Mul-T-Lock Combats the Rise in Vehicle Crime

As vehicle crime continues to be a growing concern, security specialist Mul-T-Lock is offering new solutions, specifically designed to address the alarming rise in thefts and break-ins and offer enhanced security and peace of mind.

There was a 24.9% year-on-year increase in the number of vehicles stolen across England and Wales, according to new data published by the Office of National Statistics.

Analysis shows that there were 130,389 vehicles stolen last year, compared to 104,435 during the previous year (2021).

Further surveys suggest theft from vehicles rose by 9.9%, with 212,900 people having items stolen from their vehicle compared to 193,647 the year before.

Tradespeople are 10 times more likely to experience tool theft from a vehicle than they are from a building site or their place of work.

Says Suresh Peri, Head of Commercial and Technical at Mul-T-Lock UK:

“The statistics speak for themselves when it comes to vehicle crime, and worryingly only set to increase against a cost-of-living crisis.

“The impact is naturally devastating – whether as a sole trader, small or large fleet operator – the potential for loss of livelihood and significant cost implications is extremely significant.

“We believe we have a duty of care, with our network of professional locksmiths on behalf of our customers to raise these concerns proactively.

“In addition, Mul-T-Lock® MVP2000 offers the most comprehensive option available, which is simple to install, maintain, and operate, giving commercial van owners immediate protection and comfort.”

Designed to be professionally installed and supplied with secure fixings, Mul-T-Lock® MVP2000 is an all-in-one, non-corrosive lock body solution that offers no hanging parts that could damage the paintwork around the lock.

The unique angled lock body of Mul-T-Lock® MVP2000 has been carefully created to deflect blows from a hammer and together with the steel locking bolt adds extra protection for side and rear doors.

Claire Blakemore, Mul-T-Lock UK Managing Director adds:

“We are doing everything we can to support vehicle owners, tradespeople, and fleets against this rise in vehicle crime.

“It’s just one way to show how we are committed to providing comprehensive and reliable solutions to protect their valuable assets.

“With MVP2000, alongside a new suite in development, vehicle owners can have confidence with Mul-T-Lock in the security of their vehicles, knowing that they are protected with the latest technology to deter and prevent unauthorised access and attacks.”

Mul-T-Lock is preparing to launch a new range of vehicle security solutions that will include an entry-level system as well as an upgraded robust construction option for rear and side doors.

These products are designed to provide optimum defence and protection.

Bentley Works Race Cars from Past and Present Return to Le Mans to Celebrate Centenary

The most famous race car of the modern Bentley era, the 2003 Speed 8, made its return to Le Mans last weekend to take part in the centenary celebrations of the ultimate motorsport marathon - the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The dynamic demonstration of the highly popular fan-favourite precedes the return of a new Works Bentley to Le Mans, with a pair of Blower Continuation Series cars to compete at this year's Le Mans Classic.

The very same car that won the race in 2003 - Speed 8 chassis 004/5 - took to the track on Saturday afternoon as part of a centenary parade.

It was piloted by Guy Smith, the same driver who took the chequered flag twenty years ago, as the car turned a wheel at the circuit for the first time since. After being reunited with the car and completing two laps of the circuit.

Guy commented:

“This car delivered Bentley's first Le Mans victory since 1930, and became the springboard for my racing career, and so it's incredibly special to me.

“While I've driven it a couple of times since 2003, this is the first time it's been back to Le Mans and driving it here brought back so many memories and emotions.

“It feels exactly the same as it did when it crossed the line twenty years ago. Bentley is part of Le Mans, and Le Mans is part of Bentley, and it's been an amazing weekend of celebrations of 100 years of history here.”

Le Mans Classic will then see a Works Bentley race at Le Mans for the first time since the victory in 2003 - as a pair of Blower Continuation Series cars take part in the Grid 1 race.

Both the factory-owned Blower Car Zero and a customer car will be racing, with the former building on its recent first test race at Donington Park in the UK.

The entries mark not only the first official Bentley entries to a Le Mans race since 2003, but also the return of a Works-supported Blower to the track for the first time since 1930, when the legend of the Bentley Blower was born.

As part of the rejuvenation of Bentley's Heritage Collection, Speed 8 004/5 has recently undergone a complete rebuild to return it to as-new standard as it was before its most famous victory.

The car is one of eight motorsport vehicles in the Heritage Collection, all of which are maintained in running order alongside the 37 road-going members of the fleet, all of which will be road legal by the end of the year.

The Speed 8 now stays at the circuit for the rest of June, on display in the Le Mans Museum until the Le Mans Classic at the end of the month, where Bentley will have a significant presence and exhibition alongside the race programme.

The Speed 8 will then make several other dynamic appearances this summer, before returning to Crewe to be positioned on display with its sister cars from 2001 and 2002, and the rest of the Bentley Heritage Collection, in three new and purpose-built areas that embed the fleet into any visit to Bentley's campus.

Garador Sponsors New Charity Race

Garador has played a major role in the West Country’s first-ever Race from the Base charity event.

This brand-new event was organised to raise funds for the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance, and Garador was a key sponsor, providing funding for the charity and also organising a 6 man team to take part in the race.

The event started and finished at Henstridge Airfield in Somerset, with three different length routes available. These included a shorter circuit of just 30 km and the most demanding, a 60km cruise race and 100km climb race, which followed a challenging course around the local countryside.

The Garador team included staff members Dean Curwen, Philip Wareham, Neil Bond, Steve Cottell, Geoff Babiy and Robert Green who work in Garador’s manufacturing department.

The race day was particularly hot and challenging, but Garador’s avid cycling team members completed the challenge in excellent time, opting for the 60km course.

Alana Hardy, Fundraising Events Officer at Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance said the hot weather made the race really hard work, but nevertheless, it was a big success.
“Money is still coming in, so we don’t have a total yet, but without doubt this new Race from the Base went very well indeed. It was a fantastic event and the riders had a great time.
“I would like to say a special huge thank you to Garador; we couldn’t run these events without their support,” she added. “ We will now definitely be running another event next year.”
Visit www.garador.co.uk to learn more about the company and view their complete range of garage doors.

Makita’s Hottest New Product

Leading tool manufacturer Makita has launched its eagerly anticipated cordless microwave oven. Driven by the company’s powerful 40VMax XGT battery, the new MW001GZ is designed for portability, allowing users to enjoy hot, microwaved meals in minutes, whether on-site, on the road, or at leisure.

The 8-litre capacity MW001GZ is powered by one or two 40VMax XGT batteries and is designed to utilise the power sequentially for continuous power when it’s needed.

With two output settings – 500W or 350W, the inner heating area is large enough to fit most microwave containers and provides a continuous heating time of up to 37 minutes (when used with two BL4080F batteries at 500W output).

To withstand tough conditions such as building sites, this compact and durable microwave has been manufactured with tempered door glass and is dust and water-resistant.

The appliance also features large carry handles for easy transportation and is also supplied with a carry strap. A USB port is also built-in for charging devices such as mobile phones.

As part of Makita’s XGT battery platform, this exciting product fits in seamlessly with Makita’s expanding XGT power tool collection, enabling users to swap batteries between tasks and switch to the microwave when required.

Kevin Brannigan, Marketing Manager at Makita UK, said:

“As a world-first for Makita, we are thrilled to launch this outstanding new cordless appliance.

“The new MW001GZ is the perfect jobsite or leisure companion, affording users with a hot, microwaved meal or drink in minutes without the need for sourcing an AC supply or power generators.

“Thanks to Makita’s powerful XGT battery technology, the microwave delivers great runtimes, so users can heat up food and drinks over a full working day.”

Architectural Ironmongery: Unlocking Consistent Finishes

Behind a combination of concepts, briefs and materials, architectural hardware can often tie design projects together, and it’s all in the finish, explains Daniel May of Consort Architectural Hardware.

When it comes to door hardware, the details matter. Between levers, pull handles, locks and hinges, correctly specified hardware can elevate any space - enhancing aesthetics, accessibility and functionality.

Typical design projects can house tens – if not hundreds – of doors and their supplementary furniture, each playing a fundamental functional role while also having a significant impact on the overall feel and flow of the building. As such, design professionals are encouraged to put careful consideration into door furniture selection, ensuring they deliver reliable, eloquent solutions that meet user requirements.

While final design decisions may depend on project, preference and budget, it always pays to get your material scheme right the first time around. From colour matching to durability, there are a number of key components to consider when choosing door hardware finishes, and so, with that in mind, what should design teams be on the lookout for?

The finishing touch

Aesthetically speaking, more often than not, a high-quality, consistent finish is more essential to a building’s interior atmosphere than the design characteristics of the door furniture itself. Whether opting for a classic or contemporary feel, the right material scheme can completely invigorate a space while unifying a project’s overarching design theme.

Today, there is an expanding catalogue of popular hardware finishes, each differing for a range of aesthetic and practical reasons. In recent years, for example, there has been an influx of dark-toned, contemporary surfaces, with matt black finishes in high demand. And while the popularity of matt black and even granite material schemes have risen recently, they may not always be suitable for certain settings and may soon be displaced by another leading style.

This revolving door of interior design trends and an ever-growing market of available finishes means the specification process is conceivably more complex than ever before. While juggling the latest styles, modern design teams must also be mindful of the disparity in quality between different suppliers, material grades and price points. At the surface level, different manufacturers may offer the same styles and material schemes, but upon delivery, each may vary in colour shades, characteristics and overall consistency. Consequently, this can leave projects suffering from discord in their design, with end-users later requiring replacements or full redesigns to match their original plans.

Colour matching carries even more weight when meeting the needs of visually impaired users, for example. Under the Equality Act 2010, it stated all new and refurbished public buildings must offer equal access to all users, ensuring safe entry and passage through a building regardless of disability, age or gender. Where only 5% of people that are blind can’t see anything at all, most have limited colour vision and perception of light and shade, and for this, an adequate level of visual contrast between building surfaces and their surrounding areas is mandatory.

With this, design professionals must be conscious of Light Reflectance Values (LRV). LRV is understood as the universal scale used in architecture and interior design and is a way of measuring the amount of visible and usable light that is reflected from a surface when illuminated by a light source. In essence, it is important to assess the contrast between the door facings and ironmongery throughout the specification, with standards recommending an LRV contrast of at least 30 points in order to comply with BS 8300-2:2018.

Consistent by design

The purpose of a consistent finish runs deeper than aesthetics alone. Together with its design benefits, a high-quality, durable material scheme can add value to a project by offering high wear and abrasion resistance, improving the overall usability of door furniture throughout a building’s lifecycle.

Here, the specification of material schemes is often determined by project type and the location of the door itself. Stainless steel finishes for example, while offering clean aesthetics, are designed to add value in kitchen and bathroom spaces by offering naturally high resistance to moisture corrosion. On the other hand, stainless steel can often succumb to the harsh exposure of sunlight and as such, its use should generally be avoided in outside environments.

Similarly, a high-grade physical vapour deposition (PVD) coating is also naturally corrosion resistant, but in addition, it offers users an extremely scratch-resistant surface – making it suitable for high-traffic environments such as hospitals and schools. With this in mind, design professionals must seek the most applicable material scheme throughout their projects, opting for higher grades of materials where necessary. And where a single manufacturer may offer a continuous range of finishes of the same quality, the use of multiple suppliers can truly have an adverse effect.

Comparably, low-cost substitutes are unlikely to match the reliability that premium finishes can offer. Much like users expect the mechanisms of door hardware to last throughout a building’s lifecycle, it is essential for material schemes stand the test of time too. Where ‘natural living’ finishes (such as unlacquered bronze and brass) are purposefully designed to react to the external environment and develop over time with the building, low-quality finishes may begin to fade unintentionally. Protective coatings (such as PVD or lacquered finishes) are designed to retain their quality regardless of the environment in which they’re installed. Even in high-traffic areas, durable designs are more likely to retain their operational benefits over time, while also enduring decorative trends and leaving interiors intact for years to come.

Inherently, decision-makers are urged to chase quality above trends and low-cost substitutes. Where door hardware finishes are concerned, durability and cohesion are key in offering longer-lasting benefits and design professionals must look to work closely with trusted manufacturers and supply chains to ensure their choices match expectations. Because, while styles change and trends come and go, the basis for a high-quality, consistent finish lies within the manufacturing process. After all, the details are always in the design.

Everrati Showcases Redefined and Electrified Land Rover Series IIA At London Concours

Everrati, a leading creator of redefined electric iconic vehicles, is attending the automotive luxury event, London Concours 2023

The leading technology company specialises in the redefining and futureproofing of automotive icons through the integration of cutting-edge electric vehicle (EV) powertrains and will display its electric Land Rover Series IIA at the event.

At the automobile extravaganza, held in the Artillery Gardens of the Honourable Artillery Company’s Headquarters in the heart of London from 6-8 June, Everrati will showcase its redefined icon alongside the world’s finest supercars and classics.

Visitors to the prestigious event will be able to admire and explore Everrati’s timeless Land Rover Series IIA, which has been meticulously redefined as a cutting-edge electric vehicle, offering a unique blend of heritage, luxury, sustainability and future-proofed technology.

Everrati has specifically chosen its Land Rover from its growing portfolio of redefined vehicles to be at the show to celebrate London Concours’ ‘The Cars That Built Land Rover’ – a homage running over the course of the three-day event of classic models that have shaped the brand into what it is today.

Justin Lunny, Co-Founder and CEO of Everrati said:
“London Concours brings together the best in automotive craftmanship and luxury. We are extremely proud to have our redefined Land Rover Series IIA on show as it perfectly aligns with the event’s celebration of motoring prestige and the homage to Maurice Wilkes’ game-changing creation. We look forward to showing visitors how we have redefined this piece of automotive history to the highest standards in the bid to preserve its legacy and be enjoyed by generations to come.”

With a 60kWh battery and 150bhp and 300Nm from its electric motors, it offers both two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive modes and a range of up to 150 miles, almost identical to its combustion-engined past, combined with regenerative braking, AC and DC fast charging capability.

Combined with the very latest in sustainable luxury materials, including the world’s lowest carbon leather for the automotive industry from leading leather manufacturer, Bridge of Weir, it further highlights Everrati’s overall mission for sustainable luxury.
