Garador Garage Doors are a Picture!

When Bristol’s major garage door supplier Up and Over Doors wanted to create a splash at the recent Taunton Flower Show, they turned to Garador’s top selling up and over steel garage door.

With the help of talented street artist Conrico Steez, the Garador door was painted with a beautiful flower mural to create a huge stunning visual that pulled in the crowds.

A spokesman for Bristol’s Up and Over Doors said their trade stall at the show attracted an amazing amount of interest, with visitors watching the live show of Connor painting the picture.

“It was a novel and lovely idea,” said Garador’s Managing Director, Jon Watson. “The ultra smooth surface of our standard Up and Over Doors created a perfect surface and the completed picture was really beautiful.”
For more information about the Garador product range go to www.garador.co.uk or to arrange a site survey and quotation visit www.upandoverdoorsltd.co.uk.

Comp Door: Strata Windows’ Client Testimonial

Established in 1981, Staffordshire-based Strata Windows have been leading the windows and doors industry, serving both the commercial and domestic sectors with their impressive ranges of uPVC, hardwood, aluminium and composite products.

Boasting a loyal customer base of thousands, Strata Windows has supplied generations of the same families and has successfully become the preferred supplier of schools, architects, colleges and specifiers.

Strata Windows have been able to sustain such enviable levels of success for more than three decades because they have remained genuinely interested in hearing what their customers have to say and have proactively kept across evolving market demands, while continuously providing valuable training and development opportunities to their long-standing members of staff.

With such an impressive reputation among their customers and clients, Strata Windows are conscious of the products they supply and the companies they choose to do business with.

Taking this into consideration, it seems inevitable that Strata Windows were quick to begin supplying fellow Staffordshire company Comp Door’s solid timber core composite doors, the first part-L compliant door of its kind.

Since beginning their relationship in August 2022, the two companies have sustained a successful partnership, with Strata’s impressive and expansive showroom now home to one of Comp Door’s product displays.

Comp Door and Strata began working together as a result of mutual respect and good timing.

Comp Door had been aware of Strata’s exceptional reputation and knew of its impressive achievement of being named a Which? Trusted Trader, so were keen to make contact with them.

Sales Director for Comp Door, Richard Diliberto made his initial call to Strata just as they were beginning to look for a new supplier.

Recounting the interaction, Strata’s Managing Director, Rob Dale says:

“Our showroom is well known in the local area for the 4 full size conservatory and orangery style buildings we have, complete with all the latest doors and roofs available.

“And after experiencing some disruption with the supply of composite entrance doors from our previous supplier, Richard Diliberto’s phone call from Comp Door couldn’t have come at a better time.”

Rob goes on to further explain:

“The guys at Comp Door have been a great help in getting us set up. They’re always there to help and have been quick to resolve any issues we’ve had.

“In fact, our Operations Director, Paul, who used to be a fitter has worked alongside Comp Door’s technical Director, Pierre, to develop Comp Door’s next new product launch, the stable door.

“The product not only looks great and is good quality, but it is also very reasonably priced and we’ve already sold 75 doors since October, and we’re on track to sell a further 60 by Christmas!

“The new additions to our showroom always catch the eye of visitors. Comp Door has kitted us out with 5 working doors including a fully glazed set of French doors, as well as 6 slabs, a POS board of styles and a hardware board showing the Coastal Blu range.

“One feature of a Comp Door solid timber core composite door that our customers have really appreciated, particularly our older clients, is the auto-fire slam shut lock as standard.

“This has proved a real selling point for homeowners that have struggled to operate doors with single latch and lift levers.

“Comp Door’s standard automatic multi-point locking system features four self-locking, deadbolt latches that activate when the door is closed.

“This keeps the door latched at all times over the full height of the door, requiring no homeowner intervention as with a single latch and lift lever, thus eliminating the chance of the door not being secured properly, and helps to combat excessive thermal movement that causes warping or bowing associated with some other brands.”

For more information about Comp Door, you can visit them at London Rd, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Newcastle ST5 7PL.

You can go to their website at www.compdoor.co.uk, call them on 01782 340444, or email them at info@compdoor.co.uk.

Alternatively, you can learn more about Comp Door’s range by visiting Strata Windows’s showroom at Forge Lane, Festival Park, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, ST1 5NP, call them on 01782 279081 or view their website at www.stratawindows.co.uk.

Rhino Aluminium renew membership with Secured by Design

Manufacturers of Aluminium Bi-folding Doors and Aluminium Windows, Rhino Aluminium has renewed its membership with Secured by Design (SBD), the official police security initiative.

Established in 2012 the directors of Rhino Aluminium had identified the lack of Aluminium fabricators in the industry that were able to deliver an excellent product coupled with a good level of customer service.

Rhino Aluminium are a third-generation family business based in the southeast of the United Kingdom and supplies both to the trade and to the domestic residential & commercial markets. They joined Secured by Design in 2020 and have a range of windows and doorsets which have achieved the Police Preferred Specification for their security.

Rhino Aluminium commented:
“We are proud to continue our partnership with Secured by Design. Holding SBD approval for our Aluminium Window and Door products for some years now demonstrates our commitment to meeting the needs of homeowners who want to be assured that they can experience the benefits of high-quality Aluminium Doors and Windows while remaining confident in the security of their home”.

Lyn Poole, Secured by Design, said:
“This is Rhino Aluminium’s first renewal with Secured by Design, having been members for three years now. It is always great to know that our members feel that having the SBD brand and having products that carry enhanced security testing and third-party certification with a UKAS certification body really works for them.
“There are thousands of fenestration companies in the UK and those who are SBD members are part of an elite group of companies - when competition is fierce this can give them that boost in the market that they need. For SBD it is another great company that takes quality and security in their products seriously, which is what we strive to promote”.

You can find out more about Rhino Aluminium and their range of SBD-accredited products here.

Aluprof Offer Colour Options to Match Fashion Changes

Often overlooked in home improvement schemes, the garage door plays a big part in the ‘kerb appeal’ of a property, whilst adding both security and insulation to any home.

The ‘Rolling Shutter Door’ option offers some of the best USPs in the choice of garage doors and the current offer from Aluprof UK does not fail to impress.

Mags Herbert - Aluprof's National Sales Manager explains further in the article below.

Rolling shutter doors have been used for many decades in the security and insulation of both homes and commercial properties.

In particular roller shutters have been used extensively on the continent in helping to keep homes cool by offering an extra layer of insulation, whilst keeping solar radiation out.

In the UK roller shutters are often seen on commercial premises for additional security, but, rarely on residential properties due to our cooler temperate climate.

Growing in popularity today is the colour-coated aluminium roller shutter lath which offers a combination of good looks, security and insulation.

Rolling shutter garage doors from Aluprof UK are available in a wide range of lath combinations and sizes to suit any project.

For security applications, extruded aluminium lath widths of 41mm, 55mm and 77mm are available.

For insulation, pressed aluminium ‘compact’ laths with foam fillers are available in widths of 52mm, 55mm and a ‘classic look’ of 77mm.

All six lath profiles are available in a wide range of colours from stock in the UK.

Homeowners' use of colour has changed over the last few decades as fashion changes. Typically in the 1980s browns were most popular for garage doors, moving to whites in the 1990’s.

More recently we have seen the choice of dark grey, anthracite or even black for fenestration by homeowners which reflects the dominant colour currently used in commercial construction.

There is also a further colour that has seen growth over the last decade and that is ‘Chartwell Green’ which reflects the charms typically seen in an English cottage.

As fashion changes, so do the stock profiles in the UK to meet customer demand.

At the moment popular lath colours include, ‘Goose Wing Grey’ (RAL 7038), ‘Aluminium Grey’ (RAL 9007), ‘Quartz Grey’ (RAL 7039), ‘Satin Grey’, ‘Graphite’ and ‘Metallic Grey’.

Most of these popular colours are available across the range of lath systems and sizes.

Each of the systems supplied by Aluprof comes in a wide range of colours available from stock in our Altrincham distribution facility.

All colour-coated foam-filled laths are supplied with an additional ClearCoat specification for the highest quality and sustainability that offers a thicker, harder-wearing and abrasion-resistant finish.

Some of the stock finishes include woodgrain options such as rosewood, golden oak and walnut which are available with matching boxes and guide channels.

All extruded aluminium profiles are powder coated to the highest standard and also include Decoral woodgrain finishes, again all available from stock from our Altrincham distribution facility.

Aluprof’s manufacturing plants in Poland are proud to be licence holders for the application of both QUALICOAT and QUALIDECO powder coatings, which are well-recognised across the globe.

Aluprof UK is pleased to announce that three further new colours have recently been launched to supplement the range of lath profiles available from stock, these are Slate Grey (RAL 7015), Duck Egg Blue and a Metallic Graphite finish, further information is available on demand.

A recent move by some local authorities is the ban on the installation of external plain steel roller shutters on high streets.

The preference for some of these local authorities and their planning departments is the installation of discrete colour-coated roller shutters installed behind the glazed facade.

Whatever the requirement, support from Aluprof-trained and experienced technicians can help with project detailing and provision of such systems.

Depending on the location requirement, Aluprof can quickly supply both lath size and colour options to create an aesthetically pleasing solution.

Complete specification support is available directly from Aluprof UK.

Further information about roller shutter systems and specification support is available through the company’s website at aluprof.co.uk or directly from their UK head office in Altrincham by phoning 0161 941 4005.

Fit for royalty: Delivery mileage 1977 Triumph Bonneville ‘Silver Jubilee’ for auction

A 1977 Triumph Bonneville 'Silver Jubilee’ 750 in incredible time warp condition is set to be auctioned by leading specialist online auction site, Car & Classic.

One of only 1000 ‘Silver Jubilee’ motorcycles allocated for the British market, one of 2400 built in total, this Triumph Bonneville was supplied new to a UK Triumph dealer in 1977.

Initially unregistered for the road, the bike became a display item, its first owner only parting with it in 1996. The second owner registered the bike with an age related number plate while maintaining the originality of the regal machine which has barely been ridden since the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. It now presents in impeccably preserved condition with delivery mileage showing on its odometer – just 7.7 miles.

The Triumph Bonneville is an iconic bike in its own right, the 'Silver Jubilee’ “Bonnie” was a rare special edition souvenir, created to mark the 25th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II to the throne.

Based on a T140 model, it was given a bespoke metallic silver paint scheme, red, white and blue accents, and additional chrome and commemorative decals. Each was supplied with a signed certificate of authenticity from Triumph, carrying the approval of Buckingham Palace making it fit for a King or Queen.

This motorcycle has shown very little wear since the day it rolled from Triumph’s factory at Meriden in Coventry. Entirely original and unrestored, it is free from any of the deterioration you would expect of a vehicle its age – even all of the special ‘Silver Jubilee’ badges and stickers are present and correct.

Given its dignified life of luxury on static display, the bike’s matching-numbers air-cooled 744cc parallel-twin engine is not currently in running order, it would be an ideal candidate for recommissioning should its new keeper feel royal enough to ride it.

Underlining this majestic machine’s originality, it is accompanied by its factory-supplied owner’s handbook, unused original tool kit and a substantial history file. In addition, comes correspondence from the Triumph Owners Motorcycle Club confirming its authenticity and underlining its rarity, just 81 examples were known to the club back in 1996.

Car & Classic’s Dale Vinten says:

“The Triumph Bonneville enjoys an enduring appeal for riders of all ages, this special version with such an unbelievably low mileage is sure to pique the interest of the biking community.

“This time capsule motorcycle really does offer a rare opportunity for Triumph collectors and enthusiasts to own an unrepeatable piece of British motorcycling history.”

The five-day auction starts on 20th August with estimates that the motorcycle could sell for around £15k.

Barry tops 25 years

As GEZE UK celebrate 35 years in business, one of the company’s longest serving members of staff, Area Sales Manager, Barry Topham, celebrates 25 years with the company.

In this time, Barry has seen the company grow hugely; back when he started there was just 23 staff and turnover of £3m, today the company employs over 250 people and turnover is over £35m.

Barry has also witnessed many changes in the industry, he says:

“The growth of automated doors and the windows sector is astounding, yet there have also been negative changes.

“There has been a deterioration of quality on site, such as the use of chipboard doors, and the influx of low quality, inferior finished products at lowest price is not good - it means the expected product life is far too short.

“However, the GEZE brand is still recognised in the market place as a reliable, quality supplier of door and window control products – and one of the reasons I have stayed.

“Another, is my customers – I always do what is best for both GEZE and the customer and my relationships with the vast majority of them is excellent and akin to friendship, which makes doing business more pleasurable.”

Barry runs his sales area as if it was his own company, his extensive knowledge of the market and the GEZE products enables him to ensure his customers get the advice they need and the best solution for their project.

Andy Howland, GEZE UK’s Sales and Marketing Director said:

“I have worked with Barry for many years, his knowledge of GEZE and the industry is second to none, he is dedicated and passionate about what he does and is a real asset to the company.”

Previous to joining GEZE Barry worked as an Architectural Ironmonger and was a GEZE customer so he knows the business from both sides.

Originally, he was employed at GEZE as a Specification Manager working with architects and planners but as soon as an Area Sales Manager role became available he snapped it up. Barry now covers central England and south Wales.

To find out more about GEZE UK and the comprehensive range of automatic and manual door closers, and window technology products, email info.uk@geze.com or visit www.geze.co.uk.

Getting A Handle on Safe Van Loading

Leading composite door manufacturer Solidor has installed two van docking ramps from Thorworld Industries at its new Stoke-On-Trent facility, resulting in significant improvements to both the safety and efficiency of its loading operations.

During the design phase of its new facility, Solidor had originally specified adjustable dock levellers from another manufacturer. However, after moving into the premises in June 2022, Solidor discovered that the dock levellers were unsuitable for the vans used by the company’s logistics partners. Crucially, they couldn’t be lowered enough to allow the vans to be loaded or unloaded at the dock.

This led to a significant logistics challenge as Neil Bancroft, Operations Director at Solidor, explained:
“Our original loading dock design didn’t consider the array of different vehicle sizes we use, which left us with significant ergonomic and safety issues for our loading operations.
“Safety is our number one priority at Solidor, and we needed a new solution that both met our high standards and allowed us to fully utilise our loading infrastructure.”
Thorworld, through its dealer Loading Bay Service Ltd, designed, delivered, and installed a complete loading solution. This consisted of two mobile van ramps, complete with additional safety features such as Bimagrip Antislip coating, expanded metal decking and side access platforms.

Solidor’s drivers were involved in the selection and design phase of the project, providing vital feedback to ensure the most user-friendly solution.

The van loading ramps were also supplied in non-standard Saffire Blue (RAL 5003) paint as per request.

The new loading solution now allows vans to reverse directly to the facility loading bay, yielding a significant improvement in safety and resulting in a much smoother loading operation for the company.

Explaining why Solidor approached Thorworld, Neil Brancroft added:
“We needed a robust turnkey solution and Thorworld was a local company that could do just that. The technical information, speed of delivery and expert advice provided was excellent and we’re really pleased with the level of service provided”.
“The feedback from the drivers has been really positive, the new ramps are suitable for all our vehicle sizes and the safety risk has been eliminated”.
Warren Craig, Director of Loading Bay Service Ltd commented:
“This was a great project and we’re always happy to receive positive feedback from the people who use our solutions every day”.
“Van ramp solutions such as this are becoming more common as businesses loading operations adapt to the rapidly changing logistics environment.”

Why Türmacher Doors use BLU Hardware as standard

In a recent collaboration with Coastal Group, Türmacher provided a stunning entrance door for their Brand Centre.

Coastal Business Development Manager, Charles Davies caught up with Türmacher Director - Paul Brumfield - to discuss his door offering, the benefits BLU brings him, and why he uses BLU Hardware for his doors.

Türmacher uses bespoke craftmanship and modern joinery techniques to offer a precisely engineered, yet stunningly elegant door option, designed to provide a truly grand entrance that will last for years and years to come.

Paul highlighted how the BLU range, being made from 316 Stainless Steel, is unparalleled in durability and it isn’t going to drop to bits or rust.

How does Paul see the BLU Hardware range working with the longevity of his doors and helping deliver on his door promises?

‘We like the quality of the hardware, it’s a really good mating with the quality of the door’ says Paul. ‘We’ve got a lot of choices with the BLU range which can take us from a traditional to a contemporary or modern look. You’ve got a lot of solutions’ continues Paul.
‘The suited hardware solutions give us the right tools for our customers to visualise what their door could look like. The letter plate, escutcheon, handle and so on all match. And they look superb.’
‘It just looks quality, it feels quality as well,’ Paul adds ‘Customers always say to us, when they pick up the BLU hardware and lift it out the box – that’s heavy – there’s a weight to it, and it’s just presented really well and fits so well on the door.’
If you would like to know more about Coastal’s BLU range, request your free BLU book, by email to marketing@coastal-group.com

Oxted Home Offered New Dimension with Interior Steel Doors

The owners of a large late-Victorian property in Surrey have completed the renovation and extension of their home by bringing style and light to the interiors through the installation of fully glazed steel-framed doors, supplied and installed by a member of the Steel Window Association (SWA).

The contract on the six-bedroom house in the popular town of Oxted was carried out by Godstone-based Govette Windows, a long-term SWA member, well experienced in working with main contractors and architects across the country.

When the client contacted Govette Windows, they had already built two new wings to the 1900 house - one single-storey and the other two-storey, increasing the total floor area by 100 square metres under permissible development rights.

Following a tour of the company's showroom, a survey of the original openings allowed an accurate quote to be provided, which led to the order being placed.

The client, Adrian Lees Jones, commented:
"My wife was keen on having the look of classic steel doors and after doing a bit of research online we found a local company - Govette Windows in Godstone, so we went to look around their showroom. The sales manager was very helpful and really the main decision was over the colour and, after some consideration, we went with the black."
"Four of the doors are installed in the old part of the house rather than the new additions, and we've just ordered a fifth. The steel frames look completely different to timber or other alternatives, with slim sections, but have a really substantial feel, and they are very well made."

All of the doors were fabricated using the classic W20 steel profiles and polyester powder coated in a RAL 9005 Pure Black paint finish. They feature B870 handles from Steel Window Fittings on rose black plates in a brushed brass finish with standard latch mechanisms and are single-glazed with 6.4mm laminated glass.

The Steel Window Association's membership covers the whole of the UK with different companies offering various areas of expertise including the capacity to carry out large-scale commercial new-build contracts, repair and maintenance work or detailed ‘replica refurbishment' in conservation situations.

For further information on the Steel Window Association, please visit www.steel-window-association.co.uk or call 020 3475 8049.

New from Hörmann – Durable and hygienic double action doors

Hörmann UK have launched a  range of double action doors particularly suited to the food production and distribution markets.

Manufactured from polyethylene (PE500) or stainless steel, the doors are ideal for use in busy, high impact environments whilst meeting stringent hygiene standards.

Both doors are available either as single or double leaf versions in a variety of colours and finishes.

Resistant to moisture, acids, and alkalis, Hörmann double action doors are suitable for use in a range of climatic conditions within a temperature range of between -30°C to +60°C.

The doors are fitted with shock-proof and maintenance free stainless-steel hinges ensuring a long service life, with the option of 180o or 360o hinges allowing for maximum flexibility and clear access routes.

The PE version of the door is manufactured from 15mm moulded polyethylene. It is extremely robust having high impact resistance making it particularly suitable for areas of high movement and forklift traffic.

It is offered in ten standard colour options, with three special colours including Traffic Red and RAL colours of choice. A range of glazing options and optional extras such as impact absorber profiles and finger guards, are also available.

For more sophisticated architectural requirements such as high-end catering establishments the stainless-steel door offers an elegant finish with a high-quality composite core for a long-lasting, aesthetically pleasing design.

The door consists of a 0.8mm thick stainless-steel sheet with a 40mm CFC-free PU hard foam core and it is available in two different contemporary finishes - striped or circular.

Fitting of the doors is quick and easy as they are supplied pre-assembled with frames, door leaf and hinges to help save on fitting costs.

An innovative frame system also guarantees a stable wall connection for long-lasting and problem free door operation. In addition, as the doors are operated without power they are virtually maintenance free resulting in no on-going costs.

Hörmann double action doors are suitable for a wide variety of installations including catering outlets, supermarkets, food production facilities, cold storage, and warehousing.

They can also be combined perfectly with fire sliding doors and insulating sliding doors, for example, in deep-freeze areas to help reduce cold losses and maintain ambient temperatures.

Trade Window Centre offers Bespoke solutions for Trade Professionals and Installers

The Trade Window Centre (TWC) is a South Yorkshire-based u-PVC door and window specialist, door fabricator and supplier, that also offers modern aluminium and composite door ranges.

Launched in September 2021 by schoolfriends and business partners Dominic Francis and Ryan Arnold, TWC offers bespoke solutions for trade professionals and installers and was brought about by a shared determination to revolutionise the manufacturing industry with their dedication to quality, affordability and attention to detail.

Dominic and Ryan both have years of experience as seasoned fitters and were motivated to start TWC after experiencing the challenge of finding a supplier that could offer the trifecta of a superior product, competitive pricing, and exceptional service.

Since launching, the company’s investment in state-of-the-art machinery has streamlined its manufacturing process, enabling Dominic and Ryan to offer a personal service with quick turnaround times.

TWC primarily caters to smaller trade installers, with a focus on providing uPVC windows and doors, manufactured with time and care and of course, proper quality control.

With the aim of prioritising customer relations, TWC has embraced technology to streamline its ordering processes, enabling customers to place orders through their easy-to-use systems, or via email or phone.

The company also offers an online designer tool that allows personalised quotes to each supplier.

Their comprehensive uPVC range - including windows, doors, residential, and French styles - is available for online ordering with nationwide delivery.

TWC’s new factory exemplifies the company’s dedication to continuous improvement.

They continue to invest in cutting-edge machinery and well-trained staff, enabling them to take on complex and large-scale projects while maintaining swift turnaround times.

Their determination to deliver exceptional products at competitive prices, combined with attentive customer support, has comfortably positioned TWC as an industry leader.

Dominic Francis says:

“We saw a gap in the market for a supplier that truly understands the needs of trade professionals.

“As former fitters, we know what headaches can be caused by poor quality or delayed products and juggling multiple suppliers for projects.

“Our mission is to be a one-stop shop for trade people, providing them with high-quality products, excellent prices and outstanding customer support.”

Ryan Arnold goes on to explain:

“At TWC, we are continuing to make the entire ordering process more seamless for our customers. From product selection to delivery, we strive to provide the best experience possible.

“Our focus on quality, affordability and personalised service sets us apart from other suppliers in the market.”

In a recent strategic partnership with UK Doors Online, TWC has expanded its offerings to include high-quality doors and aluminium bi-folds, which Dom praises as “The best we have bought in terms of quality and ease of installation.”

The success of this collaboration allowed TWC to provide a one-stop-shop service for their customers.
