P C Henderson comments how housing projects can cater for all generations

At this year’s budget Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne announced a £500m builders Finance Fund to provide loans for developers. While this will help boost work for builders, and for increasing the number of houses, P C Henderson, leading door hardware manufacturer, comments on the importance of considering the interior detail of a project to cater for all generations.

Andrew Royle, UK Commercial Director, P C Henderson advises:
“We welcome the announcement which is good news for our trade customers. What is vital with new housing projects is that a well-designed interior is created which caters for all homebuyers to provide a flexible space.”

“The design and functionality of a home is an important consideration to provide occupiers with a comfortable place to live in. Choosing the right fixtures and fittings, such as sliding door systems, can help houses meet the needs of all housebuyers.”

It was also announced that the government is set to introduce a new Right to Build scheme with £150 million of finance to help support people who want to build their own homes.

“With people considering building their dream home it’s important to remember that vital space can be created through the specification of cleverly designed sliding door gear systems. These can help create a modern finish that is functional and flexible,” adds Andrew.

In a house with ten 3ft internal doors, up to an additional 70sq ft of usable space can be created by eliminating the room needed by a swing door to function.

A new £150 million fund for the regeneration of social housing estates was also included in the budget.
