The biggest car auction of the year is to be held by Coys, the international car auctioneers, at Blenheim Palace on Saturday July 14th when over a 120 vehicles will go under the hammer.

The auction will be held at Sir Winston Churchill’s birthplace and will see the eighth annual Concours d’Elegance, which is free to enter and open to anyone with an interest in cars.

“We have some amazing and unique cars that will be on sale and, undoubtedly, such a magnificent venue takes the event to another level. This is the biggest auction of the year,” said Chris Routledge, the Managing Director of Coys.

He added: “We already have some interesting cars attending the Concours d’Elegance including a Ferrari 212 Inter, Ronnie Hoare’s C-Type Jaguar, an Alfa 8C Monza and an Auburn 851 Speedster from the National Motor Museum.”

“But the whole point is that anyone can turn up and put their car into the Concours and have the potential for winning a price. The car doesn’t have to be exotic it could be a Mini or a Ford Anglia, the point of the Concours is to show cars right across the collecting spectrum.”

Classes will include“The Churchill Trophy” for best car of the day, the COYS “Spirit of Motoring” to celebrate the epitome of the motoring enthusiast and “The Kensington Trophy” for the most elegant design.

Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire www.blenheimpalace.com
The sale is already attracting interest from around the world and has a unique collection of vehicles, including a fine selection of micro cars, a 1965 Morris Mini Cooper S recreated to the Italian Job specifications and the Jaguar Legend collection, with several E-Types, a SS100, a SS Tourer and various models of the XK and MK series, amongst others.

A number of cars owned by famous personalities will also be auctioned, including a 1954 Rolls-Royce that belonged to Dirk Bogard, a 1972 Volkswagen Karman Ghia once owned by Kelly Jones and Javier Weyler of Stereophonics.

The auction also features a 1927 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Playboy Roadster, first owned by Tom Mix, the biggest cowboy star of the silent era, who got the car modified and updated. After his death, the car was shortly owned by Bette Davies and then went into the Warner Brothers' movie fleet, and over the next thirty years it was to be seen in such classic films as Giant, The FBI Story, and even Inside Daisy Clover, in which it was driven by Robert Redford.

“We are proud to have this exceptionally handsome Phantom I with a glittering Hollywood history, this magnificent roadster, with rumble seat, is sure to be the star of any significant event”, said Chris Routledge.

“The sale and the Concours will be a fantastic day out for all motoring enthusiasts. There will be something for everybody whether they are intending bidding on a car on the sale or not. It will be a great opportunity to see an amazing cross-section of classic and high-performance cars from worldwide manufacturers”, he concluded.

Viewing will be open to public on Friday 13th July from 12:00am to 6:00pm and on the day of the sale from 10:00am to the start of auction.

Who are you calling entrepreneur?

Research among 1,200 owners reveals the term “entrepreneur” is too far removed from the reality of business in the 21st century

British entrepreneurialism is thriving*, yet those who refer to themselves as entrepreneurs may be a dying breed, according to new research from business software and services provider Sage. In the current challenging economic climate just 4% of small business owners think of themselves as entrepreneurs.

At a time when entrepreneurs are regularly cited as the key to revitalising the UK economy, Sage’s research has revealed that the overwhelming majority of people on the front line of this revolution feel no connection with the term. The Sage Omnibus of more than 1,200 business minds found that “business owner” (53%), “self employed” (26%) and “businessman/woman” (15%) are the most popular terms people use to describe themselves, underlining the very gritty and real nature of running a business in 21st century Britain.

The survey, which explored how business owners perceive themselves and the qualities needed to succeed, also found that over two out of three participants (70%) see a person’s vision and drive as key attributes for success and 14% cite numerical or business acumen as the critical requirement.

The research also highlights the strong link between entrepreneurs and innovation in the mind of 21st century business owners. Almost half of all respondents (44%) believe that an entrepreneur is someone who has ideas that bring innovations to business – a central component to succeed for 14% of those surveyed, but just one in four (25%) associate the term with someone who sets up or runs their own business.

Lee Perkins, Managing Director for Sage’s Small Business Division, explained: “The survey suggests that the current crop of business owners find it hard to relate to the term entrepreneur. They think of an entrepreneur as someone who has innovation in their DNA, but not necessarily the drive or basic business skills to succeed. Ideas are vital, but for a business to discover its true potential the company must be grounded in reality and guided by an owner with a sound understanding of financial information.”

In addition to the economic factors leading to changing business perceptions, there is a feeling amongst respondents that the term entrepreneur describes someone who is an ideas generator and somewhat removed from their business. Whilst Sir Richard Branson and Sir James Dyson are seen as hugely successful entrepreneurs, they could also be seen as a barrier to most people identifying with the term entrepreneur.

“At a time when the UK Government is introducing measures to support start-ups and small businesses through incentives and grant support, translating new business goals and ideas into reality is a significant possibility for many. Pairing the right combination of business planning with drive and passion is the key to long term success,” added Perkins.

* The number of new businesses being created is, according to figures from Companies House, now at its highest level since before the 2008 recession. 396,000 new companies were formed in the year from March 2010 to March 2011. This constituted an increase of 9.4 percent on the previous year.

Carlo Gavazzi Launches Wireless Safety System for Industrial Doors

Gavazzi system replaces cumbersome and easily-damaged spiral cables between the controller and door in both internal and external locations.

Carlo Gavazzi has launched the WSM wireless safety system for use with safety edges on large industrial doors, eliminating easily-damaged spiral cables between the door controller and door.  Using an operating frequency of 2.4Ghz to prevent common radio interference, the system is compatible with a wide range of safety edges and delivers enhanced battery efficiency for a reliable and safe solution in applications such as high speed doors with frequent traffic, tall doors, megadoors and doors in public areas.

Delivering a 10 metre range for use in doors with opening heights up to 20 metres, each system comprises a main controller that connects to the door control panel and up to four wireless sub controllers that connect to the safety edge on the door.  The IP66 rated system is suited for internal and external locations and will work with the Carlo Gavazzi photoelectric safety edge and many mechanical and conductive rubber safety edges.

The WSM2BA2D24 main controller with built in antenna features three SPST relay outputs; one normally closed (NC), one normally open (NO) 8.2kΩ, and one normally closed for low battery alarm.  A test input ensures verification of the sensor safety function and is also used for activating sub modules from battery save mode.  Any loss of communication between the main and sub controller modules will immediately activate the safety output.  16 channels are available to eliminate cross talk and the sub controller’s active time can be set from 10 to 80 seconds.

The WSS2BA2BAT sub controller unit is able to handle two safety edges and one door-in-door limit switch, which allows for eight safety edges per system.  It can control inputs from all standard NO 8.2kΩ safety edges and all standard NC safety edges.  Designed for exceptional battery performance; based on the sub controller being powered by four lithium AA batteries and 10 seconds of active time per open and close cycle and 25 cycles per day, the battery expectancy is 5 years.

The Carlo Gavazzi photoelectric safety edge consists of an emitter and receiver housed in 11mm rubber profiles.  Providing a range of 15 metres and powered by the sub controller, the photoelectric beam is adjusted at each wake up signal from the main controller to ensure optimal detection performance.

Visit the Carlo Gavazzi UK website for more about their products.

ENERGY SAVINGS THANKS TO LASER TECHNOLOGY

BEA Laser scanner type LZR-i180 was awarded with the innovation prize on the 2012 R+T Fair in Stuttgart earlier this year.
Nowadays, topics like energy savings and environmental protection have become a big concern and gain significant publicity. In this regard, we would like to draw your attention to the potential for reducing energy losses associated with industrial doors.
Previous solution statements referred to minimising the clearance under the door manually and to the quality of insulation used within the door panels. Yet the improvements obtained did not prevent big energy losses, especially when the door was opened fully.
Now the calculation is quite simple: with a 4x4 meter standard door, there is a gap of 16 sqm and warm air can get in and out through it. In order to address this issue and working in co-operation between the companies BEA and Novoferm (TST and Tormatic), a special LASER- and control board system (i-Control) for industrial doors was developed.
Thanks to an accurate adjustment of the door opening height, the energy losses per door are reduced to a large extent.
How does this system work?
By installing a BEA laser scanner above the door, it is positioned to scan downwards towards the ground, at an angle (see illustrations). During the door opening cycle, the laser scanner detects any object, vehicle or person, until the opening under the door is just overlooking the height of the object.
When the right height is reached, the laser scanner reports the information to a special door control board, which stops the door in such a way that the door opening will be just a little higher than the target passing under the door.
The cost-benefit-ratio can be estimated individually according to different factors through special developed programs.
The results are clear: thanks to this system, energy losses can be reduced up to 50% per door! This means there are a lot of benefits for the users and for the environment: less carbon footprint, optimized heating costs and for employees, the comfort of a warmer industrial environment to work within.
BEA, a Belgian company, is a member of the Door and Hardware Federation and a worldwide producer of sensors for automatic, industrial and pedestrian doors.
The two images above and right show how the i-Control system adapts the door opening height to the size of the object.
To find out more visit the Bea website.

Lakes Garage Doors Launches Brand New Online Showroom

Lakes Garage Doors have launched their brand new website in order to showcase their entire range of garage doors online.

The site, beautifully showcases the extensive range of garage doors available for supply and installation by the company. A key benefit of the new site is that it makes it easy and straightforward for visitors to navigate to the products which suit their needs; be that sectional garage doors, automatic gates, roller garage doors or in fact any of the product lines which the company offers.

Lakes Garage Doors supply a range of door types, suitable for almost all applications, and are now offering products from major manufacturers including Novoferm, Garador, Cedar Doors, Garage Door Systems, Teckentrup and Gliderol. In addition, following a recent rapid growth in gate automation, the company is now offering automatic gate supply and installation, as well as the option to automate your existing gates, a service which is proving to be extremely popular since its introduction.

As a family business which has been established for over 17 years, based in Garstang in the North West of England, the launch of a brand new website ensures that the company can expand their focus and continue to offer supply and installation services across the entire mainland UK. The easy-to-use website and brand new ‘get a quote’ feature ensures visitors can very simply and quickly request a quote for a specific product, either for supply-only or fully installed.

James Darnell of Lakes Garage Doors commented on the company’s new website, saying, “Our old website had been looking very dated and was lacking that ‘wow factor’ when comparing it with others. We wanted something which was very easy to navigate and for potential customers to make an enquiry with us, yet something which looked amazing! With a large expansion of our product ranges in recent months, we needed a website which showcased these clearly and effectively, allowing us to target a national marketplace with both our supply and installation services.”

Darnell continues, “The majority of people in the UK now use the internet to research and make enquiries when looking for products and services and it’s simply not an option for us not to take advantage of that. Whilst in the past, taking a national approach to business meant extensive press and media advertising campaigns, the internet allows companies such as ourselves to supply and offer installations to the whole of the UK. Location is now almost irrelevant as our shop window is our website.”

The Lakes Garage Doors’ brand new website is now live and can be seen here.

The works D-Type OKV 1 stole the show at the Vernasca Silver Flag hill climb in Italy

The first works D-Type OKV 1, which came second at Le Mans in 1954 and is prepared by *Classic Motor Cars of Bridgnorth in Shropshire, won the award for Best of Show at this year’s Vernasca Silver Flag event. The driver, James Baxter from Huddersfield, received a trophy that was a replica of the car sculptured by one of the organisers of the event, Claudio Casali.

This year the Silver Flag event celebrated “The best of British” and the winning trophies had been modelled on the famous D-Type.

“It was fantastic that the car on which the trophies were based won an award,” said James Baxter. “The car got a fantastic welcome when it turned up and received a great deal of attention all over the weekend of June 16th and 17th.”

On hand to congratulate the driver and the car was Norman Dewis, Jaguar’s famous test driver, who along with David Piper were special guests at the event.

Every year the famous hill climb, which attracts cars from all over Europe and beyond, celebrates a particular marquee and this year the organisers wanted to attract the best of British. Enthusiasts responded by bringing a huge cross section of cars.

Including a 1933 Riley Brooklands owned by Tomas de Vargas Machuca, the Managing Director of HERO Events, which won best pre war car.

Marques included Aston Martin, Frazer Nash, AC, Cooper, March, Lotus, Alvis and many more.

* Founded in 1993, Classic Motor Cars of Bridgnorth provides within a Jaguar restoration service to the highest possible standard. It is recognised as one of the worlds leading, if not the leading restorer of classic Jaguars and is responsible for restoring some of the most historic Jaguars ever built.

A Black Eye For Teckentrup...

After a very successful summer promotion that was extended to the winter months and featured a "colourful" eye and an "iced" eye as its signature, Teckentrup now has a black eye!

The black eye heralds the arrival of black as a trend colour (Trend colours are the most popular garage door colours that Teckentrup holds as coated steel from which door panels are made to order). Black is a rarity for sectional garage doors, yet Teckentrup is introducing two shades - RAL 9005 JET BLACK as a flat colour and, for extra impact, TT 9011 GRAPHITE BLACK  (TT refers to the micaceous iron ore particles that creates a stunning matt metallic effect).

Jim Rodger, the Teckentrup Depot's Sales Director commented - "We're often asked for black and we know it is a colour in demand. We've overcome the technical challenges that black presents and are delighted to give our customers yet another reason to win sales with Teckentrup products."

For full details of the new colours and a sample contact Jim Rodger on 01925 924050
