Garador to Exhibit at The National Homebuilding & Renovating Show

Once again, Britain’s leading garage door manufacturer, Garador, will be playing a prominent role in the National Homebuilding and Renovating Show at the NEC Birmingham in March.

Garador is at the forefront of modern garage door design and engineering, and their large 120m sq stand will showcase the latest garage door and entrance door designs, including innovations in smart technology and automation.

Garador’s friendly team of door experts will be on hand to discuss customer projects and assist in finding the right solution for their needs.

They will also be demonstrating some of the newest garage doors, including the innovative new DuraBelt system for GaraRoll roller doors, which was developed to reduce scratches across the surface of the door curtain and enhance product performance over the lifetime of the door.

Garador will also be highlighting their thermally efficient sectional garage doors along with a selection of matching FrontGuard entrance doors, both of which are highly popular with homeowners as they have the potential to reduce heat loss and lower energy bills.

Garador’s Managing Director, Jon Watson said:
“We have invested heavily in research and development in recent years and will have a fantastic range of products on display at this year’s Homebuilding and Renovating Show”

Garador’s team of experts will be available on each day of the show to talk through every aspect, from choices of colours and materials right through to technical specifications and fitting requirements.

Jon adds:
“We are delighted to be attending again this year and welcome the opportunity to give advice to homeowners looking for the best garage door solution for their build.”

The National Homebuilding and Renovating Show is taking place at Birmingham’s NEC between March 23rd and 26th 2023. Visit Garador on stand B147.

Optimise control with the New Smartlife Remote Wifi Controller from Ellard

Operate your garage door from any location worldwide at the push of a button. By using the ‘Smart life Network’ Wifi-garage door controller, you can now turn your garage into a smart product, by simply connecting the app to the existing door motor or controller.

The ‘Smart life Network’ controller, allows you to take control and feel at ease, leaving no doubt about the open or closed state of the door; by checking the app on your phone to see the visible door status or by receiving notifications when the status changes.

You can also have the ability and option to share the smart remote with others by sending an invite through your phone, however, you remain the administrator and can move them at any time, leaving the control still in your hands.

To connect the controller, all that is needed is to connect the pair of included cables and connect to the garage door. From there you will be able to control and monitor the door, which will be fully accessible from your smart device or a smart home hub.

Keep up to Date: - Receive Alarm Notifications

The ‘Smart life Network’ controller will provide instant real-time notifications to your smart device. With the help of the controller, you can quickly and easily check if the door is open or closed and, receive notifications if the door operates or is left open for a set period.

Whilst you do have the option to deactivate notifications, they do offer a heightened form of security, especially when away from your home.

Share Your Device with Others

By sharing your device with others you are trusting them to operate your garage door permanently or for a set amount of days. All that is needed to share your device, is to send a message from the application to the intended user.

If they have not done so already, they will have to download the ‘SmartLife APP’, once downloaded they will have the access needed to control your garage door.

Operate from Anywhere in the World

When your smart device is connected to Wi-Fi or 4G, you will be able open, close and view the status of your garage. Regardless of where you are, you can control your door status from any location worldwide.

How Does it Work?

Smart Life Network Wi-Fi controller is a simple to use App based system that allows control of your garage door from your smart device and provides status updates for your garage door.

The system requires a 2-wire connection into the existing control panel by using the provided 5metre cable. A plug-in low-voltage power adapter is also provided, making the system safe to install and use.

A Wi-Fi or 4G signal is necessary to operate your smart device as a controller, as the controller runs through the home Wi-fi connection, a good signal inside your garage would be required.

Your Wi-Fi controller receives commands from your smart device, triggering open and close signals or can test the position of the door. A battery-powered sensor and magnet located at the bottom of the door are used to determine the door position.

Any attempt to break in by raising the door generates a notification to your phone, another feature that will heighten your security.

Safety First: New driving course launched to help tackle deaths on UK roads

  • Leading driving experience provider aims to make UK roads safer in 2023 with the launch of a new safer driving course

  • Comparative data from European Traffic Safety Council shows the UK as fifth worst performing country in Europe in terms of reducing road deaths since 2011*

  • DrivingExperience.com calls upon UK government to do more to help reduce deaths on UK's roads

The country's leading driving experience provider is looking to combat stalled reductions in road deaths on the UK's roads over the last decade through two new targeted packages which aim to improve drivers' road skills.

DrivingExperience.com has today officially launched its Safer Driving Course, hosted at Elvington Airfield in Yorkshire. The course's goals are to help increase the standard of driving throughout the country and do all it can to help drive down deaths on the UK's roads.

The decision to offer more to Britain's motorists comes amidst recent data released by the European Transport Safety Council which revealed the UK to be Europe's fifth worst-performing country in reducing deaths on the road since 2011*.

Despite generally being considered as having the safest roads in the world, over the course of the last decade, the UK only managed to decrease its road deaths by 17.9 per cent, with Hungary, Bulgaria, The Netherlands and Romania the only countries to perform worse.

This is in stark contrast to Europe's top-performing country, Norway, which reduced their road-related deaths by 52.4 per cent during the same period.

Dan Jones, Operations Manager at DrivingExperience.com, said:
"We are calling upon the UK government to keep their eye on the road and make sure our streets continue to be seen as the safest to drive on."

"It is our aim to help provide all drivers in the UK with the extra training they need to help them be better prepared for the various testing conditions they will have to face on the roads."

The latest product offered by DrivingExperience.com provides opportunities for drivers of all experience and age levels to become more confident when tackling extreme road conditions such as snow and ice, as well as wet and muddy roads, all while under the supervision of experienced instructors in a controlled environment.

Jones continued
"If you look at Norway, they include an extreme conditions exercise as part of their compulsory driving lesson provision for all new drivers."
"With the increasing amount of extreme weather we currently battle, we could attribute initiatives like those enforced in Norway to helping drive down deaths on the roads."
"This is why we feel offering the UK public with explicit opportunities to become better drivers will continue to be at the core of what we are going to be focusing on throughout the year."

As well as the safer driving course, DrivingExperience.com has also re-launched its Skid Control package at North Weald Airfield in Essex, which provides drivers with training to help them when they find themselves skidding out of control.

To find out more about the safer driving course, as well as the skid control package, visit DrivingExperience.com and book in your training today.

Rowan Atkinson’s 1993 Lancia HF Integrale Evo II, is for sale with Silverstone Auctions

This superb example of the 'Evoluzione’ II in a very rare colour with low mileage is the personal car of actor, comedian, collector and race driver Rowan Atkinson of Black Adder and Mr Bean fame.

It is estimated to sell for £65,000 - £75,000 with Silverstone Auctions on February 25th at the Race Retro Show, Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire.

The car had covered just over 87,000km when, back in May 2021, it was purchased by well-known comedian, actor and petrol head, Rowan Atkinson CBE.

He has enjoyed many happy hours in the car, although the total mileage still remains below 90,000km, and the history file confirms recent money well spent on keeping the little Lancia in such fabulous condition.

First seen at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1979, the Lancia Delta Integrale is best known for its domination of the World Rally Championship in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Constantly being developed, the first Evoluzione cars were built at the end of 1991 and carried on through 1992 and these Evo models were to be the final homologation cars built for the Lancia Rally Team competing under the Martini Racing banner.

Arriving in June 1993, a further development of the HF Integrale naturally became known as the Evo II and featured an updated version of the 2-litre, 16-valve turbo engine producing a little more power, 215bhp. The Evo II HF Integrale is now considered by many as the ‘one to have’ and this particular car enjoys an exceptional and appealing pedigree.

Originally supplied to Japan, this car was then selected and imported back to the UK in 2011 with all duties paid. It had been chosen for its rare colour of Lord Blue which is extremely smart.

Atkinson has enjoyed many happy hours in the car, and it is supplied with a comprehensive history file, including a comprehensive Japanese service history, its V5C and a current MOT. This car is ready to be enjoyed and driven as it should be.

The market for Integrales of all types continues to grow and this is a superb example. Silverstone Auctions are proud to be offering this car in the forthcoming Race Retro Sale on Saturday 25th February at Stoneleigh Park.

More information about this vehicle and the others consigned for Silverstone Auctions Sale at the Race Retro Show on the 25th February at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire, can be found on their website www.silverstoneauctions.com

Here you can also find details of how to get a free valuation for your car, along with an online form to submit your vehicle for sale or to register to bid.

How to Build a Five-star Google Business Profile for your Trade Business

With the cost-of-living crisis meaning homeowners are spending less on home improvements, the working landscape is more competitive than ever for UK tradespeople.

To stand out from the crowd, trade companies can consider investing more time into marketing, and one effective method of boosting your visibility is to create or improve your Google Business Profile.

A Google Business Profile is a free, fast, and effective way to help your business appear in Google search results and on Google Maps. Typically, they appear when someone searches with local intent (e.g. ‘builders near me’ or ‘electricians in East London’). It displays your business name, a link to your website, your phone number, and your reviews.

To help tradespeople improve their profiles, IronmongeryDirect, the UK’s largest supplier of specialist ironmongery, has partnered with My Local Toolbox to analyse thousands of Google Business reviews and reveal exactly what it takes to improve your online presence.

Increasing your number of reviews

There are two things you need to focus on to collect reviews:
Go above and beyond in your day-to-day work - do a good job and make your customers happy.
Ask customers for a review. If you’ve done a good job, you’ll find most people are very forthcoming in providing a positive review.

If you’re just starting with your Google Business Profile, ask old customers to leave a review. This can help to accelerate the number of reviews you have in the early stages, which helps to build trust with Google and potential customers.

According to a recent analysis of 10,000 reviews by My Local Toolbox, the traits customers talk about most in reviews are professionalism (42%), quality of work (34%), punctuality (13%), tidiness (7%) and perceived value (4%).

How to climb the rankings

1. Relevance

Make sure your profile closely reflects what you offer, as Google is all about relevance. If you’ve set your profile up properly (and in detail), you should be sending all the signals Google needs to understand what you offer and which searches to show your profile for.

2. Distance

Be specific about the areas you serve in your profile, so that you appear in the correct local searches.

3. Reviews and ratings

You will appear higher in the rankings if you have a large quantity of positive reviews, so be proactive in asking customers and give them a polite nudge if they don’t leave a review the first time you ask.

4. Engage with customers

Reply to customers when they leave a review, even if it’s just to say thank you. Acknowledge shortcomings and criticism in a professional and courteous manner. Remember your future customers may read the comments, so it’s important to show yourself in a good light.

Building a great review profile on any platform takes time. Persistence and consistency are key to building a high number of reviews, and climbing the rankings. If you stick with it, you should have a steady stream of enquiries coming through, which will bring lots of benefits to your company.

Office Refurb for Strand Hardware

Strand Hardware has given its company headquarters a radical make over – improving its energy efficiency, work space and creating a welcoming new hi-tech reception.

It has used products from many of its suppliers and customers for the project including new windows, fire doors, electricals, plumbing, furniture, decoration, carpeting and signage, along with some of its own ironmongery products.

The refurb in the second change project to take place at Strand Hardware in recent months and follows a review and upgrade of its warehousing processes undertaken with WMG (Warwick Manufacturing Group).

It has resulted in a more modern, open plan work space for its expanding team – encouraging greater team synergy and literally breaking down walls to silo working which had been enforced by the old layout.

Strand has occupied the premises on the Premier Business Park, in Walsall, since the company was founded more than 30 years ago and a little modernisation has been beneficial.

Managing Director Steve Marshall said:
“Although Strand’s offices were perfectly functional, they were looking a little dated and our work with WMG gave us the impetus to extend our programme of improvements.
“Not only will it enhance working conditions for the Strand Hardware team but also convey a better image of who we are and what we are about to visiting business associates.

“Efficiency has underpinned all our recent changes. This includes energy efficiency and eco-saving measures such as the introduction of natural ventilation, insulation and energy-saving devices”.

Shared facilities including board room, kitchen and bathrooms have been included in the make-over and equipment upgraded. Staff have also benefitted from ergonomically designed furniture and layout.
Its reception has been reconfigured to make it lighter and more airy.

It also features digital displays to welcome visitors and showcase Strand’s extensive product range.

A key driver in the process has been digitisation – reducing paper-based processes and transferring its traditional filing system to a cloud based environment.

The company is planning an open day for company contacts and has invited Mayor of Walsall to oversee a rededication ceremony.

Strand Hardware Ltd is a family-run business with a wealth of experience in architectural ironmongery. Based in Walsall, West Midlands, the company was established in 1991, by the late Jonathan Franks. His daughter, Catherine, is now Company Chair.

It supplies high-quality window and door hardware, combining locally manufactured products with sole UK distribution for top European brands including Athmer and Antipanic.

Strand Hardware’s reputation has been built on delivering first-class customer service and technical support by its experienced industry professionals.

Mul-T-Lock Provides OnPoint Electrics’ Van Security

OnPoint Electrics has fitted Mul-T-Lock’s innovative vehicle security solution, MVP2000 to its company van, following a break in that resulted in a significant loss of tools.

Says Jon Dawson of On Point Electrics:
“The crime was committed in less than 20 seconds, with my van in full view of obvious CCTV systems, in broad daylight, in front of a busy leisure centre. None of these elements seemed to act as a deterrent.
“The loss of tools for myself and my Apprentice was significant and meant a huge amount of time and resource had to be invested in insurance claims, with the potential loss of work. We had to rely on friends and work colleagues to ensure we could continue to meet customer requirements, whilst we replaced all the tools that were stolen.”

Jon firmly believes that if Mul-T-Lock’s MVP2000 had been fitted earlier, it would have been enough to detract the criminal from attempting to access the van. Not only from a visual perspective but also due to its specialist all in one design, with its unique angled lock body and no hanging parts.

Claire Blakemore, Mul-T-Lock UK Managing Director added:
“Unfortunately, this is not a unique case, with the increase in van crime well documented. It can take just seconds and often, insurance claims are declined. With living costs rising for everyone, protecting vulnerable tradespeople from losing their means of income is more important than ever before.
“Mul-T-Lock’s MVP2000 is a real solution, that is quick to install and can be fitted to new vehicles or as a retrofit to almost all van types in the UK. Available to bolt onto the surface of any van side or rear door, as well as being a visual deterrent, the clever inter-locking design of the two body parts becoming one, adds an additional layer of protection from manipulation via forced separation. It is easy to use, supplied with secure fixings and offered with built-in security and peace of mind for today’s van owners.”
