Suited Door Hardware Range Pulls out all the Stops

Everyone knows that first impressions count, and this also applies to property. Keeping the outside of a home neat and tidy not only provides a nice place for homeowners to come back to, but it can also add up to 3% to the property price*.

One of the ways this can be achieved is through coordinated door hardware. The suited door hardware collection from ARRONE, a HOPPE brand, has been designed to have mass appeal and provide high-quality ironmongery in a variety of finishes. The range will help door manufacturers easily source high-quality ironmongery that complements both contemporary and traditional door designs, making it ideal for use in both new build and refurbishment projects.

Modern times

There are five variations of pull handles included in the ARRONE range providing the perfect contemporary twist for any home. Pull handles have proved a popular choice for many homeowners, with some stockists reporting that sales have doubled in the past year.

The AR3626 entrance door pull handle comes in three different fixing distance options: 600mm, 1200mm and 1800mm. Depending on the fixing distance, bolt fix or back-to-back fixing options to suit timber doors are available. The elegant pillar fix design comes in a satin stainless steel finish which is sure to complete the look.

It’s all in the finish

Selected ARRONE door handles, knockers, letter plates and numerals are also part of the suited range and are available in seven finishes – polished brass effect, polished chrome effect, satin chrome effect, anthracite grey, graphite, black and white.

John Prosser, marketing services at HOPPE (UK), said:
“While darker greys and metallic finishes, like stainless-steel effect and polished chrome, continue to be popular, we are also seeing a revival of both black and white hardware on doors across the UK.
“We want to make it as easy as possible for our customers to keep their product offering in line with the latest design trends without compromising on the quality and functionality of the product.”
Getting a handle on things

The AR7550 lever handle has a 10.7mm backplate depth, so design changes to the door itself should not be needed if switching to the ARRONE handle from an alternative product.

Standardising the size of the back plate has been an important consideration with the long backplate fixing designed to cover the majority of lock applications.

Commitment to quality

Quality is synonymous with HOPPE brands because its products are tested to ensure flawless operation. These tests closely reflect the everyday knocks hardware has to take and extend beyond the requirements of performance standards such as BS EN 1906.

The ARRONE AR7550 handle has been tested to 200,000 cycles and has a 10-year mechanical operation guarantee, as long as assembly and maintenance guidelines are followed. It has also achieved the highest corrosion resistance grade under BS EN 1670 making it suitable for use in exposed marine atmospheres.

For more information on the suited range, download the Kerb Appeal Made Easy with ARRONE brochure or call 01902 484 400.

JDUK Door Systems and Alunet Systems have announced the appointment of Steve Kendrick as Managing Director, to allow Steve Hudson, Group CEO, to spend more time across the other businesses in the group, as it nears an annual turnover of £50m.

Steve Kendrick is already well-known in the aluminium industry through his previous roles and has a wealth of experience in sales, marketing and product development.

His remit will be to improve processes and efficiencies, expand customer bases and ensure new products are launched effectively.

JDUK and Alunet rebranded last year to allow them to focus on sourcing top-quality products from the best manufacturers around the world.

This in turn highlighted new products and areas of opportunity for both businesses, such as pergolas and awnings and a new competitively priced sectional garage door.

Over the coming months, Steve Kendrick will be instrumental in bringing these and other planned launches to market, working with new suppliers to improve lead times.

Steve Kendrick said:

“I'm really excited to join Steve Hudson and his team and looking forward to growing the businesses with the teams here at JDUK and Alunet.

“We’ve got so many exciting product launches and I hope my experience and my background will benefit how we grow and develop within the market.
“We've got a fantastic set-up in terms of people, and we're just scratching the surface in terms of our customer base.”

Steve Hudson said:

“We’ve had our challenges over the last 12 months, and it's a great testament to the hard work and dedication of my team that we’ve come out the other side in a strong position.

“It's perfect timing now for Steve, to bring some new ideas, experience, energy and humility to the companies to drive them faster than I would have been able to do.
“My future role will be to focus on the development of all companies in the group, however, I will always have a soft spot for JDUK and Alunet.”

You can watch Steve Kendrick’s full interview at https://youtu.be/_Tu6baAVryQ.

The countdown starts now: All-electric Nissan Ariya to go from Pole to Pole

With only one month until the Nissan Ariya undertakes the world's first all-electric driving adventure from the magnetic North Pole to the South Pole, the team in charge reveals why this car is the perfect match.

Nissan, in partnership with British adventurer, Chris Ramsey and the daring Pole to Pole expedition team will travel over 27,000 kilometres across several regions and continents with predicted temperatures ranging from -30⁰C to 30⁰C in a modified Nissan Ariya e-4ORCE.

Commencing March 2023, the expedition will see Chris and his wife, Julie Ramsey become the first people to drive from pole to pole in a vehicle of any type, as they make their way from the Arctic, through North, Central and South America, before crossing to Antarctica.

The route will negotiate some of the world's most extreme, brutal, and yet beautiful scenery. From snow-covered glacial landscapes to treacherous mountain climbs and vast desert dunes; this Pole to Pole expedition, driven in the Nissan Ariya will take followers through breathtaking and uncharted territory.

The Ramsey’s’ Pole to Pole expedition is aligned with Nissan’s Ambition 2030 and the company’s commitment to sustainability. As part of its long-term vision to empower mobility and beyond, Nissan aims to deliver exciting vehicles and technologies that empower customer journeys and society.

In preparation for the freezing Arctic and Antarctic conditions, Ramsey's expedition Nissan Ariya e-4ORCE will be modified with a custom rugged exterior fit for the trek across extreme terrain with upgraded wheels, tyres and suspension.

Epic driving adventure to cover over 27,000 kilometres through several regions

e-4ORCE is Nissan's most advanced all-wheel control technology that accurately manages power output and braking performance for smoothness and stability. The system enhances driver confidence by tracing the intended driving line over a variety of road surfaces, including wet and snowy roads, without the need for changes in driving style or input.

As a true reminder of the sheer unpredictability and magnitude of the task ahead, the exact set-off date for the Ramsey's will be determined on the day. Challenging and everchanging weather conditions combined with harsh, uncertain driving conditions, during the week of the 20th March means there will be an 'on the day' decision to set off when conditions seem best. Join us as we countdown to expedition week and follow Chris and Julie’s adventure of a lifetime.

Bradbury Group strengthens full product offering with PAS24 door range

Bradbury Group is excited to announce the launch of M2M+24, a bespoke steel door meeting the industry standard PAS24 certification.

The made-to-measure doorset, which is approved by Secured by Design, is a welcome addition to the already comprehensive package available within the group and follows the recent addition of CE external fire certification to the existing M2M product range.

M2M+24 is available with a variety of options as standard, including vision panels, louvres and letter box options, and comes with optional internal or external fire protection, although this restricts the hardware options available.

“There is a clear need for entry-level PAS-certified doors in our markets,” says Anil Patel, Sales and Marketing Director. “Our customers often require a range of doors, from standard non-rated doorsets to high security certified LPS SR4.

This latest launch means we can service a full project, from traditional steel doors to high-security, fire-rated doorsets. Additionally, the fire certification is something that makes it unique, ensuring the customer can meet the full needs of the project with just one door.”

What is PAS24 certification?

PAS24 is the minimum British security standard of testing for external security-rated doors. It measures the performance of doors against attack from an opportunist attacker. Each new door installed in a new building must meet this minimum standard, and it is becoming increasingly popular to replace existing doorsets with new doors meeting the standard.

Bradbury Group’s M2M+24 doorsets will ensure not only that security standards are met, but also that the building meets stringent fire regulations, through the harmonised standards BS EN 16034 and  BS EN 14351-1, allowing for PAS doors to be installed as fire doors both internally and externally.

What is next for Bradbury Group?
“We are currently testing our M2M+24 doors for panic hardware,” says Andy Edser, Technical Sales Director. “This will be available in the next couple of months and we will then be focusing on making improvements to the options available on our fire-rated security doorsets."

UAP Welcomes Specialist Online Business to The Group

UAP, a specialist in locks and hardware for doors and windows, continues to expand with the purchase of an online business.

The acquisition of Maher London, which manufactures door hardware, fixings and decorating tools, is UAP’s second within the last two months.

In December 2022, UAP snapped up Security Hardware from Eurocell PLC adding domestic PVC-U door and windows hardware to its growing product portfolio.

Sold exclusively via online retailers, including Amazon, Maher London’s products are supplied under three brands - XFORT, Sequal and Renov8.

The deal builds on an existing relationship which has seen UAP supply door hardware products to Maher London over the last 3 years.

Bonnie Hodson, Chief Financial Officer of UAP, explains:

“We have seen Maher London rapidly grow and have been impressed by the team’s specialist knowledge of online retailing.

“This expertise will significantly strengthen UAP’s online presence, both in the UK and overseas and further broadens our product offering.

“Strategically, the acquisition means we can respond more effectively to the latest buying trends, which since the pandemic, have not only seen more consumers make online purchases, but tradespeople as well.”
Adnan Haruf, Director at Maher London said:

“My business partner, Hassan Jamil and myself built Maher London with a focus on offering our customers exceptional levels of service, quality and value.

“We have taken great pride in scaling up the company, especially the XFORT brand.

“Our ambition is to build XFORT’s reputation around the world and with the backing of the UAP group, we are confident we can do just that.
“Since working with UAP, we have benefited from the team’s experience, product range and buying power. We are excited to be part of the group and to see all our brands thrive.”

Maher London is the fourth company to join UAP within recent years.

Prior to acquiring Security Hardware in 2022, UAP purchased Newcastle-based Locking Systems in 2020 and Yorkshire-based Intelligent Hardware in 2019.

Continued Bonnie:

“We have an ambitious growth strategy which means we are proactively identifying complementary businesses to join our group.

“Our aim is to develop an unrivalled product range, ensuring we can meet the needs of a broad range of customers while prioritising quality and customer service.”

Pyramid Profiles and Pyramid Aluminium re-brand as Pyramid Group

To make life easier for customers buying both aluminium and PVCu, Pyramid Aluminium and Pyramid Profiles have joined their brands together as Pyramid Group.

Formed in response to the fast commercial growth of 2022, the re-brand has come off the back of the development and launch of a number of new products over the last 12 months.

Paul Bailey, Managing Director at Pyramid Group said:

“We want to bring together both sides of the business under one name in response to the significant growth in the number of customers buying both PVCu and aluminium from us last year, merging both brands under one name that installers can trust for all their glazing needs.

“Integrating both customer bases has been a big focus over the past year, and the Pyramid Group brand provides the perfect platform for an exciting year ahead, which includes new literature and product launches.”

The news comes at the same time as the Pyramid Group’s new website is launched, showcasing all the benefits of both their aluminium and PVCu products in one place.

Paul adds:

“Following the launch of our Purelight aluminium marketing support and securing membership to VEKA’s Independent Network last year, our new website is the latest investment we’ve taken to improve our level of service and support to help our customers make the most of opportunities and grow their businesses.”

Love is in the Air for JDUK Door Systems’ Exciting New Venture and Products

JDUK Door Systems asked customers to ‘feel the love’ this Valentine's Day for their newest venture… JDUK Outdoor Living!

Open days were held last week, to launch the company’s new pergola and awning products that will be sold under the new JD Outdoor Living brand, designed to open up new opportunities for existing customers and create wider appeal to attract new clients.

Attendees were also given the chance to meet the new Alunet and JDUK Managing Director, Steve Kendrick, as well as the first chance to see the new sectional garage door to be introduced by JDUK Door Systems, the Pro Plus.

EXCITING NEW CHAPTER

The co-founder of JDUK Outdoor Living, Hollie Sheldon, introduced the new JDUK Outdoor Living venture and the initial product offering to nearly 100 installers over 2 days.

She said:

“I'm excited to join the JDUK team to offer both new and existing customers our market-leading range of outdoor living products.

“Previously I have worked in both the garage door and outdoor living industry for around 7 years and seen massive growth in that time. So, I'm really excited for this new chapter.

“The 2 products we’ll be launching initially is the pergola and range of awnings. The beautiful pergola manufactured by Saxun is a wonderful addition to any garden.

“With up to 135-degree lath rotation, integrated draining systems and Bluetooth sound system. We will also be offering a wide range of awnings to suit many different applications.

“With three fabric collections to choose from, along with the addition of the environmentally friendly ‘GREEN’ fabric option. It really is exciting times ahead and we cannot wait to share our product range with you.”

OUTDOOR LIVING

Saxun has been established for 63 years and now operates in 70 different countries. With their expertise in the manufacture of products, coupled with sales and technical support offered by JDUK, it poses an impressive offer to installers looking to add pergolas and awnings to their range.

This will also include UK-based technical support and even assisted first fits, to ensure a smooth transition.

Pergolas are available in a massive choice of 300 colours. Laths are even fitted with a sun sensor and can rotate according to the direction of the sun, something homeowners are doubtless to love.

What’s more, waterproof drainage and rubber seals mean that the pergola area can be used in all weathers, something particularly useful in the UK climate.

And with the flexibility to bespoke design each installation to meet individual homeowners' needs, it truly is the must-have product for ultimate outdoor living.

Our awnings can be added to our pergolas or used as a standalone feature. Clever sensors on the awning will automatically retract the awning in high winds, achieving a class 3 rating for wind resistance and giving the homeowner peace of mind.

Easy maintenance and sustainability are also taken care of with ‘green’ fabric that not only converts carbon dioxide into oxygen but also kills 60% of fungus, ensuring it looks its best with minimal effort.

With such strong selling points and sales support, the future is looking bright for JDUK Outdoor Living’s clients.

AN ADDITIONAL SECTIONAL DOOR IN OUR RANGE!

And if that wasn’t enough to fill customers with confidence and optimism for the year ahead, Sales & Marketing Director, Jason Wade, went on to introduce the new sectional garage door product, Pro Plus.

Once again, JDUK has listened and responded to customer feedback by adding a very competitively priced door specifically aimed at the most popular door sizes, designs and finishes, with no compromise on quality, to complement its existing range of Wisniowski sectional doors.

Aesthetically it is every bit a residential garage door, both inside and out. Ideal for one-person installs, it comes flat-packed so is easy to handle.

Pro Plus also comes with many other benefits that you’d expect from a premium product but without the premium price tag, such as adjustable ball bearing rollers, adjustable hanging straps, 40mm insulated panels, wheel guides for added protection, clip system for ease of installation and adjustable cable hook-up.

The headroom for front torsion installs is an impressive 130mm for doors up to 5 metres wide, including automation! And there are 2 types of automation to choose from, ‘Like It’ and Avanti.

CHOICE & OPTIONS

The Pro Plus is available in M Ribbed, L Ribbed and Georgian styles, in a range of 30 RAL colours, in either a woodgrain, smooth or sandgrain texture. Windows are also available to suit any panel design.

The acrylic external frame is supplied as standard in white. For frame and decorative inserts, choose the Georgian cross, diamond, square or diamond leaded.

As an optional upgrade, window frames can be colour coded to suit the door panel. Square and round aluminium frames are also available, and glazing is available as Clear or Smooth Opaque.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR GROWTH

The day concluded with a round-up of the other products JDUK offers, with the news that over 90% of its customer base had been retained since moving to new suppliers.

The Wisniowski double-leaf side hinged garage door is doing particularly well and set to do even better with the promise of a meaningful price reduction on the most popular DoorPro 45 and improved lead times down to just 5 weeks.

Actor, Sir Michael Caine’s first car, heads to auction

Michael Caine’s first car, a 1968 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow has a fascinating history

Iconic British actor, Sir Michael Caine CBE’s, first ever car, a 1968 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow Drophead Coupe with a fascinating history, is being offered for sale at auction on 15 March at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford.

The Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow heads to auction on 15 March

Having been treated to an extensive restoration by the current owner, Caine’s former car is now refinished in its original colour of Black.

One of just 506 Silver Shadow Two-Door Drophead Coupes that were hand built by Rolls-Royce’s in-house coachbuilder Mulliner Park Ward from 1967 – 1971, the car is estimated at between £100,000 - £150,000 in the auction hosted by H&H Classics.

The car is estimated £100,000 - £150,000

Damian Jones, Senior Motorcar Specialist, H&H Classics comments:

“Appearing in more than 160 films across seven decades, Sir Michael Caine is a true British icon, so it’s a pleasure to be able to offer his very first car for sale, which in itself is another great British classic.

“From its original purchase by Sir Michael, and its subsequent 43-year ownership by infamous Gasworks restauranteur, Jack Leach, the car’s history is truly captivating and one which I’m sure will delight and fascinate the new owner.”

In 1968, Caine wandered into the renowned Jack Barclay showroom on Berkeley Square, with a handwritten shopping list which read, “milk, bread, newspaper, cigarettes, Rolls-Royce.”

Unkempt and unshaven, Caine was ushered off the premises, so he journeyed to Mayfair’s other Rolls-Royce dealership, H.A. Fox on Dover Street, where he found the Silver Shadow which had been taken into stock after the playwright and screenwriter, Terence Rattigan, cancelled his order for it.

Having bought the car, despite not having his own driving licence, the actor found it was much cheaper to employ a chauffeur than pay the premium his insurers quoted should he decide to go down the ‘L-plate’ route.

The 35-year-old actor subsequently took great pleasure in being driven past the offending Jack Barclay salesman in his new car and flicking him a V-sign!

Less than two years later, the Silver Shadow was acquired by John Leonard Ernest Leach (Jack Leach), owner of the Gasworks restaurant in Fulham, which became a notorious hotspot for the rich and famous.

After Caine, the car was owned for 43 years by famous Gasworks restaurant owner, Jack Leach

A familiar sight on the Fulham and Kings roads for decades afterwards, Leach continued to own the car for the next 43-years until his death in 2013.

Jones adds:

“Personifying cool since the swinging sixties, Caine and the Silver Shadow remain instantly recognisable and widely admired.”

“So, to combine both of these in one fantastic motor car is incredibly rare indeed and we expect significant interest from fans around the world.”

The classic, collector and performance car auction takes place at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford on the 15 March, with viewing available on Tuesday 14 March. Bidding can be done in person, online or via telephone.

ADSA Joins TAF

ADSA – the Automatic Door Suppliers Association – has become a member of TAF – the Trade Association Forum which is the leading representative body for professional trade associations across the UK.

The move is intended to help ADSA become more involved in ‘bigger picture’ issues through TAF’s links with UK Government and industry leaders.

Said ADSA MD Ken Price:
“We are keen to be at the forefront of issues that affect the UK and the wider construction industry. TAF’s involvement with Government will help open doors and enable the voice of the automatic door industry be better heard by key decision makers and policy setters.”
TAF was founded in 1997, having been instigated by the then President of the Board of Trade, Michael Heseltine. It currently has around 130 members representing a diverse range of industries from railway and transport to jewellers and hairdressing. It recently joined forces with the Institute of Association Leadership to develop a leadership programme and resources for trade associations.
Added Ken: “There have been a number of critical reports and legislative changes which have affected the wider construction industry in recent times: the Hackett Report which led to the Building Safety Act, three PAS competency frameworks for principal designers and specifiers, principal contractors, and building safety and management. Being part of TAF, with access to key resources, will allow us to be more proactive and in turn, pass on benefits to our members by harnessing best practice.”
Emily Wallace, TAF CEO, said:
“We are delighted to welcome ADSA as a member of the Trade Association Forum. As the ‘association of associations’, we provide support and networking opportunities to trade associations across the UK, many of which face similar challenges in terms of operational activities.
“Our range of services and activities are designed to assist strategic development and day-to-day running of organisations and our close work with UK Government, partners and sponsors, help our associations deliver real value for their members.”

The Automatic Door Association (ADSA) was formed in 1985 to establish quality and safety standards for the automatic door industry. It developed the first industry code of practice which covered the safety aspects of automatic doors for pedestrian use. This subsequently formed the basis of BS 7036: 1988, a code of practice for the provision and installation of safety devices for automatic, power-operated pedestrian door systems.

Its membership includes manufacturers, suppliers, installers and service providers of automatic doors – from global companies to sole traders. ADSA member organisations supply more than 75% of the UK market.

DHF launches Fire Roller Shutter course in collaboration with BRE

Door & Hardware Federation (DHF) has announced that it will be launching the revised Fire Roller Shutter course in collaboration with BRE, the first of which will be held on 21st February.

The course is aimed at those involved in installing and maintaining roller shutter fire doors. Although delegates are expected to already possess an understanding and ability in the installation of rolling shutters/industrial doors, it is ideal for those who now wish to gain additional knowledge relating specifically to fire/smoke-resistant roller shutter doors.

The course will comprise elements such as legislation, safe working practice, conformity marking, design and specification, fire testing and certification, installation, safe operation and use, and maintenance and repair, and concludes with a multiple-choice examination.

“We are delighted to once again offer this fully comprehensive one-day course in partnership with BRE,” says DHF’s Head of Commercial Operations, Patricia Sowsbery-Stevens.
“The content has been significantly updated and provides the key details that must be addressed when installing, repairing and maintaining roller shutter fire doors. The importance of safe roller shutter fire door installation cannot be overemphasised, and poor installation can lead to an otherwise well-manufactured roller shutter door failing to meet the safety standards and, most importantly, failing to meet the required performance in the event of a fire.
“Repair and maintenance of a life-safety device such as a roller shutter fire door is imperative. Generally, following handover, this responsibility passes to the building owner. On-going maintenance should be considered a preventive measure to ensure the roller shutter fire door operates correctly at all times, and where problems are identified, it is vital that a scheduled programme is in position to ensure that timely corrective action takes place.”
Following the first course on 21st February, courses will take place on 28th March and 25th April, all at DHF’s training academy near Tamworth. DHF members also receive a 15% discount.

“This course will enable the delegate to benefit from a thorough understanding of the regulations and standards applicable to roller shutter fire doors, provide clarification on conformity marking, fire testing and certification for roller shutter fire doors, offer an appreciation of the importance of critical components, and an understanding of the importance of regular repair and maintenance schedules,” concludes Patricia.

Bookings can be made on the BRE website: https://bit.ly/3W8dv0X
