Endurance Team has Heart

Staff at the Endurance® group have once again staged a sponsored walk in memory of a colleague and to raise money for charity.

A team from across the manufacturer of premium quality, technically innovative fenestration solutions - whose brands include Endurance® Doors and Endurance® Aluminium - held the now annual walk on Saturday April 12th. They covered a 7.3 mile route from Market Rasen in Lincolnshire to the nearby village of Walesby and back again.

The walk, which has been staged since 2023, remembers Craig Sunderland, who worked within Endurance’s production operations.

Craig sadly lost his life to Young Sudden Cardiac Death (YSCD).

This rare medical condition can see normally fit and healthy individuals, aged under 35, suddenly and unexpectedly pass away due to an undiagnosed problem with their heart which has caused no prior symptoms.

As a tribute to Craig, the annual walk also raises money for The Beat Goes on 31 – a North Lincolnshire-based community group which fundraises on behalf of CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young).
"Young Sudden Cardiac Death is the biggest cause of natural death for people in the UK aged between 14 and 35. Every week, it claims the lives of 12 young adults...
A specialist charity, CRY aims to prevent YSCD through a range of activities. This includes raising awareness of YSCD, funding specialist research and providing free cardiac health screening to people aged 14 to 35, such as electrocardiograms (ECGs) and echocardiogram (an ultrasound scan of the heart).

This screening is not currently available through the NHS for this age group, unless patients present with specific symptoms.
"This year, the annual Endurance walk successfully raised £632... This is sufficient to provide free heart screening appointments for 10 young people.
CRY also supports young adults diagnosed with potentially life-threatening cardiac conditions as well as individuals and families who have been bereaved as a result of YSCD.

This year, the annual Endurance walk successfully raised £632 for The Beat Goes On 31. This is sufficient to provide free heart screening appointments for 10 young people.

Speaking of the walk and subsequent donation, Sharleen Lawless, HR Director, at the Endurance® group, said:
“Young Sudden Cardiac Death is the biggest cause of natural death for people in the UK aged between 14 and 35. Every week, it claims the lives of 12 young adults with around 80% of those affected showing no prior symptoms.
“The Endurance® team has first-hand experience of the devastating impact of YCSD and I am proud that they have turned the tragic loss of Craig into positive action.
“I’d like to thank everyone who took part in the walk as well as their sponsors, and to congratulate them on the money they have raised for such a personally significant cause.”

Clearview Group ‘opens new doors’ with The Door Industry Journal acquisition

Clearview Group and The Door Industry Journal (DIJ) are pleased to announce that from 1st June 2025, DIJ will be owned and managed by Clearview Group.

DIJ will sit alongside fenestration magazines Clearview and Pro Installer, and hardware and security title The Locksmith Journal.

Following the acquisition, Clearview Group will own and oversee DIJ in its print form, online activity, social media platforms, daily blog and weekly newsletter.

The Door Industry Journal began life in the mid-1990s as a simple one-page newsletter called AGDS, created by the Association of Garage Door Specialists.

Derek Hibbart has managed and edited the magazine since 1998, alongside his wife Karen and took the title into private ownership in 2009.

Originally volunteering while on the AGDS committee, Derek brought more than 25 years of experience in builders' merchants, hardware, ironmongery, and garage doors across wholesale, retail, and franchise operations.

This industry insight has helped shape the publication into what it is today, from a single sheet newsletter to three thriving annual print magazines, website, social media, blog and weekly online newsletter to subscribers.

Over the years, the AGDS newsletter not only grew in size and popularity but has also evolved through several names and appearances.

Firstly, the newsletter became The AGDS Journal, and later, following the merger of AGDS with the Door and Hardware Federation (DHF), it became The Journal.

In the late 2000s, a decision was taken to widen the publication's coverage to include the industrial doors sector and the door hardware and locksmith sectors.

And, in 2010, to reflect this broader industry coverage, the magazine was renamed The Door Industry Journal. The new name marked a turning point.

Since then, the publication has become a trusted, comprehensive resource for professionals across the entire door and hardware sector, with a particular focus on garage doors and commercial products.

Derek Hibbart and DIJ will be well-known to brands and businesses within these sectors, but perhaps not as familiar in fenestration.

In fact, Derek and Clearview have brushed shoulders in the past – as there is some overlap in the magazines’ content and reach.

So, when Derek and Karen started to think about retirement, and carefully considering who would take over the title, Derek recalled a chance encounter with Steve Sidebottom, Clearview Director and decided to get in touch.

It was in an airport lounge en route to Germany for a Hörmann event, which, according to Derek, was “longer than five years ago but not as long as 15 years ago,” where the two men first chatted a while and swapped business cards – as has happened so many times in the industry.

Derek kept the card and called Steve several years later…

“There were several suitors for buying the business.”

Explains Derek.

“But none of them seemed to be the right fit. We wanted the magazine to go to a good home and find a like-minded company that’s values aligned with our own, and ideally had a portfolio that DIJ slotted into neatly.

“When we looked into Clearview Group – Clearview, Pro Installer, and The Locksmith Journal – it felt like DIJ didn’t only nestle into those titles neatly, but in fact was the perfect fit.

“We also thought that by taking on the magazine, it would open new doors for Clearview Group, too and provide opportunities for their customers and ours to explore new avenues and audiences.”

“I’m stepping down but not stepping back completely just yet,”

Says Derek.

“I’ll still be available for customers – and the team at Clearview – on an advisory basis and to assist with the production of the magazines.

“I’ve built up a strong relationship with my customers over the past 25 years or so, and made many friends along the way too.”

Steve Sidebottom, Clearview Director added:

“We’re delighted to add this established publication to our portfolio of magazines.

“Derek has done a great job with DIJ and we look forward to building on his template; utilising our experience and in-house resource to take the magazine to the next level, while offering all customers added value across every title.”

Allan Brothers launches new Oxfordshire showroom

Allan Brothers, the UK’s oldest timber window and door manufacturer, has opened a new showroom to serve Oxfordshire, the Cotswolds and the Home Counties regions.

Blenheim Palace Sawmills, a nineteenth-century barn conversion on the Blenheim Palace Estate near Woodstock, is now showcasing the company’s solid timber and Alu Clad windows and doors, including traditional sash windows, flush casement windows, entrance doors, and a variety of patio door solutions.

Managing Director Morten Bach Valsted said:
“The new showroom is the latest in a series of exciting developments at Allan Brothers, which started with a £2.6 million factory upgrade last year, including the installation of state-of-the-art CNC machinery, followed by the introduction of our new upgraded Crafted Range of timber windows.”
“At a time when the industry is experiencing a 20% downturn, and many companies are pulling back, we are continuing to push forward by investing in our products, our employees and our premises.”
As part of its expansion south, Allan Brothers has strengthened its sales and marketing team with three new appointments.

Heading up the southern operation is Commercial Director Charlotte Whelan, who is responsible for the company’s business growth and brings a wealth of experience from her previous role as Managing Director of Oxfordshire window installer Jack Brunsdon.

Working alongside Charlotte is newly appointed Hannah Wardle as Marketing Assistant and Account Manager, and Christopher Seymour, who will be identifying new opportunities and delivering tailored solutions to trade and residential customers in the south.
“With a new experienced team in place and well-located new premises, I am confident that we will continue to build on our growing customer base in the south of England,” said Morten.
The new Allan Brothers showroom is open to homeowners, architects and trade professionals.

DoorBird and Homematic IP are now networked, improving convenience and security

Access control is now getting even smarter: Cloud-to-cloud integration between DoorBird and Homematic IP has already been announced and will be released with the 3.5.12 Homematic IP app update.

Users will benefit from improved convenience, increased security, and seamless communication right from the Homematic IP app.

DoorBird door stations are pioneering the field of door communication.

The multiple award-winning products are now becoming part of the Homematic IP smart home system.

The 3.5.12 update for the free Homematic IP app, which will be rolled out gradually from May 27, 2025, allows users to establish a secure cloud-to-cloud connection between their DoorBird video door station and their Homematic IP installation.

This makes it all the more convenient and simple to control access to your smart home.

If a visitor comes to the door and rings the bell, the Homematic IP app will inform the residents by push notification.

Then all they have to do is tap to speak to the guest directly: All video and audio signals are transmitted straight to the Homematic IP app. If users then want to let the visitor in, just one more tap will do the trick – simple, fast and secure.

As a Homematic IP partner product, the DoorBird video door station can be freely combined with many components of the smart home system, for example with a Homematic IP door lock drive.

You can also use the DoorBird device's integrated switching relay, motion detector, or the doorbell button and your DoorBird device’s access module for intelligent automation as required.

The integration is available to all customers with a Homematic IP Access Point, or a Homematic IP Home Control Unit and the free Homematic IP app from version 3.5.12, which will be gradually rolled out to all users from May 27, 2025. All D11 and D21-series DoorBird video door stations are supported.

Outstanding security – Made in Germany

The cloud-to-cloud connection of both systems meets the highest standards of data protection and security.

Ralph Bertelt, CEO of eQ-3 AG:

“The entire communication between Homematic IP and DoorBird is fully encrypted and complies with the latest security standards, thereby preventing information from falling into the wrong hands.

“The Homematic IP Cloud is also hosted exclusively on servers in Germany and is therefore subject to the highest security standards.

“In 2024, the VDE (Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies) certified our system in the areas of protocol, IT, and data security for the eighth time in a row.”

Sascha Keller, CEO of Bird Home Automation GmbH, adds:

“As a German manufacturer, quality, data protection and design are a top priority for us, and these are values that we share with Homematic IP.

“By integrating our IP video door stations into the Homematic IP system, we are offering our customers a particularly convenient way to combine security and smart home functionality.”

With Homematic IP, DoorBird is expanding the possibilities that intelligent building automation has to offer with a high-quality solution for IP door communication.

This integration allows access to be seamlessly connected to smart home controls.

Users benefit from increased security, greater convenience, and a fully networked home.

Sense by MACO - intelligent sensors

With Sense by MACO wireless sensors fabricators install the future. The new sensors make windows and doors a ‘part of the digital future’ in no time at all, thanks to the multi-sector Matter standard.

Future-proof with the Matter standard

Sense by MACO wireless sensors work with the new multi-sector Matter Standard for smart home solutions.

This means maximum manufacturer independence, as consumers can combine any number of products from different manufacturers.

This results in individual solutions that in-crease security, optimise energy consumption or control the indoor climate and save lots of money.

The only condition: all elements must conform to the Matter standard.

Efficiency for installation and operation

The sensors stand out during installation, as they can be fitted as a final element of the production process with minimal effort in the rebate area.

They are invisible when closed and not conspicuous when open.

The window and door status is monitored and transmitted using the energy of standard commercial batteries.

This enables a compact design and a wide range of applications at low operating costs.

Apart from changing the battery, the sensors are practically maintenance-free.

One sensor, four variants

Whether inward or outward opening windows, lift & slide doors or front doors: MACO offers a total of four different sensor variants for reliable element monitoring.

Detecting the status - ‘open’ or ‘closed’ - is the key to greater convenience and control.

After all, it is this information that is used to monitor and automatically control other connected smart home products.

From the alarm system to the heating - security and potential savings can be individually maximised using the sensor data.

MACO, founded in 1947, is a global market leader for window, door and sliding door hardware and provides innovative system and security solutions.

Connectivity with electronic components is playing an increasingly important role, as are mechanical building hardware products, including widely used turn & tilt hardware.

MACO is recognised driver of innovation and a manufacturer with vision that provides disruptive solutions: in 2018, the family-owned company laid the groundwork for future-focused development work with the opening of its research and innovation centre at its headquarters in Salzburg.

With the acquisition of the German company HAUTAU GmbH, the producer of building hardware is also further expanding its strong position in sliding systems and window automation.

2,400 employees work at the Group's six production sites and 16 international sales offices. Pro-duction plants are located in Salzburg, Mauterndorf, Trieben (Austria), Helpsen (Germany), Kalu-ga (Russia) and Gliwice (Poland).

As an employer, MACO has been awarded the ‘Family and Career’ seal of quality by the Austrian government.

Element Urges PAS 24 Compliance to Address New Attack Methods

Updates have been made to the PAS 24 enhanced security standard for windows and doors. Element Materials Technology is encouraging manufacturers to prepare for these changes sooner rather than later.

PAS 24:2022+A1:2024 details methods to evaluate the security performance of doorsets and windows.

This includes testing for updated attack methods to simulate typical burglary techniques.

Adherence to PAS 24 is often necessary for obtaining insurance cover and may assist with Building Control compliance for both residential and commercial properties.

The updates to the standard require lock cylinders to pass a new test that simulates modern attack methods, which is beneficial to the property owner.

The change also follows on from recently released Office for National Statistics metrics, which show that for the year ending December 2024 there were an estimated 422,000 domestic burglary offences across England and Wales.

The attack methods often used by burglars target the cylinder functionality, specifically aiming to disable the security mechanism.

Manufacturers must now demonstrate that their products can withstand the latest attack methods to maintain compliance with the PAS 24:2022+A1:2024 standard.

Andrew Sumner, Certification Schemes Manager at Element Materials Technology, said:

“As opportunistic individuals continually devise new methods to breach doors and windows, it's crucial that our certification and testing processes evolve accordingly.

“These updated requirements will ensure that windows and doorsets are able to meet the latest test methods, helping to safeguard the property owner against break-ins.”

There will be a transitional period for the new requirements, during which the previous version will remain in effect until January 2027.

After this date, all doorsets seeking PAS 24 certification must pass the newly developed cylinder test.

Alternatively, cylinders can comply with the latest requirements of TS 007-1:2024 standard or alternative compliance such as being Sold Secure Diamond rated (SS312:2024).

It should be highlighted that there are other options available to meet the enhanced security requirements, such as additional cylinder protection.

Element is encouraging manufacturers to update their products and processes to align with the updated standard before the deadline. Element Materials Technology has state of the art facilities that are equipped and able to test to the requirements of the recently updated standards.

Element offers full PAS 24 testing alongside a host of other cylinder, lock and hardware testing services at its laboratory in Wednesbury.

Moving On Up At The 2025 Hagerty Hill Climb

Hagerty brought together an eclectic mix of cars to tackle the historic hillclimb course at Shelsley Walsh on Saturday, 17th May, for their 2025 Hagerty Hill Climb event.

Open to all, the paddock contained everything from roaring GT40s and Panteras, to retro classics including a Nova GTE and an Alfa Romeo 75 lining up to take part.

And where else would you see a very Festival of the Unexceptional Proton saloon lurking amongst Group B rally cars in one of the hill climb groups?

Operated as a non-competitive event, the Hagerty Hill Climb was a relaxed affair, where spending time with like-minded enthusiasts took precedence over setting a winning time.

The result was a paddock filled with drivers, young and old, including seasoned hill climbers in specially prepared cars, lined up alongside a daily-driven hatchback taking on Shelsley Walsh for the first time.

Hagerty events, such as this one, along with its Festival of the Unexceptional and RADwood, celebrate all aspects of car culture and give owners a great reason to use and enjoy their vehicles.

Mark Roper, Managing Director of Hagerty International, said:

“We encourage all classic and enthusiast car owners to drive their cars as often as possible, and our new Hagerty Drivers Club was designed with that in mind.

“The Hagerty Hill Climb event is another great example of this, with valuable classics mingling with modern cars, modified cars, racing cars and daily drivers, but regardless of what car you own, everyone leaves with great memories.

“Up next is our famous Festival of the Unexceptional, taking place on Saturday 26th July, another open to all, fun and relaxed event bringing a new era of classic cars into the spotlight.”

The newly launched Hagerty Drivers Club offered an exclusive Members Enclosure at Shelsley Walsh, providing members with a moment of calm between drives, featuring live music, guest speakers, comfortable, shaded seating, and snacks and drinks served throughout the day.

For more information on how to join and the numerous benefits membership offers, click here.

Shelsley Walsh is the oldest motorsport venue in the world, still hosting events on the original course, and is older than Indianapolis, Le Mans, or Monza.

Garage Style Ltd accelerates expansion with move to 5,000 sq ft HQ

Garage Style Ltd, the premium garage flooring and design specialists trusted by some of the biggest names in the automotive world and celebrity circles, has announced its next phase of growth with a move to newly purchased 5,000 sq ft premises in Welwyn Garden City.

Founded by Harry Harvey in 2017, Garage Style has rapidly built a reputation for transforming everyday garages into high-end showrooms, working with leading brands including Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Lexus, Yiannimize, Urban Automotive, Hexis, and XPEL.

Their private client list reads like a who’s who of sports, entertainment, and automotive passion — including Jake Paul, Justin Bieber, Joe Swash, Mrs Hinch, Max Chilton, Alison Hammnd, Ollie Webb, Harry Maguire, Jacqueline Jossa, Dan Osborne, Mario Falcone, Luisa Zissman, Mist, Dapper Laughs, DMO Deejay, Stacey Solomon, Shane Lynch and Lucas Moura, among others.

The new Welwyn Garden City site is currently undergoing a major six-figure refurbishment to create a flagship showroom, where customers will be able to experience Garage Style’s full range of premium flooring, garage doors and lighting solutions first-hand.

Harry Harvey, founder of Garage Style Ltd said:

“This move is a major milestone for us.

“We’ve always been about helping customers transform their garage spaces — now we’re transforming our own. It’s a new shop, a bigger space, but the same mission.”

Previously operating across multiple rented units, the team made the strategic decision to purchase the new building outright to provide long-term stability and space to match the company’s ambitions.

The expansion will also see Garage Style’s team grow further, with two to three new hires currently being recruited to support the company’s continued success.

Harry added:

“We’ve needed a new unit for a long time.

“For years, we were renting different spaces all over the place, but now we’ve invested properly. Owning our own 5,000 sq ft site gives us a fantastic platform to keep delivering the very best for our customers.”

The new showroom is scheduled to open this summer and will showcase Garage Style’s signature modular flooring systems, bespoke garage doors and premium lighting — all designed to turn garages into showrooms that are worthy of the vehicles and lifestyles they house.

After 24 relentless hours of competition, it was Team Trojon who emerged as the overall winners, taking a hard-earned and well-deserved victory in the Citroën C1 endurance classic.

The team's success was the result of exceptional preparation, flawless pitwork, and consistent, composed driving across day and night.

Driving duties were expertly shared between:

  • JOHN MUNDAY
  • AUSTIN MUNDAY
  • CHARLIE BINGHAM
  • CHRIS FREEMAN
  • ADAM WILLIS

Together, the five-man squad executed a nearly faultless race strategy, keeping the car in contention from the early stages and rising to the challenge as rivals faltered under pressure.

Their synergy and stamina paid off as they crossed the line first in front of an electrified crowd.

Race Recap: C1 Endurance Showdown

The main event saw a packed grid of nearly identical Citroën C1s battle it out in a true test of mechanical reliability, driver focus, and team coordination.

With tight regulations ensuring a level playing field, the emphasis was firmly on racecraft and endurance – the very qualities Team Trojon displayed in abundance.

DHF to sponsor award at the AFI UK Fencing Awards

Littlewoods Fencing ‘Gate & Barrier Contractor of the Year’ winner 2024

In demonstrating its continuous commitment to raising standards and recognising outstanding achievement in the automated gate and barrier sector, Door and Hardware Federation (DHF) has announced that it will be sponsoring the ‘Gate & Barrier Contractor of the Year’ award at the 2025 Association of Fencing Industries’ (AFI) UK Fencing Award.

This marks the third consecutive year that it has sponsored this award.

The AFI Awards feature nine award categories that are open to contractors, distributors and manufacturers with installer networks, covering areas within the industry that range from Agricultural and Equine, to Highways and Railways and Gates and Barriers.

The Gate & Barrier Contractor of the Year award is a category for contractors to demonstrate the quality of their work across all sectors; this includes standards of precision, attention to detail, innovation, creativity and flair.

Entries for this category must also include a Risk Assessment Method Statement (RAMS), a Compliance & Residual Risk Assessment and a Declaration of Conformity, all of which are essential to demonstrate the safety, regulatory compliance and professional integrity of the completed installation.

DHF’s Senior Training & Compliance Officer, Steve Hill explains:

“These requirements align closely with DHF’s own commitment to promoting best practice and safe working standards across the industry.

“Given the strong synergy between DHF and AFI, we are proud to support this initiative and continue playing an active role in championing excellence across the sector.

“The awards present a fantastic opportunity for DHF members to gain recognition for their work and showcase their commitment to excellence in gate and barrier installation.”

The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday 13th November at Mercedes-Benz World and as a sponsor, DHF’s Steve Hill will be a representative on the judging panel, playing an integral role in evaluating entries and selecting both finalists and the overall category winner.

DHF has been involved in the automated gate industry since 2011 when it formed the Automated Gate Group.

The Group now has 348 members and has played a major role in raising the industry’s understanding about the safety elements involved in a compliant and safe gate installation.

It offers a number of gate safety training courses which can be taken online or at its training academy based near Tamworth.

The Association of Fencing Industries exists to promote safety, quality and professionalism throughout the fencing industry.

It represents members across the UK fencing industry, ensuring members are kept up to date with industry news, technical information, and business opportunities available within its network.

Its awards programme highlights the vital work the fencing industry does in the many diverse areas of the sector and promotes excellence and innovation, industry wide.

To enter, companies must submit their best installations from the past 12 months.

The awards are open to the entire industry, not just AFI members and entries close on 31st July 2025.
