Secured by Design at the 2023 FIT Show

Secured by Design (SBD), the national police crime prevention initiative, was amongst the hundreds of exhibitors at the prestigious and well attended FIT Show last week, with a constant stream of visitors to the stand on all three days of the show.

SBD Technical Manager Alfie Hosker also joined two other experts in the field - Howard Trotter & Mark Alton - for a panel seminar on fire legislation at the FIT Show.

Alfie said: “This was a great show for us to promote our work and to explain about SBD membership and the benefits of our Police Preferred Specification product accreditation scheme and the essential part industry, test & certification and other associated stakeholders play in creating products and services that are not only secure, but also help to keep people safe in the event of an emergency.
“The FIT Show also enabled us to have some great conversations, afforded us superb networking opportunities and was also an ideal opportunity for us to link in with all of our SBD members who were exhibiting and ensure that we are up-to-date regarding their products, as well as support them with product launches.
“Fire doorset legislation has changed significantly in recent years and at all points through the lifecycle of a fire doorset. The seminar was an excellent opportunity to discuss the requirements for a life cycle of compliance, with the first stage (Design & Test) also the reference point to ensure the original design intent is preserved and the intended performance met and maintained to reduce and remove potential elements of confusion or interpretation.
“We were extremely busy throughout, with a large amount of interest and enquiries at the stand over all three days of the show”.
Distinction Doors Associate Director of Sales, Elliott Dawson & SBD's Alfie Hosker

SBD’s pioneering work

As regular exhibitors and visitors at the FIT show know, SBD has been involved in pioneering work with national and local government, and a wide range of organisations to improve the physical security of buildings, particularly in the residential marketplace, over the last 30 years.

This work has involved tackling the wide variations in the quality of products installed during the housing boom of the 1960s, 70s and 80s when security was barely considered and windows could be lifted out almost as easily as they were installed.

To combat the rise in burglary that resulted, SBD set about looking at the quality of the products being sold against those originally tested. SBD instigated the formation of the UK Test House Studies Group and Certification Bodies Group for doorsets, windows and lock products and has chaired these groups for over 20 years with the sole aim being to ensure there is parity between test and certification bodies. Better quality means these products last longer too, making them more cost effective and leading to greater sustainability in crime prevention.

Today, door and window manufacturers must be certified by a United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) certification body before becoming an SBD member company and being considered for SBD’s coveted Police Preferred Specification.

SBD continually monitor national crime trends to keep pace with changing patterns of criminal behaviour and new technology, ensuring that standards are updated to reflect these changes.

The Police Preferred Specification

Secured by Design (SBD) operates an accreditation scheme on behalf of the UK Police Service for products or services that have met recognised security standards. These products or services – which must be capable of deterring or preventing crime - are known as being of a ‘Police Preferred Specification’.

There are many hundreds of companies that produce over seven thousand individual attack-resistant crime prevention products in more than thirty different categories that have met the exacting Police Preferred Specification. This includes doors, windows, locks and hardware, perimeter security products and many others.

SBD is the only way for companies to obtain police recognition for security-related products in the UK. Find out more about SBD here.

SBD Secure Connected Device accreditation

The SBD Secure Connected Device accreditation for IoT-connected devices is available to companies with IoT products to help them highlight their products as having achieved the necessary IoT standards and certification to be compliant with the Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure Act (PSTI Act), which has recently been enacted into law. Businesses will need to be compliant with PSTI Act from the 29th of April 2024.

The PSTI Act applies to all consumer IoT products, including connected safety-relevant products such as door locks, connected home automation & alarm systems and smart home assistants.

Consumer connectable products, such as those listed above offer huge benefits for people and businesses to live better connected lives with a lower carbon footprint. However, the adoption of cyber security requirements within these products is poor, and while only 1 in 5 manufacturers embed basic security requirements in consumer-connectable products, consumers overwhelmingly assume these products are secure.

Whilst connectable consumer products have previously had to comply with existing regulations to ensure that they will not directly cause physical harm from issues such as overheating, environmental damage or electrical interference, they have not been regulated to protect consumers from cyber harm such as loss of privacy and personal data.

The PSTI Act requires manufacturers, importers and distributors to ensure that minimum security requirements are met in relation to consumer-connectable products that are available to consumers and provides a robust regulatory framework that can adapt and remain effective in the face of rapid technological advancement, the evolving techniques employed by malicious actors, and the broader international regulatory landscape.

The SBD Secure Connected Device accreditation scheme, developed in consultation with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS), helps companies to get their products appropriately assessed against all 13 provisions of the ETSI EN 303 645 standard, a requirement that goes beyond the Government’s legislation so that companies can not only demonstrate their compliance with the legislation but protects them, their products and customers.

The SBD Secure Connected Device IoT Assessment identifies the level of risk associated with an IoT device and its ecosystem, providing recommendations on the appropriate certification routes with one of the SBD-approved certification bodies. Once third-party testing and independent certification for a product have been achieved, the company can apply to become an SBD member, with the product receiving the SBD’s Secure Connected Device accreditation, a unique and recognisable accreditation that will highlight products as having achieved the relevant IoT standards and certification.

A number of SBD member companies have had their IoT-connected products – which cover a range of categories including Smart Home Security and Locks & Hardware - achieve SBD’s Secure Connected Device accreditation already. You can find out more about these companies and products here.

ADSA Helps Spearhead Competence Initiative

The Automatic Door Suppliers Association (ADSA) is taking part in a ground-breaking initiative to increase levels of competence and confidence in the UK building envelope sector.

The Joint Competence Initiative (JCI) has been established in response to the Building Safety Act - considered the most significant change to health and safety legislation affecting the construction industry in the past 40 years.

The JCI is an “association of associations” – providing guidance and support to move forward industry standards and raise the bar higher.

ADSA was invited to represent the doors sector as part of the JCI steering group along with other trade associations, including Council for Aluminium in Building (CAB), Glass & Glazing Federation (GGF), the Centre for Window and Cladding Technology (CWCT) and Society of Façade Engineers (SFE).

They are joined by representatives of leading contractors, sub-contractors, manufacturers and suppliers and education providers such GQA Qualifications Ltd.

Ken Price, ADSA’s managing director, said:

“It was an honour to be involved in an initiative which would “radically reform and improve quality and standards throughout the industry.”

“It has brought together leading associations which have responsibilities in establishing and maintaining competence levels within their own sectors. By working together, we have been able to define what competence looks like, how we measure and achieve it against specific roles and requirements.

“We have shared the work which we have undertaken individually and helped contribute to a bigger picture of competence.

“Moving forward, we have pledged to drive through change against a recognised set of standards that relate to different parts of the industry: subcontractors, specifiers, manufacturers, etc, and identify the kind of training and continuous professional development that is required to prove competence.”

JCI was initially formed of technical and procurement leads from BAM, ISG, Kier, Laing O’Rourke, Lendlease, Mace, Morgan Sindall, Multiplex, Sir Robert McAlpine, John Sisk, Skanska and Wates Group.

Its vision has been to establish, “proportionate and practical requirements relating to both organisational and individual competence of those working in the glazing, cladding and roofing sectors”.

This has led to the publication of a white paper, ‘Achieving Competence in the Building Envelope Sector’ which is available for download from ADSA’s website: www.adsa.org.uk

Neville Grunwald JCI chair, said:

“JCI will consult with Principal Contractors and Developers to adopt the white paper as the preferred measure of subcontractor competence as part of the supply chain process.

“In order to maintain the currency of these measures, the volunteers and associations of the JCI will continue to interact with Government bodies and other stakeholders to monitor changes in laws and regulations surrounding the issue of competence in the Built Environment and lobby them to ensure those laws and regulations are proportionate and applied in a practicable manner.”

Rowland Door Services 40th Anniversary – 2023

2023 marks Rowland Door Services' 40th anniversary of trading, a milestone that the company is really proud to celebrate.

From humble beginnings with one man in a van to achieving 40 years of providing outstanding and unrivalled service to a multitude of contracts across an array of different industries and sectors.

Managing Director and Owner Glenn Rowland shares his thoughts on this amazing achievement:

“In the beginning God created man, then he created RDS.

One thing was for certain this industry was in my blood, my father had successfully managed Bolton Gate Company for many years, and during that time many family members had successfully created their own prospects doing the same; some of them right through to retirement which proves that once you’re in the chances are you’re in for good, we didn’t see this at the time but it is something I’m sure you all feel at some point.

For me my role model was my father, I watched him for many years dedicate 100% of his life to ‘the empire’ even well beyond his retirement age.

His passion was his work, even at his ripe old age he would want to come to work with me just to keep his hand in and to keep himself moving but sadly age got the better of him this was not always possible but always enquired about the business which spurred me on even more.

My mother was my grounding person, she ensured that my feet stayed firmly on the ground as long as she could, I was very lucky to have had these people in my life, and I still believe their watchful eyes are still watching over me every step of the way.

After leaving school and with the added benefit of my family working in this industry with a company that was known as ‘the empire’ (Bolton Gate Co) my dad suggested that I at least did an apprenticeship which I decided to start, I proceeded to work every day with only one thing in my sights and that was to start my own business, I started my apprenticeship at 16 and finished at 21.

In 1983 I decided that this was the year, I hated working for Bolton Gate which had now been taken over by Tarmac so decided that at some point the time had come, this came much sooner than expected and with the help of my cousin who gave me £250 to paint their garage and a Datsun van I was up and running, things were tough, I remember my first Lloyds bank manager agreeing a £200 overdraft with a guarantee, which was my cousin once more.

Once I had started to gather speed and get some regular work, I knew I would never be able to look back, only forward. RDS grew quickly, we then became a limited company and things really started to accelerate and now I am writing about achieving 40 successful years of trading.

There are far too many names to mention but I do honestly thank you all truly for your loyalty and support shown to RDS throughout our 40 years of trading.

We have some great suppliers & trade partners, who have been a constant source of support as we have grown and have also been there when times were tough, I appreciate everything anyone and everyone has done for RDS and me personally.

I must now move on to my employees, as with all businesses people come and go but certain members of our current staff with a few in particular have been around through thick and thin and remained loyal employees, in an industry that let’s be honest loyalty and commitment can often be brought into question.

A special thank you to all of the members of staff, I thank you from the bottom of my heart and long will you remain part of the RDS family & team, this thank you also goes to every single person who continues to play our part in RDS's successes and also to people who have moved on, we are what we are today all because of our people and what they have put in.

My intention was always to ensure the family name would continue and that it will, I am fortunate enough to have a great team heading up RDS and I know it’s in very safe hands here’s to the next 40 years.

One of the hardest things for me is slowly letting go of the day-to-day activities, I loved being out there chatting with clients, taking orders, giving advice and just being there to support the brands and to provide our unrivalled support which has been our strength for many years.

That personal hands-on attention to detail used to fire me up every day, guiding RDS through the murky waters certainly drained me of quality time with the family but the focus was always a priority to success.

For me, the business has drawn together a family, each and every one in the business should feel the warmth of the whole team from top to bottom.

Something which I thank you all for your continued loyalty, dedication and support to achieve this to the level RDS now stands, you should all be proud of your accomplishments and long may this continue”

To mark this occasion, we will be participating in several fundraising events throughout 2023 in a bid to raise vital funds and awareness for a local charity “The B30 Foodbank”.

A selection of our staff trained for the Birmingham Half Marathon that they participated in earlier this month (May) and we also intend to undertake the 3 peaks challenge later in the year. We will also be running many other events including a summer charity golf day.

We are currently looking for donations for our chosen charity, all donations can be made through our dedicated Just giving page, use the QR code for more information on our Just Giving page.

RAC Rally winning ‘Jaguar’ to be sold at auction

Among the most beautiful sports cars of the 1930s, the Jaguar SS100 was primarily marketed for competition usage.

However, few examples ran in anger as much as the one which will be going under the hammer with H&H Classics at IWM Duxford  on the 14th June with an estimated value of £380,000 to £450,000.

The 1936 SS Jaguar 100, which has recently undergone a comprehensive 10-year restoration boasts a history straight out of a Boys’ Own magazine.

Roy Hitchman, sales manager, H&H Classics comments:

“The story of CVU 2, is totally captivating so we are honoured to be able to offer this wonderful car for sale at our upcoming auction,”

“From its very first competitive outing, through to its painstaking 10-year restoration, it really does have a fascinating history and one which is expected to appeal to collectors from around the world.”

Bought in December 1936 by privateer competitor Jack Harrop from his local dealership, Henlys of Manchester, he entered the road registered ‘CVU 2’ for its competitive debut on the 1937 Monte Carlo rally, electing to start from John O’Groats with 14 other crews.

Harrop secured thirtieth place overall in the event, which saw him rewarded with the Royal Scottish Automobile Trophy for being the highest place finisher to depart from the famous Highland Village.

Just two months later in its next outing, Jack piloted chassis 18050 to overall victory in the sixth RAC Rally, upsetting the applecart by beating the Works-entered SS100s into second and fourth places.

Following his remarkable win against stiff competition, Jack relocated to Switzerland and took the roadster with him. Serving as a RAF flight officer, Jack sadly never returned from patrol operations on 3rd November 1941.

However, after changing hands and seeing further competition usage, the Jaguar moved to America in 1958. Known to the influential SS Register for decades, the two-seater was careworn but remarkably original when acquired by its previous keeper, SS100 aficionado William Martin.

Mr Martin used his connections to track down and secure the car’s factory-fitted engine but otherwise made little progress with the project. Nevertheless, he insisted on interviewing the vendor to make sure that ‘CVU 2’ was going to be sympathetically refurbished.

Throughout the decade-long restoration, the current owner was supported and advised by some of the world’s leading SS Jaguar authorities. Furthermore, it was also inspected and verified by the late David Davenport of the globally respected SS Jaguar specialist, Davenport Cars.

Hitchman adds:

“Not only is this car one of the nicest SS100’s we have ever encountered, but it’s quite possibly the most historic too.
“Worthy of a place in a major collection or museum, it is also eligible for a host of prestigious events, ensuring that it can be admired and enjoyed for many years to come.”

The car, along with dozens of others, will be sold at the H&H Classics IWM Duxford auction in Cambridgeshire on 14th June, 2023.

Viewing of all the lots is available on the day before and the day of the sale itself. Bidders can bid in person, online, via telephone or by leaving a commission bid.

Distinction Doors Reveals Quality Control Mark

As part of its continuous improvement cycle, Distinction Doors has introduced a quality control mark for its doors.

This initiative underpins the company’s commitment to producing premium high-quality doors, consistently, and gives assurance to its customers.

Colour coded stamp

There are now three quality control areas at the Distinction Doors manufacturing facility in Barnsley. Each area is allocated a colour coded stamp dependent on their stage in the manufacturing operation – red for prep, green for paint, and black for glazing. Staff within these areas are tasked with conducting the final quality control inspection before the product is sent to the next process or despatch.

Unique ID

For greater reassurance, every quality inspector has a unique identification number. This number is for internal use only, but it enables Distinction to pinpoint exactly who conducted and passed each quality control inspection.

The quality control mark was developed following an extensive Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA). After which, process checks, test methods and minimum product standards were trained out to staff – including the new quality control exercise.

Associate Director of Quality for Distinction Doors, Jamie Kerrigan, says:
“Quality assurance can require a change of culture. Everyone takes pride in their work. This initiative encourages the operatives to take greater responsibility and care with the products they handle and produce.
“I am pleased that so far, the feedback has been extremely positive. Staff are happy with the accountability. So too are our customers. They are responding well to the improved process and like the visual reminder.”

Jamie leads all aspects of quality and continuous improvement. He and his team of quality and improvement specialists are responsible for implementing and managing continuous improvement, and proactive, reactive, and legislative quality assurance throughout the business.

If you wish to benefit from Distinction Doors’ high-quality products and services, please get in touch.

Garador helps Record Charity Event

Garador workers, including drivers Ben Kelley (left) and James Toner (right) all volunteered for this charity event.

Leading British garage door manufacturer Garador has once again played a pivotal role in the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance’s Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge.

Money is still coming in for the charity event which involved hundreds of cyclists undertaking a gruelling 55 mile ride across Somerset and Dorset, but this week it has been confirmed donations of over £45,000 have already been received.

Garador’s Managing Director Jon Watson said:

“This is a wonderful amount to help a vital local charity.

“We help every year by providing large capacity lorries to transport the cyclists and their bikes back to their starting point after the race, but this year saw more entries than ever before, and more donations too. The event can most certainly be called a wonderful success.”

The route started from Watchet in North Somerset and finished in West Bay on the Dorset Coast. Garador’s fleet of modern vehicles are equipped with special access systems so that for the event the bikes could easily be wheeled into the lorries and firmly secured for the journey.

Garador drivers gave their time for free and helped to ensure all the participants could easily get back to Watchet and find their cars after the ride.

Emma Jones, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance Fundraising Manager, praised the efforts of the cyclists and also everyone who helped. She said:
“Raising over £45,000 is simply incredible and we give a huge thank you to everyone who assisted”

Doors go Digital – New Product Data Template shows the way to Increased Specifier Confidence

Manufacturers and distributors of doorsets looking to build confidence in their products and move closer towards implementing the Golden Thread in construction can now supply consistent performance data to specifiers, contractors and building owners thanks to the development of a new industry-approved Product Data Template (PDT) for doorsets.

The development comes at a critical time, following the recent publication of the landmark Morrell Review into the regulation, testing and verification of the performance of construction products.

A Product Data Template is a common way of describing essential product characteristics which can be traced to a credible source such as a product standard. Once a manufacturer completes a PDT, the output is a Product Data Sheet which summarises the performance and other technical characteristics of a construction product. Structuring product information in this way makes the information more consistent, audience-specific, and identifies all the performance information needed to make appropriate choices about construction products.

The doorset PDT has been published by the shadow Fenestration Relevant Authority, a group of 14 organisations and trade associations that have come together to provide PDTs for the sector. The doorset PDT is the latest to be published in a list which already includes door hardware and powered pedestrian doors.

Douglas Masterson, technical manager at the Guild of Architectural Ironmongers (GAI) and chair of the shadow Fenestration Relevant Authority said:
“This new PDT is the first of its kind which has gone through a full consultation process. It incorporates many of the key functions of doors including fire, smoke, security and acoustics and presents this data in a consistent structured format. Industry will now have the ability to create a coordinated set of Product Data Sheets for any doorsets involved in their projects.”
Kevin Underwood, technical director of the British Woodworking Federation (BWF) and chair of the working group which created the PDT, said:
“In the production of the doorset PDT we tried to capture all characteristics that would be of interest to those responsible for, and using, construction product data in the built environment. The characteristics were taken from relevant national and European standards, regulatory requirements, such as building regulations, and industry recommendations, such as third-party product certification. This information is now ready to be presented in a machine-readable form.
“By involving interested parties during the initial development, through the shadow Fenestration Relevant Authority, and then subjecting the draft PDT to peer review, we have captured the information that a manufacturer or distributor would wish to communicate to their customers and would be required by end-users, such as designers and Accountable Persons.”
Hanna Clarke, digital and policy manager at the Construction Products Association (CPA) said:
“Structured product information is absolutely vital to a joined-up construction and built environment sector. But the key to arriving at this information is consensus, and the CPA is pleased to see that the trade associations in the fenestration area have come together to form a shadow Relevant Authority as per the processes identified in the LEXiCON project.
“It is these consensus processes and due diligence that will allow all those using the template and resulting product data sheets to trust that the information has been appropriately considered and will have longevity in application.”
This PDT is part of an ongoing programme of works in this field undertaken by the Fenestration Relevant Authority, with window hardware as the next project.

Kevin Jones, senior technical officer at the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) and co-chair of this working party, said:
“The GGF is pleased to be working as part of the shadow Fenestration Relevant Authority to create a set of product data templates for window hardware, to enable both our members and the wider industry to produce product data sheets in a consistent and structured manner. These templates will play a key part in helping to achieve the Golden Thread of Information.”
The following organisations are represented on the shadow Fenestration Relevant Authority: Guild of Architectural Ironmongers (GAI), British Woodworking Federation (BWF), Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF), British Standards Institution (BSI), Council for Aluminium in Building (CAB), Construction Products Association (CPA), Door and Hardware Federation (DHF), Association of Composite Door Manufacturers (ACDM), British Blind and Shutters Association (BBSA), National Association of Rooflight Manufacturers (NARM), British Plastics Federation (BPF), Automatic Door Suppliers Association (ADSA) Centre for Windows and Cladding Technology (CWCT) and Steel Window Association (SWA).

The doorset PDT was launched at the FIT Show (23-25 May 2023) and will beis available to download from www.gai.org.uk/pdt

Rotec has a wide range of Secure Defend doorsets which have achieved SBD’s Police Preferred Specification, available in single and double leaf variations, with security features outlined below.

Their security doors are intruder and explosive resistant, providing a safety-first solution on high security projects for numerous industry sectors and government organisation buildings such as police stations, HMP government facilities and premises where valuable assets are stored.

Rotec’s security doorset range is certified to Loss Prevention Standard LPS 1175 SR1, SR2, SR3 and SR4. Additionally, their Fire Safety Certification is in accordance with the latest UK standards: BS EN 14351-1 and BS EN1634.

The latest new security product innovation from Rotec is their communal entrance door which has been certified to both A and B testing, meeting the LPS 2081 standard, which sits between their PAS 24 and SR2 doorsets.

SR1
Rotec’s SR1 rated doors provide low to mid-level security and resistance to opportunist attempts at forced entry, using bodily physical force and a limited range of hand tools, including those that create noise.

BRE conducts extensive testing using items such as knives, rope, pliers and other manual tools to ensure that the door meets the specified time protection requirements of 1 minute of continual attack.

SR2
Rotec’s SR2 rated doors provide mid-level security and resistance to more sophisticated attempts of forced entry, where bodily physical force and trade hand tools and equipment are used, including those that create noise.

BRE conducts extensive testing using items such as kit claw hammers, drills, hacksaws, pliers, screwdrivers, and other manual tools to ensure that the SR2 door meets the specified time protection requirements of 3 minutes of continual attack.

SR3
Rotec’s SR3 rated doors have undergone further testing in order to achieve Secured by Design accreditation.

BRE conducts extensive testing using items such as bolt cutters, gas torches, scissor jack, fluorocarbon-based freeze spray and other manual tools to ensure that the SR3 door meets the specified time protection requirements of 5 minutes of continual attack.

SR4
Rotec’s SR4 rated doors provide moderate security and resistance to experienced determined attempts at forced entry, using a range of hand tools and battery powered tools including those that create noise.

BRE conducts extensive testing using items such as a ‘K-tool’ lock remover, jigsaw, sledgehammer, steel wedges and other manual tools to ensure that the SR4 door meets the specified time protection requirements of 10 minutes of continual attack.

Cambridge Science Park

When architects Scott Brownrigg were given a brief to create a new gateway to Cambridge Science Park they knew the building had to be impressive to attract the desired high tech and Research and Development companies.

The design features a colonnade sweeping across the front of the building echoing the curve of the spine road and a new public space. The column spacing guides occupants and visitors to the entrance – a GEZE Slimdrive SCR curved automatic sliding door.

The building has a BREEAM Excellent rating for its design so the Slimdrive SCR was the perfect complement.  The circular entrance features two sets of automatic bi-parting curved glass sliding doors, creating a lobby that minimises heat loss or gain and so helps to contribute to the building’s environmental credentials.

In addition the Slimdrive SCR automatic curved sliding door provides a light and airy all-glass lobby entrance which blends seamlessly into the façade and the large glass atrium, it combines high performance with unobtrusive operation.

Inside the operator’s deep canopy an integrated air curtain was installed to further minimise any heat loss and maintain the aesthetics of the building.

The Slimdrive SCR automatic operator also provides uninhibited access and so meets the demands of Part M, BS 8300 and EN 16005, whilst the access control system ensures security.

Recognising the outstanding design of the building, the Cambridge Science Park has been shortlisted for the 2023 British Council for Offices (BCO) Awards. The BCO’s primary objective is to define excellence in office space.

Ross Mcwatt, Associate Architect at Scott Brownrigg said:

“We have worked with GEZE several times, they have the same focus as we do in terms combining sustainability, accessibility and aesthetics.”

Richard Richardson-Derry,  National Specification Manager at GEZE UK added:

“This is an outstanding building, that meets many demands, we were delighted to play a part in creating an entrance and achieving the criteria of the brief.”

SILKA – creators of the super energy efficient aluminium window and door system – has added its ahead-of-the-curve Aluminium Bifold Door to the range.

With home extensions, refurbishments and new builds looking for ways to maximise natural light and become more energy efficient, the futuristic door set is the perfect product to deliver on these demands.

Boasting triple glazing as standard, its ground-breaking Thermafill™ Technology and U-values as low as 0.7 W/m²K – the SILKA Bifold Door offers a top performing, future-proofed system.

As well as ticking all the energy efficiency boxes, SILKA’s Bifold Door also benefits from SILKA’s exclusive SILKtouch sputter coat technology, offering a smooth as ‘SILKA’ feel to touch, while its robust finish helps resist finger marks and avoid unwanted smears and scratches.

SILKA has also redefined the top standard of security; its high-security Winkhaus Automatic 3-point locking mechanism offers a unique slam lock feature to its Bifold Door, ensuring that the door is always fully locked, so security is never compromised, giving homeowners that added peace of mind.

“They are the top thermally efficient doors available thanks to our ground-breaking thermal barrier, Thermafill™.

“The Aluminium Bifold Door from SILKA is available in dual colour options of Anthracite Grey and Black, with the option for White internally.

“Their slim, equal sightlines and concealed gearing mean that your home will have beautiful views of your outside space.
