Garador’ biggest ever stand

Britain’s leading garage door manufacturer Garador has designed their biggest ever stand for the National Homebuilding and Renovating Show at Birmingham’s NEC (24th-27th March 2022).

Thanks to the size of the stand, Garador has the space to showcase all their very latest products, including innovations in automation technology and new garage door designs.  A selection of up and over, sectional, roller and side-hinged garage doors as well as Garador FrontGuard entrance doors are all included in the display.

Two of the doors which are expected to attract considerable attention are Garador’s new Ascot side-hinged garage door and the new GaraGlide roller door. The new Slategrain surface finish for sectional garage doors is also included in the display.

There is a lot for visitors to see on the stand, plus a team of Garador experts will be on hand to answer all questions. Visitors can also find out about the latest electric operator technology for garage doors, including “smart ready” Series 4 GaraMatic operators which can be fully controlled using Android or iOS smartphones.

With environmental aspects now high on everyone’s list, Garador is also displaying its ultra-thermally efficient and secure FrontGuard front doors. Along with excellent insulation, these doors complement the designs in Garador’s garage door range, meaning homeowners can choose a matching garage door and front door design from one manufacturer.

Garador’s Managing Director Neil Discombe says:
“We are always delighted to be able to showcase our fantastic range of products. We also always welcome the opportunity to meet our customers in person, and having a larger stand definitely makes a difference.”

UAP Celebrates 25 Year Milestone with Anniversary Brochure

It’s not every day you turn 25, and for a company that has grown from a PC in a spare room into a £22 million business with a staff of 89, it’s not just a milestone, but quite an achievement too.

That’s why UAP Ltd, the specialist in safety and security products for the fenestration sector, has created a new brochure to celebrate the company’s 25 years in business (see link below).

With a personal introduction from chief executive and founder, David Jennings, the new brochure provides a timeline of how the business has developed from a single door knocker product to a broad portfolio across five brands: UAP Fullex, UAP Locking Systems, UAP Intelligent Hardware, UAP Firemongery and UAP TradeLocks.

It outlines how the company operated during the pandemic, showcases some of its recent product innovations, including the game-changing Kinetica+ K4 cylinder and Bio-Key, and discusses the business’ future plans.

The anniversary booklet also explores the company’s culture and CSR achievements, with soundbites from staff and customers highlighting why it is such a positive place to work and a valued supply chain, partner.

It highlights UAP’s charity activities and community outreach, which includes raising money to build five schools and a hospital in Nepal, planting 50,000 trees and donating PPE to charities and community organisations during the pandemic.

UAP’s marketing director, Kamila Kasperowicz, comments:
“After the challenges and uncertainty of the past two years, it is great to have something to celebrate and UAP is stronger than ever with a talented team that have helped us to continue serving customers and driving growth throughout the pandemic.
“The anniversary booklet is a thank you to our team, and to all our customers and supply chain partners, for their contribution to our success over the past 25 years. We are very proud of our achievements and looking forward to the next 25 years.”

The UAP anniversary brochure is available at uapcorporate.com.

Garador Offers Secured By Design Accreditation on Sectional Garage Doors

Garador is now offering Secured by Design (SBD) accreditation, across nearly all of its sectional garage door range.

The highly regarded SBD status has been offered as a free upgrade on all Garador sectional garage doors, ordered since October last year, that meet certain eligibility requirements.

In order to gain the Secured by Design accreditation, the product and installation must meet strict criteria. These include the Garador sectional garage door being a 42mm Premium insulated model, without windows, fitted behind the opening and automated by a GaraMatic operator.

Once the door is installed, all that needs to be done is for the fitter to fill in a simple form that includes the installer, customer and door details. Garador will then send out an official Secured by Design accreditation pack with a registration label and badge.

The GaraMatic operator, which forms an important part of the Secured by Design accreditation, is engineered with an anti-lift kit to prevent forced entry. This utilises a mechanical lock built into the operator boom, and because it is mechanical the door cannot be forced open even during a power cut.

Another noteworthy security feature of the GaraMatic operators is the bi-directional radio system that uses the same 128-bit encryption employed by banks for online banking security. This technology makes the system even more secure and ensures a more reliable signal and extended range.

Home security remains a concern for homeowners, specifiers and housing developers alike, and there continues to be a strong demand for high-security products which offer an even greater level of protection.

Secured by Design is renowned throughout the building industry, providing a recognised standard for high-security products that reduce crime. The Secured by Design badge is a clear indication that the product has a much higher level of security and has undergone rigorous testing to withstand an attack from a burglar.

Garador’s Managing Director, Neil Discombe comments:
“Secured by Design accredited products are well known for having extra layers of security and so we expect this new feature to be well received by our customers.”
Neil continues: “We have always been proud of the quality of our sectional garage doors. This new Secured by Design accreditation confirms that they are robust and secure.”

Garador already offers a selection of steel up & over garage doors with Secured by Design accreditation, as part of its Guardian range. The addition of SBD sectional garage doors will extend the company’s SBD product offering, giving customers the possibility of ordering a garage door that’s thermally insulated and electrically automated with a GaraMatic operator. Attributes that are not currently available in the Guardian Range.

When picking out a door design and colour, customers can choose from the full range of fully insulated Georgian and Linear designs, as well as all the standard RAL colours.

What qualifies for Secured by Design Status?

To qualify for Secured by Design status, the Garador sectional garage door must meet each of the following conditions:
  • 42mm insulated premium sectional garage door (Classic uninsulated models are not eligible).
  • Fitted behind the opening.
  • No windows in any of the door sections.
  • Electrically operated with a GaraMatic operator.
  • Only official Garador parts and products must be used, and they must be installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
Please refer to the installation instructions for a more detailed list of requirements: bit.ly/3lLWOrU

To find out more about Garador’s SBD sectional garage doors, please visit www.garador.co.uk or call 01935 443722.

Gliderol Switches to Employee Ownership to Secure Long-term Future

Gliderol, one of the UK’s longest established garage door manufacturers has recently completed a deal to transfer the ownership of the business to an EOT (Employee Ownership Trust) providing the business with a stable ownership base on which to continue to thrive across the UK & Ireland.

EOTs were introduced in the Finance Act 2014 in order to encourage indirect share ownership to individual employees. As such, EOTs give employees a direct interest in their future and aim to encourage greater productivity and innovation at work. 100% of the company’s shares are now held in a discretionary trust for the long-term benefit of the total workforce, having the effect of stabilising the company’s ownership structure and securing its independence.

Roy Sinclair, Managing Director of Gliderol (pictured above) wanted to secure the long-term future of the firm and was keen to ensure any transaction was structured in the right way for all stakeholders.
"The establishment of employee ownership through the EOT at Gliderol will provide continued job security for all staff," said Roy. "It will also enable the employees to effectively have collective control of their future to continue to deliver our market leading products and service."
Employee ownership has rocketed in popularity in the last decade pioneered by the John Lewis Partnership and more recently by companies such as Richer Sounds and Aardman Animation. Studies have shown that employee-owned firms are also more resilient and are proven to weather economic cycles better than most. This may prove to be important as firms the world-over deal with the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Gordon Gilbraith, Sales Manager at Gliderol and one of the beneficiaries of the new structure said:
"This is great news for all the staff at Gliderol who now have a stake in the business and will share in the profits."
Roy Sinclair believes that employee ownership also bodes well for customers and will help to secure the long-term future of the company.
"Employee ownership makes us less vulnerable to acquisition and therefore any interruption to the supply of our customers' products," said Roy.
"It is also securing the future of the business, including its ethos, values and employees, while rooting itself for the longer term to the benefit of the customers which it serves - It's a win-win all round."
Established in the UK in 1986, Gliderol is a leading manufacturer / distributor of garage and industrial doors and ancillaries into the UK and Ireland garage and industrial door industry, supplying, distributors, dealers, merchants, sme housebuilders and national house builders. The company operates from its facility in Peterlee and supplies product across the UK and Ireland.

Warringtonfire Invests in UK Testing Laboratory to Meet Increased Demand

Warringtonfire, a world leader in fire testing, inspection and certification services, has made a significant investment in its High Wycombe testing facility to meet the growth in demand for acoustics, smoke leakage and fire resistance testing.

The transformation of the facility includes the refurbishment of its onsite fire resistance and smoke testing laboratories. This comprises new smoke leakage testing equipment, a complete re-lining of two test furnaces as well as installation of a new cold abatement system to extract fumes from the fire laboratory environment.

Alongside the additional fire resistance testing equipment, Warringtonfire’s acoustics laboratory has also been revamped, with new acoustic measuring equipment to enhance and improve testing capabilities.

Lee Wade, General Manager at Warringtonfire High Wycombe, said:
“We have seen a surge in demand for the smoke testing of products. This is being driven by both regulatory changes as well as an increasing appreciation from our customers of the value that testing and certification adds to their products.

“That’s why, despite the uncertainty COVID has generated within the industry throughout the past two years, we have committed to significant capital investment to ensure our laboratory is the benchmark for acoustic, smoke and fire testing, here in the UK. In turn, this will help our clients ensure they can continue to market their products in line with the very latest regulations, in a timely and efficient way.”
Further investment has also been made to improve the facility’s sustainability credentials, with the installation of a new cold abatement system to extract fumes and odours from the test area, as well as fitting energy-efficient LED lighting throughout the laboratory.

Alongside this, the company has added more floor space through a new purpose-built facility to ease congestion and improve working conditions, allowing staff to build test specimens away from the main fire testing area.

New digital viewing technology has also been introduced at Warringtonfire High Wycombe. The package enables customers to watch live product testing remotely at higher quality and has the capability to share live test data from Warringtonfire’s control system.

Wade said:
“Given the ways we and our clients have had to adapt over the past two years, we’ve increased our focus on digital technology. This includes new video packages, better viewing angles of tests in ultra-high definition, and the ability to zoom in on specific areas of the test and our furnaces.

“In order to maximise the potential of the investments made throughout the site, we’ve also embarked on an internal programme to train and upskill our colleagues in testing capabilities, technical qualifications, and project management.
“This will help our clients to comply with any regulatory changes, and also help them continually improve their products.”

Valentine’s Day Marks a Special Anniversary for the DHF and EasyGates Ltd.

14th February 2022 marked the 10th anniversary of the launch of the ‘DHF Guide to gate safety  legislation and standards’. A key document for the industry, it was produced by the DHF with extensive contribution from EasyGates Ltd of Halesowen and ASO Safety Solutions.

Since then, the industry has come a long way!

The guide was produced following two separate incidents in June 2010, where tragically, two  young children died within the space of a week. These deaths served to highlight the safety issues that faced the UK gate automation industry.

The guide emphasised the responsibilities of the installer and the manufacturer, pointed out the need to produce a proper risk assessment, and explained how to follow the standards that need to be adhered to.

The guide also briefed the legal requirements for manufacturing  and carrying out the fitting and maintenance of automated door and gate systems.

Tony Gooding, Managing Director of EasyGates commented:
“This was a major turning point for the industry – for the first time all the relevant information was collated in a comprehensive guide. We were proud of our involvement, and still are today as it is still in use around the UK.

It provided the basis for how things should be done – and has helped the industry build the reputation that it now has.”
As a result of the guide EasyGates also produced a range of videos to support the training officers and those responsible for the maintenance of automated door and gate systems.

Dave Blake, the UK Product & Technical Training Manager for EasyGates, added:
“The importance of this guide, and the subsequent videos and training materials produced, cannot be understated. These have given the industry a track to run on when it comes to providing the quality and safety that the customers deserve.

We are always looking to ensure that we provide the latest information to the industry and will soon be enhancing our video training guides as well as continuing to offer on-site training at our Halesowen site.

Our courses are attended by people from all over the UK, showing how important gate safety is now taken.”
The guide helped form the basis of the current industry-standard state of the art DHF TS013-1 Code of Practice for Automated Gates, Traffic Barriers, Industrial & Garage Doors.

The continued growth of EV chargers is expected to continue in 2022

Scotland skips into first: Experts have found that Scotland is leading in the race as the region with the most EV chargers in the UK beating England and Wales.

The car hire experts at leasecar.uk have crunched the numbers from the Department for Transport to find out how different regions rank when it comes to the number of EV chargers.

They have also suggested from the data that 2022 could be another year for increased EV charger growth across the nation.

As the demand for electric vehicles continues to grow, so does the number of charging points.

And as of January 2022, there were 28,375 public electric vehicle charging devices across the UK, compared to July 2021 when there were 24,374 – an increase of 4,001 devices.

In the last twelve months, the number of public devices has increased by 37% – a total of 7,600 across the UK.

This number has increased year on year since 2015 and shows no signs of slowing down. Another big development over the last year is the rise of rapid charging devices, which has grown by a third, equating to 1,276 devices in total. A number which has again, increased every year since 2015.

A spokesperson for LeaseElectricCar.co.uk said:

“It is clear from the data that there has been growth in every part of the country and when we look back at the previous years it’s hard to see this changing.
“There is no surprise that London comes out top of the list when it comes to the sheer number of charging devices. But Scotland looks well on its way, with a higher number of rapid chargers per 100,000 than the capital.
“The electric car market is booming but this means that there is a requirement at a local level for an increased amount of electric chargers to account for this growth.’
It appears that although the number of charging points is increasing overall there is still a huge gap between London and the rest of the country.

London currently has the highest concentration of public charging points with 102 per 100,000 of the population. This is 84 more per 100,000 than Northern Ireland and 78 more than the Northwest – which could suggest that there will be further developments in these areas during 2022.

The story is different when it comes to rapid chargers with Scotland being progressive in this area. There are currently 12.9 rapid chargers per 100,000 people in Scotland in comparison to just 8 in London.

The East Midlands saw the greatest amount of growth when it comes to rapid charging devices between 1 October  2021 and 1 January 2022.

For information on electric car leasing visit: LeaseElectricCar.co.uk.

Videx introduces new video monitor for leading door entry range

Videx has launched a new premium video monitor for its flagship door entry system the VX2200 and its 2-wire video VX2300 range.

The video monitor, coupled with the 6-wire VX2200 or 2-wire VX2300, is an ideal entry solution for smaller installations, such as apartments and houses, as well as multi-story apartment or office blocks.

The video monitor boasts a 3.5” TFT LCD monitor and eight soft-touch controls, four of which are programmable for features such as activating additional outputs or intercommunicating with other devices in the same apartment or other apartments.

There are several different formats of the video monitor available such as hands-free and those with a handset. The handset version includes hands-free as well. A desk mount kit is also available for the handset version while the hands-free version can optionally be flush mounted.

James Gray, national sales manager at Videx, said:

“Our new range of video monitors perfectly complement the VX2200 and VX2300, two of our most popular entry systems because of the flexibility and convenience they provide to users.
“Available in a polished white or polished black finish with back lit touch controls, the monitors have an elegant and sophisticated look and feel and include a wide range of enhanced features such as timed privacy, door recall and local doorbell and alarm inputs.
“The new range of video monitors are easy to use and enable intuitive entry management across a wide range of properties and buildings making them an attractive choice for door entry, both for small and larger installations.”

Up to 10 monitors can be installed in the same apartment on the VX2200 system while the VX2300 supports up to four per apartment.
