Delta protects people and robots at high-tech logistics firm

Delta Security, the CCTV and access control specialist, is helping to protect employees, delivery robots and intellectual property at a London-based transportation and logistics company with the installation of an integrated, Cloud-based security solution.

The customer, a tech start-up company, uses mobile technology, specially designed robots and a local hub system to deliver parcels and groceries to customers in as little as five minutes.

The solution includes a Cloud-based Intratone access control fob system, high definition CCTV, and monitored intruder alarm. The technologies are all integrated, and remote management software and an App enables authorised personnel to access reports on activated alarms, CCTV footage, and detail on who has accessed the premises, from anywhere at any time.

The Intratone access control system also allows employees to print permanent and adhoc ID passes, and permit access to specialised areas according to requirements.

As well as designing, installing and commissioning the new security system, Delta is also providing 24/7 CCTV monitoring, notifying keyholders of suspicious activity or elevating the response to the police in the event of a confirmed alarm.

A spokesperson for the client company says that security is paramount:
“Delta Security understands that we are required to work around the clock, and its team of helpful engineers is very responsive when assistance is required. The CCTV App works particularly well allowing us to easily view footage on the go when necessary.”

Nick Given, Senior Access Control Engineer, says it has been an exciting project to work on:
“Protecting assets is extremely important for tech companies, and a smart, dynamic and mobile-friendly system was required to suit their ways of working.”

Give Customers the Luxury of Self-Service with Time-Sensitive Smart Locks

Set in leafy Oxfordshire, Loyd Lindsay Rooms is a unique venue offering event facilities. From board meetings to conferences, birthdays to weddings, the staff pride themselves by offering the highest level of personal service from start to finish.

The event team wanted the venue to be self-service and available to hire for allotted time slots, 24/7 – without their caretaker having to continuously visit the venue to open and lock up. Ideally, clients would let themselves in and out of the venue unaided. The team wanted to make its clients’ experience the best it could be.

Following a recommendation from locksmiths, JPriest & Son, Loyd Lindsay Rooms decided that a Codelocks CL5510 smart lock would meet its needs.

It ticked all the boxes:
  • Enabled self-service
  • Easy to use
  • Flexible
  • Secure
“The Codelocks system has allowed me to set up specific codes for individual clients to give them access to the venue without our caretaker being present.” – Karen Smith, manager.

Loyd Lindsay Rooms clients now have the luxury of choosing their most suitable entry method, whether it be phone, code or card. Personalised codes are sent to users via email or SMS for self-service access at a time that pleases them. The code is then automatically erased when the client has finished using the venue.

For ultimate flexibility, Karen and the event team can manage all aspects of the lock remotely using a smartphone, including an audit trail. They can download and view the data to track people entering and leaving.

For Loyd Lindsay Rooms, the major benefit of the smart lock is financial. Remote access means that they don’t have to pay their caretaker to open and lock up after every client. It also provides an extra layer of security.

Speaking of the success the lock has brought the venue, Karen stated:
“The feedback from our clients has been positive as, with a time-sensitive entry code, they now know that they will not be interrupted by people just walking into the venue.”
With the CL5510, access control has never been so convenient.

LiftMaster make Successful Trade Fair Appearance

With a new plug-in drive with WIFI interface, MyQ technology, attractive partnerships and advanced drive solutions, LiftMaster impressed the trade visitors at the R + T trade fair.

Smart products for customers and users as well as smart business solutions for partners and installers were presented by LiftMaster at the R + T 2018 in Stuttgart. The world market leader for professionally installed garage door operators registered an enormous response from the international trade visitors during the five days of the fair.

Rob Marais, Managing Director International, says:
"R + T is a valued industry meeting place for us. We were able to present numerous enhancements that were very positively evaluated by interested parties and partners.
LiftMaster has once again been perceived as an innovative company that stands for high-performance and customer-friendly drive solutions. "

LM3800W
Drive with WIFI interface

At the center of the product presentations was the new plug-in drive LM3800W for sectional doors with spring compensation. This model is the first of its kind to have a WIFI connection. Additional modules are superfluous.

For the installer, the installation is thus less complicated and faster. Thanks to the MyQ technology, the user benefits from a particularly simple control via an app on a smartphone, tablet or PC.

Another highlight is the LM750EVGB. It is the ideal drive for space-saving single skin roller garage doors. The 24 volt DC motor is powerful enough to run single and double garages and opens the door within seconds.

LM750EVGB
MyQ technology convinces

Once again, the MyQ technology was very popular. This is continuously being extended to other products in the LiftMaster range. At the same time, it is networking with other innovation leaders such as Nest, IFTTT, Google and Apple. The combination with Nest surveillance cameras and Nest Thermostats is already possible.

The partnerships with IFTTT, Google and Apple are only currently available in the US in order to test and then see if they can be integrated into LiftMaster’s global businesses in Europe, Oceania and Middle East. In this way, users will gain additional comfort and safety around the driveway, garage and building without any compatibility problems.

About Chamberlain Group

Chamberlain Group (CGI) is a global leader in access solutions and products. RCS unveil new High Speed Door

RCS Doors are extremely proud to announce the launch of their brand new high  speed door - the Hs3. This product differs from those in Britain’s current market by cost, lead time, and maintenance.

The Hs3 is manufactured using individual curtain sections (PVC), meaning any damage that occurs is isolated to the affected section. So, rather than having to replace your whole curtain should it incur damage, you can order one section to replace it. This in turn reduces repair costs, times, and difficulty.

As with all the company’s products, the Hs3 carries their ‘Made in Britain’ membership. This door is not sourced from Europe, it is manufactured in-house here in Britain. Read further under ‘lead times’ below.

A close eye throughout development was placed on intricate design, eradicating very real problems that are encountered in the industry, whilst maintaining an aesthetic profile.

The Hs3 is constructed with aluminium legs and is designed to improve goods flow. These doors provide highly flexible solutions that keep pace with the ever-increasing demand for thermal efficiency.

What are your lead times?

A lead time is determined by several factors including door size, delivery (and location) or collection, finish options, and multi-door orders. We aim to get a standard door out within 10-15 working days (give us a call today and we can give you a more accurate estimate).

All the manufacturing processes of a Hs3 are carried out in-house, here in Britain. There is therefore, no extended waiting times for your door from abroad, and no increased costs as a result.

This is also the case with all parts; we stock them all here meaning any repair jobs you need, we can accommodate faster and cheaper.

Does this door carry a wind class rating?

Yes, it does, the Hs3 has a wind class 5 rating (1500Pa) up to 5800mm wide/36 sq. m. (BS EN 13241:2003+A2:2016), making it equally as effective as an internal or external door.

You can view full details of this newly released door and download its specification here: www.rcsdoors.co.uk

Whatever the penalty, using a mobile phone while driving is far too risky, warns GEM

On first anniversary of tougher penalties for mobile phone use while driving, road safety organisation GEM Motoring Assist launches wide-ranging survey to gauge public mood on a number of road safety, driver behaviour, health and other motoring issues.

Road Safety and breakdown organisation GEM Motoring Assist says it’s time every driver accepts that using a mobile phone while at the wheel is not only illegal but also far too risky.

The call comes as GEM launches a survey to establish the latest thinking when it comes to road safety, driver behaviour, driver health and other current motoring issues.

The current penalty of a £200 fine with six penalty points was introduced on 1 March 2017. As part of the consultation, GEM is seeking opinions on how effective this has been, and whether more severe penalties would be appropriate.

Figures released by the Department for Transport reveal there are still unacceptably high levels of illegal phone use among drivers, with 37% of drivers believing the chance of getting caught is minimal, and 52% not concerned about the impact of getting caught.

GEM’s short ‘Kill the Conversation’ video sets out details of the offence, the risks and the penalties.

GEM road safety officer Neil Worth says holding and using any device while in control of a car is a potentially lethal distraction. He appeals for all drivers to understand the unacceptable level of risk that goes with using a phone while at the wheel.

“We are seriously concerned by the arrogance of so many drivers who appear unconcerned about being caught and the impact it will have on them,” he says. “We urge them instead to ‘kill the conversation’ and to remove the dangers their actions have created, both for themselves and for others.
“Using any mobile device while driving is a massive distraction, first of all because of the physical tasks – such as keying in characters on your phone or scrolling through information.
“It’s also mentally distracting. You only have 100 per cent concentration, so if you allow yourself to take part in a conversation or try to read and respond to data on your phone, you’re seriously reducing your ability to focus on the journey, on the road ahead and on the hazards that may be developing.
“You wouldn’t do it with a police officer watching… so ask yourself is there anything that makes it any less risky or foolish just because the police aren’t there? The answer is no. It is irresponsible and puts not only your own safety at risk, but the safety of those who happen to be sharing the road space with you.
“By never using your phone on journeys, you will not only be staying legal, you will also be giving yourself the very best chance to react early to hazards – a vital part of keeping yourself safe.”

The GEM 2018 Driver Survey is open not only to members of the organisation but to anyone who may wish to comment on a variety of road safety and motoring topics. Although the survey itself is entirely anonymous, everyone completing it is invited to put their name forward for inclusion in a £150 cash prize draw.

GEM has prepared some straightforward advice for improving safety when it comes to mobile phones and driving:

  1. You’re allowed to use a mobile phone when you are safely parked, with the engine off and the handbrake on.
  2. Please do not pick up your phone in any other driving situation, including when you’re stationary at traffic lights or queueing in traffic.
  3. The only exception to this is if it’s an emergency and it would be unsafe or impractical to stop, in which case you may call 999.
  4. Don’t assume that using a hands-free kit means you have dealt with the risk. You are still allowing yourself to be distracted from the task of safe driving, and you could still be prosecuted for not being in control (an offence that carries a £100 fine and three penalty points).
  5. Take a few minutes before a journey to make important calls or to check voice messages and emails. Work together with friends, family, colleagues and work contacts to remove the expectation that we should all be available, all the time.
  6. Plan journeys to build in breaks from driving, where you can call, text or email or interact with social media in a safe environment.

Follow GEM on Twitter @MotoringAssist for the latest industry news.

Lintel Shutter System Now Manufactured at SWS UK

SWS UK have now added a lintel shutter to their range of SeceuroShield physical products, previously manufactured by Shellcast Security.

The bespoke lintel system is installed during the build stage and incorporates a roller shutter which is concealed within the structural opening. Ideal for new-builds the discreet design is extremely popular with architects and is a visually acceptable answer to strict planning restrictions.

Despite just recently taking over manufacture of this product, SWS UK are already very familiar with the lintel system which has been installed with shutter profiles from the SeceuroShield range for 18 years.

SWS UK’s in-house development team have, alongside Shellcast assisted and contributed in the development of the product for many years, making acquirement of the product a natural transition into the SeceuroShield brand.

Rob Hyrons, the previous Managing Director of Shellcast now joins SWS UK in the role of Product Coordinator and will facilitate the integration of the bespoke shutter system into the existing SeceuroShield range. With exceptional technical knowledge, Rob will be on hand to assist SWS UK’s distributors with support and specialist drawings for their site projects.

If you would like to be included in the approved dealer program and add lintels to your range please contact Rob.

Kevin Lindeque, SWS UK’s Commercial Manager said:
‘We are excited to be in a position where we can now offer a fully integrated shutter system. Having worked alongside Shellcast for a number of years, we are already aware of the benefits of the lintel shutter and of its popularity within the construction industry.
‘We are thrilled to have Rob join the SWS team. His expertise in this product will undoubtedly prove invaluable and we look forwarding to introducing this exciting product to our distributors.’

SWS UK are in the process of designing brand new literature, and web-based content to promote the lintel shutter. The new literature will highlight all the key-features, options and availability.

If in the meantime, you would like to discuss the Lintel Shutter System, please contact Rob on 07713644602, or email rob.hyrons@swsuk.co.uk

Hormann invited to Buckingham Palace following contributions to Alzheimer's Society

On the 12th of February, David O’Mara, marketing manager at Hörmann, had the privilege of representing the company at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the work of Alzheimer’s Society UK.

Since 2014, the leading door manufacturer has supported and funded the work that the charity does by raising over £45,000. In recognition of this, David was invited to celebrate the power of music and meet the charity's patron: Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra.

Amongst some 350 guests, David spent the evening in the company of royalty, alongside Angela Rippon and Arlene Phillips. The concert showcased music from a variety of genres including performances from the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, accompanied by London Philharmonic Choir, and Alzheimer’s Society’s own Singing for the Brain group, The Wigmore Hall's Singing with Friends choir.

The whole night was an incredible display of the positive effects that music has on those struggling with dementia, and a demonstration of some of the services run by the charity.

Commenting on the event, David said:
“It was a very special experience, even just going through the front gate was exciting. The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and London Philharmonic Choir were exceptional, and The Wigmore Hall's Singing with Friends choir’s performance was very poignant. I was in awe of the singers and the sheer size and grandeur of the palace, it was all truly inspiring.
“I would like to say a big thank you from myself and everyone at Hörmann for the invitation, we are extremely proud to be associated with Alzheimer’s Society UK, and this is something that all the attendees will remember for the rest of their lives.”
Alzheimer’s Society UK is the UK’s leading dementia support and research charity for anyone affected by any form of dementia across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Details on the charity’s work are available at www.alzheimers.org.uk.

Hörmann supports a number of charitable causes, both locally and nationally, for more information on this visit, www.hormann.co.uk/news.

Access for all: Lottery funding gives Audlem Public Hall a new lease of life

The Audlem Public Hall in Cheshire was built in 1904 and although an important, well-loved building in the village, it was no longer meeting the needs of the local community.

After being granted a substantial sum from the Big Lottery Fund in May 2016 and raising £100,000 from the local community, work began to extend and refurbish the building. The addition of ‘The Annexe’ meant that the building also required new door automation to ensure that everyone in the community could use and enjoy the public hall.

Bower Edleston Architects, the architecture practice working on the project, turned to Washington and Riley, an architectural hardware specialist, for help with the door automation in addition to the standard architectural ironmongery.
“We knew that the public hall was going to be used frequently by a range of people with different physical capabilities,” said Jason Thompson, director of Washington and Riley. “We had already provided the door hardware schedule to Bower Edleston before being asked to supply the additional access control elements for two doorsets. That’s when we enlisted the help of HOPPE (UK).”

“Washington and Riley has worked with HOPPE (UK) for the best part of 20 years and we’ve always had a good relationship with both the external sales team and the guys in the office. Nigel Gray is our ‘go to guy’ for all things access control so we knew he could support us with this project.”
For this project, HOPPE (UK) worked with a third-party installer, System13. After completing an initial risk assessment to examine the doors’ location, suitability and practicality, System13 carried out the installation, including full safety features and wireless push pads.

HOPPE (UK) specified the AR/E-0548-010 Swing Door Drive Unit as it has a range of features that allow people of all physical abilities to move through the building with ease, making it the ideal solution for public places.

Nigel Gray, access control manager at HOPPE (UK), said:
“As an intelligent operator, the Swing Door Drive Unit adjusts its power to accommodate poor weather conditions and can increase its own power by up to 15%. For facilities managers, this means minimal maintenance and cost as they don’t have to call an installer to make any power adjustments to the unit.
“The other big benefit for public buildings is that it can be fitted with safety sensors. These sensors are triggered when someone is standing in the path of the door. The door drive unit will not allow the door to open or close until they are completely out of range, helping to keep all building users safe.”

In order to keep building users safe in the event of a fire, the door system has been linked to the fire alarm. If the fire alarm is activated, the power to the automatic door is cut. This stops the doors from opening automatically and enables them to operate as standard doors, helping to prevent the spread of flames, smoke and toxic gases without stopping people leaving the building.

The Annexe was officially opened on 18 November 2017 by the High Sheriff of Cheshire, Sarah Callander Beckett.
