Liftmaster: Ensuring the Success of any Residential or Commercial Access Project

As all professionals will know, the success of any residential or commercial access project will always be determined by the extent to which it meets at least three primary objectives:

  • it must be secure and efficient,
  • it must be comfortable and convenient to operate,
  • it must be designed to discreetly match and complement the setting.

Consistent attention to such core detail is just one of many reasons why LiftMaster, an important brand of the Chamberlain Group, has remained a market leader in this industry for so many years.

Others may manage to deliver some of these requirements, but it takes LiftMaster's long experience and mature understanding of market expectations to deliver the full package to each and every customer on time, every time.

A strategic relocation

In June 2017, LiftMaster celebrated 50 years of supplying the industry’s most trusted and dependable products – a period during which the company also brought more than 30 key industry breakthroughs to the market.

But far from contentedly resting on its laurels, Chamberlain Group has recently moved its European company headquarters Chamberlain GmbH from Saarwellingen, Germany, to the state capital Saarbrücken, some 37 kilometres to the south and a little closer to the French border.

As a result of this restructure, as of June 2019, LiftMaster can now operate from a rather more central location. And although this prestigious new site is in every respect a fully equipped modern building, its elegant and impressive architecture has also managed to preserve and convey a sophisticated, ambient sense of the site’s former history.

From a business and commercial perspective, these new offices offer a layout which facilitates more efficient communication. But in addition, the modern, open-plan design, sensitive landscaping of green areas, and provision of bicycle routes and footpaths alongside major transport links, also reflect the company’s product philosophy of sensitive and harmonious accommodation and integration of modern features and functions.

Contemporary innovation and connectivity

These new trading arrangements are a fitting acquisition for a company which employs 6,000 people worldwide and is now a global leader in all kinds of access solutions. And the secret of LiftMaster’s success is its ability to create innovative designs and products which reflect contemporary needs, without losing sight of the key essentials, nor compromising on traditional standards of workmanship.

For instance, the Internet of Things (IoT) and digital home automation may appear to be emergent technologies. LiftMaster’s own dedicated MyQ app technology (available free from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store) has enabled users to remotely control and monitor the opening of doors and entrance gates, using handheld devices such as tablets and smartphones.

A European first

The new LiftMaster LM3800W jackshaft garage door opener is yet another example of the company’s innovative, solution-oriented outlook. This is Europe’s first opener with an integrated Wi-Fi interface. With no additional gateway requirement, the unit can be easily configured to link with the home router.

And installers will appreciate the ease with which this streamlined, space-saving wall mounted unit can be fitted, as well as the intuitive, fully electronic setup procedure. Homeowners too will appreciate the unit’s inconspicuous appearance and powerful smart features, which can include comprehensive control of in-situ lighting arrangements.

Serving both industry and the private sector

Beyond its unrivalled position as the No. 1 worldwide supplier of garage door openers for professional installation, LiftMaster is also a leading manufacturer of door openers for industry and for the private sector, as well as a trusted supplier of a range of smart, secure and convenient residential and industrial access products.

The Cars that Established the Bentley Legend, Coming to Concours of Elegance

The Concours of Elegance will this year be celebrating Bentley’s Centenary year in style, with a display of the cars that established the Bentley legend, both on and off the race track.

From the first Bentley to race at Le Mans – a 1923 3 Litre –  and Speed Six ‘Old Number One’ – victorious at Le Mans in 1929 and 1930 – to Her Majesty The Queen’s State Limousine, it’s a journey through Bentley’s incredible 100 years from automotive innovator to global luxury icon.

The Bentley legend was built on the race-track, and Concours of Elegance will gather only the most important motorsport Bentleys. It was with the 3 Litre that the on-track legend really began, when an example was privately entered into the Le Mans 24 Hours race in 1923. Founder W.O. Bentley attended last-minute, convinced the race was ‘crazy’, but watched the 3 Litre set a lap record and finish fourth overall, hindered only by a hole in the petrol tank. This very car will be coming to Concours of Elegance in September.

The following year, in 1924, Bentley returned to Le Mans with a 3 Litre and won. But it was only later that Bentley made yet more history at Le Mans, with Speed Six ‘Old Number One’, which became the first car to win the race back-to-back in ’29 and ’30. Piloted by Woolf Barnato and Tim Birkin in its maiden win at the world-famous 24-hour race, ‘Old Number One’ took two other race podiums that year. Famed Bentley Boy Barnato drove the racer to a second victory at Le Mans, alongside Glen Kidston in 1930. It will be joined by Speed Six ‘Old Number Three’, which also raced at Le Mans in 1930, and was running in the top two before leaving the track at the Pontlieue Hairpin.

Joining the iconic racers is the car that helped establish Bentley’s reputation for innovation in the pursuit of speed; Bentley 4.5 Litre Blower No.1. This car was built by Tim Birkin before W.O. Bentley was convinced to build the 50 4.5 Litre supercharged ‘Blowers’ that were necessary to comply with Le Mans racing regulations. Blower No.1 is joined by two later ‘Blowers’, including the most original in existence; the No.2 car raced by Tim Birkin at Le Mans in 1930. The Concours of Elegance’s pre-event ‘Tour of Norfolk’ will pay homage to this great Bentley racer, with a visit to his final resting place.

Many of Bentley’s racing endeavours were undertaken by a wealthy group of young motoring enthusiasts, who have become known as the Bentley Boys. But their racing antics didn’t always stick to the track – in fact, one of the most famous races undertaken was against a train. Le Train Bleu, more specifically.

Woolf Barnato, the only man with a 100% record at Le Mans (three starts, three wins), wagered £200 in 1930 that he could outrun Le Train Bleu between St Raphael and Calais in his Bentley. Not only that, but he bet he could get to London before the train reached its destination. Barnato travelled the 570 miles to Calais in record time (setting up his fuel stops in advance), boarded a steamer and finished off his dash to London, arriving 700 miles later with an average speed of just over 43mph. Needless to say, Barnato arrived in London four minutes before the train reached Calais.

Despite some controversy surrounding which car Barnato completed the race in, the coachbuilt Bentley Speed Six Gurney Nutting remains most closely associated with the race, and is possibly the most legendary road-going Bentley in history, and the car that single-handedly exemplifies the Bentley Boys legend better than any other. Visitors to Concours of Elegance will have a chance to see this piece of history first-hand.

And the Gurney Nutting car won’t be the only rare coachbuilt Bentley on display; Concours of Elegance will also be welcoming the completely unique Bentley 4 ¼ Litre Cabriolet by Antem. The low windscreen and coach lines sloping towards the tail are Antem trademarks, complemented by a beautiful trimmed interior and painted dashboard.

The Bentley story is crowned, quite literally, by the State Limousine; Her Majesty The Queen’s official car. Presented in 2002 – The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee year – and based on the Arnage R, the State Limousine features completely bespoke body and interior by Mulliner, including a lengthened wheelbase and a heightened roofline, amongst numerous other upgrades and enhancements. Only two Bentley State Limousines exist, and one example will be on display in the Fountain Gardens of Hampton Court Palace for this year’s Concours of Elegance.

Andrew Evans, Concours of Elegance Director, said:
“We couldn’t let the Centenary of Bentley pass without doing something special. And in the truest expression of what Concours of Elegance is about, we wanted only the best Bentleys, so what we’ll be displaying is a collection of the most famous, most important and most influential Bentley models ever. Between them, they’ve established Bentley’s reputation for craftsmanship, speed and innovation. There’s no better way to celebrate one of Britain’s finest marques.”

Having already revealed the world-first Aston Martin Zagato feature, which will display one of every model produced by one of motoring’s most legendary partnership, and the 70th anniversary display of five Ferrari 166MM models – including the 1949 Le Mans and Mille Miglia-winning car – Concours of Elegance is set to be the most spectacular yet. Of course, that’s without mentioning what always sits at the heart of the event – over 60 of the rarest cars ever built.

Adult tickets for this year’s Concours of Elegance start from £40, with children under five and carers entering free of charge. Visitors are also able to purchase bespoke hospitality packages, including VIP parking, three-course lunch, drinks reception and cream tea.

Abloy Launches Global Vision and Elite Racer Brand Collaboration at IFSEC 2019

Security expert Abloy UK is inviting visitors to IFSEC 2019 to learn more about its innovative new global vision, ‘Abloy - For Trust’, and meet the company’s new brand ambassador, Finnish motor racing icon Valtteri Bottas.

Held on 18th – 20th June 2019 at ExCeL London, IFSEC International is Europe's leading security event and the only global stage committed to the future of integrated security.

Valtteri Bottas - who is currently top of the Formula 1 leaderboard - will be on the stand to explain why he is the ideal match to embrace and reflect Abloy’s brand values.

Aaron Yule, Managing Director at Abloy UK, said:
“Abloy’s ‘For Trust’ campaign revitalises our core brand values and positions us for continued future growth, with refreshed branding to better represent our modern digital offering.
“We’re keen for visitors to learn more about how Valtteri fits perfectly with our brand – he is trustworthy, technologically pioneering, innovative, has a first-class performance and puts teamwork at the heart of everything he does.”

Alongside launching ‘For Trust’ with Valterri, Abloy is also showcasing a number of innovative products at IFSEC 2019.

These include:

  • PROTEC2 CLIQ® - The easy-to-use access control system. It enables remote key management and provides comprehensive audit trails on locks and padlocks which fulfils the demands of regulators. It also has the ability to electronically remove lost or stolen keys from the system, meaning security can still be confidently maintained in circumstances where a key has been misplaced.

  • PROTEC2 CLIQ® can also ensure the safety of the people on site through not just managing and controlling access but delivering significant health and safety benefits by guaranteeing only the most competent and compliant staff are allowed on site, reducing risk.

  • PROTEC2 CLIQ® Connect recently won a prestigious Platinum ‘Govie’ Award in the USA, honoured as an outstanding government security product.

  • CLIQ® Go  - The CLIQ® Go app enables users to control security in their building and premises from their mobile device. Features include the ability to schedule access to rooms or give contractors time-limited access. If a key is lost, access can also be revoked using the CLIQ Go app, all managed from a cloud-based system which is ideal for SME’s, Education, Retail and Hotels.

  • Abloy OS – This is a contemporary, modular and scalable operating system, integrated with CLIQ® Web Manager, that allows users to control door environments and secure access.
The visual map-based user interface provides role and area-based access control, with a real time situational view. This accurate and convenient management of keys, identities and access reduces the resources required, thereby improving efficiency and user satisfaction. The system is Cloud hosted, and is future-proofed to develop according to customer needs.

  • Escape Door System (EDS) – The EDS offers easy access and egress while ensuring compliance, safety and security with the ability to implement dynamic lockdown procedures.
With the EDS, it is now possible to provide a compliant solution for an escape door when read-in / read-out access control is specified, combining the three components required for BS EN 13637 (electronically controlled escape door systems for doors along escape routes) - Blocking, Control and Trigger.

  • Traka21 – Traka21 is a sophisticated stand-alone key management system which combines innovative RFID technology and attractive, robust design to provide small and medium sizes businesses with the advanced management of keys or keysets in an affordable plug and play unit. Simple, efficient and cost-effective, Traka21 helps trace and account for every key or keyset, which are individually locked in place, ensuring that critical business operations are never jeopardised.

  • Electric locks – Products such as the Abloy EL560 solenoid lock and EL520 motorised lock work by controlling either the latch or the handle, or by motorising the bolt back once a proximity card is presented or a request to exit device is used.
This ensures that only authorised personnel are able to gain access to the building, and the system will prevent any unauthorised persons from entering.  This is ideal for exit and fire rated doors within the interior of premises such as business offices, public buildings, hospitals and schools.

Electric locks also offer energy and emission reductions in comparison to door magnets. There are also safety benefits to be gained by choosing an electric solution, including removing the fire risks associated with the installation of door magnets on fire escape points.

Safer docking with Hörmann UK

Europe’s leading door provider, Hörmann UK, is continuing to establish its position at the forefront of industry developments with the launch of its new DAP electronic docking assistance technology.

The latest system is designed to accelerate the docking process, whilst simultaneously protecting drivers and warehouse operators from injury and minimising the potential risk of collision damage to vehicles and loading ramps.

Featuring LED warning lights, the docking aid assists drivers when approaching the loading bay, enabling the vehicles to dock safely and quickly, without the dangerous requirement to exit the vehicle or perform multiple manoeuvres.

The solution can be used independently or can be combined with Hörmann’s innovative WSPG wheel chock for overarching safety.

Situated on a robust mounting arm on the sides of the loading point, the photocells are positioned to alter the LED signal from green to yellow when the vehicle reaches the switching range of the first photocell.

The colour will change from yellow to red when the second photocell is reached. If only one photocell is used, the colour will switch directly from green to red.

The light will only change to a green signal once the door of the vehicle has closed after loading or a connected wheel block has been removed and the driver has permission to exit the bay.

Tom Langley, Projects Director at Hörmann UK, said:
“Our new product launch follows a successful year of growth for our industrial department, reflecting our commitment to providing the logistics sector with the most efficient, affordable and safe solutions available.
“We work closely with our logistics clients, using their feedback to fuel our research and development to manufacture, supply, install and service products that will support them in streamlining the supply chain process.”

The DAP docking support system operates in the temperature range of -20°to +60°  and can be connected to Hörmann’s DAS-3 inflatable dock seal, which can be automatically activated and deactivated during loading or unloading.

To view Hörmann UK’s complete offering for the industrial sector, visit www.hormann.co.uk or call 01530 513000.

DHF launches one-day Automated Gate Group Certificate Course in Ireland

DHF has announced that its first one-day public Automated Gate Group Certificate Course will be launching in Ireland this July.

The inaugural course, aimed specifically at installers and maintenance operatives, will take place on Wednesday 17th July at the Green Isle Hotel in Clondalkin, Dublin, Ireland.

It’s the very first time that DHF has launched a one-day automated gate course in Ireland, with the federation delighted to be offering this to installers, whether a member of DHF or not.

DHF’s Commercial Manager, Patricia Sowsbery-Stevens, explains:
“Comprising five learning modules, with each module ending in a short examination that reinforces the key learning points, delegates will learn how to use the appropriate parts of technical specification, DHF TS 011:2019. They will also gain a deeper understanding of standards affecting the safety of new installations, maintenance and repair of automated gates and traffic barriers.
“The course presents examples of past failures and prosecutions as well as giving the learner the ability to accurately conduct and document a risk assessment.  We are delighted to be able to bring this to a wider audience.
Previously, we have only offered our two-day Diploma course on a private basis with our member companies, so this is a real leap of faith in the installer sector.  If successful, we plan to introduce regular courses in Dublin, going forward.”
She continues, “DHF was approached by the PSA (Private Security Authority) to use DHF TS 011:2019 as the foundation for a standard they are creating for the automated gate and traffic barrier sector.  This seemed a perfect time to introduce public courses for those wishing to gain a better understanding of the proposed new standard.
“DHF remains 100% committed to raising standards through its comprehensive training courses and we continue to urge both managers and operatives to ensure they have received the appropriate level of training to fulfil their legal and moral responsibilities.  There can be no place in our industry for unsafe, non-compliant products and dangerous installations.”

For further information about DHF training courses, please visit: www.dhfonline.org.uk

Hörmann UK opens the gate to greater durability for Highways England

Authorised Hörmann UK supplier, Livewire Gates, has significantly reduced costs while simultaneously increasing efficiency for Highways England at its Northern depots through the installation of Hörmann UK’s HS200 and HS280 steel sliding industrial gates.

Since 2016, Livewire Gates has been an official partner of Hörmann UK, supplying its sliding industrial gates to a range of high profile companies across the country throughout the logistics, pharmaceuticals and public sector, including Highways England.

Due to Highways England’s depots being located just off the nation’s busiest motorways, the high salt content and harsh elements of the open landscape, combined with the heavy winds caused by the constant flow of fast traffic, caused existing gates to quickly corrode. This required frequent and costly replacements by Highways England to ensure the security of the government vehicles and materials were never compromised.

After searching for a supplier that could provide a durable, resilient and highly secure solution that would easily withstand the weather conditions and heavy useage, Highways England commissioned Livewire gates to install Hörmann UK’s HS200 and HS280 steel sliding industrial gates.

Featuring a self-supporting structure and durable steel frame that easily handles high usage, the HS200 and HS280 models were installed throughout Highways England’s northern depots located in Kendal, Workington, Shap and Preston.

Mark Corner, a Director at Livewire Gates, said:
“We specified Hörmann UK’s HS200 and HS280 steel sliding industrial gates for Highways England back in 2016 and they are still delivering the same level of performance three years later. The motorway depots are all located in rural locations around Cumbria, where harsh weather conditions can prove to be troublesome.
“Through our partnership with Hörmann UK we have been able to provide the client with solutions that can withstand these climates with ease, particularly with regard to resisting corrosion. The HS200 and HS280 are superior products within the industry as they are easy to install and require minimal maintenance, which is essential for this client as they need to be operational at all times to ensure the nation’s motorways and major A roads are running as they should be.
“In terms of installation, Hörmann UK delivered the gates with a template, so our team simply had to lift the gate into place once it was delivered. This enabled us to minimise any potential disruption to the operations of the depots, whilst also ensuring security of the site was never compromised.
“Our customers select Hörmann UK’s products as they are confident they will offer the greatest standards in longevity and durability. This is supported by the fact that in the three years we have been supplying Hörmann UK’s industrial sliding gates, we have not experienced a single fault. We also know that in the unlikely event of downtime, Hörmann UK’s service team will get our customers back up and running as soon as possible.”

The HS200 steel sliding gate is available with a bottom beam height of 200mm, clear passage width up to 10,000 mm and operator power of 0.37kW. The HS280 offers a larger profile with a bottom beam height of 280mm, a clear passage width up to 12000mm and operator power of 0.75kw. Both styles offer customers a breadth of designs, styles and sizes, tailored to the needs of their individual operations.

The fully welded HS200 and HS280 steel sliding gates are available in varying sizes, with the addition of flashing warning lights and brakes available for emergency operation, improving safety standards for sites that are in frequent use.

As standard, the industrial gates include five self-monitoring closing edge safety devices, which stop the gate instantly to ensure the safest possible working environment for drivers and on site staff where the gates are in frequent use. Adding to the safety features of the HS200 and HS280, Hörmann UK includes an electronic control system, which features a radio control and automatic timed opening and closing.

Hörmann UK’s industrial sliding gates also include aluminium guide rollers, which are attached on the top edge of the gate leaf. The design means that there is no direct contact between the track rollers and the gate coating, which helps to preserve the aesthetic appeal of the gates.

Industrial Service Manager at Hörmann UK, Phillip Clark added:
“We have recently doubled our servicing team so that we are able to minimise downtime and any other inconveniences that arise from irregular servicing and maintenance. We are dedicated to providing Livewire with the highest service level and look forward to helping them meet their customer’s individual needs for years to come, including Highways England.”

Jack Barclay Bentley Hosts James Bond Exhibition; Including Two of the First Bond Cars

For a week this June, the famous ‘JB’-emblazoned doors of Jack Barclay Bentley in Mayfair – the world’s oldest Bentley showroom – will come to represent another ‘JB’; the world’s most famous secret agent, James Bond.

From 11th-16th June, Jack Barclay Bentley will be hosting a free exhibition of James Bond rarities, including original Bond cars, in partnership with Peter Harrington Rare Books.

In amongst the precious artefacts, visitors will be able to see key moments from the genesis of the James Bond story, including a first edition, first impression Casino Royale book – the first ever appearance of James Bond – signed by Ian Fleming himself.

Valued at £135,000, this magnificent presentation copy is inscribed by Fleming to the employer who gave him the means to write - James Gomer Berry, 1st Viscount Kemsley - and his second wife, Edith: "To Gomer and Edith, wishing them both always a nine when it is needed, and in memory of ten happy years of playing with and against them across the green baize. From Ian."

From some of Fleming’s earliest work on Bond to arguably his last, Peter Harrington Rare Books will be supplying a corrected typescript of ‘The Man with the Golden Gun’, used as the setting copy for Fleming's last Bond novel. Fleming's text was sent to the typists in batches between 15 April and 16 June, and three sub-edited typescripts were completed by 24 June.

This is one of those copies, presumably that which was sent to Fleming on 25 June and which, with Fleming's light revisions, was then sent to William Plomer at Cape on 1 July. Fleming was not satisfied with the text and planned to revise it in Jamaica the following year so he did not wish the typescript to be circulated within the wider editorial team.

Fleming's health, which had been poor for some time however, was in rapid decline and he died on 12 August. This typescript therefore almost certainly contains Fleming's last ever work on James Bond, and is valued at £175,000.

Pom Harrington, Owner of Peter Harrington Rare Books, said:
"Bond has been at the forefront of book collecting concerns for decades now, and a large part of that fascination stems from quite how intriguing a man Fleming was in his own right.
"A lot of the character and quirk that Bond is known for in the novels relates directly to the author himself, and it's impossible to ignore comparisons between the two, not only in the way he thought of himself, the world and the people in it, but in his pursuits and preferred luxuries.
"Bentley is a prime example of the latter, and we're delighted to be collaborating with Jack Barclay Bentley for this exhibition."

And the venue –  Jack Barclay Bentley in Mayfair – is even more fitting than you might think; the very first James Bond cars – from the Ian Fleming-penned novels – were Bentleys. In among the precious books and manuscripts, you’ll find examples of the first two Bond cars; a Bentley 4.5-litre Blower and a Mark VI.

Fleming revealed in interviews that he had put Bond in a Blower because he liked him to ‘use dashing, interesting things. ‘Although his choice was also no doubt in tribute to Fleming’s friend, Amherst Villiers, who helped to develop parts of the design of the 4.5-litre ‘Blower’.

Bond drives the ‘Blower’ for the entirety of the first book, Casino Royale, but writes it off while chasing Drax in the second book, Moonraker. Bond quickly replaces it with a Bentley Mk VI, an example of which will also be on display at Jack Barclay.

Jack Barclay Bentley has a unique connection to the Bentley brand, with its namesake considered as one of the original ‘Bentley Boys’. In fact, Jack Barclay himself drove a Bentley 4.5-litre to victory in the 1929 Brooklands 500, setting an average speed of more than 107mph.

The showroom retains many of its original features, including the iconic chequered floor, wood-panelling and art deco signage.

Single and Dual Loop Detector for Reliable and Fail Safe Vehicle Detection

Carlo Gavazzi’s latest LDP series of loop detectors provide reliable and accurate vehicle detection and is designed specifically to ensure ease of installation.

The automatic frequency tuning ensures that each time it is powered up or reset it will automatically detect disturbances present on any of the four channels and in turn will choose the channel with the best signal condition whilst the selectable sensitivity allows adjustments in 10 steps from 1 to 10. 1 being the least sensitive and 10 the most sensitive.

The Automatic Sensitivity Boost (ASB) ensures accurate detection of high-base vehicles such as trucks and buses whilst the automatic loop frequency tuning avoids cross talk between loops when installed in close proximity to each other.

Crucially, the built-in fail safe / fail secure function; on detection of an error such as power loss or loop fault allows the loop detector to operate either to open or close the barriers safely.

The multicolour power/fault LED feature ensures simple diagnostics and ensures rapid troubleshooting; providing an effective method for monitoring the loop status, cross talk, short circuit, open circuit and inductance out of range.

The new LD series comes with two SPDT relay outputs that can be independently configured to operate in pulse or presence mode, with adjustable pulse and presence detection. The dual loop version can also determine vehicle direction.

A wide power supply range from 24 to 240 VAC/VDC, together with many other features, contributes to make the new loop detector the state-of-the-art solution for reliable universal vehicle detection.

The LDP loop detector is the perfect solution for applications such as car parks, drive through and car access control applications to control barriers, gates, bollards and car access equipment and is designed in accordance with the latest standards and European and North American regulations and is CE, UL508 and CSA certified.

More than 3,000 homeowners really rate Certass Installers

Expert certification body, Certass, has received outstanding feedback for members with its new online rating system. Since launching in November, there have been more than 3000 reviews, and the rate is increasing by the minute.

Designed to bring even more digital support to Certass members, the free ‘Rate Your Installer’ service provides consumers the chance to leave honest reviews about Certass members online.

The system acts as a platform where members can receive genuine feedback from their customers on the work that they have completed. Thousands of homeowners visit the Certass website searching for information on installers or leaving reviews.

Jason Clemmit, Managing Director at Certass says:

“Our online rating system is proving really popular amongst homeowners. Within hours of its launch, we had dozens of ratings from consumers who were leaving such positive feedback about our members.
“There are lots of popular online rating websites that allow anyone to leave feedback, which can often lead to unfair reviews. The Certass ‘Rate Your Installer’ service only permits reviews on jobs which have been finished and registered with Certass.”

All Certass members can add a company bio and have the option to opt-in to the free online rating system. Members are scored by their customers on a range of attributes, including their service, tidiness, reliability & timekeeping, workmanship standards and product suitability. Consumers can leave any additional comments too, which are great for members to use on their own website, social media profiles and marketing resources.

Jason adds: “It’s a valuable, free way for installers to show consumers what a great job that they do. The service builds on our free digital support package for members which helps them to build a professional online presence.”

Acoustic Doors – The Key to Hotel Peace

Noise from inside the hotel – particularly from the corridor - is one of the most common causes of complaint from hotel guests, leading to tired and unhappy customers who will never return, negative reviews, and potential loss of income.

But it is possible to fight these negative hotel complaints is by preparing for them and properly soundproofing hotel doors with effective acoustic seals.

While the structure of sound attenuating doors is clearly vital, many are let down by the seals selected. Sound, unlike air passage can and will escape from the tiniest gaps: a door open (or with a gap of) 1% will let 50% sound through it and most soundproofing issues or noise leakage problems are down to either a lack of the correct acoustic doors seal, or badly-fitted or damaged door seals which have gone unnoticed.

Ordinary fin or brush seals simply will not do the job of blocking sound from passing through the gaps around the door so Norseal supplies a range of acoustic seals solutions including its feature-packed Complete Sealing System which provides smoke and draft protection as well as acoustic insulation around the full perimeter of most hotel doors.

The Norseal NOR810 Automatic Drop Seal is fitted to the bottom of the door providing the most durable acoustic sealing profile to stand up to the wear and tear that hotel doors receive. It effectively provides smoke and draft protection and, uniquely, also offers sound reduction of 55dBRw.

It is self-levelling so it will cope with any kind of floor or frame combination and no tools are needed to adjust or deactivate the seal. The seal also complies with the requirements of British Standard BS476: Part 22 and has a wealth of acoustic data as evidence of its competent sound attenuation properties.

Norseal also supplies a full range of acoustic perimeter seals that filling the air gaps that create sound leaks around the head and jambs of the doorset. They also stop smoke, light and dust permeating the gap. Norseal can provide either retro-fit or rout-in acoustic perimeter seals to suit any hotel door.

Part of the European Athmer Group, Norseal is the leading provider of specialist door seal solutions, plus a wide range of ancillary door products. The company has a long track record of innovation, developing products which meet and exceed the latest industry standards for fire and smoke protection, acoustic properties, accessibility and thermal insulation.

Products are backed by a qualified and experienced technical team offering advice and guidance on all aspects of intumescent and acoustic seals. As well as its core range of seals, Norseal supply a wide range of supplementary door products including fire-rated glazing, electrical and plumbing solutions, fire rated ventilation, letter plates, door viewers, threshold plates, weather seals, and finger protection products.
