ADSA is a not-for-profit organisation and this allows it to reinvest all its income into member services, training programmes, technical research and policy development. Every decision is made with the long-term needs of the sector in mind.
This enable it to deliver real impact – spearheading the development of competency frameworks, launching industry-first training aligned to new standards and legislation and the development of a pioneering apprenticeship for workforce sustainability.
To date, it has dedicated more than 500 hours in creating sector-specific competency frameworks as a key member of the Joint Competency Initiative, seen 70 apprentices undertake the apprenticeship for powered pedestrian door technicians and undertaken a root and branch redevelopment of its digital Academy to support continuous professional development for member employees.
As it looks back on the achievements of 40 years, ADSA has pledged to continue to lead from the front - delivering its mission to achieve competence, compliance and consistency across the industry.
“What sets a leading trade body apart is action, not posturing. We’ve spent four decades proactively raising the bar for skills, safety and standards because the industry deserves nothing less,” said Ken Price, Managing Director of ADSA.
With approximately 600 members, ADSA is the largest association for the automatic door industry, with a cost-effective tiered membership fee structure. Membership brings an extended range of high-value benefits that support businesses technically, professionally and commercially. These include:
- Access to training and assessments for staff worth over £4,000 annually including use of the ADSA Academy
- Industry-specific courses and technical bulletins with updates on regulations, product safety and compliance
- Member communications including Opening Doors Magazine, email newsletters and Tech Talk podcast.
- Opportunities to participate in development forums and industry networking events
- Inclusion in its Find a Member web directory.
Its early response to the introduction of EN 17352 saw it become the first in the sector to launch bespoke training in 2023, now followed by a renewal accreditation pathway.
ADSA’s 40th anniversary has provided not only a chance to celebrate all that it has achieved but also the opportunity to review, evaluate and plan for the future. This includes modifications to the PPD technician apprenticeship, the introduction of short duration courses to support entry-level and experienced technicians.
“ADSA is always evolving and adapting to meet to needs of the industry, the expectations of its customers and its future requirements. We don’t just represent the sector - we lead it, shape it, and raise its standards every day,” added Ken.
