Okopod Selects Hörmann RollMatic Roller Doors for Striking Nine-Car Garage

Modular building specialist Okopod has specified Hörmann RollMatic roller garage doors for a newly completed nine-car garage project in Cambridge, showcasing the company’s commitment to sustainable design and precision-engineered construction.

Founded in 2019, Okopod has quickly become a leader in the manufacture and supply of eco-friendly modular pods for use as garden rooms, workspaces, and garages. Drawing on lean manufacturing techniques inspired by the automotive sector, the company’s offsite construction process ensures minimal waste, high build quality, and reduced disruption on site.

In one of their most recent installations, Okopod delivered a Scandinavian-inspired garage structure designed to store a collection of classic and performance cars. The double-height garage accommodates up to nine vehicles, thanks to an integrated stack parking system, offering a luxurious yet practical solution that blends seamlessly into family life.

To complement the clean, contemporary exterior, which is clad in vertically arranged, sustainably sourced Red Grandis timber - Okopod selected two fully automated Hörmann RollMatic roller doors for their slim profile, reliable performance, and stylish modern aesthetic. A double-width door (6000mm x 2100mm) and single-width door (2600mm x 2100mm) were installed, both finished in Anthracite Grey (RAL 7016) to perfectly match the garage’s refined, minimalist palette.

“Our design ethos is rooted in the belief that less is more,” says James Home, Founder of Okopod. “This project is all about celebrating materials and craftsmanship. The Hörmann doors provided the perfect balance of function and form - elegant, discreet, and built to last.”

The Hörmann roller doors were supplied and installed by Fenland Garage Doors, ensuring smooth integration into the structure. The slimline fit of the RollMatic doors allow for maximum internal clearance, while offering the robust security and convenience demanded for the high-value vehicles housed within.

ADSA is TAF Awards Finalist

The Automatic Door Suppliers Association (ADSA) has been announced as a finalist in the Marketing Campaign of the Year category at the prestigious Trade Association Forum (TAF) Awards 2026.

The nomination recognises ADSA’s year-long anniversary initiative, ‘Opening Doors for 40 Years’, delivered in partnership with Tillymint Marketing & PR.

The integrated campaign marked ADSA’s 40th anniversary by celebrating its heritage while amplifying its ongoing role as the leading authority on safety, standards and competency within the powered pedestrian door industry.

Running from January to December 2025, the campaign combined member engagement, industry collaboration, digital content and targeted PR to reinforce ADSA’s position as the trusted voice of the sector.

Key elements included the launch of a ruby-themed anniversary sub-brand, an animated historical timeline, a special anniversary edition of Opening Doors, refreshed exhibition materials, and a series of high-profile events such as the ADSA Charity Golf Day, Gala Dinner and the ADSA on Tour programme.

Sustained communications - social media, member e-bulletins and proactive communications - kept anniversary storytelling at the forefront throughout the year.

The campaign delivered significant measurable impact:

· Website traffic up 170% year-on-year

· Social media engagement up 40%

· Membership growth of 11% and 97% retention

· 52 pieces of trade media coverage with 100% positive sentiment

· Record participation in member events and widespread use of 40th anniversary assets across the sector.

Ken Price, Managing Director of ADSA, said: “We are delighted to be shortlisted for Marketing Campaign of the Year. Our 40th anniversary was a milestone worth marking, but more importantly, it was an opportunity to highlight the ongoing value, expertise and professionalism within our industry. This recognition is a wonderful way to end our anniversary year.”

The TAF Awards celebrate the achievements of UK trade associations, highlighting excellence in leadership, innovation and member value. Winners will be announced at the TAF Awards ceremony in February 2026.

How to avoid common door hardware problems

Door hardware may feel like a small consideration in an entire doorset, but its role in fire safety, security and accessibility is huge. Components such as handles, locks, closers and hinges take constant wear – and any failure can compromise building compliance in an instant.

By Andy Syms, national sales manager, HOPPE (UK)

Most hardware issues stem from poor installation, inappropriate product choice or overlooked maintenance. However, these problems are entirely avoidable with the right approach.

Installation: where many problems begin

Poor alignment, incorrect fixings or the wrong product for the door’s category of use are all frequent culprits.

Locks that don’t latch properly, handles that work loose within months, or closers that slam or refuse to latch are more often the result of installation errors than manufacturing defects.

According to the BS EN 1906 standard for lever handles and knob furniture, different categories of use are designed to cope with very different levels of traffic and abuse.

For example, a Grade 4 handle for a stadium will withstand far more than a Grade 1 product for a light-use internal door. Installing the wrong grade is setting the door up for early failure.

On fire doors, the stakes are even higher. Every hinge, closer and lock must be compatible with the door’s fire test evidence and fitted exactly as tested. A minor deviation at installation can invalidate certification.

To mitigate risks early on, it is crucial to use the manufacturer’s templates and fixings and check alignment before final tightening; even a few millimetres off can cause binding against seals.

For fire doors, all components must match the door’s fire test evidence and CE/UKCA marking.

Finally, the door should be fully tested before sign-off, including latch engagement against any smoke or draught seals.

Maintenance: the most overlooked safeguard

Once in place, hardware is often ignored until it breaks. Yet regular maintenance is not just good practice – it is a legal requirement.

As per the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must ensure that a maintenance routine is undertaken and logged for all architectural ironmongery.

The Guild of Architectural Ironmongers (GAI) recommends monthly checks on high-use doors and quarterly inspections elsewhere, and records should be kept as part of the building’s safety file.

Typical maintenance tasks are straightforward: tightening fixings, lubricating moving parts with the manufacturer’s approved products, and cleaning with mild detergent and a soft cloth. Silicone sprays, for example, can damage lock cylinders, while abrasive cleaners will strip protective coatings.

Warning signs include handles that don’t return to horizontal, dragging or misaligned doors, closers leaking fluid, or corrosion appearing in high-humidity areas. These should be acted on immediately.

On a fire door, any of these issues can reduce its ability to perform when it matters most.

Manufacturers often provide their own maintenance guides, such as these helpful videos on how to maintain the ARRONE, a HOPPE Group brand, AR1500 door closer and the AR880 single panic bolt.

Retrofit and upgrades: more than a like-for-like swap

Replacing hardware is not simply a case of fitting the same product again. Changes in building use, regulations or environmental conditions can all mean a higher-grade or more durable finish is needed.

Air gaps, for example, are a common oversight. Excessive clearance between leaf and frame can seriously reduce fire, acoustic and security performance. BS 8214 recommends 2–4 mm for timber-based fire doors, and the gap should be checked as part of any retrofit.

Environments such as coastal locations or swimming pools demand higher corrosion resistance than standard stainless steel. Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) coatings or marine-grade alloys can extend service life dramatically.

Meeting corporate ESG goals as well as green building certification requirements is now a key consideration in door hardware specification. When this is combined with proper maintenance, it maximises both performance and environmental value over the product’s lifecycle.

Specifying products with Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), such as those manufactured by HOPPE (UK) and ARRONE, guarantees they possess verified data on their life-cycle environmental impact. EPDs are not yet compulsory in the UK but they may be in the future, and they are fast becoming part of the product specification decision making process.

A simple troubleshooting mindset

Whether during installation or a maintenance round, the same principle applies: identify the cause, not just the symptom.

If a door refuses to latch, is it a faulty lock – or a dropped hinge? If a handle feels loose, is the return spring worn, or are the fixings the wrong type?

Looking beyond the obvious saves time, money and repeat call-outs, while retaining compliance.

The long view

The best-performing door hardware is the result of three disciplines working together: correct product specification, competent installation, and planned preventative maintenance. Skimping on any of these almost guarantees problems later.

For facilities teams, contractors and anyone responsible for maintaining compliance and keeping a building’s doors in working order a proactive approach pays back many times over – not just in fewer breakdowns, but in maintaining the security, accessibility and compliance that good hardware is there to provide.

CLD announces brand merge with Cova Security Gates

CLD Physical Security Systems (CLD) has announced a brand merge with Cova Security Gates, a market leader in hostile vehicle mitigation (HVM) and automated access solutions.

In 2024, CLD acquired Cova Security Gates as part of its long-term growth strategy to strengthen its position in the high-security sector. This enabled closer collaboration between the two businesses, and the formal brand merge marks the next stage of integration, bringing together their combined expertise under the CLD brand.

The brand merge creates a single trusted partner that strategically partners with clients to mitigate risks and offers design solutions for perimeter protection with one of the most comprehensive product portfolios available. Customers will benefit from streamlined access to perimeter security, automated access control, and hostile vehicle mitigation solutions.

CLD’s vast experience in global perimeter security and Cova’s industry-leading HVM and access control technologies will deliver an expanded range of solutions, all designed to help organisations mitigate evolving risks across critical infrastructure, data centres, and other high-security applications.

In addition, Cova’s established service and maintenance packages will be incorporated into CLD’s offering, ensuring customers benefit from enhanced aftercare and long-term support.

For customers, it will be business as usual in the short term, with no disruption to product availability or delivery. Cova’s products will transition into the CLD portfolio as the new Cova Range, sitting alongside existing ranges such as Securus and FenceSafe. While names may change, the products remain the same trusted solutions that the market recognises.

As part of the brand merge, all teams are being integrated into a single organisational structure, supported by comprehensive training to ensure staff have full knowledge of the entire product portfolio. While CLD and Cova will continue to operate from their respective offices, day-to-day operations are fully aligned, with both businesses working seamlessly as one unified team.

Looking ahead, the brand merge will also increase research and development capacity, supporting the launch of innovative new products to meet future security challenges, and recruitment is also ongoing across sales and operations.

Russell Wells, CEO of CLD Physical Security Systems, commented: “This brand merge represents a significant milestone for both companies. By bringing together CLD and Cova, we are creating a single trusted source for perimeter protection, offering customers a wider product range, enhanced services, and the reassurance of working with a global leader in physical security. Our focus remains on delivering innovative, resilient, and reliable solutions for critical infrastructure and beyond.”

Bespoke Rallies Revives the Legendary 1948 GRAND PRIX OF SOUTH AMERICA

This extraordinary event revived the spirit of the legendary 1948 race, famously dubbed the “greatest ever road race”; a thrilling experience in the footsteps of history, fantastic routes, multiple vehicle classes and competition all the way.

Driving in the wheel tracks of such icons as Fangio and the Galvez brothers, the rally began with a dramatic midnight departure from Buenos Aires being flagged off by Oscar Fangio, son of the great man himself. Over the next 30 days, entrants navigated nearly 11,000 km through some of South America's most breath-taking and challenging terrain, crossing Argentine, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia, and concluding in the vibrant coastal city of Cartagena.

Key Highlights:
  • Immersive Itinerary: A 32-day adventure featuring two start days, 20 driving days, eight rest days, and a celebratory finale. Participants will enjoy a stunning route, hotel accommodation on each night, VIP receptions in cities along the route, support from local car clubs, and a place in motorsport history.
  • Historic Legacy: The rally honours the original 1948 heroes, the “Knights of the Road”, who displayed generosity, camaraderie, and grit during the race. The legendary Stage 7 incident involving Fangio will be symbolically recreated by supporting fellow competitors in need. A special title, "El Caballero del Camino" (Knight of the Road), will be awarded on the last night’s dinner in 2026.
  • Support: Mechanical, medical, and logistical support ensures safety and vehicle integrity throughout. Full coordination with border authorities pre-arranged.

“The Grand Prix of South America remains a coveted event for many seasoned rally drivers who’ve already conquered other continents. Re-tracing the route of the greatest road race ever promises an extraordinary experience for all participants; veterans and novices alike,” said John Brigden, Rally Director.

From open day to every day: what makes IDD-Parts UK the whole package?

IDD-Parts UK, originally established in Holland, opened its Huddersfield site in June. The Door Industry Journal was happy to visit the official open day in June then later returned to speak with Country Manager Thomas about how day-to-day operations have progressed since the launch period, here’s what we found out…

Part of the launch

The October open day set the tone for how IDD-Parts UK intends to operate in the UK. Rather than a formal industry event, the team chose to create a relaxed and open environment supported by artisan coffee and locally made craft pizza from local businesses: Pizza 112 & The Joyful Bean Collective, plus support from FastSigns – Huddersfield and Leeds Drone Services.

Thomas explains the approach simply. The company wants customers to feel welcome from the moment they arrive, whether they are attending an open day or visiting on an ordinary working day. The intention is to reflect the kind of partnership IDD-Parts UK aims to build: practical, accessible and customer focused.

Part of the daily experience

Although the Huddersfield base uses a fully digital ordering system, IDD-Parts UK maintains the feel of a traditional trade counter. Installers are encouraged to visit, ask questions and collect products in person if they can – with a coffee machine and dart board if they have time!

All customers register through the IDD-Parts UK webshop. They receive an account similar to other popular platforms, such as Amazon, with the option to pay per order or apply for a line of credit. Customers can create their own quotations or request support from tech team.

As soon as an online order is placed, it appears immediately on the internal system in Huddersfield. The team checks stock, picks and packs the order and prepares it for dispatch. With delivery coverage from Aberdeen to Cornwall, IDD-Parts UK is structured to support customers in every part of the UK.

Part of the team

Technical support comes from the five-person UK team and also from IDD-Parts UKs’ wider technical and R&D departments in Holland. This includes access to the engineers who design and build many of the components. Having direct communication with product designers gives installers valuable insight when precision is required.

The company’s online spring calculator is another tool that helps ensure accuracy before ordering. Confirming specifications early reduces delays and prevents unnecessary returns.

Thomas is clear about the importance of getting things right. If IDD-Parts UK is going to be part of an installer’s project, then information and components must be accurate from the start.

Part of the UK market

One of the biggest benefits for UK customers is how much easier ordering has become. Before the Huddersfield base opened, many installers had to buy directly from Holland, which meant paying in euros and dealing with customs and extra paperwork.

Now everything runs through the UK. The stock is here, the prices are in pounds and orders move quickly without the added hassle. It makes the whole process more straightforward and helps installers get the parts they need without delays.

Thomas knows how important this is because he used to be a customer himself. Having experienced both sides, he understands how much difference local stock and reliable delivery make when you are trying to keep jobs on schedule.

Part of the future

IDD-Parts UK plans to host further open days as an ongoing element of its customer engagement. The message is simple: installers are always welcome to visit, view stock and seek assistance.

The company also has longer-term plans. A new showroom and a dedicated training area are scheduled for development in 2026. These facilities will support product demonstrations, practical training sessions and technical guidance.

Thomas explains that these investments are designed to add value beyond supply. Training and technical support will be an increasingly important part of the company’s role in the UK market.

Part of the family

Across every aspect of the new UK operation, accessibility stands out as the defining theme. Whether through the webshop, technical support, stocked items ready for immediate dispatch or a simple open-door policy, IDD-Parts UK aims to fit smoothly into the daily operations of installers and service teams.

Thomas summarises the approach clearly. The objective is to make partnering with IDD-Parts UK straightforward. If customers need information, someone will answer. If they want to call, the team is available. If they want to visit, the (industrial) door is open, and the coffee machine is on.

Partnering with Lysander, FBS Hörmann have supplied and fitted high security access gates and automatic car park barriers at a new, state-of-the-art, secure warehousing facility in Kettering

Two high-security, heavy duty FBS5800 Automatic Cantilever gates have been installed to secure the entrance and exit of the transport yard. Measuring 7800mm x 2400mm and 6000mm x 2400mm respectively, the gates are manufactured from high strength steel. The unique design of the gates means that a ground track is not required making them particularly suited for areas of consistent heavy traffic movement. Both gates have been finished in RAL 6005 Moss Green.

FBS Hörmann undertook all the civil works required to install the foundation padstones onto which the gates were fixed and due to rising ground levels on the site a channel was created into which the gates run as they open. To protect the area around the opening gate, security fencing was installed to comply with current legislation and Armco barriers were also installed to provide an additional level of protection.

Work to the employee car park included the installation of two FBS3850 Heavy Duty Automatic Barriers with access control via an Intercom system. The barriers are fitted with a bottom skirt, LED boom lights and integrated Pogo tip support in the skirt. 12 high visibility stainless steel bollards have also been installed and positioned to create a one-way system.

FBS Hörmann also supplied and installed 31 large stone boulders around the perimeter of the car park to provide an aesthetically pleasing, yet effective method of perimeter protection to comply with planning conditions.

Commenting on the installation, Phil MacAndrew Technical Field Sales at FBS Hörmann, “Having access to a wide range of Perimeter systems, which includes gates, barriers, and bollards, we were able to work with Lysander to specify and fit a solution which suited their clients specific site requirements. With our own installation teams we were able to offer them the assurance that the whole team are highly qualified and skilled, plus the fact they are able to fulfil the more unusual requirements such as the installation of the boulders surrounding the car park.”

Working closely with Lysander, Hörmann provided a comprehensive turnkey solution, managing every stage of the project from initial consultation and site surveying to product specification, installation, and final sign-off. Their team worked seamlessly alongside other contractors on-site, ensuring smooth coordination and timely project delivery.

Building Better Together: Ellard and Marantec Germany – A Partnership You Can Rely On

In the industrial door industry, reliability isn’t just about products, it’s about people. Installers and engineers need suppliers who understand their challenges, respond quickly, and make their work easier. For Ellard, that’s always been the focus: combining dependable products with the service, knowledge, and support that keep projects running smoothly.

That philosophy has shaped Ellard’s long-standing partnership with Marantec Germany. Built on shared values of quality, innovation, and integrity, the partnership brings together Marantec Germany’s renowned motor technology and Ellard’s understanding of the UK market. Together, they deliver solutions that are simple to install, built to last, and supported by people who care about getting it right.

At the heart of this collaboration is Ellard’s Promax+ control panel, developed to complement the strength and precision of the Marantec MDF motor range. The two work seamlessly together to create a true plug-and-play system that saves time and reduces complexity on site. Digital limit setting, clear fault messages, and modular plug-in options make installations faster and troubleshooting easier, small details that make a big difference for busy installers.

Every aspect of the Promax+ has been shaped by real-world feedback. The goal wasn’t to reinvent what already works, but to refine it, producing a system that’s intuitive, adaptable, and ready to perform straight out of the box. When paired with Marantec’s proven motors, the result is a clean, reliable, and professional finish every time.

All Marantec products are manufactured in Mainland Europe and assembled in Germany, where every motor and component is built to the brand’s exacting standards. That German-made quality is the foundation of the range’s reputation for reliability and performance, and it’s the same trusted source for every Marantec motor supplied through Ellard.

Beyond technology, what customers value most about Ellard is its approach to service. With extensive UK stock and responsive technical support, help is always at hand. Whether it’s product advice, on-site guidance, or after-sales care, Ellard’s team brings a practical, collaborative attitude to every job. It’s this steady consistency, rather than big promises, that has built lasting trust among installers and distributors alike.

Ellard’s partnership with Marantec Germany continues to grow from that same foundation of respect and shared purpose. Both companies focus on creating products that not only meet technical standards but also make everyday installation work simpler and safer. It’s a relationship centred on listening, learning, and supporting those who use the products every day.

In an industry where reliability and service go hand in hand, Ellard is proud to work alongside Marantec Germany in delivering dependable, easy-to-use solutions backed by real people and genuine experience. For customers, it means confidence, knowing they have the right products, the right support, and a partner they can count on.
