ORION ICE Keeping Criminals in the Cold

VBH Marketing Manager Gary Gleeson
tells us about the company’s product of the moment – the ORION ICE® 3 star profile cylinder...

VBH (GB) has a long history throughout our 44 years of trading of providing the market with a line of top quality profile cylinders. They have all been immensely popular, and the latest in that line, ORION ICE by greenteQ, is proving to be no exception.

ORION ICE is fully tested and accredited to the latest revision to the TS007 Kitemark, TS007-1:2024, and is recognised by Secured by Design as a Police Preferred Specification.

It is rated as a 3 star cylinder, offering full protection against thermal (freeze) attack, glue attack, snapping, bumping, drilling and picking without the need of supplementary hardware.

The name ICE not only reflects the freeze attack element of the 2024 revision’s test criteria, but is also an acronym for In Case of Emergency, signalling the cylinder’s protective credentials. ORION ICE really does keep criminals out in the cold!

ORION ICE builds on the success of the original greenteQ Orion cylinder, which has proven to be immensely popular with fabricators, installers, locksmiths and, of course, the general public since its own launch in 2020.

VBH offers the proteQ10 guarantee on the snap element of ORION ICE. The guarantee promises to pay £5000 in compensation direct to the homeowner in the event that a break in proves successful as a direct of the ORION ICE profile cylinder being snapped from outside when it is fitted within a closed and locked door.

Moving away from the security and safety aspects of ORION ICE, each cylinder is supplied with five keys as standard, which is very well received by homeowners as it reduces their need to cut additional keys.

ORION ICE is available in nickel and brass finishes, in key/key, thumbturn and keyed alike variants. The thumbturn features a push button that will override the interlock that is activated when the cylinder is snapped at its sacrificial break point.

The interlock protects the cylinder against manipulation and further damage from outside. By pushing the button, inhabitants inside the building are able to exit safely in the event of an emergency. ORION ICE is both secure and safe. The same result is achieved on a standard key/key cylinder by simply turning the internal key through 360°.

ORION ICE is the latest addition to VBH’s schedule of SBD approved hardware, joining products such as the greenteQ Alpha door handle, greenteQ Velocity door hinge and a wide choice of door locks from respected manufacturers including Avantis and Yale.

The schedule also features a wide range of hardware for windows and sliding doors from brands including greenteQ, AGB, Roto, Yale, Securistyle and Avantis. Specifiers, fabricators and installers have a full basket of SBD approved products at their fingertips when they source their hardware from VBH.

Further information on ORION ICE, Velocity or any other product can be found at www.vbhgb.com or by emailing info@vbhgb.com

ASSA ABLOY is delighted to announce the expansion of its enhanced UK test centre – UKAS-accredited in recognition of its commitment to the very highest testing standards.

Now spanning 691 square metres, Heywood Williams Components Limited trading as ‘ASSA ABLOY Test Centre’ has increased testing capability within its facilities. This enables it to offer enhanced capacity and a smoother workflow, providing customers with quicker results alongside complete confidence that their products are being rigorously assessed.

ASSA ABLOY promises to provide all test reports and certificates within two weeks of a successful test, highlighting its dedication to delivering market-leading service to customers.

100% independent testing

Fully independent, secure, and confidential, the facility welcomes the products of all external customers and offers a comprehensive range of tests. These include PAS 24 enhanced security testing for doorsets, BS EN 1670 corrosion resistance for doorsets, and BS 6375-1 weathertightness.

The efficient testing processes in place and increased capacity, mean quicker results and reporting. Each test serves to validate the security and durability of the product in question, ensuring they meet the relevant standards while improving their performance and reliability.

In addition, real-time test-viewing is available for customers who wish to observe tests in dedicated viewing areas; there is an on-site training room for collaborations and presentations; and ASSA ABLOY’s technical services are on-hand to advise on any adjustments and improvements that may be needed to advise compliance.

Staff Cooke, Technical Director at ASSA ABLOY, comments: “We’re thrilled to be opening our expanded Test Centre, now with UKAS accreditation to give our customers absolute assurance that our testing meets strict, nationally recognised standards. Unlike generalist centres that may switch from one type of test to the next, our team understands what matters when setting up and assessing windows and doors—right down to the details that can affect performance. This gives UK manufacturers everything they need to innovate and produce the best compliant security and safety products they can.”

The expanded ASSA ABLOY Test Centre is one of the first ASSA ABLOY sites to fully reflect ASSA ABLOY’s new 2026 identity, featuring a clean, modern aesthetic and enhanced customer-journeys designed around clarity, innovation, and trust.

Hörmann Truedor Roadshows Showcase Installer Growth Opportunities

Hörmann Truedor has successfully completed a series of roadshows across the UK, designed to demonstrate how entrance door installers can unlock new business growth through its composite door offering and comprehensive dealer support package.

Held as informal early morning events, the roadshows brought together installers over coffee and breakfast to explore opportunities to expand their product portfolios. The Hörmann Truedor team were on hand to outline how the range of UK-manufactured composite doors, backed by Hörmann’s engineering expertise, strong brand reputation and nationwide infrastructure, can provide a high-quality, consumer-focused addition to existing offerings.

A key highlight of the events was the introduction of Hörmann’s latest consumer marketing initiative, Hörmann Street. This targeted social media campaign, inspired by popular UK soap operas, features a fictional street and a cast of recurring characters navigating everyday drama, relationships and suspense. Each episode subtly integrates the features and benefits of Hörmann Truedor composite doors, aiming to drive traffic to the company’s website and generate genuine homeowner enquiries.

Attendees were given an exclusive preview of the campaign, which received an overwhelmingly positive response. Installers praised both the creativity and execution, recognising its potential to engage homeowners and support lead generation.

Hörmann confirmed that all enquiries generated through the campaign will be directed to approved dealers via its new online Installer Finder, offering installers a clear commercial advantage. To help maximise conversion rates, the company has also implemented a suite of practical sales tools and support, including an advanced online Door Designer, product training, marketing resources and ongoing technical assistance.

In addition to the long-term growth potential, installers attending the roadshows were offered a range of launch incentives, including a £1,500 door voucher package, a 750-point sign-up bonus for the Hörmann Rewards programme and free access to the Door Designer for the first year.

Overall, the roadshows provided installers with a concise and engaging introduction to partnering with Hörmann Truedor, highlighting how the company can help drive demand, attract new customers and increase profitability within the composite door sector.

Comp Door Goes ‘Black to Basics’ with Launch of New Black Outerframe

The move reflects a clear shift in homeowner preferences over recent years, with black emerging as one of the most on trend finishes in both contemporary and traditional properties. By introducing a fully stocked black outerframe, Comp Door is enabling installers to deliver a complete colour-matched solution without the need to compromise on contrasting frame options.

Available to order now, the new outerframe can be specified in both white on black and black on black configurations and is offered across both chamfered and sculptured profile systems, giving installers full flexibility regardless of project style. Importantly, the new black outerframe is also available on Stable and French Doors, supporting a consistent aesthetic across wider entrance door installations.

Richard Diliberto, Sales Director at Comp Door commented, “We’ve seen black grow steadily in popularity over the last few years, moving from a niche choice to something much more mainstream. Homeowners are increasingly looking for a fully coordinated finish, and that includes the frame as well as the door.”

While darker door colours such as anthracite grey and black have long been popular, frame options have historically required a degree of compromise, often pairing bold door colours with lighter or contrasting surrounds. The introduction of a dedicated black outerframe removes that limitation, allowing installers to deliver a more premium, design-led finish.

“This is about giving installers what they’ve been asking for; more choice, better alignment with current trends, and something they can get quickly,” Richard continues, “By stocking black as a standard outerframe option, we’re making it easier to meet customer expectations without extending lead times or complicating the specification process.

“Black is no longer a statement, it’s become a staple. This launch means there’s no need to compromise on the overall look. Installers can now offer a fully matching solution that meets the expectations of today’s homeowner.”

With the exclusion of arched frames, the new black outerframe is available to order immediately across the Comp Door range.

Hörmann Delivers a Complete Door Solution – Inside and Out

A contemporary renovation project in Leicestershire has been completed with the installation of a comprehensive suite of high-quality residential doors from Hörmann UK, showcasing the brand’s ability to deliver cohesive solutions both externally and internally...

The family home features a Hörmann sectional garage door and aluminium entrance door, complemented inside by a range of side-hinged, pocket, and fire doors. Carefully selected high-specification materials and contemporary finishes have been used throughout, ensuring a seamless match with the property’s modern architectural aesthetic and premium interior design.

Purchased by the current owners in 2023, the property came with planning permission already in place for a substantial extension. Building on this, the owners refined the scheme with a number of personal adjustments and selected Hörmann as their door partner of choice. Initially drawn to Hörmann’s sectional garage doors, they subsequently explored the wider range of entrance and internal doors, recognising a portfolio that aligned seamlessly with their ambition to deliver high-quality, modern solutions throughout the home.

Construction commenced in Autumn 2024, with all the internal and external doors supplied and fitted by Hörmann Partner Standard installer A S Doors of Melton Mowbary. The renovation was completed in time for Christmas 2025, delivering a stylish and cohesive finish both inside and out.

Externally, the property features a Hörmann LPU42 double-sized sectional garage door, designed with a 42mm thick door leaf that delivers excellent thermal efficiency—making it an ideal choice for the integrated garage. For added convenience and security, the door is fully automated with a Hörmann Supramatic P motor, operated by two hand transmitters. The door is finished in elegant Silkgrain, perfectly complementing the home’s modern architectural style, while the Agate grey (RAL 7038) colour harmonises seamlessly with the external cladding and overall material palette of the property.

A Hörmann ThermoSafe high-performance aluminium entrance door with a glazed side panel was selected to complement and match the style and premium finish of the sectional garage door. The door features a 73mm thick leaf, delivering excellent thermal efficiency with Thermosafe doors being able to achieve U-values as low as 0.8 W/(m²·K).

Equipped with the latest multi-point locking systems, it provides enhanced security and peace of mind against forced entry and achieves acoustic insulation of 30dB. To harmonise with the garage door and the home’s exterior aesthetic, the entrance door is finished in a silk matt Agate grey on both sides and features modern polished stainless-steel handles and concealed hinges for a flawless, contemporary finish.

Internally, the project was completed with a total of 12 Hörmann ProLine Duradecor doors, including nine side-hinged, two pocket, and a 30-minute fire door connecting the integral garage to the living area of the house. Constructed from high-quality timber materials with a vibrant, textured laminated surface, the doors deliver a clean, sophisticated finish that complements the home’s modern interior design.

The flush-fitted doors are finished in Salt Oak, providing a natural woodgrain texture that is both visually appealing and low-maintenance. The owners selected this colour to harmonise with the interior’s subtle tones and natural finishes, creating a cohesive and contemporary living environment. Supplied as complete door sets, the Hörmann interior doors are quick and easy to install, with all locks, handles, and hinges pre-routed. They fit seamlessly within the door aperture without drilling or screws, require no painting or decorating, and can even be installed as a ‘last-fit’ after carpets and flooring are laid, making them an ideal choice for modern builds and renovations.

Reflecting on the project, the homeowner commented, "This was an exciting project, and while we were already familiar with Hörmann garage doors, we hadn’t previously considered them for entrance and internal doors. From the outset, we worked closely with Adam at A S Doors, who guided us through the entire process and was invaluable in helping us select the right doors for our home.

"Visiting Hörmann’s headquarters in Coalville and speaking directly with their in-house experts further strengthened our confidence in the products and the team behind them.

"Sustainability was a key priority for us. Alongside features such as solar panels, a heat pump and underfloor heating, the Hörmann garage and entrance doors aligned perfectly with our goals thanks to their excellent thermal efficiency. It was also important to us that all the doors, both internal and external, are CO₂-neutral.

"While the build itself was occasionally stressful, having a strong team that worked really well with each other made all the difference. A S Doors worked seamlessly with our builder, and a shared commitment to quality is reflected in the final result. Now that we’re fully moved in, we can truly enjoy a home that not only looks fantastic but also provides a secure and sustainable future.”

New extra feature for DIJ Spring 2026: Why Quality Matters

Quality underpins every decision in the industrial door, shutter, and garage door sector: from material selection and fabrication methods to installation, service, and long-term performance. For Spring 2026, Door Industry Journal is introducing Why Quality Matters, a brand-new premium supplement and the first in a new series of exclusive DIJ features launching throughout the year.

Designed to set the tone for what follows, Why Quality Matters will spotlight manufacturers, suppliers, and installers who place quality at the heart of their business. This isn’t about shortcuts or box-ticking; it’s about craftsmanship, consistency, accountability, and pride in delivering excellence across products, people, and processes.

As the inaugural feature in this new series, participants will have the opportunity to be first to shape the conversation and be associated with the launch of a major new DIJ initiative. The supplement will explore how businesses define and uphold quality internally, from leadership and company culture through to the factory floor and installation teams. It will examine the role of materials, fabrication processes, testing, and attention to detail in delivering doors and shutters built for demanding commercial environments.

Quality doesn’t stop at production. The feature will also highlight best practice in installation, aftersales support, training, compliance, and maintenance: recognising the teams behind the products, from skilled fabricators and engineers to installers, service professionals, and customer support staff.

To protect the focus and premium positioning of the supplement, participation is strictly limited. While a number of companies will be approached directly by the DIJ team, a small number of places are available on a first come, first served basis, subject to alignment with the ethos of the feature.

If quality genuinely drives your business and you’d like to be among the first companies featured in this new DIJ series, now is the time to get involved. Once places are filled, no further opportunities will be available.

A Full House from Hörmann

Hörmann UK has recently completed a full-house door installation at a private residence in Whitwick, Coalville – showcasing the brand's wide-ranging capabilities in supplying high-quality garage and entrance doors.

The installation comprises a fully automated RenoMatic sectional garage door, a Thermo 46 steel front door with glazed side panel, and two Hörmann Truedor composite back doors – all supplied in a sleek and contemporary Anthracite grey to deliver a unified and sophisticated exterior finish.

At the heart of the property is the garage which is fitted with a Hörmann RenoMatic L-ribbed sectional door, with a Slategrain surface finish. Part of Hörmann’s competitively priced RenoMatic range, this door combines the robust build quality of the LPU 42 sectional door with the performance of a SupraMatic operator – allowing for rapid opening speeds of up to 25cm per second.

For enhanced convenience and control, the operator also supports smart connectivity via a Smart phone or the Hörmann BlueSecur app. As standard*, all RenoMatic garage doors are supplied with Secured by Design accreditation, providing homeowners with added peace of mind.

The front entrance features a high-performance Thermo 46 steel door complete with a contemporary stainless steel bar handle and sandblasted glazed panel. Built for maximum security and thermal efficiency, the Thermo 46 door offers a 46mm thick insulated leaf, set within a durable aluminium frame – an ideal choice for energy-conscious homeowners.

Completing the installation are two composite doors, one fitted as the back door in the main house and the other as a side door for the garage. Both doors are from the Hörmann Truedor range in the Conwy style, finished with matching Anthracite grey frames to continue the home’s cohesive aesthetic.

Yale security upgrade for Fort’s range of garage doors with multi-point locking

Fort Doors has teamed up with Yale and Mila Hardware to develop a security upgrade for all Pro 20 Insulated Side Hinged garage doors.

To celebrate, Fort Doors is offering Yale Lockmaster three-point locking on all Pro 20 Insulated doors free of charge until March 2026. Each door will be fitted with Yale’s Lockmaster 28mm multi-point door lock and KM Series 1-Star Cylinder, supplied by leading hardware specialist Mila, a long-term partner of Fort Doors.

Karen Paskin, Area Sales Manager at Mila, adds:
“This new partnership combines Fort Doors’ advanced engineering with our unrivalled security expertise, setting a new standard for garage doors. We’re proud to see Yale and Mila hardware at the heart of Fort’s garage doors featuring a multi-point lock, and we look forward to working closely with Fort Doors on similar projects in the future.”

The Yale Lockmaster 28mm U-Channel Multi-Point Lock features signature hooks and anti-lift pins for exceptional strength and protection. It has been tested to 100,000 cycles, is PAS 24 certified, and is proudly made in Britain.

Complementing this, the Yale KM series 1-Star Cylinder is British Kitemarked TS007 1-Star accredited, offering advanced protection with an anti-snap sacrificial front section and defences against picking, bumping, and drilling.

Both components carry a 10-year mechanical guarantee, ensuring long-lasting performance and peace of mind.

In addition, the Mila Supa™ Stainless Steel Handle – crafted from premium stainless steel – lends an elegant, modern design to the garage door. Independently tested beyond industry standards and backed by a 25-year guarantee, the Supa™ range ensures lasting weather resistance and effortless performance.

Lee Moon, Managing Director at Fort Doors, comments: “Our new Pro range has proved extremely popular, and this collaboration to offer a respected brand-named security locking system from Mila and Yale represents a significant leap in quality from a brand you can trust. Along with outstanding insulation, weather resistance, durability and ease of operation, the range now offers formidable security too, thanks to Mila’s upgrade to the market-leading Yale components.”

Performance Doorset Solutions and UAP Host DOCO Awareness Day at Littleborough Site

Leading doorset company Performance Doorset Solutions (PDS), in collaboration with hardware manufacturer UAP, recently hosted a successful Awareness Day for Police Designing Out Crime Officers (DOCOs) at the PDS site in Littleborough, Lancashire.

The event brought together representatives of the two companies with DOCOs from several police forces, including Greater Manchester, Cheshire, West Yorkshire and Lancashire, and was attended by Secured by Design (SBD) Development Officer Hazel Goss. The day served as a valuable opportunity to showcase cutting-edge doorset and hardware security technologies to the specialist officers, whose role is critical in influencing secure design across the built environment.

Attendees were welcomed by the teams at PDS and UAP who each gave introductions to their companies, before diving into a series of product demonstrations and discussions around evolving security threats and innovation. Later in the day, the DOCOs and other assembled guests had the opportunity to tour the PDS facility, learning more about the company’s products and the manufacturing process from raw timber to bespoke doorsets.

Kevin Pritchard, UAP, presented the company’s latest advancements in cylinder security, including a live demonstration of attack methods outlined in the new PAS24:2022+A1:2024 standard. Kevin highlighted how UAP’s new 3-Star Freeze Guard Cylinder, the first to gain Kitemark certification under the updated standard, effectively neutralises threats such as cylinder freezing - a method increasingly used in targeted attacks.

Hazel Goss, Secured by Design, said: “I want to thank PDS for an excellent day, it was a packed full event, with a classroom session, factory tour and an extra bonus of live demonstrations of lock attacks delivered by UAP, another SBD member company. It was a very successful day and I know the DOCOs and I who attended all left knowing a lot more than before, which is why we hold these ‘Awareness Days’.”

Kerri Ellis, Ben Davies, and Gary Greaves represented PDS, while Elliott Dawson and Kevin Pritchard represented UAP, contributing to what was widely regarded as an engaging and productive event.
