Vufold announces new colour to its Master bi-fold door range

Vufold, the leading British manufacturing retailer of bi-fold doors has announced that it’s ever popular Master range of external doors is now available in a grey finish on its 1.8, 2.1, 2.4, 2.7, 3 and 3.6 metre wide door sets.

The Master range is manufactured using a 'slow grown' hardwood core and has 54mm thick doors that are finished off with hardwood veneer that has a crisp three coat factory-applied finish. Classy stainless steel hardware completes this durable and totally affordable product. The Master Bi-fold doors come with slim stiles to give customers a bigger glass area that affords more light into the home.

Up until now the Master range of bi-fold doors has only been available in a crisp brilliant white but customer demand has lead the Cheshire based company to add an alternative grey colour to three quarters of the range.

Marketing Manager for Vufold, Kerry Murphy-Kaytan says the introduction of the new colour range could pave the way for even more changes if it is warranted by customer demand;
“We have listened to our customers and responded with the new range of grey finishes in all of our Master door sets up to and including 3.6 metres wide. If customers tell us that they want even more options we very well may start producing the Master in our 4.2 and 4.8 metre wide sets as well.”
The full Master range has options of three, four, five and six door sets with a price range from £1419 - £3359.

For more information on the Master and all other Vufold bi-fold doors, visit www.vufold.co.uk

Abloy Showcases Locking Solutions At Patient First

Security expert Abloy UK is showcasing its range of security solutions at Patient First 2015, with representatives on hand at stand H05 to discuss the systems that make it the leading manufacturer of keyless locking integration for the healthcare sector.

Held at ExCeL London between 12 – 13 November 2015, Patient First is a national event focusing on positive changes within the NHS mindset and methodology as the only way to improve patient safety outcomes.

Abloy will be promoting web-based security management solution, PROTEC2 CLIQ, which allows for the remote management of disparate or large electronic master-keyed sites at any time, from anywhere in the world. The system is gaining popularity, having undergone trials at Scunthorpe Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

PROTEC2 CLIQ provides comprehensive audit trails on medicine cabinet cylinders and padlocks, and the ability to remove lost or stolen keys from the system, thereby providing tight key management at all times. This means nurses can be more efficient as they do not have to waste time looking for keys, and medicines are secured more effectively.

Abloy will also be presenting its OPTIMA system, which is the ideal solution for patient lockers. OPTIMA is an electronic handle set or escutcheon that provides a completely standalone single door control operating as an electronic master keying system.

Keeping patients’ belongings and prescribed drugs safe from loss or damage can be a challenge for NHS organisations, due to the movement of patients during their stay, their reluctance to hand over property for safekeeping and the volume of patients seen on NHS premises.

By securing these personal items in a cabinet or locker, patients can have peace of mind that their belongings are secure, and only they can access them using an RFID access card.

Jon Burke, Marketing Manager for Abloy UK, said:

“PROTEC 2CLIQ has proven to be a valuable addition to Scunthorpe Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, and we hope to see other healthcare organisations utilising the system in order to benefit both the staff and patients.

“We’re really looking forward to getting face-to-face with healthcare professionals at Patient First, and explaining how the PROTEC2 CLIQ and OPTIMA systems operate and the full range of benefits they provide.”

For further information on any of the products and services available from Abloy UK, please call 01902 364 500 or email marketing@abloy.co.uk

HP Doors achieve accreditation to the RISQS rail sector supplier framework

High Performance Doors Limited is now an approved supplier on the RISQS framework – having met the stringent criteria needed in order to install steel doorsets within the railway industry.

What is RISQs?

RISQS, formerly known as Achilles Link-up, has been developed to provide a service for the qualification of suppliers for all products and services that are procured by the industry. RISQS supports Network Rail, LUL/Transport for London, passenger, light rail and freight train operators, rolling stock organisations, main infrastructure contractors and other rail products and services providers in the management of supply chain risk. RISQS is an independent, third party qualification assessment of a supplier’s capability to supply products and services.

Cannon Street Tube Station
Having worked in the rail industry for many years on projects such as London Underground, Network rail schemes Blackfriars and Canon Place and the high speed link stations of Stratford, Ebbsfleet and St Pancras, HP Doors has longstanding, proven experience in this field. It quickly became apparent to the management team that obtaining the new RISQs accreditation was imperative for the Martin Roberts Steel Doors division.

The team conducted lengthy research and measured themselves against the many requisites of the RISQs railway supplier framework, including the usual company status, health and safety standards, ISO accreditations and insurances. Many of the requirements are also audited, with detailed evidence required.

Stu Hubert Sales Director for Martin Roberts shares his comments:
“Having worked hard to achieve the 4 RISQs accreditations, the Martin Roberts team is delighted to announce that we are now, officially an approved supplier to the UK railway industry and will continue to win prestigious projects in this arena.”

All New Ford GT Race Car to Make European Debut at Silverstone Ahead of Historic Return to Le Mans

Ford’s all-new GT race car – revealed at Le Mans in June – will make its European racing debut at the Silverstone Circuit in the U.K. next April.

Two cars will line up on the grid for the opening round of the 2016 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) where they will compete in the GT-Endurance Pro Class for the Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy.

The event is the first of nine WEC rounds announced by the FIA for 2016. Ford will later make its historic return to the Le Sarthe circuit in France where, 50 years ago, Ford’s GT40 won the first of four consecutive Le Mans titles.

“We believe the Ford GT’s advances in aerodynamics, light-weighting and EcoBoost power will make for a compelling race car that can once again compete on a global stage,” said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development and chief technical officer. “The same spirit that drove the innovation behind the first Ford GT still drives us as a company today. Let the racing begin!”

Based on the all-new Ford GT supercar unveiled in January and powered by the same Ford 3.5 litre EcoBoost engine, the all new Ford GT race car is engineered from advanced lightweight composites featuring carbon fibre for an exceptionally rigid but light chassis.

Both the race car and production car will arrive in 2016 to mark the 50th anniversary of Ford GT40 race cars placing 1-2-3 at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans. Ford went on to repeat its victory at Le Mans in 1967, 1968 and 1969.

As well as competing in the full 2016 FIA WEC, the GT Race Car will contest the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (WTSCC), making its global competition debut in January at the Rolex 24 in Daytona, Florida.

Drivers’ details will be announced later.

New HSE safety guidance on domestic powered gates welcomed by DHF

The Door & Hardware Federation (DHF) has welcomed new guidance to householders on the safety of powered domestic driveway gates.

The Health & Safety Executive is recommending that owners of domestic gates should have regular checks made on their gates to ensure they are safe. These checks should be carried out by competent contractors, says the HSE.

Householders are also being advised by the HSE that anyone carrying out any repairs, checks or adjustments to powered gates are subject to health and safety legislation. Legally, the contractor must ensure the gate is left in a safe condition following any maintenance or repair work that is carried out to ensure no-one is put at risk.

The DHF Powered Gate Group comprises Britain’s leading manufacturers, suppliers, installers and maintainers of powered automatic gates and gate automation equipment. It insists that its trained installers and maintainers meet their legal obligations and do not carry out work on domestic gates if they are unable to leave the gates in a safe condition.

Michael Skelding, general manager and secretary of the DHF, said:

"We warmly welcome this clarification of the legal issues surrounding the repair and maintenance of domestic gates. Existing guidance to domestic powered gate owners could have led them to believe that it was acceptable for them to ask a maintainer to fix their gate but to refuse a safety upgrade.

"Now gate maintainers can demonstrate to the customer that leaving a gate in a dangerous state is not an option because it leaves the maintainer liable for prosecution under health and safety legislation."
The new HSE guidance on domestic powered gate safety is timely: October 12 - 18 has been declared Gate Safety Week by the DHF Powered Gate Group. Campaigners have declared a week of action in October in a bid to dramatically improve the safety of automated gates in the UK.

In recent years, three children and three adults have been killed in powered gate accidents. It is estimated there are around 225,000 automated domestic gates in service in the UK, yet the industry says just 10 per cent of these are safe to use.

The key messages of Gate Safety Week are:

  • Properly installed and maintained automated gates are perfectly safe to use;
  • It is the duty of all those responsible for automated gates - owners, maintainers, installers - to ensure gates are safe to use.
There is comprehensive guidance for security professionals, gate owners and those responsible for specifying, managing and maintaining automatic gates on the Gate Safety Week website .

Countdown begins to Locksmithing and Security Industry’s Biggest Trade Expo

THE Master Locksmiths Association (MLA) is set to host Europe’s largest trade exhibition for the locksmithing and physical security industry.

Suppliers and manufacturers will meet visitors from all over the world, including China, Australia and Russia, at the exhibition organised by the MLA – the leading trade association for the locksmithing profession – at the International Centre in Telford from October 2-4.

The theme of this year’s MLA Expo is ‘Tomorrow’s Locksmithing Today’ to help encourage and develop a future generation to the historic profession.

Nearly 100 exhibitors have already signed up to the biennial event, which sees locksmiths and suppliers from right across the world meet to exhibit products and services, discuss industry trends and take part in training courses.

MLA development director Dr Steffan George said:

“It is a truly global exhibition involving people from within the locksmithing industry, and it is the biggest Expo ever in this its 18th incarnation.

“It is one of the most anticipated events in the security industry calendar, and provides a fantastic opportunity for locksmith and security companies and professionals from around the world to come together. They can showcase their products and services, network, share knowledge and make new contacts.”
Representatives from the Police, insurance industry and Neighbourhood Watch will also be at the sold-out event, along with newly qualified apprentices as the organisation strives to secure the future of the industry and ensure locksmithing is seen as a potential career.

ASSA ABLOY - the world’s biggest supplier of locks and security solutions - joined forces with the MLA and Skills for Security – the skills body for the security industry - to support an apprenticeship scheme.
The locksmith apprenticeship was set up in January 2014 with a view to generating the first nationally recognised qualification for the locksmith sector, as well as securing its future by encouraging more young people to consider locksmithing as a profession.

Sweet taste of success for Sunderland firm providing security for 500,000 honey bees

Gary Trotter, general manager at Hadrian Technology

Staff from Sunderland-based CCTV company, Hadrian Technology, are getting a buzz out of their latest project after being asked to provide security cameras for a honey bee hotel.

German supermarket Aldi asked Hadrian Technology to install four high-definition CCTV cameras to protect eight hives outside of its UK headquarters at Atherstone, Warwickshire.

Aldi installed the insect observation hive as an interesting feature for staff and visitors, who will be able to watch 500,000 busy bees flying in and out of the hives on a giant screen in the retailer’s reception area.

While providing CCTV to protect a beehive is unusual, security cameras will help to keep the insects safe and secure and deter thieves and vandals.

Thousands are honey bees are stolen every year as a decline in bee numbers means hives, and queens, are worth more. This summer, 30,000 bees and three queens were stolen from a honey farm in Anglesey, North Wales.

Gary Trotter, general manager at Hadrian Technology, said:
“This was a really unusual project for us, but we fit security cameras anywhere there is a need – and even bees need security. It will protect them from being stolen or from malicious damage.

“We have installed two internal and two external cameras protecting the entrances and the hives. It will help to protect the bees and all the equipment. We have also installed data infrastructure for Aldi to install two webcams to monitor the bees entering and leaving the hives.

“The CCTV cameras were installed before the bees arrived and Aldi will be able to monitor the security of the thousands of bees.”
The provision of security cameras for the bee hotel is part of a larger project undertaken by Hadrian Security to install and upgrade 300 CCTV cameras at Aldi’s distribution centre and car park, which is due to be completed this autumn.

It is the biggest contract ever undertaken by Hadrian Technology, one of the UK’s leading and fastest-growing security supply, installation and maintenance companies, which is on target to deliver a turnover of £9m during 2015/16.

Hadrian Technology designs bespoke CCTV systems for a diverse range of commercial, leisure and retail clients across the UK and Ireland, and installs more than 800 cameras every month.

Construction sector supports campaign for improved automated gates safety

The UK’s building and construction sector has pledged its support to a rapidly growing campaign to make unsafe automated gates a thing of the past.

Build UK comprises 27 of the industry’s largest main contractors and 40 leading trade associations representing over 11,500 specialist contractors. It is the latest organisation to back a vital national safety campaign designed to drastically reduce the number of accidents caused by automatic gates.

Build UK was created as a result of a merger earlier this year between the National Specialist Contractors’ Council and UK Contractors Group. It has put its weight behind Gate Safety Week being held from October 12 - 18 organised by the Door & Hardware Federation.

Said Build UK’s communications manager Keith Motson:
“As the single voice of the construction industry’s contracting supply chain, Build UK fully supports the DHF’s Gate Safety Week initiative in raising awareness of the need for properly installed and maintained automated gates.”
Also joining the campaign is the 700 member-strong British Woodworking Federation. Its chief executive Iain McIlwee said:
“As leaders in the field and in line with our promotion of standards, quality and best practice across the industry, the BWF would like to offer its support to the DHF and Gate Safety Week in raising awareness of meeting safety standards for powered gates.”
Gate Safety Week is being organised by the Door & Hardware Federation (DHF) Powered Gate Group which comprises Britain’s leading manufacturers, suppliers, installers and maintainers of powered automatic gates and gate automation equipment.

In the run up to gate safety week, campaigners are actively encouraging best practice in all aspects of powered gates and will be working hard to further improve standards across the industry.

In recent years, three children and three adults have been killed in powered gate accidents. It is estimated there are more than 500,000 automated gates in service in the UK, yet the industry says just 30 per cent of these are safe to use.

There is comprehensive guidance for those responsible for specifying, managing and maintaining automatic gates on the Gate Safety Week website www.gatesafetyweek.org.uk . This includes information on safety legislation and a detailed rundown of the safety features to look for on an automatic gate.

Jaguar’s legendary test driver to host tour to the Hotel de France

Jaguar’s legendary test driver Norman Dewis OBE is to host a special tour to the famous Hotel de France between October 28th and November 1st.

Drivers will be able to join Norman on a 5-day trip that will take them to the circuit at Lohéac, the famous motoring hotel, where they will spend three nights, and Le Mans, where he raced for Jaguar. The tour is being run by specialist tour operator Classic Grand Touring and spaces are still available.

Owner of the Hotel de France Martin Overington said: “This is a unique opportunity to spend time with one of motoring’s legendary drivers and to hear from him about his racing and driving experiences as we explore the Loire Valley, one of France’s most beautiful regions.”

On Saturday evening, after a day of driving and visits to the principal chateaux in the Loire, Norman will talk about his experience with Jaguar, driving in the Mille Miglia and delivering the E-Type to the Geneva Motor Show in 1961.

Situated in the town of La Chartre-sur-le-Loir, around 40km away from Le Mans, the Hotel de France is famous for its long association with motor sport and the Le Mans 24 hour race. From the 50’s to the 80’s, many drivers such as Stirling Moss, Caroll Shelby and Derek Bell, and victorious teams would use the hotel as headquarters, preparing their racing cars in the courtyard and then driving them to and from the circuit on public roads.

The Loire Valley is famous for its picturesque towns, chateaux and country roads, which are regarded as some of the most beautiful in France. Drivers will have the opportunity to visit these magnificent chateaux as well as enjoy sampling at the local vineyards.

Classic Grand Touring can be contacted on +44 (0) 1483 281 282 or thomas@classicgt.co.uk

Tour package includes return sailing from/to Portsmouth with Brittany Ferries, three nights at the Hotel de France on a half board basis, all visits and transfers described in the itinerary, services of an experienced tour manager.

About Norman Dewis:

Norman Dewis, as Jaguar’s chief development test engineers, has spent 36 years deciding how the company’s cars should feel to drive. Intimately involved with the development and testing of all Jaguar models, Norman hails from the golden era of Jaguar when the factory not only produced a stream of elegant, high performance luxury saloons and sports cars, but could also build equally elegant – and extremely successful – race cars.

After his retirement in 1985, aged 65 he has acted as an ambassador-at-large for Jaguar, attending events worldwide. He has been associated with Jaguar for more than 60 years. The achievement he is proudest of is developing the disc brake with Dunlop, an innovation that has saved countless lives over the years.

Geofire highlights worrying fire door safety statistics

The Salamander radio controlled range of door holders and closers
also connect wirelessly to a controller, which is easily wired
into the existing fire alarm system.

Fire Door Safety Week, 14-20 September 2015, reminds us of the vital role fire doors play in the protection of a building’s occupants. Their correct specification, installation and use is paramount to the safety of all those who use a facility.

Clearly, however well intentioned, wedging open fire doors is illegal and provides no protection for a building and its occupants. In the event of a fire, fire doors are designed to stop smoke and flames from rapidly spreading through a building.

Chilling fire safety statistics
  • 258 fire fatalities in England 2014-15
  • £1bn fire-related property insurance claims in 2014
  • June 2014 Paignton Devon hotel owner sentenced to six months imprisonment for severe fire safety breaches including blocked and ‘hooked-open’ fire doors with others failing to open or close properly

Solving the persistent wedged-open door problem

Thankfully, to solve the wedged-open door problem, there’s a new generation of acoustic, digital door technology that’s a clever innovation; offering wire free protection to buildings and their occupants. Geofire’s innovative Agrippa ‘listen and learn’ acoustic range includes a magnetic fire door holder and an overhead battery powered ‘swing free’ fire door closer.

The Salamander radio controlled range of door holders and closers also connect wirelessly to a controller, which is easily wired into the existing fire alarm system. All products are battery powered and wire-free, saving time, installation costs and any disruption.

UK manufacturer Geofire specialises in the manufacture of a wide range of electromagnetic door holders and other activation devices used widely as part of fire, security or ventilation systems.
