluminium manufacturer Glideline has launched a sleek new update to its already super slimline GS20 Sliding Patio Door, which now features an option for ‘integrated flooring’.

The change in design offers a door that is completely flush with the floor, adding to its super-slim framework, minimalist design, and 20mm sightline.

Glideline has seen an increase in sales of its GS20 Slimline Sliding Patio Doors this year, with the demand for big glass and uninterrupted views going nowhere but up for homeowners, commercial and retail projects alike.

More choice More PACE

GEZE UK is delighted to announce several new products have been added to their range of pedestrian traffic control systems, PACE, to give even more choice when selecting solutions that offer safe and efficient control of pedestrians in and out of buildings.

All products are supplied and installed in accordance to EN 17352:2022 – the standard for powered turnstiles and speed lanes that was harmonised in August 2023.

New to the range are the SL 550 and SL 900 speed gates with stylish folding high gates and a reliable, robust design that guarantees effective protection of the building making them ideal for banks and offices.

The popular SW 100 range has been extended to include two extra wide options. The SW 100 Wide and SW 100 High Glass Wide both offer a passage of 1200mm perfect for ease of carrying luggage and wheelchair access.

OX S, OX M and OX XL are a new series of aesthetically pleasing turnstiles with ergonomic design and efficient control – ideal for high traffic flow locations.

More cost effective than manual checks and providing round the clock control in buildings that are operational 24 hours a day, pedestrian access control is ideal for controlling access to any part of a building that requires it, as well as the main entrance.

The PACE range can be tailored to the needs of any specification, compatible with many control devices - push button, card reader – available as single or bi-directional use, and different lane widths. To complement the design or match automatic doors different finishes can be specified – brushed stainless steel, polished stainless steel, or RAL powder coating.

Where security is a high priority, options include high panels and anti-tailgating functions. IRIS readers, and finger-print or face recognition devices can also be integrated. But whatever the demand for security, the visual aspect of the building is never compromised.

Controlling large numbers of people entering or leaving a building ensures their safety but, in an emergency, or power failure, all motorised systems can be used freely in both directions.

New Square Forend Locks from ARRONE

ARRONE, a HOPPE brand, has extended its range of mortice satin stainless steel locks to provide options for both door manufacturers and on-site installers.

Already available with a radius corner, ideal for large-volume door manufacturers where the cut-out is made using CNC machinery, new products within the AR800 range now contain locks with a square corner. This delivers a cost-effective fitting solution for locksmiths on-site who can easily chisel out a square shape within the door.

The new products within the AR800 series include the AR810 euro profile cylinder sashlock case, AR811 latch case, AR813 bathroom lock and AR814 euro profile cylinder nightlatch case all with adjustable strike plates. To complete the functions, there is the euro profile cylinder AR812 deadlock case supplied with a standard strike plate.

They all feature a 60mm backset and 8mm lock follower where applicable and are pierced for furniture and/or escutcheons at 38mm. The range is supplied with the timeless satin stainless steel finish to forends and strike plates, making it suitable for use in a wide range of commercial applications, including offices, education, healthcare, and many more.

Forza Doors begins Production at New Manufacturing Facility

Secured by Design member company Forza Doors Ltd, the market-leading manufacturer of high-quality commercial and residential doors and timber products, has announced a significant expansion with the addition of a new state-of-the-art door manufacturing facility.

The new 16,000-square-foot factory, located on the Star Road Industrial Estate in Partridge Green, West Sussex, represents a £3 million investment by Forza Doors and is expected to create 40 new jobs in the area. This expansion will increase Forza's production capacity by 60%, allowing the company to meet growing demand for its premium door products while maintaining its market-leading turnaround times.

Caterham and the Royal Air Force create one-off tribute to the esteemed Puma HC2 helicopter

The Caterham Seven 360R has been created to raise money for injured servicemen and women and was on display for the first time at last weekend’s Formula 1 British Grand Prix.

To be auctioned off through Collecting Cars, it’s hoped the joint project between the Royal Air Force, Caterham, Mission Motorsport and Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund will raise more than £100,000.

This project between Caterham and the RAF is in support of the Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) division, allowing those part of the program external opportunities to grow their skills.

Operated by Joint Aviation Command (JAC) at RAF Benson, XW232 entered service in 1972 and operated around the world.

Upon reaching the end of its service life recently, teams at Benson and Caterham decided to create a tribute to the Puma and its servicemen and women.

Based on a Seven 360R, the external finish remains as it was when taken from the aircraft, while the remaining panels have been painted in matching ‘NATO Green’.

The chassis also mirrors the aircraft beneath the surface, finished in ‘Desert Sand’.

Aluminium skin from the aircraft’s tail boom and doors have been used as panels for the Seven’s exterior as well as the internal rear bulkhead, where the door jettison handle remains in place.

Details from the Puma are carried through to the interior. The aircraft’s quilted soundproofing lines the door panels and tunnel top and forms padding for the carbon fibre seats.

The helicopter’s evacuation instructions have been preserved and stitched into the lining.

A unique satin black dashboard features to match the Puma’s military-grade switchgear, replacing the regular dash switches.

The 360R also features a helicopter-style three-stage ignition sequence for added theatre to start-up, while the aircraft’s navigation clock forms the centrepiece of the dash.

Underneath the bonnet, the ammunition box now contains the car’s battery.

Assembly of the car was a joint effort between Caterham and serving personnel from RAF Benson.

The names of all those involved in this project are featured on the bonnet.

Puma HC2 medium support helicopters are used for a variety of combat roles including tactical movement of troops and weapons, as well as the extraction of casualties on the frontline.

They are also employed for humanitarian and disaster relief operations.

Corporal McCreadie said:

“It has been an honour to be a part of the Caterham project.
“As an Aircraft Technician (mechanical), I volunteered my time to remove the decommissioned materials from the Puma for the Caterham RAF Seven 360.
“To see the transformation of the materials has been fascinating.
“Through the course of the project, I had the opportunity to refine my skills and learn some new engineering techniques.
“I am proud to have been a part of the team that made this car and to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics within the RAF.”

Bob Laishley, CEO of Caterham, said:

“When the RAF approached us about this project we jumped at the chance to be involved.
“Firstly, because it was an interesting build process for us as it’s the first time in our history that a Seven has been made from recycled helicopter parts.

“It was a true team effort as well, with engineers from the RAF supporting us throughout the build.
“But, more importantly, it’s great to know that any proceeds from the auction will go to incredibly important causes.”

Squadron Leader Morley said:

“Royal Air Force Benson Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) team will be attending multiple events throughout the summer, promoting STEM in both the military and industry.
“Along with support from RAF Engineering & Cyber Recruitment the team have an amazing opportunity to host and present this one-off Caterham car made with former RAF Puma components.
“The car has been assembled by RAF personnel with the help of Caterham and highlights the amazing skills of the engineering teams that both maintain the RAF Puma’s and that work in industry.
“It’s our opportunity to celebrate the history of the RAF Puma Force while showcasing the opportunities that are available within the RAF and wider STEM community.”

Bidding for the car opens on 15 August and ends on 12 September through Collecting Cars.
The car is scheduled to be displayed at several events throughout the Summer.

DHF launches new video for Industrial Door Group Members

Door & Hardware Federation (DHF) has launched a new animated video for Industrial Door Group Members named, ‘What to expect from your Industrial Door installation’.

The video, which is just under two minutes long, provides vital information on ensuring that industrial doors are safe, compliant, and fitted by trained engineers. It is the second video in the animated series, and DHF will shortly launch a video for automated gates and traffic barriers, too.

Taking the viewer through the process of an industrial door installation, the video highlights ‘who is responsible for what’, clarifying the responsibilities of the manufacturer, i.e., discussing conformity marking, operation and maintenance manuals, declaration of conformity and declaration of performance, and in addition the responsibilities of the installer, as well as recommending a qualified DHF member for installation.

The video also clarifies the responsibility of the industrial door owner or manager. Owners and managers are responsible for ensuring they have the correct documentation and that their doors are kept safe and compliant; a regular maintenance programme should be in place and adhered to.

“DHF encourages members to share the video on their websites, social media platforms and with potential and existing customers,” says DHF’s Commercial Director, Patricia Sowsbery-Stevens.

“It provides a guide for owners, managers, installers and consumers regarding responsibility, risk assessment, and ensuring your industrial door is safe and compliant.”

Charter Global Supply Lintel Shutters at Bobby Moore Sports Hub, Parsloes Park

Replacing an old sports pavilion, the new, state-of-the-art sports hub at Parsloes Park is a magnificent upgrade for the sporting community at Dagenham.

Named after the borough’s very own football legend, Bobby Moore, the £12.8m sports facility boasts sixteen grass sports pitches, two 3G pitches and a third National League System stadia pitch with spectator seating.

Pitches are named after Sir Trevor Brooking, Paul Ince and Chloe Kelly.

The bright and open sports hub includes gym facilities, a fitness studio and a café alongside a social space and meeting rooms for the local community to use.

When specifying this impressive building, where large areas of the café and community spaces have vast spans of glass windows from floor to ceiling, the Police Crime Impact Statement stipulated a requirement for security shutters of LPS 1175 SR3 standard to protect the building when closed.

Being central to a large park, anyone challenging the security would have more time before the alarm was raised, so the higher security rating, SR3, gives a longer protection time, even if there is a deliberate forced entry using a range of attack tools.

After researching the market, architects Bradshaw Gass & Hope were advised to use specialist security shutter manufacturers, Charter Global, who are experts in delivering bespoke solutions when dealing with challenging projects.

Their Integr8 SR3 lintel shutter was ideal for this project as it is engineered to integrate within the fabric of the building for a flush finish while giving excellent security protection.

A total of 24 shutters were supplied in varying sizes and a RAL colour specific to the building.

The architects were keen to complement the stunningly modern design, so bespoke shutters concealed in the lintels over windows and doors ensured a discreet, contemporary finish.

By being involved in the early stages of the project, Charter Global was able to supply and install the lintels so that unsightly fittings or hood boxes didn’t compromise the 9m span of glazing around the café and community area.

All the shutters can be independently operated, so some parts of the building can be ‘blacked’ out for events if required.

The Integr8 Structural SR3 lintel Shutter is a high-performance shutter, independently tested by the Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) and certified to LPS 1175, Issue 7, SR3.

Secured by Design also recognises this shutter system as a police-preferred specification.

Manufactured from extruded aluminium, the Integr8 Structural SR3 Shutter is available with a wide range of finishes and RAL colours to suit any building style and architecture.
