TV & Dance star Ashley Banjo takes delivery of High-Performance ‘Eleanor’ Mustang GT500CS

TV presenter, choreographer and creative director behind street dance group ‘Diversity’ Ashley Banjo has taken delivery of a Mustang GT500CS by Sutton Bespoke – a fully-restored and comprehensively modified version of a classic 1967 Ford Mustang.

The car features significantly enhanced acceleration and top speed, improved handling characteristics and sympathetic updates to the iconic styling.

The styling of Ashley’s GT500CS is modelled on the look of the ‘Eleanor’ Mustang from blockbuster action movie ‘Gone in 60 seconds’, distinguished by its modern Magnetic Metallic grey paint, black racing stripes from nose to tail, and centrally-mounted lamps in the front lower grille.

All of the engineering, tuning and styling work on the GT500CS has been carried out in the UK by Sutton Bespoke and its carefully selected group of technical partners.

Banjo, who has appeared on many prime-time television shows – including as a judge on ITV1’s Dancing on Ice and host of Channel 4’s Flirty Dancing – commented:
“It’s been great to work with Clive Sutton and his team to build my dream car. There definitely isn’t another car built to the same specification in the world – remodelled with modern technology from the ground up, with a 500 bhp 5.4-litre V8 engine and a beautiful hand-restored body. I am in love with this car and have been since I was a kid. Thank you, Clive Sutton, once again for building this with me and making it real. I am very, very lucky!”

At the heart of the ground-up GT500CS restoration is a full re-build of the donor car’s 5.0-litre, bhp V8 engine, taking it to 5.4 litres and nearly 500 bhp through the introduction of hypereutectic pistons, high-performance camshaft and eight-port fuel injection manufactured in the UK and derived from that found in the original Ford GT40. Console switchable ECU provides three custom states of tunes for road, race and track.

The Mustang’s standard four-speed transmission has been replaced with a modern five-speed Tremec manual unit, directing power to the rear wheels. The new suspension is an adjustable coil-over set-up at the front, with rebound and bump adjustment and also ride-height adjustment. The rear also features height-adjustable coil springs.

Modern 14-inch diameter high-performance front brakes with six-piston calipers help to keep the performance in check. To give voice to the car’s famed V8 ‘burble’, Sutton Bespoke has fitted an active exhaust system with optional loud and soft settings.

Giving a contemporary look to the ‘Eleanor’-themed exterior design, the brightwork is powder-coated in satin black, and the same finish is applied to the 18-inch alloy wheels. LED lighting adds another modern twist to the eye-catching exterior.

Inside, the Mustang cabin has been completely refitted and enhanced to Banjo’s exacting specifications. Period-style dials sit alongside LED gauges, all housed in a carbon-finish dashboard. A custom-made carbon-finish centre console surrounds an array of modern controls for features such as active exhaust control.

The plethora of in-cabin technology includes a Morel audio system with DAB, satellite navigation, Apple Car Play-equipped infotainment, a bespoke automatic boot opening function, reversing camera, remote control locking and tracker.

The interior surfaces have been trimmed in high-quality black Nappa leather with dark grey stitching – extending to the door panels, rear quarter panels, centre console trim and dashboard. New Recaro front seats are finished in ‘Daytona’ style, with the rear seats trimmed to match.

The headlining, sun visors, and boot are all fully trimmed in dark Alcantara, and custom, leather-wrapped Mota-Lita steering wheel finishes the bold interior look. The boot, which is also full trimmed, accommodates a custom-built Morel subwoofer, amplifier and ambient lighting.

Although Ashley’s car is built to his individual taste and requirements, Sutton Bespoke is taking commissions for the restoration and enhancement of other period Mustangs. Guide pricing for the GT500CS is dependent on specification, with a build time of approximately 12 to 16 months.

More information about Sutton Bespoke is available at www.suttonbespoke.co.uk. A detailed history of the company can be found at www.suttonbespoke.co.uk/sutton-bespoke-history.

The Joinery Network invests in testing for Doors and Windows

“Joiners need easy access to PAS24 security certification for timber doors and windows to comply with Document Q of Building Regulations,” says O T Dare Joinery Consultant, Owen Dare, and one of the founder directors at The Joinery Network, newly launched to support joinery companies.

“The Joinery Network booked two weeks at the testing house for an initial batch of products to cover BS 6375: 1 for weathertightness and thermal performance, PAS 24 and Approved Document Q for security, and Part M to ensure that people are able to access and use buildings and their facilities.

“We recognise that joiners need test results for all the windows and doors they’re making. It means a much broader range of products, options and styles must be tested, to ensure the results can be cascaded to comply with Building Regulations.

“We are aiming to build up the product portfolio, to give joiners a comprehensive range to choose from. Day one saw passes on the box sash and flush casement window, and the second day we added single doors opening both in and out, including low thresholds to comply with Part M. We have included full glazed, half-glazed and panel door options, opening both in and out,” adds Owen.
“All permutations of French doors are also being tested during this time. We will continue to add more products including thermalite windows, stormproof flush sash and aluclad options.”
Joiners can get a licence from The Joinery Network to use the cascaded data to offer products compliant with the regulations, whether it’s for PAS24, Part Q or Part M. Under the scheme The Joinery Network offers all the technical support to get companies set up, so they don’t fall foul of the law.
“The Joinery Network has already had a huge amount of interest from joinery companies. They want an easy way to show their products comply with Building Regulations.”
The Joinery Network is a cooperative of leading industry suppliers, bringing expertise, practical support and certified products to grow timber window and door businesses. The range of expertise covers tooling and hardware through to marketing and asset finance. The eight founder partners in The Joinery Network have invested in the product testing as part of their commitment to the industry.

SIMONSWERK acquires the Italian Colcom Group

SIMONSWERK enters a new product segment with the acquisition of the Italian Colcom Group from Wise Equity SGR.

SIMONSWERK GmbH, a leading supplier of high-quality hinges and hinge systems for doors, has acquired the Colcom Group S.p.A. from the Italian private equity company Wise Equity SGR S.p.A. with immediate effect.

Colcom was founded in 1961 by Ezio and Sergio Collio and is based in the Italian town of Nave (Brescia). The business of Colcom Group is related to the development, production and distribution of hinges and fittings for glass doors. It is a market-leading company in the segment for hydraulic hinges with damping and closing functions.

Colcom was acquired by Wise Equity in 2014. As part of the strategic development of the company, the French company Sadev, a producer of fittings for external glass systems such as façades, parapets and balustrades was purchased in 2017.

The Colcom Group employs a total of 135 employees and generated turnover of about 27 million euros in 2018 with sales in more than 50 countries around the world. Colcom has production sites in Nave as well as several international distribution companies (Canada, Spain, Benelux). The French company Sadev is located near Annecy in France and has subsidiaries in Switzerland and the US.

Focused product portfolio Expansion

Following the acquisition of a majority stake in ANSELMI & C. S.r.l., a producer of concealed hinges for lightweight doors, the takeover of the Colcom Group S.p.A. secures a further major step in expanding the SIMONSWERK product portfolio.

Michael Meier, Managing Director of SIMONSWERK Germany says:
“We are continuing the international expansion of SIMONSWERK. The products and the team of Colcom complement our extensive portfolio of hinges with regard to the segment of glass doors. In addition, Sadev allows us to expand our product range to glass fittings for outdoor use on facades, parapets and balustrades. This segment allows us to get into the important project business at an even earlier stage”.
SIMONSWERK has already enhanced its international orientation in recent years. The company’s products are sold in 70 countries and exports accounted for 56% of turnover in the financial year 2018. The acquisition of the Colcom Group is a further step towards expanding the product portfolio for customers and toward developing the company’s international presence.
“As an integral part of the renowned SIMONSWERK Group, Colcom and Sadev are excellently positioned for the future, in order to develop our product portfolio and progress further in serving international sales markets,” says Gabriele Basile, who has managed the Colcom Group for the last four years and will continue in his role as CEO.
Since the acquisition by Wise Equity SGR in 2014, Colcom has been developing continuously, and has significantly expanded its turnover, profitability and international presence. Taking into account the strong organic growth as well as the acquisition of Sadev, the group turnover has more than doubled in the last four years.

Luigi Vagnozzi, responsible partner at Wise Equity SGR, with Alessio Riccioni, adds:
“We are very proud of how the company has developed in recent years, both organically and as a result of the acquisition of Sadev. We are delighted that our investments over recent years, and in particular the appointment of a new management team and the reorientation of the sales structure, have contributed to this. In this way, we have built a solid foundation on which Colcom can continue its above-average growth also in the future. We very much welcome the acquisition of Colcom by SIMONSWERK, an internationally renowned company from the field of door hinges.”

Integration into the SIMONSWERK Group

In order to realise its growth opportunities, SIMONSWERK will continue to invest in the new company, as in all other locations. The planned synergies will not require any personnel cutbacks. As a very important aspect for SIMONSWERK the entire management team of Colcom Group will stay on board on a long term basis.
“SIMONSWERK is a responsible traditional family business that feels a particular obligation to its employees and its locations. This understanding will likewise apply to the new colleagues at Colcom and Sadev, who we warmly welcome to SIMONSWERK” says Michael Meier.
Wise Equity has been advised as legal counsel by Simmons & Simmons with Moira Gamba, Alessandro Bonazzi and Andrea Accornero while Spada Partners with Guido Sazbon and Fabrizio Gnecco acted as tax Advisor.

SIMONSWERK has been advised by ONEtoONE Corporate Finance, Linklaters, EY, Chair of Machine Tools (WZL, RWTH Aachen) and Arcadis.

Landmark Fire and Security collaboration on Flat Entrance Doorsets - published in wake of Grenfell

In an unprecedented collaboration within the fire and security industry, three not-for-profit organisations with expertise in fire and security doorsets have combined their knowledge to offer guidance on a newly-published document on flat entrance doorsets.

The joint publication: ‘A Guide for Selecting Flat Entrance Doorsets; A publication for housing associations, landlords, building owners and local authorities in England’, relates to new doorsets and is the product of DHF (Door & Hardware Federation), Secured by Design (SBD) and the Fire Industry Association (FIA).

The publication brings together the best collaborative advice available from the industry in one straightforward document to highlight the fundamental issues of fire safety and security for those selecting fire doorsets.

Importantly, the publication makes the point that there is no conflict between fire and security with Building Regulations ADB (fire) and ADQ (security) carrying equal weight with neither taking precedence over the other. It explains why only factory produced doorsets can meet both ADB and ADQ.

Specifiers can have confidence in using the publication as an authoritative source of information as they are guided through the complexities of an extremely important area of Building Regulations to help them make informed choices.

The publication, which can be downloaded from any of the co-operating organisations’ websites, comes in the wake of the 2017 Grenfell Tower tragedy and in response to the Ministry of Housing Communities and Local Governments’ (MHCLG) Implementation Plan – ‘Building a Safer Future’, released at the end of December 2018.

This new guidance document, which launched in March of this year, recommends that all fire doorsets are factory-prepared (as opposed to prepared on-site), and furthermore, audited by a third-party. It is suggested these recommendations will offer greater assurance on door performance and protect occupants, control the spread of fire and enable safer, easier escape in the event of an incident.

DHF’s CEO, Bob Perry explains:
“We are delighted to have collaborated with SBD and FIA, in sharing our joint expertise on doorsets and fire safety.
“It seemed a natural partnership to come together and offer guidance on what to look for in a flat entrance doorset, how this relates to the latest advice supplied by Government (MHCLG) and why third-party certification of fire and security doorset manufacture, installation and maintenance is a critical part of the protection against fire ingress and unlawful entry.
“Third party certification of manufacture, installation, maintenance and inspection of fire, smoke and security doors is something DHF has lobbied for tirelessly, as well as issues surrounding poorly or ill-fitting door closers,” he continues. “These form a vital part of fire safety.”
FIA’s CEO, Ian Moore, says:
“We are very pleased to work with DHF and Secured by Design in producing a guidance document to assist housing associations, landlords, building owners and local authorities on what to look for in a new flat entrance doorset and why third-party certification of fire doorset manufacture, installation and maintenance is a critical part of fire protection.
“This underlines the Fire Industry Association’s objective to improve and perfect fire protection work and builds on MHCLG guidance within the Government’s building safety programme. It is worth noting that although this document is specific to England and Wales, it is also useful information for Northern Ireland and Scotland.”

Chief Operating Officer of Secured by Design, Jon Cole, emphasised how important it is for the three organisations to work together to provide a holistic overview.
He says: “For many years, we have worked closely with national and local government, manufacturers, trade associations and standards authorities at home and abroad to establish effective security standards in the building and construction industry. We insist on United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) accredited independent, third-party certification to provide product control and to ensure that specification and quality is maintained over time.”
“Third party certification, by suitably qualified bodies, has certainly delivered consistency and quality within the security sector. This is why we have campaigned for flat entrance doorsets to have dual certification, meeting all the relevant requirements for security and fire resistance in a single combined design specification. We believe that certification remains the best and only way to assure that effective quality products are delivered to market, providing additional assurance of performance.”

The document is available on the SBD link here: www.securedbydesign.com
