SOSEC receives first UK MotorwayTrial

SOSEC, the UK's first mobile, solar powered barrier and gate system for work sites made its UK debut on the M23 last month, securing the main works entrance of a 1.5km section of road works.

Highway Care, SOSEC's  highways partner, were responsible for installing the full overnight installation of 1500 metres of temporary crash barrier on the live lane, securing the hard shoulder work zone.

On the M23, the SOSEC gate provided contractors with a power free method to slow and control access to the work zone, track who is on site and prevent accidental entry from the general public.

A 4G intercom allows visiting contractors or emergency services to contact the central control office and known contractors use managed swipe cards or codes to enter - all powered by the sun.

Ben Duncker, Commercial Sales Director, Highway Care explains,
"SOSEC is allowing us to offer a unique solution to our clients, helping to protect the vulnerable entrance to dangerous work zones.
"Its 'ready to work' and mains free design means we simply lower it into position and the security is in place. This can save contractors thousands of pounds of traditional manned security costs and we have some really positive feedback already from the trial site"
