A team of five from Hörmann UK Ltd ran for the Stroke Association in the 2014 Bupa Great North Run, raising £3,171.45 in donations to date.

Born out of a suggestion made at the company's Christmas party, the half marathon, which took place on Sunday 7th September, represented a significant challenge for the team's four non-runners.

Service engineer Matt Irons is the only regular runner in the group who completed the race in 1 hour 55 minutes. Matt was joined by managing director, David Newcombe, estimating manager Amy Fisher, estimating administrator Rachael Hederington and marketing assistant Tara White.

The team's decision to raise funds for the Stroke Association was made for a number of reasons. Most significantly, they have seen first hand the impact of strokes on close family members and the excellent care that they have received. Also by running for the charity, they hoped to raise awareness that recognising, and reacting quickly to, the symptoms of a stroke can save lives and help sufferers make a much better recovery.

Tara White is thrilled they managed to raise such a phenomenal amount at this high profile event:
“All five of us completed the run in under three and a half hours and couldn’t be prouder! Thank you to everyone who gave us such great support on the day, and those who have donated so generously.”
The Great North Run from Newcastle City centre to the East coast town of South Shields is established as one of the world's greatest half marathons with many elite athletes competing. However, the vast majority of the 57,000 entrants ran to raise funds for their chosen charities.

The team from Hörmann set an initial fund raising target of £2000 via Just Giving, but would appreciate any further donations as the page will remain open until 7th December: www.justgiving.com/hormannuk
