Jack Aluminium achieves PAS24:2022 certification for new panic hardware on its emergency exit doors

Following the successful testing of a range of new panic hardware for its TD68 emergency exit doors, Jack Aluminium Systems has achieved PAS24:2022 certification.

Constantly looking to provide superior security to its customers, the latest PAS24:2022 assessment included testing the 485 touch bar panic unit; 585 push bar panic unit; 585 push pad emergency unit; and outside access device and security escutcheon.

Both the 485 and 585 ranges of the Concealed Vertical Rod (CVR) panic hardware are specifically designed for use on aluminium doors and are tested to BS EN 1125 and BS EN 179.

The 485 touch bar panic unit offers a sleek design and a low projection from the door face, making it suitable for sports halls, gymnasiums, hospitals and schools.

Ideal for most applications and available in a single size that can be cut to suit a range of door dimensions, the 585 push panic bar and pad unit offers great flexibility, making it perfect for public buildings, leisure venues and shops.

For added protection, Jack Aluminium Systems’ double emergency exit doors are also now fitted with security escutcheons designed to suit the internal hardware, where entry is provided by rotating the key to pull back the concealed shoot bolts and gain entry.

Andy Short, Jack Aluminium’s Managing Director, says of the latest PAS24:2022 test:

“We’re pleased to have achieved PAS24:2022 certification for our double emergency exit doors, with the new panic hardware in place.

“Safety is of the utmost importance to us here at Jack Aluminium Systems, and we’ve been working hard to get the testing right, to ensure that the end user is safe and protected from potential harm.

“This latest industry accreditation is just another example of our dedication to providing our customers with the highest quality products and services, in addition to our commitment to innovation and giving our customers a reliable and versatile product range.”

Briton Marks 25 Years of Accurate Installation with updated Accufit Template

Briton, a leading specialist in door controls and exit hardware, has launched a newly enhanced version of its long-standing and highly popular self-adhesive Accufit template, designed to aid easy and accurate installation of Briton’s trusted door closers.

For 25 years, Briton’s unique ‘peel and stick’ Accufit system has provided installers with the means to fit door closers quickly and accurately at the first attempt, improving efficiency and helping to drive better installation standards across the built environment.

Accufit self-adhesive templates are designed to be stuck to the door and its frame, allowing all fixing points to be accurately pre-drilled and helping ensure the closer is correctly positioned, in all applications.

Briton’s newly updated Accufit templates include the fixing dimensions of the door closer alongside user-friendly images of the fixing application to provide additional illustrative guidance.

Fixing instructions have also been simplified to assist installers when positioning the template, with the edge, face and inside edge frame of the door clearly marked, helping to further reduce installation time, improve the accuracy of fittings and enhance the life of the installed product.

In updating its Accufit templates, Briton aims to save installers time whilst eliminating the uncertainties associated with door closer installation, helping to ensure closers function effectively and maintain fire safety integrity as a result.

Pete Hancox, country manager at Allegion UK, commented:

“An appropriately specified, installed and maintained door closer is a prerequisite when it comes to fire door safety.

“With that in mind, and upon identifying that problems associated with the operation of door closers were often the result of incorrect installation, Briton’s door control experts developed a reliable system in the form of Accufit.

“Briton Accufit templates are designed to facilitate the correct installation of door closers, and for 25 years they have remained a proven support tool for installers.

“With changes to fire safety legislation, and a renewed focus on competency, ensuring accurate installation is now more significant than ever, and as such, it’s an opportune time to launch our enhanced Accufit system.

“In doing so, we’re confident that the Accufit system will assist in delivering accurate door closer installation and improved fire door safety standards for another 25 years to come.”

Updated versions of the Accufit template are now available with Briton 2003 and 2003V door closers, with the launch expanding across the Briton door closer range in the coming months.

Briton products are also supported with complete product information, certification and fitting instructions on the Briton website, with newly updated Accufit templates also available online.

Abloy UK heats up security at Bonk & Co showroom in Inverness

Abloy UK has supplied Bonk & Co with a CLIQ Local Manager access control solution to secure its custom-built showroom in Inverness, with the system specified and installed by MacGregor Industrial Supplies.

Bonk & Co supply and fit wood burning stoves, multi fuel stoves and range cookers across the Scottish Highlands.

The Bonk & Co showroom in Inverness is home to the company’s exclusive collection of premium branded stoves, range cookers and outdoor heating and cooking products.

With over 25 feature fireplaces on live display, the value of the goods housed within the premises meant they required an access control solution that would not only provide high security to protect against theft, but also offer an overview of who had accessed what location and at what time to make staff accountable too.

Bonk & Co discussed options with MacGregor Industrial Supplies, who recommended Abloy’s eCLIQ enabled hardware on access points, controlled by CLIQ Local Manager solution.

The specification included padlocks to secure external gates, cylinders for key switches which control roller shutter doors, and cylinders for mechanical lockcases.

CLIQ Local Manager is a locally installed software that is used for the day-to-day management of CLIQ master key systems, ideal for small to medium sized businesses.

CLIQ Local Manager allows system managers to perform a variety of tasks based on the specific needs of their environment, including managing access rights of user keys locally via desktop programming devices and now, wall programming devices too.

CLIQ Local Manager software can be installed on a standard Windows PC, offering flexibility and easy operation, with everything needed to run programmable key access control for a business.

The user-friendly interface offers the ability to add or amend users and change the access rights of CLIQ keys with the companion programming device.

System managers can limit access according to 32 programmable time slots, with key audit trails available.

Ideally suited to small or medium-sized businesses, CLIQ Local Manager works with electromechanical PROTEC2 CLIQ systems as well as eCLIQ, the fully electronic key access system based on the same technology.

Reagan Brice, Office Manager at Bonk & Co explained:

“Due to the high value of the products that we supply, we needed a high quality, high security solution to ensure our assets were kept safe.

“We also required a solution that didn’t need too much infrastructure.

“CLIQ Local Manager really appealed to us as it allowed us to combine a variety of different locking solutions into one overall system.

“We are now able to programme time schedules for different members of staff, and block lost or stolen keys should we need to.

“We also liked the ability to have audit trails, and being able to determine the movement of staff by viewing the user-friendly software has increased security significantly.

“The fact we could install the system with minimal disruption was another benefit and there was no need to run cables or introduce power supply units.

“MacGregor Industrial Supplies did an outstanding job in specifying and installing the system and we appreciated the level of support we were afforded by Abloy as global company.”

BFT Automation Launches Next-Generation Product Line

BFT Automation, the specialists in automation technology, has announced the exclusive launch of the next generation of the Phobos and Kustos motors, as well as the brand new Phobos Veloce – a fast 24v motor for residential use.

These updated electromechanical operators are currently available in single and twin swing gate kits and offer a new experience as they work with the brand new Mitto Cool transmitter and brand new Thalia BT A80 control board.

The new Phobos and Kustos models have been redesigned and come with improved features including magnetic limit switches located on top of the motor to enable easier and faster installation, patented vibration feedback for adjustment of limit switches, quieter motors that are retrofit for older systems and all new models are now 30% faster than the older versions.

Now available in a two-button and four-button version, one of the key benefits of the Mitto Cool transmitter is the improved security.

The transmitter uses rolling code to transmit new radio data protocol, which is masked with a sophisticated encryption key – making it impossible to copy the transmitters from BFT to fake ones.

The new Thalia BT A80 control panel, which replaces the Thalia Light control panel, is designed for 24v swing gate operators.

This now offers an improved internal design with a removable remote memory card that retains control panel settings and transmitter memory, which means it can be moved to a new control panel.

The standard transmitter capacity of the Thalia BT A80 is increased from 64 transmitters to 128 transmitters.

Commenting on the next generation product line, Matthew Batson, Sales Operation Director, said:

“The improvements we have made to our product line and the introduction of the brand new Phobos Veloce represent a significant milestone.

“The new products have been designed with the installer in mind and are the next generation of BFT operators. We are future proofing the technology as we develop more BFT products.

“We look forward to introducing this new line to installers and providing training on these products at the BFT UK Training Academy in Stockport and Swindon.”

ExecuJet Middle East, a partnership between Alpha Middle East Holdings and Luxaviation, opened its new flagship headquarters at Dubai South’s Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) in December 2023.

Besides a 15,000 m2 FBO with 7,000 m2 of hangar space, this new facility also includes a 15,350 m2 independent MRO facility with a hangar and adjacent workshops that can accommodate 18 to 24 business jets simultaneously.

Construction company, ‘Amana Contracting & Steel Buildings’ awarded Jewers Doors the contract to supply, deliver, install, and commission two sets of Esavian 126-SBR horizontal sliding doors for this prestigious, state-of-the-art hangar complex and FBO.

The new hangar facility has two specialist zones, each with a separate door, the first being dedicated for the MRO hangar (Maintenance Repair and Overhaul) and the second dedicated to ExecuJet’s FBO operations.

The MRO hangar door, pictured centre and left, is 135,100 mm wide x 13,500 mm high and is fitted with six equal door leaves, each 23,000 mm wide running on three continuous tracks.

All six leaves slide independently of one another within the two openings.

The FBO hangar opening, picture to the right, is 89,500mm wide x 13,500 mm high and is fitted with three equal door leaves, each 30,453mm wide running on three continuous tracks.

All three leaves slide independently of one another within the opening.

Ben Pritchard, Regional Sales Manager at Jewers Doors, said

“We were delighted to be awarded the sliding hangar door package for this prestigious project.

New MINI John Cooper Works to Debut at 24 Hours of Nürburgring Ahead of its World Premiere

MINI enthusiasts and motorsport fans are eagerly awaiting the debut of the highly anticipated New MINI John Cooper Works.

It is set to make its first appearance at this year's 24 Hours of Nürburgring, one of the toughest endurance races in the world, challenging drivers and teams to conquer the iconic Nürburgring- Nordschleife over a gruelling, day-long battle of speed, skill, and reliability.

The new petrol-powered MINI John Cooper Works, cloaked in a bespoke camouflage designed by the MINI Design Team, pays homage to the iconic red and white color schemes used for classic Minis in motorsports in the 1960s.

Celebrating its world premiere in fall 2024, the New MINI John Cooper Works marks a significant milestone in MINI's commitment to innovation and heritage.

In a bold move, the new MINI John Cooper Works lineup, developed to push the boundaries of speed and agility, will be available in both petrol and all-electric versions.

In a nod to Mini’s historic victory of the Mini Cooper S at the 1964 Rallye Monte Carlo 60 years ago, the racecar features a distinctive “37” logo, commemorating this milestone achievement.

This emblem serves as a homage to MINI’s rich motorsport tradition.

The New MINI John Cooper Works #317 will be entered by the private racing team from Nürburg, Bulldog Racing, and will be competing in the SP 3T category.

Dubbed “MINI John Cooper Works PRO”, the MINI Twin-Power Turbo racecar represents the perfect fusion of MINI's iconic design and reliability and Bulldog Racing's track-tested expertise.

The second entry will be the beloved black MINI John Cooper Works #474 manual transmission, which showcased its prowess by securing a podium finish at last year's 24 Hours of Nürburgring, proving its mettle against fierce competition in the VT-2 category, cementing its status as a formidable contender in endurance racing.

As anticipation builds for its debut, MINI fans and automotive enthusiasts alike can expect an unforgettable showcase of the New MINI John Cooper Works capabilities at this year’s 24 Hours of Nürburgring from June 1st to June 2nd 2024.

HOPPE (UK) team receive GAI double-crest in industry first

Three employees at HOPPE (UK) are among the first in the architectural ironmongery industry to hold dual-Registered status from the Guild of Architectural Ironmongers (GAI).

Business development managers Karen Nelson, Andrew Syms and Garrath Willshaw were already Registered Architectural Ironmongers (RegAI), but after being awarded their Diploma in Door Systems in November last year, they have gone on to complete the relevant GAI CPD programme in less than six months, allowing them to also hold Registered Door Systems (RegDS) status.

The Diploma in Door Systems educates learners on the technical expertise and understanding of key factors when specifying door systems. ARRONE technical managers Rob Adams and Rob Mottram also achieved the diploma in November and now hold RegDS status.

Karen Nelson, who was also awarded the Fellowship Award at the GAI Education awards last year, said:
“I’m so proud to be a GAI-registered professional and to hold the double-crest. It’s important to be able to prove competency in the industry to not only our customers, but the wider construction industry that we are interacting with on a daily basis.”
The RegAI and RegDS designations show that an individual is a fully qualified architectural ironmongery professional who has completed a GAI Diploma and is now maintaining a high level of knowledge via the GAI CPD programme.

Ged Ryan, CEO of HOPPE (UK), said:
“To have five members of staff holding RegDS status when they were only awarded the diploma in November shows their commitment to learning and to providing the best service to our customers.”
HOPPE (UK) has 20 members of staff holding at least one GAI qualification or certificate. Over the years, several of the HOPPE (UK) team have been recognised at Guild awards for their contribution to the industry. Andrew Syms and Debbie Burston, sales executive, have recently been shortlisted for the ‘Customer Focus’ and ‘Achiever’ awards respectively at the GAI Community Awards in June.

To speak to a GAI-qualified person at HOPPE about specifications call 01902 484 400.

Business “founded in a skip” voted the UK’s best Small Business in National Awards

The rapidly growing upcycling business Green Doors has won the top prize at this year's Small Awards.

The Luton-based company, founded by Joseph Holman in 2014, was awarded the ‘Best Overall Small Business’ as well as gaining the coveted ‘Net Hero’ prize.

Holman and managing director Levi Lucas were presented with their awards by the comedian and former Bake Off host Sue Perkins at the ceremony in London.

Joseph Holman said:
“We were so overwhelmed to win at The Small Awards, not just once, but two different awards - Net Hero and Small Business of the Year.
“We have been running the business for 10 years, built from a passion of wanting to rescue things that deserve a second chance and to preserve our planet.
“The award for Best Overall Small Business came as quite of a surprise, as we believed we were only shortlisted for the Net Hero award, which was as a result of our contribution to sustainability in the construction industry.”
Holman founded his business after selling a set of French doors which he found in a skip.

This gave him the idea of building a large scale business, providing customers with surplus and second hand doors at lower prices, while also reducing waste destined for landfill.

Green Doors now employs 30 staff, produces a revenue of close to £2M and has thousands of doors and windows at its warehouse.
“We are on a mission to give doors a second chance and this award is a significant milestone for us in that mission," said Joseph.
“We have come an incredibly long way in the past decade. Not bad for a business started in a skip.”
“We have been running the business for ten years – starting out with nothing more than a set of doors found in a skip.
“In those ten years we have built it up from a passion of wanting to rescue things that deserved a second chance and to preserve our planet.
“But to then be chosen as best overall small business has meant so much to the team, it hasn’t quite sunk in.
“This makes me think that what we’re doing is clearly making a difference and that is so encouraging for everyone involved.”
Joseph Holman is the CEO and founder of upcycling company Green Doors, which started with a door he found in a skip. The business now produces revenues of close to £2m and has 30 employees.

Last year the business saved over 3000 items destined for landfill and currently has thousands of doors and windows for sale in its 50,000 square foot warehouse.

Holman is on a mission to provide every door and window with a second life and to stop uPVC going to landfill.

ZEROplus Announce NEW Slimline Drop Seals Range for Timber Doors

Leading door hardware supplier, ZEROplus has recently added a new range of slimline, morticed drop seals to its extensive range of high-quality door hardware.

The innovative automatic drop seals have been specially designed for timber doors and are ideal for internal doors in residential apartments, offices, or public buildings.

The Ellenmatic range includes smoke and fire-rated, acoustic, and weatherproofing drop seals. And when used with the Elegance Cassette, the slimline drop seals can also be applied to glass doors.

Managing Director Mark Lockley comments:
‘Our new Ellenmatic drop seals are easy to fit, need no power connection, and provide a self-levelling, tight seal, even on uneven floors. Concealed in a rebate at the bottom of the timber door leaf, the automatic drop seals offer an aesthetically pleasing, highly effective seal, stopping draughts, the passage of dust and debris from one area to another and providing a threshold-free passage for disabled people’.
Both the Ellenmatic Soundproof and Ellenmatic Slim Soundproof are suitable for use in timber fire doors and have been fire-tested to BS EN 1634-1 and smoke-tested to BS EN 1634-3.

Mark continues, ‘Did you know, according to the Fire Door Inspection Organisation, 75% of UK fire doors fail inspections? 77% of these failures are due to excessive gaps between the door and frame, so it’s crucial to fit and properly maintain your fire and smoke seals.’

The Ellenmatic Brush provides the perfect weather seal with its soft brush for sealing on rough surfaces, preventing draughts air leakage, and heat transfer by creating a tight seal at the bottom of the door. The sealed door bottom also improves a building’s energy efficiency by reducing heat loss in the winter and heat gain in the summer, creating a more ambient room temperature to improve energy savings and increase comfort.

To learn more about the Ellenmatic drop seals range, please visit zeroplus.co.uk or call 01785 282 910.

New Roller Shutter from Hörmann

Hörmann UK has announced the launch of their new Roller Shutter TD door, an entry-level door which has been designed and developed specifically for use in agricultural, light industrial and commercial properties such as shop fronts.

Manufactured from robust galvanised steel, the TD roller shutter is available with either a solid or perforated profile. Tested and certified to BS EN 13241, the roller shutter is supplied with ‘pull out’ protection as standard and conforms to wind class 3 making it suitable for both external and internal installation.

The roller door is particularly suited for installation in space-limited areas and can be fitted either in front, behind or within the building opening. It has been designed and developed to be quick and easy to install, together with providing simple operation.

Space-saving 60mm side guides can be either welded to the building or mounted using pre-prepared fixing points, whilst the tubular drive is operated via a press-and-hold operation which can be either surface or flush-mounted. In the event of a power failure, the shutter door can be opened or closed with a sunblind pole from the barrel side.

When fitted the door has a standard safety catch which prevents uncontrolled unwinding of the curtain and security is assured by inbuilt features which make it difficult to pull the curtain out of the side guides.

The TD roller shutter can be supplied to a maximum width and height of 4000mm.

For more information on Hörmann sectional garage doors visit Rolling Shutters & Rolling Grilles on the Hörmann website.

UL Solutions Telford Centre Helps Reduce Time to Market

Mike Wass, business manager with the Built Environment group at UL Solutions, explains how the Telford testing facility can help door and window manufacturers get products tested and certified in as little as four weeks.

Testing construction products in the United Kingdom (U.K.) has proved challenging for many years. The introduction of the U.K. Conformity Assessed (UKCA) marking, the uncertainty that came with it and an evolving regulatory landscape alongside routine testing needs have caused an influx in demand that saw some manufacturers waiting months to get a testing slot.

UL Solutions opened its newest testing laboratory at its Telford centre in the U.K. to provide a single location for door, window, hardware and building envelope system manufacturers and to help relieve the backlog. U.K. Accreditation Service (UKAS)-accredited test and third-party certification facilities provide mechanical testing and certification for physical security, durability and performance of doors, windows and hardware.

Furnished with state-of-the-art testing equipment, the Telford facility can accommodate a variety of window and door configurations, testing to a range of industry-recognised standards, including PAS 24: 2022 and the BS 6375 series.

In some cases, the experts at the Telford laboratory can do single tests for PAS 24, enhanced security performance requirements for doorsets and windows in the U.K., and BS 6375 Part 1, Performance of Windows and Doors – Classification for Weathertightness and Guidance on Selection and Specification, in as little as two weeks. The resulting reports are also available within two weeks of testing.

Secured by Design

For manufacturers wanting to enter the U.K. market, verifying performance through independent assessment proves that both products and procedures meet accepted performance standards.

Accreditation looks beyond just the products for the police-backed Secured by Design (SBD) scheme. This is where the vital third-party certification element comes into the equation.

UL Solutions’ approach to PAS 24, which can help demonstrate that a product meets SBD requirements and the relevant fit-for-purpose standards, is not just about mechanical and manual checks on the product; it also involves scrutinising the factory and manufacturing processes.

If the product meets requirements, UL Solutions will issue a certificate allowing the manufacturer to promote the product as certified to PAS 24. The product then undergoes annual audits thereafter to confirm that it meets the requirements and to demonstrate that its compliance was not incidental.

Trusted partner

Manufacturers working with UL Solutions can access safety science expertise with global safety and testing knowledge. UL Solutions serves as a trusted partner to global businesses, helping them demonstrate compliance in the U.K. market. For example, Schüco UK, a global manufacturer of aluminium and steel window, door and façade systems, has been utilising the facilities at Telford as part of its ongoing testing procedures.

“At Schüco UK, we take huge pride in the testing and certification of our products that support our partners and end users,” said Paul Feldwick, product manager for steel systems, fire and security, testing and certification at Schüco UK.

“Given the size of our product portfolio and the rapidly changing marketplace we operate in, the positive ‘can do’ attitude, coupled with their commitment to quality, were key for us in selecting UL Solutions as our testing provider,” Feldwick continued.
