Match The Cladding with Garador’s Beautiful Cedar Garage Doors

Garador’s beautiful horizontal cedar garage doors are enjoying a surge in popularity. These superb garage doors have become a top choice by developers and renovators, especially on properties where timber cladding has been used on exterior walls.

Garador’s horizontal cedar garage door is constructed from tongue and groove natural solid cedar boards, a design that naturally complements timber cladding.

These timeless garage doors, with their precision-crafted design and glowing red cedar, will enhance the appearance of any home and they also offer many additional advantages.

The red cedar used by Garador is a natural, renewable and eco-friendly material. The cedar is grown in cooler climates which helps the wood develop several self-protective qualities. These make it an especially useful building material for areas where humidity, temperature and cracking are common problems.

While many types of wood will warp and distort when subjected to moisture, cedar stays straight and flat and should last a lifetime if properly maintained. This makes the wood an excellent choice for the British climate.

Garador has also launched a wider board version, the Countryman design, which will give a new, different look to homes and is a good alternative when there is no requirement to match exterior cladding.

Jon Watson, Managing Director of Garador, commented:
“I am delighted to see the growth in popularity of these lovely red cedar doors. They bring natural beauty and warmth to the outside of your home and a unique character only real wood can provide”
Garador’s horizontal cedar doors are built around a box section for maximum rigidity and are available in a wide range of sizes and colour stains. They can be fully automated, including control through Garador’s new BlueSecur smartphone app.

Ebay looks to inspire car lovers at Goodwood Festival of Speed with automotive museum

eBay, the UK’s biggest online automotive marketplace, will be inspiring petrolheads at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed with the eBay Garage – an interactive space, where festival goers can immerse themselves in the world of vehicle parts and accessories.

As part of its presence, eBay will also host a unique museum with a difference. Its carefully-curated exhibits will showcase key automotive developments across the last 75 years, with some items available to buy through the online marketplace – and all funds raised donated to industry charity, Ben.

The eBay Museum has been conceived to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Goodwood Circuit and exhibits will include everything from Stirling Moss, signed period Goodwood programmes and innovative safety features to a Flux Capacitor from the Back to the Future movies.

A host of car experts, enthusiasts and renovators will be on hand to help inspire visitors with talks and demonstrations on the eBay Live Stage. Online car restorer, Matt Armstrong, YouTuber, Becky Evans, and racing driver, Charlie Martin, will be joined by Goodwood legend Duncan Pittaway, talking about their passion for tinkering with cars.

The eBay Garage will also provide space to play games and win eBay goodies, as well as to shop online for parts and accessories.

eBay is the ultimate one-stop-shop for all car parts and accessories and the recently relaunched Certified Recycled programme provides the ultimate peace of mind when buying second hand parts, with all items inspected, warrantied and sourced from end of life vehicles from approved suppliers.

The eBay Garage at Goodwood is just one in a series of events this summer where car enthusiasts will be able to meet the eBay team.

It will also have a presence at the PistonHeads 25th Anniversary party (12 Aug), Ford Fair (13th August), The British Motor Show (17-20th August), German Car Festival (10 September) and the remaining rounds of the Bennetts British Superbikes Championship.

As part of its sponsorship at the British Motor Show, eBay is the Official Partner of the sustainable V8 project, to see if a Ford Mustang can clean up its act using eBay-sourced parts and accessories.
For more information or tickets to the remaining summer events please contact ebay@performancecomms.com

Abloy UK launches new RIBA-approved CPD course

Abloy UK has launched a new RIBA-approved CPD course, explaining the requirements of EN 13637:2015 for electrically controlled exit systems for use on escape doors and how to achieve safe electrically controlled escape doors.

The course, delivered by accredited Abloy experts, explores EN 13637, which was adopted by BSI in August 2015.

The standard covers the application of electrical controls to manage the unauthorised use of escape doors, whether as part of an access control system or just to achieve exit management in situations such as retail stores, hospitals and schools and commercial premises.

As part of the course, attendees will learn that an exit system comprises three elements, tested as a complete escape solution.

The first is an electric controlling device, an initiating element (a resettable illuminated switch), and an electric locking device to secure the door.

The electric locking device will be a fail un-locked device specifically designed to work under a side load to ensure escape, with the durability of the ability to release proven.

Roy Buckingham DipGAI, RegAI, MGAI, Regional Specification Development Manager for London & South East at Abloy UK, explains:

“Escape doors should provide for immediate egress. However, there are instances where buildings need to control escape for security or safety reasons, for example, in a nursery school application.

“What’s more, security and the need to escape can conflict in many situations, and an exit system is the only performance-tested and proven solution.

“Our new RIBA-accredited CPD covers all these areas and details specifying a compliant solution.

“Architects and any other built environment professionals are invited to register for the course to expand and update their knowledge on escape regulations and best practices, and we look forward to welcoming them to the upcoming sessions.”

As well as its commitment to educating the industry about compliant-locking systems, Abloy UK offers a range of electric locking and access control solutions to help meet the required standards.

These include the innovative ePED Escape Door System (EDS) that offers easy access and egress while ensuring compliance, safety and security.

The ePED exit systems provide a compliant solution for an escape door when read-in / read-out access control is specified, combining the three components required for EN 13637.

To register for the CPD, go to https://bit.ly/449R0Nf

For further information on the ePED Escape Door System, or any other products and services available from Abloy, visit www.abloy.co.uk, call 01902 364 500, or email info@abloy.co.uk.

Endurance® Doors embraces current colour trend

Endurance® Doors is enabling design-conscious homeowners to enjoy solid, secure, and stylish exterior doors in a new and highly sought-after colour.

The business, which already offers customers a choice of 85 unique door designs in a palette of 19 different shades, is now manufacturing products in an attractive and on-trend claystone hue.

Russell Hensman, group marketing manager at Endurance Doors, explains:
“At Endurance Doors, we’re proud to manufacture composite doors with a whole host of added and innovative features.
“These features include a profile that’s up to 10% thicker than most other composite doors for greater security and energy efficiency, a more sustainable solid timber core, and a unique moisture barrier system that prevents water ingression at the foot of the door which can cause it to swell and warp.
“But our focus isn’t just on practical performance. We also recognise that form is every bit as important as functionality. The introduction of our doors in a new claystone colour reflects that, as well as our wider appreciation of interior and architectural design.”

According to acknowledged colour experts, including interior designers and major paint manufacturers, the latest colour trends include basic neutrals, warm shades, and vintage-inspired hues. These colours are all proving popular due to their ability to make spaces feel welcoming, calming and comforting.

Other en vogue colours include brown, beiges, and clay shades. These colours, because of their earthy tone, provide a sense of stability and a connection to the natural world. They can add vitality and help make a space feel both cosy and energetic.
Summing up, Russell adds: “The impact exterior doors can have on a property’s overall aesthetic and level of kerb appeal cannot be overstated. As the part of a building which provides access to and from the interior, they are a natural focal point with a major role to play in creating a good first impression.
“Given this importance, Endurance Doors remains committed to expanding our portfolio and to offering homeowners levels of creative freedom that are second to none. We want to ensure we can offer customers the perfect composite door to suit their property, its surrounding area, and their own unique tastes.”

Endurance® Doors is the brand name for Rocal, a group associated with solid and secure composite doors since 2002 and a true product pioneer. Testing has shown that these doors can resist the cut through test of the PAS 24 standard with ease and can even withstand a sledgehammer attack.

Based in Brigg, North Lincolnshire, the company can also boast in-house facilities of tool making, extrusion and foil lamination within the Rocal Group, a business that in March 2021, underwent a management buyout headed by managing director, Stephen Nadin and the senior management team.

Their solid timber core doors boast CoolSkin technology, Rehau PVCu door frames, a unique Moisture Barrier System (MBS) and the use of recycled reinforcement. There are an impressive 19 door finishes available inside and out, along with 79 different door designs in total. The Endurance® brand is now becoming one of the most influential and forward-thinking in the composite door sector.

New Window to the World for ADSA

The Automatic Door Suppliers Association (ADSA) has launched its new website, boasting improved functionality with a brand-new look and feel.

The site has been produced to maximise user experience, with slicker mechanisms for booking courses and events, a member search facility with postcode and mapping features for customers to find products and service providers.

The association’s online presence, www.adsa.org.uk has been developed to reflect its current activity: extensive learning and development content, industry news and updates and independent compliance assessment services.

It offers a fresh new look, with a rolling home page and enhanced connectivity through third party app integration for improved booking/payment processes. It also incorporates social media feeds.

The site has greater clarity and is more intuitive: the online membership application process has been fully digitised and course/event bookings have a Microsoft Outlook calendar interface to allow users to sync events with their own diaries.

ADSA has also included a shop… by public demand. Members asked the association to produce a range of branded workwear which can be personalised with company/name alongside their ADSA credentials.

The clothes range, which includes tee shirts, polos, shirts, fleece jackets and work trousers, has been produced using environmentally friendly/sustainable materials. Profits from the sale of branded merchandise will be reinvested into learning development – benefitting members in all respects.

Ken Price, ADSA’s Managing Director, said:
The redevelopment of the site provided a chance to “review, refocus, and plan for the future”.
“The previous iteration of the site was functional but had started to look a little dated. We wanted to present a new window to the world which said more about the organisation we have become, was easier to use and provided members with new added benefits.
“We think that we have achieved that with a platform that has the scope to incorporate new initiatives and digital services as they continue to be launched.”

Take a look at the new site here - www.adsa.org.uk

Bespoke Folding Shutter Doors for Wigan-Based Cold-Rolled Steel Supplier

Alliance Door Engineering, a leading manufacturer and trade supplier of industrial doors and shutters, has designed bespoke folding shutter doors to secure a building and enhance the production line of a large cold-rolled steel supplier.

The Wigan-based company were initially approached by Shield Industrial, a West Yorkshire-based company that specialises in door maintenance, repairs, and new door installations. The project was to design two folding doors suitable for a loading area for pre-fabricated steel frames, used for modular buildings, at the manufacturing facility of The Hadley Group, in the West Midlands.

This particular project represented quite a challenge as a wide crane beam and conduit was required to protrude through the openings and out of the building so that materials can be transported down the monorail, then lowered by the crane, directly onto a vehicle.

Following the initial contact from Shield Industrial, Alliance got to work on designing a solution.

The specific nature of the site required the doors to be bi-parting, with bespoke, hinged leading edges to ensure the required clear opening dimensions were maintained to allow the large material to pass through.

The works have ensured Hadley Group have a reliable and secure access and egress system which enhances their production and loading processes.

Commenting on the installation, Adam Shaw, managing director of Shield Industrial, said:

“Following consultation with the client, we contacted Alliance’s experienced R&D department to enquire whether a solution could be found to the challenges presenting themselves with this project.

Several sketches, ideas and suggestions were sent back and forth, with the end result being an installation and end product which met with our customer’s requirements perfectly”.

After acquiring Profile Doors in 2007, Alliance Doors commenced manufacturing folding doors in-house, adding to their extensive industrial door and shutter product portfolio which is supplied to trade partners, the length and breadth of the UK and further afield.

For further information about Alliance Door Engineering please visit www.alliancedoors.co.uk or contact their customer service department on 01942 683601 or email: info@alliancedoors.co.uk

Car & Classic hails Le Mans Classic 2023 centenary celebrations with 1959 Le Mans Triumph TR3S likely survivor

If  you couldn't make it to Le Mans Classic this weekend, Car & Classic’s auction of what is likely to be the sole survivor of three Le Mans 1959 Triumph TR3Ss is underway to offer an opportunity to own a piece of Le Mans racing history.

Three TR3Ss were built to compete at the 1959 Le Mans race, sporting lengthened versions of the production cars’ fibreglass bodyshells to accommodate a bigger engine. The partially-restored chassis and body shell #25, which has been in the same family since 1961, is the only one said to have survived, showing plenty of evidence of its past racing history.

No. 25, 26 and 27 TR3Ss participated in 1959 Le Mans, all powered by the Sabrina prototype 2l DOHC race engine; the occasion sparked substantial coverage, and #25’s history is proved by a wide range of receipts, period magazine articles, and photographic evidence.

Whilst it is believed that No. 27 was destroyed by the factory and No. 26 by fire, there is no direct documentation to ascertain the fate of all three TR3Ss, with plenty of speculation weaving into the history and whereabouts of the cars over the next few decades.

The current owner’s father purchased the bodyshell in 1961 to replace a 1955 TR2 which had suffered a crash. A Motor Sport magazine’s advert promoted a “full fibreglass body, ex-Le Mans, unused since” body for £70.

Upon discovering that the engine bay had been lengthened by six inches, an elongated bowl-shaped cut-out had been added (likely to provide clearance for the race engine’s larger SU carburettors), and the engine mountings had also been moved forward, the theory that this engine bay once housed a Sabrina engine was strengthened.

A year later, a TR3 chassis was also added to fit the body shell, together with an MGB steering column; the car was then used sparingly.

Several details hint at the identity of this car: the original blue patch (colour-coding was used to identify different classes and their relative speeds) in the rear is still visible, as is the #25 number on the boot lid in a family photo; the number plate, XHP 939, was the number given to the TR3S No. 25.

“This could be a significant auction for an important part of a British marque’s racing history,” said Car & Classic Head of Customer Success, Ben Brace.
“After decades of efforts by the family to return the car to its likely Le Mans condition, it is time to help to find a new owner to complete the project, and that includes the future addition of a Sabrina engine! The auction is timely, coinciding with the Le Mans Classic weekend races taking place on the occasion of the event’s centenary.”

You can find the latest car auctions on www.carandclassic.com/auctions where the team specialises in enthusiast-owned cars, from the latest modern classics to pre-war and veteran classics, barn finds and concours-winning examples.

IronmongeryDirect and ElectricalDirect Donate Over £5,000 to Local Mental Health Charity

Leading specialist trade suppliers IronmongeryDirect and ElectricalDirect have raised £5,483 in aid of Basildon Mind. Employees at the Essex-based companies took part in a number of fundraising activities across the year in support of this very worthy cause.

Basildon Mind is a local, independent mental health charity, affiliated with but not funded by the national charity, Mind.

The organisation relies on donations to run its services and support people in Basildon, Billericay, and Wickford experiencing mental health difficulties.

The WOW Team at IronmongeryDirect and ElectricalDirect recognised the vital role undertaken by the charity to help people in need and selected Basildon Mind as part of its mission to help local causes.

Steve Macpherson, Head of WOW for IronmongeryDirect and ElectricalDirect, explains:

“The WOW Team is a group of employees who represent each department and work together to organise company events and charity events, and are the voice for all employees across the business.

“Giving back to the community is integral to who we are as a business, and we are very proud to be supporting Basildon Mind this year.

“The charity was chosen as our partner due to the fantastic work they do in providing advice and support to anyone experiencing a mental health problem in our local community.”

By hosting various fundraising activities, the company raised a combined total of £5,483 for the charity.

Their efforts to raise money for Basildon Mind included an employee Christmas raffle, with prizes donated by the companies’ suppliers, and a silent auction, the proceeds of which contributed significantly to the final total.

Denise Kent at Basildon Mind commented:

“We want to thank all the staff at IronmongeryDirect and ElectricalDirect for supporting us and raising this fantastic sum of money to help our cause.

“Their efforts will enable us to keep vital services such as our Side By Side initiative running and provide people in need with support and information about help in their area.

“Side By Side is an online peer support community that means no one has to face their mental health struggles alone – an invaluable resource for many people, which is made possible by generous donations like this.”

IronmongeryDirect has been supplying architectural ironmongery for over 50 years and has the UK’s largest range with over 18,000 products in stock.

ElectricalDirect has over 12,000 electrical products available, with both companies offering a wide choice of flexible delivery options for anyone looking to renovate or embark on a new project.

Customers can choose from next-day delivery or same-day delivery to postcodes in selected areas of London and the East of England, as well as click and collect from 6,500 pick-up points across the UK.
