Allegion Launches ‘Clearly Informed’ In-Store Guides

When buying door hardware, correct product selection has a number of important safety considerations. The purchase of products that are unsuitable for a particular application and not correctly certified is an ever-present danger.

In line with its commitment to keep people safe and secure, Allegion has launched a new range of point of sales materials that focus on giving buyers clear product and usage information for its range of Briton products.

Briton is already a very recognisable brand in the industry, and its bright orange colour makes its products stand out from the crowd, but the focus of these new in-store materials will be to make sure that the correct products for an application can be found quickly and easily.

Displayed nationwide across all participating stores that stock Briton products, materials include classifications guides, bus stop boards, product selectors, product display boards, shelf wobblers and stickers. Bus stop boards remind those responsible for installing and maintaining fire door hardware to make sure the products they choose are certified, installed and functioning correctly. An easy-to-use checklist promotes higher standard of fire door inspection and maintenance. Briton exit hardware and door closer product selectors make choosing products simple. Used as a reference guide, builders and installers can be sure that they are selecting the right product for their application depending on type of doors, its location and its usage.

An easy to understand and handy classifications guide is also available as a takeaway, so those who use and install Briton products can ensure they are clued up on EN Classifications and CE Marking to meet with the latest building regulations.

Suzanne Taylor-Turnbull, marketing manager at Allegion says:
“Point of sales materials aren’t just there to increase recognition, we also want to bring fire safety to the forefront. So we’re giving away classifications guides and other fire safety information to increase awareness and promote compliant installation and maintenance of fire doors, as well as the vital role of certified and compatible ironmongery. Our Briton range features certified fire door hardware and the new point of sale materials make it simple to choose the best hardware for the job, ensuring every door functions as effectively as possible.”

Safe Gates Save Lives! - clarion call launches Gate Safety Week 2016

Safety campaigners are once again mounting a high profile drive designed to confine deaths and serious injuries caused by incorrectly installed and poorly maintained automated gates to the history books.

Gate Safety Week is being held on October 10 - 16 this year. It will be underpinned by the clear and simple campaign slogan - Safe Gates Save Lives. The campaign is being run by the Door & Hardware Federation whose Powered Gate Group represents the UK powered gate industry.

The aims of the campaign are:

• To educate specifiers, merchants, installers, inspectors, surveyors and users in the correct specification, supply, installation and operation of powered gates;

• To highlight the liabilities and responsibilities of those who specify, install, maintain and use powered gates;

• To emphasise the importance of ensuring a powered gate is correctly CE marked and has been installed in accordance with the latest industry code of practice governing safety.

Recent significant developments within the powered gate industry mean that this year’s Gate Safety Week campaign will be even more hard-hitting than previous campaigns. 2016 saw the launch of a new industry code of practice designed to reduce the safety risks associated with powered gates and traffic barriers to as low as is reasonably practicable. All DHF members must abide by the code of practice ( DHF TS 011:2016) which provides a framework to ensure a gate is safe and therefore complies with the law.

The National Security Inspectorate (NSI) is using DHF TS 011:2016 to audit installers and maintainers in its new powered gates certification scheme. NSI, the UKAS-accredited certification and inspection body which audits security and safety providers, hopes to announce the first accredited companies under its scheme during Gate Safety Week.

More than 700 powered gate installation engineers have been through the DHF’s demanding safety training scheme, recognised to be the most stringent in Europe.

Said DHF CEO Bob Perry:
“In recent years there have been nine deaths in the UK and Ireland - six adults and three children - several serious injuries and countless near misses in tragic accidents involving badly installed and poorly maintained powered gates and barriers. Properly installed and maintained powered gates are perfectly safe to use. But it’s estimated that only 30% of the 500,000 automated gates in service in the UK are, in fact, safe.
“As an industry we’re not prepared to tolerate this situation, which is why all the leading manufacturers, installers and maintainers of automated gates are throwing their weight behind this important initiative. We also welcome the support of the NSI for this year’s Gate Safety Week.
“Our campaign will hammer home the message that automated gates in schools, public buildings, industrial and commercial premises and on residential driveways should be checked by qualified engineers for safe operation.”

Rare 1930s Mathis motorcar emerges from hiding in France

A 1931 Mathis motorcar, which was hidden in France during World War II, was offered for sale by Silverstone Auctions at the Silverstone Classic which took place at the end of July.

The now rare and collectible Mathis PY 7CV has spent the last 72 years behind lock and key at a Chateau in Northern France, having been concealed from the invading German forces who stripped the area of valuable collectibles in the early 1940s.

After years in isolation, the sleeping Mathis motorcar was discovered by the current owner in 2014, who purchased it alongside two other cars found in the private collection. The time-warp Mathis had never been moved from its secure hiding place and until recently remained sat on blocks.

Today, over eight decades after it was manufactured, it is an extremely rare and authentic example of the French marque which was founded by Émile Mathis in 1910. His contemporary, the young Ettore Bugatti designed two models for him that were marketed under the brand Hermes, before their careers took different paths. The Mathis factory in Strasbourg went on to became the fourth largest in France, making more than 20,000 cars in 1927, with Citroën being the main competition, before eventually closing in 1950.

This 1931 barn-find example proves to be in remarkable preserved condition upon inspection, showing no substantial rust, with the only deterioration being age related, having stood still in time. Now transported to the United Kingdom, the Mathis was offered on the open market at auction for the first time ever, without reserve.

Nick Whale, managing director of Silverstone Auctions, said:
“This is such an exciting discovery. The car appears to be very authentic, and it's extremely rare to find one in such preserved condition. Sadly there’s no paper work with the car other than a wonderful period photograph, but its story and the life this car has lived make it very special indeed.”
Presented in black and green paintwork with a grey cloth interior and black soft top, the period car has covered just over 25,000 miles in its 85 years of life.
“This car would make a wonderful addition to any period car collection” continues Nick. “It also offers the opportunity for a very fine and rewarding restoration project, as it has been left unloved for such a long time. We look forward to finding a deserving new owner for her at auction.”

Suitable for frameless tempered glass and wooden doors, this stylish and easy-to-fit patch fitting has an in-built hydraulic system which can be installed with just four fasteners so there is no floor cutting, no digging and the coffin box rests in peace.

Garador's Design Range Up and Over Doors – Not Just For Grand Designs!

With a continued surge in orders for Design Range doors, Garador is highlighting the increased popularity of its Design Range Up and Over garage doors on futuristic properties as well as more traditional new-builds.

The Design Range was originally intended as a more affordable solution for homeowners seeking a modern style of garage door. It’s slick, stylish variations and minimalist panel designs offered a visually distinctive appearance that wasn’t always the right solution with a traditional garage door, and given that a garage door makes up over one-third of the frontage of many properties it is understandable that the demand from builders, specifiers and homeowners continues to grow.

Simon Hipgrave, Managing Director comments:
‘We are delighted with the continued popularity of these doors and the fact that more builders and specifiers are using this style of door on a wider range of properties; from new builds through to refurbishments. It’s not just on developments that have a Grand Designs look to them.’
Constructed using the same market leading technology and engineering techniques applied to manufacture Garador’s steel up and over door range; these doors offer a more contemporary look and feel. The Titan metallic paint finish and brushed steel handle are two stand-out features that are unique to the Garador Design Range.

The Garador Design Range of Up and Over garage doors are available in a choice of 19 colour finishes, as well as three types of lifting gear: canopy, retractable and retractable plus. Doors are manufactured using high-grade galvanised steel and the panel itself is rivet free with a durable powder-coat paint finish. They are also secure with euro cylinder and 2-point locking, and safe with a built in anti-drop device.

View the complete collection of Design Range Up and Over garage doors online at www.garador.co.uk

Opening doors with Yale

Yale has brought together its range of steadfast high-security hardware components to launch the ultimate door and window package.

With 98% brand recognition, Yale is heralded as the leading home security brand throughout the UK. Fabricators can now capitalise on this with the new ‘Yale Door and Window Package’ that is backed by an extensive ‘Yale Lifetime Guarantee’.

Paul Atkinson, Sales and Commercial Director of Yale Door and Window Solutions, comments:
“Following the success of the Yale Window Package, which was launched last year, we have decided to extend this offering to also cover doors. PAS 24 compliant doorsets fitted with Yale hardware can now be marketed as part of the Yale Door and Window Package, and come with the added benefit of our ‘Lifetime Guarantee’.
“Yale has always been known as the most trusted name in home security, but we wanted to harness the power of the brand by pulling together our range of door and window hardware products into a strong offering that benefits both our fabricator customers, and the end consumer.”

Yale has an array of trusted core door solutions that help fabricators to meet the exacting security standards of PAS24:2012, as well as constantly developing innovative and exciting new products such as a new TS008 compliant letter plate solution, which is currently being developed to meet this new standard through patent-pending technology.

Paul continues: “The Yale Door and Window package presents a fantastic selling tool.  Although end-users might not be used to considering which brand makes up the door or window’s hardware, much in the same way that you don’t generally think about what tyres a new car has, once they are told that it all comes from the leading brand in home security they are certain to be reassured that it’s a quality product that will protect their home.”

Backed by Yale’s ‘Lifetime Guarantee’, the Yale Door and Window Package provides ultimate peace of mind to homeowners. The guarantee offers a range of benefits and incorporates up to £3,250 worth of financial repayments to the homeowner if a break in is due to a failure of a Yale component*. They can also enjoy a 10% discount code for use against Yale security products purchased online at www.yalestore.co.uk**

Paul adds: “Although there are other guarantees out there in the market, people associate the Yale brand with trust and reliability due to many years of proven performance, and it is recognised over any other home security brand.
“Being able to offer the Yale Door and Window Package allows you to provide assurance to homeowners that one of the key components of the design – security – is in tried and tested hands. Once they know that the door or window has full Yale protection, assured by a comprehensive lifetime guarantee, they will be primed for a sale.”

Fabricators can choose from Yale’s wide range of hardware to meet their needs, with cylinders, locks, hinges and handles designed to help doors and windows adhere to the most up-to-date industry standards, (including PAS24, TS008, BS6375-2 for weather tightness and Police preferred Secured by Design accreditation).

For distributors who have a customer on board for the Yale Door and Window Package, it couldn’t be easier. Just speak to the Yale marketing team who will get in touch and arrange marketing support materials including point of sale, stickers and consumer guarantee leaflets.

For further information on the Yale Door and Window Package contact the Yale marketing team on 01902 366800.

*For full details of the ‘Yale Lifetime Guarantee’ please visit www.yaledoorandwindowsolutions.co.uk

Door closers maintain Kipling’s spirit

Samuel Heath’s Powermatic controlled, concealed door closers have been used by the Rocco Forte group to retain the high-end aesthetics of rooms and suites at Brown’s Hotel, one of London’s most elegant boutique residences.

Opened in 1837, Brown’s Hotel is made of eleven Georgian houses on Albermarle Street in the heart of London’s exclusive Mayfair. Famed for its decorative style and impeccable service, the hotel has been home to presidents, prime ministers, royalty and writers, with Rudyard Kipling among its most famous guests.

The hotel believes that Kipling wrote The Jungle Book while staying there and has named a newly created suite in his honour. The Kipling Suite is the hotel’s largest guest accommodation and is the first of the ‘Forte Suites’ to be created by Rocco Forte Hotels as part of the Rocco Forte Suite Experience.

The suite comprises an impressive living area, two bedrooms, en-suite bathrooms and large walk-in wardrobe, providing guests with the ultimate in comfort and luxury. Access to the suite is via a double-door entrance which leads onto a central foyer, connecting the lounge and bedrooms.

Led by Olga Polizzi, director of design at Rocco Forte Hotels, The Kipling Suite renovation took three months to complete. It makes extensive use of English wallpapers, fabrics and furnishings to deliver a contemporary feel whilst remaining true to the hotel’s heritage and the era of Kipling.

Commenting on the project, Ms Polizzi says,
“We designed the Kipling so that you can feel you are in London. This will be a grand classical suite of great comfort, with a combination of antique pieces and contemporary designer items. The English theme carries on and is maintained, as in all our rooms at Brown's Hotel, with English wallpaper, fabrics, colours and objects.”

Retaining the aesthetics and ambience of the new suite, and other rooms throughout Brown’s Hotel, is vital to assuring the comfort and enjoyment of guests. It is for this reason that the hotel’s chief engineer, David Rozmetov, selected Powermatic concealed door closers.

Mr Rozmetov states,
“We did not want to use surface-mounted door closers because they would spoil the appearance of our exquisite interiors. We also needed something that would be easy to install, reliable and require minimal maintenance.
“After considering and testing a number of alternatives, we chose Powermatic. The door closer meets all of the relevant performance standards and is totally hidden when the doors are closed. This means that the rooms will look exactly as the designer intended and that we can create a more homely, comfortable experience for our guests.”

The Kipling Suite is one of 75 rooms at Brown’s Hotel to be fitted with Powermatics. Just like the hotel, the door closers share a fine heritage for British design, quality and faultless service. In all, 80 door closers have been used on suites, junior suites and deluxe rooms throughout the hotel.

Powermatic concealed door closers have long been admired by designers and managers of hotels for the fact that they are invisible when the door is closed. In addition to impressive fire and accessibility credentials and maintenance-free service, enhanced aesthetics play a large part in the door closers’ appeal.

There are, however, additional benefits for hotel projects that come from this concealment and Powermatic’s installation; With minimal exposed surfaces and being fitted at a relatively low position in the door, the door closer is easier to clean and inspect.

Being jamb-mounted, it is also much more convenient for use where there is limited headroom above the door or where 90-degree reveals are present. It has even been proved to contribute towards the retention of sound insulation properties of guestroom doors.

Additionally, total concealment reduces the risk of the door closer being tampered with, thereby enhancing reliability and assuring guest safety.

Low Cost and Free Publicity - Your company can easily benefit from some publicity like this in return for a contribution towards our layout costs (typically £30 plusVAT), payable via PayPal or credit card  or receive the service absolutely free of charge if you advertise (see below).

We post articles up to twice a day and never delete them - we only archive them each year so that they continue to remain visible to search engines.

To have your story published - just send us your news item, logo and image(s) and we will review the material, make any necessary changes to the wording / wordcount and then advise you when it will be published.

If you take display advertising or product and literature features in our printed and online publications, you will qualify for regular free postings on this blog while you continue to advertise with us.

For details on features and advertising rates please contact us or visit our website.
