Multi-brand servicing from Hörmann

Following demand from the logistics industry, Hörmann is now offering multi-brand servicing as part of its 24/7 repair and maintenance support for industrial doors and loading bay equipment.

Demand for manufacturer backed servicing has been on the increase from the distribution industry as operations have become leaner and more reliant on sophisticated loading equipment. Greater integration of the loading bay means that all components, such as doors, dock levellers, traffic control systems and safety devices, in turn need to be operating efficiently at all times. In addition, legislative changes and the commitment that the industry has towards improving safety are key factors leading to this increased demand.

Another element is the recognition that preventative maintenance provides a double benefit, since it is part of the safety regime and leads to cost savings, by reducing downtime and extending the life-cycle of equipment.

Adding the ability to service other makes of equipment not only gives the customer a more responsive service through a single point of contact, but with Hörmann's real time reporting designed to include this extended offer, it also offers almost instant access to the relevant data for insurance and risk assessment requirements.

All routine and emergency cover is recorded on a real-time support system. Field service technicians are linked to the central database through their tablet computers and so have direct access to all the relevant information for any asset that is recorded.

In order to meet this increased need, Hörmann is adding to its team of field service engineers, and investing in even more training to ensure that the high-quality service, that the industry has come to expect from Hörmann, can be extended to all makes of equipment.

All this investment is geared around providing a much more streamlined service, that can schedule routine maintenance around operational needs and deliver the rapid response needed in the event of a breakdown or accidental damage.

Aluroll Adds To Range Of LPCB Approved Security Shutters

As part of its continued expansion, Aluroll is adding to its existing range of LPCB (Loss Prevention Certification Board) insurance approved shutters.

The LPCB (which is part of BRE Global) work with insurers, government, police, designers, manufacturers, contractors and end users to develop methods by which product performance and reliability can be assessed. All the products approved by the LPCB have been subjected to rigorous testing to assess their resistance to deliberate attack. The LPCB also undertakes an ongoing approval process that ensures, through regular auditing, that approved products continue to comply with the relevant standard after they have been launched onto the market.

Aluroll has successfully completed a pre-assessment of the Eurolook transparent shutter that conforms to LPCB Security Regulation 1 (SR1) standard, the S76 solid and perforated shutter (SR2) and the S100 double skinned insulated steel shutter, which has been provisionally approved to SR3 and SR4 dependent on final design.

“Security is a hugely important consideration for our customers, so it is something we take into account throughout the design process and manufacture of all our products,” says Aluroll Director Mark Evans.

“The LPCB approved shutters are extremely popular as they offer a guaranteed level of security, so we are very excited about adding to the range. It takes a lot of work on our part to design and manufacture products that meet the rigorous LPCB guidelines, but it is very much worth it as it adds considerable value to our products and satisfies the needs of our customers.”

Yale Door and Window Solution's Blade Revolution

Yale Door and Window Solutions has launched the revolutionary Blade window locking system, incorporating the company’s patented rotary action mechanism delivering multiple benefits to fabricators, installers and homeowners alike.

The Yale Blade window locking system utilises the distinctive new technology to offer a fully retracting window locking system that sits flush within the eurogroove, eliminating cam clash issues.

During fabrication the profile can be predrilled to allow the lock and keeps to be fitted at any time, without pre-marking to offer a more flexible and efficient production process. The unique design also ensures one locking point height for all profiles, reducing stock holding for multi system users.

Yale Blade’s rotary locking action significantly reduces mechanical wear, further eliminating compression loss and ensuring consistent weather-sealing performance for the life of the product; thus significantly reducing costly call backs.

Occupying the full depth of the eurogroove, the Yale Blade provides the window with increased integral strength for meeting the stringent requirements of PAS24 and as a result, has Police approved Secured by Design accreditation.

Additionally, the Yale Blade engages the full length of the keep providing ultimate security and peace of mind.

Says Kevin Hill, Managing Director of Yale Door and Window Solutions:
“The launch of the Yale Blade brings a revolutionary new dimension to window locking technology.

“Yale Door and Window Solutions is particularly excited by Yale Blade as it is a future proof product that exceeds industry expectations. Our customers can already see its benefits, both technically and in its ability to deliver first class features across the board. For homeowners and social housing residents across the UK the advantages are many and varied.”
Yale Door and Window Solutions has developed that the Yale Blade in an aluminium construction to deliver extensive corrosion resistance, further enhancing product service life, even in aggressive environments and is backed by a 12 year mechanical guarantee.
Kevin concluded: “We believe that the Yale Blade’s success will only continue to grow as more fabricators and installers not only feel the difference of using a product that guarantees instant performance, reduced call backs and extended service life, but also harnesses the power of the Yale brand to help drive their own business forward.”

An alternative to traditional roller shutter barrels?

French manufacturer Deprat, through its UK distributor JDUK is launching a new barrel assembly that is specifically designed to be an alternative to the traditional 4” 16swg barrel for smaller industrial and commercial roller shutters.

Deprat and JDUK have a long association in the UK supplying the Deprat barrel assembly to Roller garage door manufacturers and wish to build on that success.

Pictured (on right) is Arnaud de Contenson, MD of Deprat, inspecting the Deprat stock that is destined for the UK to cope with the increasing demand for the product, with JDUK MD Steve Hudson.

Several manufacturers of galvanised roller shutters currently use the Deprat system and have commented on the ease of manufacturing in comparison to the traditional method.

Harry Barker, Director of SGG commented:
‘We had manufactured our Galvanised roller shutters from 4” 16 swg barrel for years and were quite happy to continue using it, as it is the market norm. However after trying the Deprat system our speed of production has increased significantly, as has our defect rate decreased. The Deprat system may cost a little more to start with, but in the end it saves us a meaningful amount of money – I for one wouldn’t go back to 4” 16 swg, it’s old hat!’
The system comprises a galvanised barrel, so no painting required, with a groove in the barrel that allows a fixing to be slid along the barrel to attach the curtain, then eliminating the need for welding. A variety of dummy end fixings are available to suit a safety brake or a standard bearing end.

Deprat also offer a patented spring system, that is tailor made for fine adjustment of balancing push up galvanised roller shutters. A simple to follow chart is offered to work out exactly which spring would be required to accurately balance the shutter. All sizes of spring and components are held at JDUK for immediate delivery nationwide.

For further details please contact Steve, Kevin, Pat or Andy for technical details, prices or just a small sample to see how it fits together.

Woodrite plays matchmaker

After a request from a consumer to match the finish of its garage door to a Farrow & Ball paint colour, Woodrite Doors has ended up becoming the matchmaker.

“After that first request we’ve not looked back. It fits with the trend for contemporary use of heritage colours and the Farrow & Ball paint range seems to exemplify the style” said Sharon Cleaver, Woodrite’s Sales Director. “We’ve worked with our wood treatment supplier to create a finish that preserves the timber and we can match to the desired colour. The finishes carry the same 5-year conditional guarantee as our other doors.  It’s been great to give customers just what they want” concluded Sharon.

The image shows a pair of doors in grey fitted by The Garage Door & Automation Company.

For details and pricing contact Woodrite on 01280 841010 or email to enquiries@woodritedoors.co.uk.

Hörmann entrance doors, setting the insulation standards

The ThermoSafe and ThermoCarbon represent a new generation of high-insulation entrance doors, designed for low energy homes and housing developments. Impressive thermal and acoustic insulation plus high security, are key features of these new aluminium entrance doors.

ThermoSafe

The ThermoSafe features a 73mm thick door leaf with a rigid, CFC free, PU foam infill and an aluminium sub-frame with thermal break, which gives an excellent U-value as low as 0.8 W/m2K.

For a more individual look a choice of frames are offered with the ThermoSafe. A broader 110mm width flush fitting frame is an option alongside the standard 70mm width as well as both the rounded edge Rondo 70 and the Caro 70 frame styles.

Five point locking and hinge side security bolts are standard as are 3-way adjustable hinges and all-round double seals. Triple glazing, with 8mm thick laminated safety glass on both the interior and exterior, is also standard for glazed panels and side elements.

ThermoCarbon

For the ultimate in insulation, the ThermoCarbon door marries a reinforced carbon fibre subframe with solid PU foam in a 100mm thick door leaf, to produce an entrance door with a U-value of only 0.47 W/m2K. Optional quadruple glazed panels help to maintain this ground-breaking level. This door also comes with 9-point locking and concealed hinges as standard.

Styling choices are enhanced with a choice of flush fitting exterior handles exclusively offered with this door. There is a choice of stainless steel and aluminium recessed handles or an aluminium continuous handle bar running down the door. These can be colour coded, with a choice of standard preferred colours or the option to select any RAL colour. With some styles there is even the opportunity to have a carbon finish.

Matching side elements and transom lights compliment these new doors which add to the complete range of entrance doors that Hörmann offer.

For full details of the styles and options available, please contact Hörmann (UK) Ltd on 01530 516888 or email info@hormann.co.uk.

DOPPELGÄNGER

Have you ever had the feeling of Déjà vu, of life running on parallel lines or even a missing twin?

Stephen Hawking and his kin prophesise the possibility that in the infinity of the cosmos, statistically speaking, we all have a “double” leading an identical life with other doubles taking different routes with different outcomes. If only we could meet them, what could we learn?

So, how would you react if your Doppelgänger didn’t come from the other side of the Universe, but from this galaxy, in this solar system, in fact from planet Earth… or to be precise, from Australia - wouldn’t that be really bizarre?

Anyway, let’s get to the point...

Whilst having their website updated Oxley Garage Doors’ director Chris Oxley was asked by their web designers if Oxley’s had a branch in Australia. “We do travel around a bit but Australia is a little too far, why?” Chris replied.

Chris Oxley (1) outside his premises in Hull UK

It would appear that whilst typing Oxley’s web address www.oxleydoors.co.uk they had mistyped with an additional “s” oxleysdoors and inadvertently logged into a Doppelgänger in Australia.

Curiosity getting the better of them, further investigation revealed that not only was the website address uncannily similar, it would appear there was another Oxley Garage Doors in Mildura, Australia not only installing garage doors, but also automatic gates and industrial doors. Even their logo was eerily similar in a bold Arial type.

Chris Oxley (2) outside his premises in Mildura, Australia

Spooky!

An email through their contact button to say Hi revealed the owner was also one Chris Oxley who replied 12 hours later with... “I don’t suppose your middle name is John??” “errr yes it is!” replied Chris Oxley (1).

So, there is a Christopher John Oxley (1) and Oxley Garage Doors in England installing garage doors, gates and industrial doors and a Christopher John Oxley (2) and Oxley Garage Doors installing garage doors, gates and industrial doors in Australia with no relational connection.

Ain’t life funny?

The best part is Chris Oxley (2) has a holiday home in Bali…

Now, come to think of it, these Doppelgängers aren’t all bad!

Take a look for yourself:
