Makita Nails it Again with its Latest Launch

Makita has added a new 18V LXT Framing Nailer to its range of high-performance cordless tools.

The new DBN900 offers significant advantages over pneumatic and gas nailers including improved ease of use and greater working flexibility.

The DBN900 18V LXT Framing Nailer, explicitly designed for first-fix framing applications, can be used in the same way as a pneumatic nailer but without the additional setup time, complication and restriction of a compressor and air lines.

In addition, unlike gas nailers, the DBN900 has no additional consumables, reducing the cost and inconvenience of replacing the cartridges.

The latest addition to Makita’s range of cordless nailers, the DBN900 is compatible with clipped-head nails between 50 mm and 90 mm and nail gauges between 2.9 mm and 3.3 mm. Its magazine will accommodate up to 58 collated nails and incorporates a quick and easy reloading mechanism.

The inspection window makes it simple to check the number of nails remaining. It also features a variable drive depth, with the required adjustment made using the easy-to-use dial on the nose of the tool.

Furthermore, the DBN900 features two operation modes.

In sequential actuation mode, it drives a nail each time the trigger is pressed, while the contact actuation mode allows continuous nailing, with a nail driven every time the tip is pressed to the material for as long as the trigger is held.

A Makita 6.0Ah LXT battery (BL1860B) can drive up to 1000 nails on a full battery charge at a rate of up to two nails per second.

The DBN900 has been designed for both convenience and enhanced safety.

The anti-slip nose of the tool makes working on angled materials easier and more accurate, while the LED job light with pre-glow and after-glow functions improves the visibility of the work surface.

It features both a rafter hook and belt hook, allowing it to be hung on ladders, scaffolding and timbers or clipped to the user, keeping it close at hand.

The DBN900 also includes both an anti-dry-firing mechanism, which activates before the last nails in the magazine are driven to prevent missed nails, and an anti-restart function to prevent accidental activation.

Kevin Brannigan, Marketing Manager at Makita UK said:

“Our new, long awaited DBN900 18V LXT framing nailer is an excellent alternative to the conventional pneumatic or gas nailers and has been engineered to streamline framing tasks and similar first fix work.

“It is easy to use, even in restricted spaces and offers far greater flexibility when compared to traditional pneumatic tools.”

Allegion UK Promotes Greater Installation Standards with New Instructional Video Series

Allegion UK, a pioneer in fire safety hardware and manufacturer of ‘Briton’ door controls, has expanded its library of customer support materials with new installation videos for its highly popular 2003 and 2003V surface-mounted door closers.

Allegion’s newly published video series provides customers with an illustrative set of installation and adjustment instructions for door mount pull, transom mount and parallel arm mount fixings across its leading product lines.

With each video, Allegion aims to improve the accuracy of door closer fittings by delivering a comprehensive walkthrough of the 2003 and 2003V installation process, from the product unboxing to its fixing methods and measurements, as illustrated by Briton’s unique self-adhesive Accufit template system.

With plans to further develop the video library to include step-by-step installation guidance for the Briton 2130B overhead closer, Allegion will shortly complete a suite of digitally curated support materials, which includes technical datasheets, product certifications, fixing templates and downloadable service and maintenance instructions.

Speaking on the amibitions behind the new installation videos, John Fairhurst, business development manager at Allegion UK, commented:

“Where the safety of buildings and their occupants is reliant on fire door hardware, we too often identify inaccurate installation as a leading cause for inadequate product performance.

“In order to prioritise fire safety, we believe it’s crucial to eliminate the issues assocated with incorrect hardware installation, and in adding short and engaging video content to our resources, we can further support our customers in this area.

“Driven by our ongoing commitment to improving fire door safety standards, and following the success of our updated Accufit system for the 2003 and 2003V, we have also developed a new Accufit template for the Briton 2130B, which is available now and will feature in a standalone series of installation videos set to launch later this year.”

To view the latest series of installation support videos from Allegion UK, visit: https://briton.co.uk/en/documentlibrary/installation_videos.html.

New Do Not Disturb electronic locks control privacy and enhance user comfort

Codelocks has extended its CL5000 electronic lock range with new Do Not Disturb (DND) models.

The new CL5000 DND electronic locks prevent interruptions and unwanted access to locations where controlled privacy is important for people’s comfort and confidence.

The new CL5000 DND electronic locks are particularly suitable for private spaces such as meeting rooms, consulting rooms, toilets and changing rooms.

The locks Do Not Disturb feature is activated by pressing the red button on the inside of the lock.

When activated, only the Master and Sub-Master codes can unlock the door, ensuring no interruptions or unwanted access.

If a standard User Code is entered, the lock’s LEDs will flash, an alert will beep, and the door will remain locked. To cancel DND functionality the blue button is pressed, or the inside lever handle is turned.

Jo Milne-Rowe, Managing Director at Codelocks said:

“Privacy and confidence have become key priorities for organisations controlling access to their varied spaces.

“The Do Not Disturb capability creates more confidence and comfort for people, with simple operation and clear LED indication of its status.

“This makes it ideal for spaces where people may feel vulnerable to intrusion, such as changing rooms, toilets, physical therapy rooms, and prayer rooms.

“These are spaces where stress-free experiences are really important, and our CL5000 DND lock prevents people worrying about interruptions and awkward encounters, letting them focus on their well-being instead.”

The CL5000 DND features Codelocks NetCode® Technology which allows the facility owner or manager to set a date and time-sensitive code remotely via the Codelocks Connect Portal. The user receives a NetCode® via email or text for their set duration.

The two models within the range are the CL5010 DND Mortice Latch and the CL5020 DND Mortice Lock.

Both are suitable for high-traffic areas, are supplied with CE marked latch or lock, and are available in brushed steel or solid black finishes.

The CL5000 DND can be fitted with a Codelocks FireKit to ensure compliance with 30-and 60-minute fire doors standards and is tested in accordance with BS EN 1634-1* for even greater peace of mind.

Easy to install and program, Codelocks’ CL5000 DND electronic lock generates up to 100,000 openings from 4 x AA batteries, with a low battery warning when batteries need replacing.

If batteries fail before they can be replaced, access is gained with the Key Override only.

For more information on CL5000 DND electronic locks, please visit https://www.codelocks.co.uk/cl5000-dnd

*Codelocks FireKit can be fitted to latch and lock models for 30-or 60-minute fire doors. Tested in accordance with BS EN 1634-1.

Collecting Cars Flies the Flag at RĂ©tromobile to Kick Off the European Speed Collection Auction

Collecting Cars is returning to RĂ©tromobile Paris (5-9 February) with a star-studded stand, featuring a physical preview of its upcoming European Speed Collection online auction (2-9 February).

With an estimated total collection value exceeding €3 million, The European Speed Collection represents the bookends of the collector car wish list, from performance heroes to modern-day sensations and rally greats.

Headlining the online auction is a 2014 Porsche 918 Spyder. Coming to the sale from its first and only owner, who has used the car for just 930 km, it is presented in near-new condition, finished in Liquid Metal Silver over a striking and collectable Mocha Brown / Orange leather interior.

Reserving its place in the history books as one of the original ‘Holy Trinity’ hypercars, the Porsche 918 Spyder is a standout of its time, and is likely to sell for €1,500,000-1,700,000.

It sits alongside a fellow limited-edition great – a 2009 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 S Edition Roadster.

With just 2,770 km from new, and being one of just 150 examples built to commemorate the late, great, Sir Stirling Moss’ 1955 Mille Miglia victory, it’s a rare sight to see on a public auction; especially in its Crystal Palladium Grey over 300 SL Red specification.

The 722 S Edition Roadster is likely to sell for €625,000-700,000.

Previewed at the upcoming RĂ©tromobile event will be another highlight from The European Speed Collection: a 1994 Porsche 911 (964) Turbo 3.6.

Offered at no reserve, this car is finished in a desirable Midnight Blue / Black colour combination and has been with its last owner for 24 years.

Instantly familiar to generations of enthusiasts thanks to the model’s starring role alongside Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in the 1995 film Bad Boys, the 3.6 Turbo is the rarest of the 964 generation, and holds huge motorsport pedigree, as the 3.6-litre engine proved itself in the Carrera Cup.

Distinguished by its chassis and enhanced with a lowered stance, updated callipers and badging, the car also features a speedometer that tops out at 320 km/h. This example is one of just 1,437 produced.

Joining The European Speed Collection is a 1999 Ferrari 360 Modena with the highly sought-after manual transmission, a 2008 Wiesmann MF4 GT, plus a 2010 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG with just 799 km from new.

Here is the complete European Speed Collection highlight list. The auction commences on 2 February and concludes on 9 February:

Headquartered in London with a strong presence across continental Europe, Collecting Cars has experienced remarkable growth since its debut at RĂ©tromobile in 2019.

To date, the online auction platform has sold over 18,500 consignments, expanded to a global team of 100+, and generated more than $1 billion in seller revenue.

Recent highlights include the first public sale of an Aston Martin Valour for €1,650,500 and the first auctioned Porsche 911 (992-gen) S/T, which sold for £346,500 on 28 January 2025.

W20 Doors and Windows Made Clear with SWA’s new Fact Sheet

The Steel Window Association has developed a series of informative fact sheets; all can be viewed and downloaded here. The latest is the W20 which has been compiled by the industry’s experts.

Focusing on the versatility, and evolution, of the established W20 system, the new fact sheet addresses current building regulations and helps the many companies in the steel window industry provide the very best modern service in the UK’s fast-moving construction industry. Click here to download the W20 fact sheet.

SWA members have exclusive access to a range of collectively developed energy- rated systems which are compliant with building regulations and that are recognised by the British Fenestration Rating Council (BFRC).

The SWA also works in cooperation with both the British and European standards agencies, window research bodies and other influential organisations; including FENSA and as mentioned above, the Construction Products Association and the Glass & Glazing Federation.

Members of the Steel Window Association offer a UK wide service for the refurbishment, repair and replacement of various types of old metal windows, doors and screens, as well as being able to manufacture new fenestration which fully meets the requirements of the building regulations.
