Home Security Needs Solved with Ironmongerydirect

With the dark winter months approaching, IronmongeryDirect is encouraging trade professionals to talk to their customers about a belt and braces approach to home security.

Here are some recommended and reliable solutions available from the UK’s leading online ironmongery specialist.

For properties with external wooden doors, IromongeryDirect has a wide choice of nightlatches available from top trade brands to help ensure they’re well secured.

The Yale 89 Double Locking Nightlatch features a key-operated double locking mechanism, which prevents the handle from turning on the inside if intruders break the door glazing or an adjacent window in an attempt to gain entry.

IronmongeryDirect’s range also includes over 1,000 mortice locks, latches, cylinders, and multipoint door lock solutions to suit a range of project requirements.

For uPVC or composite doors, installing a Yale 3-star anti-snap double cylinder provides greater defence with anti-pick, anti-bump, anti-screw, anti-pull, and anti-drill lock protection.

Plus, with built-in anti-snap, if an intruder attempts to break the lock, the front of the cylinder will be sacrificed to give way, leaving less of the cylinder vulnerable to attack.

It’s also important to ensure the security of any outbuildings on the property, such as garages, sheds, or offices, in addition to securing doors and windows.

For this, the easy-to-install Yale Wireless PIR Motion Detection / Sensor Shed & Garage Alarm which sounds a 100dB siren to alert when motion is detected within a 12m range is ideal.

Alternatively, the Yale Wireless App Enabled Alarm, which is also simple to install, has a 30m range, making it convenient to monitor the central property and external buildings close by remotely from a smart phone.

The system is also expandable with up to 30 HAS alarm accessories, helping ensure any property is thoroughly secure and protected, providing peace of mind.

IronmongeryDirect is the UK’s leading online ironmongery specialist, with over 50 years of trusted experience and over 18,000 products in stock.

Partnered with leading couriers, customers can order by 9pm for next day delivery (4pm on Saturdays) or choose Click & Collect from over 10,000 DPD parcel shops nationwide.

Enhancing Internal Spaces, Adding Light & Luxury!

Residential and commercial property owners always seek to improve and enhance how they utilise their internal spaces, making more rooms for increased multi-purpose whilst maintaining natural light and maximising the space available.

Demand for internal glazed doors is on the increase; due to their slim sightlines and sleek contemporary design, end users are increasingly requesting to include them in their renovations and designs. Internal glazed doors have several benefits:

  • They enable maximum light into any room as opposed to other options of partitioning
  • Internal glazed doors are highly energy efficient; the flow and distribution of natural sunlight minimises the need for artificial lighting reducing energy bills and consumption
  • Glass panels are also excellent insulators which in turn help in the noise reduction and soundproofing between spaces

Astra Windows Director, David Jackson explains:

“Trade interest for internal glazed doors has soured in recent years; homeowners are regularly being drawn to the use of incredible looking aluminium internal glazed doors to create more aesthetically pleasing living spaces.”

He continues:

“Our internal door & fixed glazed screening system have super slim sightlines and a luxurious modern heritage look, which the trade informs us that their customers are loving!

“These features make them the ideal product for end users and homeowners who want to create a bespoke glazed interior partition to separate rooms whilst maintaining optimum levels of natural light and the pleasant aesthetic of an open-plan ambience.”

Astra Windows can fabricate an entire suite of matching internal doors produced from the same door profile to ensure consistency across the range.

Their internal doors are available as hinged, pivot, sliding, pocket or bi-fold configurations, allowing for design continuity across your projects.

Additionally, Astra Window’s internal door & fixed-glazed screening system offer:

  • Full range of door configuration options using a single system
  • Soft-close and soft-open options
  • Lock solutions available
  • Easy installation
  • Concealed hinges
  • Minimal sightlines
  • Fast lead times
  • Suitable for domestic and commercial projects

David continues:

“At Astra Windows, we fabricate only the highest quality materials made available to us from the best systems houses in the UK.

“This provides our trade installers with complete peace of mind that you can fit and forget every time you buy from Astra Windows - knowing that your end user will always be fully satisfied and delighted with their new install.

“Regardless of specification, design or end-user taste, our fabricating excellence and customer service will ensure that any trade project requirements are not simply met; they are exceeded!”

Garador says it is indeed All About Size!

When Garador started manufacturing garage doors over 75 years ago, cars were small, and garages were of a standard size.

Today, with cars coming in a vast range of sizes and the use of garages changing, demand for different-sized garage doors is increasing. Top-of-the-range developers build larger garages for discerning customers; individual homeowners may be looking to renovate a specifically sized garage; standard-sized doors simply don’t address modern needs.

British garage door manufacturer Garador is recognised as one of the leading companies that offer a full range of different-sized garage doors. Most of these doors don’t carry any surcharge for specialist sizing, they are part of Garador’s extensive standard garage door collection, and with widths right up to 5500mm and over, it means sourcing a garage door for a specific development or build has never been easier.

As a general rule of thumb, the dimensions of a standard single garage door used to be considered to be 2,134mm x 2,134mm and a double door 4,267mm x 2,136mm, but today really, there is no average size as housing and requirements change.

Instead, Garador offers a massive choice of heights and widths for its garage doors. A good example of its flexibility in sizing is the number of different dimensions available on its top-selling steel panel up and over the Carlton door.

This popular door is available in an astonishing selection of 57 standard single-door sizes, from 1984mm x 1830mm right up to 3049mm x 2136mm. Standard double-door sizes also come in an extensive range, up to 4879mm x 2136mm. At slightly more cost, purpose-built Carlton range doors can be built right up to 5000mm x 2136mm.

And this is just for the traditionally popular Carlton design. Doors from other ranges are available with an even greater selection; for instance, a standard door in Garador’s linear up-and-over range goes right up to 5500 x2250, or you move up to the fabulous looking GaraRoll timber effect roller doors, and they can go right up to 6162mm width.
“With our manufacturing factory and head office right here in the UK, we pride ourselves on being able to supply the best and most cost-effective solutions for the widest range of requirements,” said Garador’s managing director Jon Watson.
“Today, people expect choice as well as cost-effective products, and here at Garador, we can certainly offer this,” he added.
Talk to your local distributor about the different sizes available in various Garador ranges, or find out more by visiting www.garador.co.uk or calling 01935 443701.

AC Cars to unveil AC Ace Classic electric at SEMA 2024 with TREMEC

AC Cars, Britain’s oldest active vehicle manufacturer, will unveil its brand-new sports car, the AC Ace Classic electric at the SEMA 2024 show with electrified performance technologies partner TREMEC Electric GT.

A new version of the recently announced AC Ace Classic and AC Ace Bristol Classic, the car was conceived at AC Cars’ advanced facility on the UK’s south coast, before completion in the US, to deliver a timeless style of motoring energised by the latest electric powertrain technology.

TREMEC’s unmatched heritage in Performance Technologies, which includes its Advanced Electrification Capabilities, made it the obvious partner for this new roadster from the British company that can trace its roots back to 1901.

Evocative of the origin story of the famous car that the original AC Ace evolved into, the AC Cobra, the chassis, coachwork and interior of each vehicle will be hand crafted before receiving their electrified performance powertrain.

TREMEC Electric GT’s turnkey eGT413 Modular EV platform is fully integrated into the AC Ace and is designed to elicit a powerful driving experience in this most iconic of sports cars.

With 300 eHorse Power (225 kW), a 72 kWh battery package, and a sub 1,134 kg (2,500 lb) curb weight the AC Ace delivers excellent performance.

DC Fast Charging combined with a 200+ miles of range per charge provide an extremely functional and reliable roadster.*

Pairing traditional skills pair with advanced carbon-fibre for the bodywork, and the electrified powertrain providing staggering speed, all vehicles will arrive with a hand-finished interior.

Speaking ahead of unveiling David Conza, CEO of AC Cars, said:

“We are extremely excited to have TREMEC as our electrified performance technologies partner for the new AC Ace Classic electric.

The calibre of its work, and the depth of knowledge has been instrumental in developing a car both companies are incredibly proud of.”

Antonio Herrera, Managing Director of TREMEC added:

“To be working with such a historically significant marque as AC Cars and to be delivering Electrifying Performance to such an iconic design, really demonstrates our approach to revolutionising automotive powertrains.”

Reservations and orders for the new AC Ace electric are now open, with the unique sports car starting at $275,000 before local sales and state taxes.

Deliveries will start in 2025 for a limited number of cars. More details and advance registration will be available here.

The Return of the AC Ace

The AC Ace Classic electric and AC Ace Bristol Classic electric are a new chapter for one of the all-time great British sports cars.

Capturing the halcyon days of roadsters, it uses cutting edge construction techniques to deliver benchmark ride and handling.

An original-type chassis, carbon-fibre bodywork and a modern powertrain blend seamlessly with the iconic styling to deliver an unmatched driving experience.

Throughout the company’s 123-year history, no other model from AC Cars’ past has the same significance as the AC Ace.

With an innovative chassis for its time, and a lightweight aluminium body it gained the respect of enthusiasts and racers alike for its everyday drivability and competition pace.

This is the car that would eventually transform into AC Cobra of legend.

The AC Ace was no stranger to racing success in the US, and proved highly effective at the SCCA National Championships.

Very popular amongst private owners, it dominated the E Production class - winning three years running at the Sebring 12-Hour race.

The AC Ace was clearly highly respected, and in 1958 influential magazine Sports Car Illustrated declared the car: “…as close to a racing sports car you can get and still have a ‘streetable’ machine.”

The new electrified AC Ace will be available in two distinct personalities of car – reflecting the evolution of the original AC Ace over its 10-year production run 1953-1963.

For fans of the later cars the AC Ace Classic electric uses the open grille design of the AC Ace before its transformation into the famed AC Cobra, while the AC Ace Bristol Classic electric employs the earlier ‘smiling face’ that graced the model for its launch in 1953. Both models feature graceful rolling flanks and wheel arches, in contrast to the flat-sided original design.

As befitting the return an archetypal name, the AC team have employed traditional techniques to create and refine the car’s graceful lines.

However, this will still allow for a precision carbon-fibre bodywork to be crafted at the company’s facility on the UK’s south coast.

Immensely strong, yet light, the work employs the same techniques as AC Cars’ flagship model, the AC Cobra GT Roadster.

Cars for US customers will be shipped to TREMEC’s North American Manufacturing Facilities where the electric powertrain will be fitted and the cars readied for delivery.

The new AC Ace electrification project is the beginning of an Electrified Performance partnership between TREMEC and AC Cars.

Unveiled at SEMA 2024 on the TREMEC stand (#21455), the new AC Ace Classic electric and AC Ace Bristol Classic electric will be delivered as brand new, road registered cars.

Priced at $275,000 before tax and any personalisation or bespoke options, they will be available as left-and-right-hand drive and intended for US as well as UK clients.

Each car will bear an official chassis number, denoting it as a true AC and a descendent of the historic AC Ace.

More details and advance registration will be available here.

Pyroguard Expands In-House Capabilities with New IGU Production Line

Investment Enhances Toughened Fire Safety Glass Offering to Meet Growing Market Demand

Pyroguard, the world’s leading independent fire safety glass provider, has invested significantly in a new Insulated Glazed Unit (IGU) production line at its Seingbouse facility in France.

This strategic move is in direct response to increasing market demand for double and triple-glazed units, particularly within the steel and aluminium façade sectors, and will enable Pyroguard to provide seamless end-to-end solutions for its customers.

With this state-of-the-art production line, Pyroguard can now produce a wider range of IGU configurations entirely in-house, delivering greater production efficiencies, faster lead times and enhanced product quality.

By integrating these capabilities within its own facilities, Pyroguard is poised to offer its customers a superior level of service, providing a complete portfolio of toughened fire safety glass solutions from a single, streamlined source.

The investment follows a series of successful test programs conducted with market-leading frame system manufacturers, including Forster, Jansen, Schüco and Reynaers, with demand for specialist fire-rated IGUs, especially facade applications, clearly on an upward trend.

This new test evidence, combined with its existing portfolio, sees Pyroguard strongly positioned to continue to meet the evolving needs of the market, ensuring a dependable supply to customers.

Commitment to Innovation and Growth

Mathieu Joli, Managing Director at Pyroguard, commented:

“We are dedicated to anticipating and responding to customer demands, with quality and service at the heart of everything we do.

“The addition of this new IGU production line allows us to directly address the growing trend for double and triple-glazed units, especially in the metal façade sector.

“By bringing this capability in-house, we can improve lead times, increase production efficiencies and offer more sustainable solutions, all while maintaining the high-quality standards our customers expect.

“This investment forms a key step in our wider growth strategy, driven by our commitment to provide technically advanced fire safety glass solutions.

“Our Seingbouse facility is central to this effort and with our enhanced capacity and cutting-edge technology, we are more equipped than ever to support our customers’ projects across Europe and beyond.”

Sustainability and Efficiency

The new production line incorporates state-of-the-art machinery, including fully automated sealing technology, contributing to lower carbon outputs by reducing the need for external transportation.

This aligns with Pyroguard’s focus on sustainability, as the company continues to innovate in both fire safety and environmental responsibility.

Having manufactured toughened fire safety glass at the Seingbouse site for over 40 years, Pyroguard’s solutions are trusted for their compliance with stringent fire safety regulations, as well as their ability to meet the evolving demands of modern architecture.
