The existing building will house the components part of the business where existing equipment in place will be utilised.

Garador's sectional garage doors give more space on short driveways

With today’s modern homes, short driveways are a common sight, meaning there is often less space to park a car in front of a garage. In such instances, choosing a garage door which makes efficient use of that driveway space becomes even more important.

Garador’s sectional garage doors are recognised nationally for their superb precision engineering, security and reliability; meaning the door will continue to work year after year.

A sectional garage door is constructed from sections which rise vertically and run on tracks back into the garage. It is therefore a perfect choice for short driveways, as it allows for much closer parking to the garage door.

Managing Director of Garador, Simon Hipgrave comments:
‘When driveway space is more scarce, a sectional garage door is a great way to go as it will help to make more effective use of that space by allowing the homeowner to park their car closer to the garage door.’
Simon continues: ‘Whilst an up and over door kicks outwards as it opens, a sectional door does not and is therefore worthy of consideration for properties where having a short driveway is the key consideration when buying a garage door.’
Finding a garage door that is functional and suitable for a property design isn’t the only consideration for specifiers, builders and homeowners; they will want the garage door to look the part and make sure it is in-keeping with the style of the property too.

Garador’s Sectional doors come is a wide variety of designs, including panelled versions like the elegant Georgian style and the linear small, medium and large styles. In addition, there are numerous variations of surface textures like silkgrain, sandgrain, woodgrain and timber effects with a real woodgrain quality to the surface texture. So it’s not surprising these doors continue to grow in popularity, as there is just so much to choose from.

Security Shutter and Grille Safety - How to provide Pull-in Protection using Sensors

Twin-Safe and Twin-Pro sensors by Witt Sensoric

With the industry’s recent focus on ensuring crushing and shearing points on gates, roller shutters and garage doors are made safe; ride-on safety on security grilles and shutters generally used to secure shop fronts and underground car parks can sometimes be overlooked.

Roller Door
The Twin-Safe and Twin-Pro sensors by Witt Sensoric have been specifically designed for pull-in protection. The Twin-Safe has a potential free relay output and test input and is compliant to CAT2, PLc according to EN13849-1. The Twin-Pro allows for direct connection into an OSE (Optical Safety Edge) input.

Other features include simple alignment with its pivoted joint and single point mounting, front-facing LED alignment indicator for easy installation, insensitivity against ambient light and a high degree of protection – IP67 – makes it a robust safety solution for most applications.

Sectional Door
Strategic placement of these sensors detect the presence of an object or hand being drawn up into the mechanism of a roller or sectional door and signals the control system to stop or stop and reverse the motor, preventing serious injury.

Further information and videos on these products can be found on IN2 Access & Control Ltd.’s website - in2access.co.uk .

Providing students with a clear vision for the future

GEZE UK has given Tyneside students a brand new outlook on life – by supplying more than 100 windows systems for a new state-of-the-art science and technology centre.

The STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths – building is part of a £14.5 million redevelopment of the Thorp Academy, in Ryton.

The standalone development – one of five buildings on the campus, houses 11 science labs, 11 maths and two ICT rooms as well as two seminar rooms and a dining room to cater for the whole school. There are also new engineering and technology rooms, a construction area where building and related trades are taught, two food technology rooms and a textile room.

With such a practical learning environment, it was vital that the building benefited from optimum natural light and ventilation. This is why GEZE’s OL Line openers and operators were specified – to maximise functionality with a window arrangement that incorporates key safety features for use in schools.

OL Line systems with winding openers were fitted to all of the top opening sections of all windows throughout the three-storey building. These were positioned over a fixed middle section and a bottom opener with manual handles.

Kaz Spiewakowski, managing director of GEZE UK, said that he was proud that GEZE products were used within a development which provided such excellent facilities for young people.
“Buildings such as these provide a light, bright and well-equipped environment in which to learn. In designing modern educational requirements, it is imperative that the functionality and safety of window systems are a high priority and the OL Line provides the versatility needed in just this situation.”
The STEM building was the first school development in a batch of seven schools in the North East to be completed by Sir Robert McAlpine. The construction company won the contract which was funded by the Government’s Priority Schools Building Programme. The windows within all the schools share the same design DNA and have the same configuration.

The STEM building has an engineering suite which has been equipped with more than £30,000 worth of CNC milling machinery provided by a local charity trust, The Reece Foundation, that promotes local engineering and manufacturing in the region.

Thorp Academy is part of the Northern Education Trust which is a not-for-profit charity, approved by the Department for Education to establish and maintain primary and secondary academies. It founded Thorp in September 2014, providing secondary and sixth form education for more than 1170 students, and it has gone from strength-to-strength, with strong A-level performances and a higher than national average of students achieving top grades.

John Taylor, project director of new buildings, for the Northern Education Trust, said:
“We are really pleased with the quality of the new STEM building at Thorp Academy which meets our specification for a high quality working environment for students and staff. Putting Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths in one building promotes collaboration between those subjects, and our links with the Reece Foundation is a welcome addition to the facilities we can now offer local students.”

Codelocks introduces new ‘Smart’ Lock Range

Advanced technology in a standalone lock enables easier access control - Codelocks announces availability of its first smart lock range, offering flexibility and convenience by providing a range of entry methods.

The new CL5500 range utilises wireless technology giving users the ability to connect remotely and choose between pushbutton code, smart card or smartphone access.

The keyless entry reduces the need for onsite staff to manage access and the hassle of managing or replacing lost keys. Self-service entry offers accessibility outside normal working hours helping businesses operate more efficiently. Monitoring all access and lock usage is straightforward with comprehensive audit trail data reporting.

Using advanced programming capabilities, building managers can control and operate CL5500 locks remotely via a smartphone, update basic settings and generate multiple, date- and time-sensitive codes. The lock can also be set in code-free mode at fixed times of the day when access is required for cleaning, maintenance or deliveries. Users can create up to 10 different code-free periods, which automatically enable when scheduled.

Grant Macdonald, Managing Director of Codelocks explains:
“We recognise that smart digital locks are the latest IoT-based innovation that can help make building managers’ working lives easier. Our new smart wireless digital locks enable better access control within buildings, while significantly reducing the burden on time for on-going management tasks.
“By combining smart technology with wireless access, alongside traditional keypad and card access options, many types of users including building managers, home rental owners and home care service providers will benefit from increased levels of convenience and control.
“With so much choice available it’s difficult to know which access control product is best for each businesses’ building, staff, customers and budget, and will work alongside any current systems. Our new CL5500 smart locks offer flexibility, suiting a wide range of environments and varying needs. They are also supported by our team of experts offering application advice and after sales technical support.”

David Borrie, co-founder of rehearsal studios business, Pirate Studios, explains how the CL5500 has enabled his company to provide 24/7 access to its customers:
“We were very lucky in finding Codelocks when we did.  We were looking for a way to manage customers entering the studio building and individual studio rooms at specific times.
“Codelocks fitted CL5510 smart locks on the front door and individual studio room doors, and KL1550 KitLock locker locks on the storage for music equipment. These locks allow codes to be created via an online portal and issued to our customers via email or text message. This eliminated the need for staff to be onsite.
“Musicians receive personalised codes for self-service access to the rehearsal space and storage lockers. Unique codes can be issued for different locks, if a musician needed to access their kit, but not a rehearsal space, they would be given two codes: one for the front door and one for storage. Or, for studio room hires, musicians would be given a code for the front door and one for an individual studio door.
“Codelocks’ smart locks increase convenience and helps us keep prices low for our customers.”

Jewers Swift Doors Secure Lok’nStore Depots

Leading self-storage specialists Lok’nStore have installed Jewers’ Swift bi-folding doors for customer access at their depots throughout South and Central England.

Lok’nStore Group Integration Manager Tom Lampard explained,

“These doors are being used day in and day out so they had to be durable and low maintenance as well as secure to protect our customers’ precious belongings. Customers can turn up at any time during opening hours when they want access to their property, and it’s not practical to have fully trained staff on hand just to operate the doors. Therefore the doors had to be easy for anybody to operate, and safety was a key issue to avoid any mishaps during operation.”
The doors supplied and installed by Jewers were manual versions of the successful Swift bi-folding doors. These robust doors are designed for heavy duty applications, and the low resistance hinges ensure continued effortless operation.

Jewers’ director Mark Jewers commented,
“The doors are to be operated by the public as well as staff, hence have been designed with ease of operation and complete user safety in mind. Our manually operated doors incorporate soft compound weather seals to all edges, which protect against finger and toe trapping, robust moulded pull handles and waist height drop bolts to maximise safety during operation. The doors are side hung with a simple guide track at the head to control the movement of the leaves. At the floor there is no bottom track, but an extremely low profile chamfered threshold plate with anti-slip grooves assists door operation and increases user safety.”
Lampard added, “These doors are our customer interface and an integral part of our public image. The white panel finish is hard wearing so they will always look good, while the minimal maintenance will help ensure we can continue to provide the highest quality of service for all our customers.”

As in previous years, The London Classic Car Show will attract a large number of celebrities from the motoring world over the four days of the event. Previous guests include: James May, Chris Evans, David Coulthard, Jenson Button, Sir Stirling Moss, Ari Vatanen, Gordon Murray, James Martin and Jodie Kidd. Expect plenty more big names in 2017.

Event director Bas Bungish said: “Although only in its third year, the London Classic Car Show has already established itself as the classic car show by which all others are judged. We have introduced many innovative features and have more exciting plans for 2017.”

Tickets to the London Classic Car Show 2017 are now available from the show website – thelondonclassiccarshow.co.uk – and start at £24 for single adult entry (£27 on the door on the day).

EasyGates produce DHF Code of Practice Videos

EasyGates, Nationwide electric gate & garage door automation, access control and safety supplier are producing a number of animated videos regarding the DHF Code of Practice.

The DHF (Door & Hardware Federation) trade body that represents the UK gate and door industry, released a new code of practice this summer - DHF TS 011:2016. Several key elements of this code of practice have been designed to demystify complex standards and make things clearer for installers and maintainers of gates and barriers to understand.

The code is based on best practice and aims to reduce the risks associated with the powered gate to as low as is reasonably practicable.

EasyGates are in the process of producing a number of animated videos to make it easy to understand the code of practice document, and to show how to practically implement some of the new testing requirements.

The videos will cover the following subjects: portal area test piece, force testing, swing gate lower rail hazards and swing gate hinge areas. These will be available to view at www.easygatesdirect.co.uk and YouTube in the coming weeks.

National Sales Manager Stuart Roddy said:
‘We are a main supplier of electric gate and garage door automation and access control. We are also long standing members of the DHF and feel a huge responsibility to comply and support the new code.
‘Our in-house studio have the tools available to produce high quality 3D videos and we are happy to spend the time producing these animations to support and share with installers and maintainers’.
EasyGates stock over 2,000 products relevant to the electric gate & garage door automation, access control and safety sectors. Customers can get support via phone, live chat and email or refer to manuals online at manuals.easygates.co.uk.

New Machine Accelerates Door Production at Hörmann UK

Door production at Hörmann’s UK headquarters is being ramped up thanks to new production line technology that will increase the speed and accuracy of door modifications.

The CNC (computerised numerical control) machine is a digital device that uses a computer to control workshop tools. It’s one of the most advanced systems of its kind and will be used to alter the size and design of domestic doors – a job that previously had to be done by hand.

It has an accuracy range of 0.03mm and it will reduce the amount of time spent on alterations from 40 minutes to just 5. In addition to boosting productivity, the system will also improve safety by minimising human contact with sharp tools.

Hörmann has invested around £150,000 in the CNC technology following a further £70,000 investment in stock management after the number of modified products produced last year rose by a staggering 40%.

Hörmann’s UK Marketing Manager, David O’Mara, says:
“The CNC machine is a really exciting development for us. It will provide much greater flexibility for our customers, who will now be able to make more elaborate design specifications. We’ll also be able to provide much shorter lead times on domestic products and eventually we hope to explore the possibility of a 24-hour turnaround on our industrial panel orders.”

For more information on Hörmann’s product range and service packages, please call 01530 513000 or visit www.hormann.co.uk
