Norseal Ensures Safety is on Trend for Primark Birmingham

Known for affordable and fashionable clothing, Primark was taking no chances with fire safety when their flagship Birmingham store was built.

When you’re dealing with the biggest fashion retail store in the world, according to the Guinness Book of Records, no less, fire safety is of paramount importance. That’s why Primark used Pyroplex fire only and fire and smoke intumescent strips, supplied by Norseal, to prevent the spread of smoke and fire, should the unthinkable happen.

According to the latest UK government figures, in 2018/2019 there were 1,565 fires in retail premises that were attended by the fire service in England alone. With that in mind, Primark chose to fit Pyroplex fire and smoke intumescent strips around doors during the construction of the Birmingham store to protect staff and customers from the potentially lethal spread of fire and smoke.

Cold smoke can be a silent killer, creeping through gaps in doors and incapacitating people well before any sign of flames. Norseal’s number one choice, Pyroplex fire and smoke intumescent strips stop the spread of smoke, before the heat from a fire has caused the strips to intumesce, protecting buildings and the people within them.

The company’s fire and smoke intumescent strips are compliant with BS 476-31.1 and BS EN 1634-3 cold smoke seal regulations.

For applications where protection from cold smoke is not an issue, Norseal’s best-selling Pyroplex fire only intumescent seals are an integral part of fire containment protection and meet BS 476: Part 22: 1987.

Whether to protect from fire alone, or fire and smoke, Pyroplex intumescent seals are designed with ease of installation in mind. The seals are easy to cut to size and have a high tack self-adhesive backing.

Suitable for use in rebates in timber door leaves or door frames, single and double action latched and unlatched doors, Norseal stock a wide range of Pyroplex seals available in a range of colours to match any interior, no matter how stylish.
