Concours Winning 1973 Ferrari 246GT Dino up for Auction with The Market

A concours winning 1973 Ferrari 246GT Dino which was at the centre of one man’s quest to track down and buy back his old car, and the focus of his subsequent book ‘Dino Days’, will be offered for sale by The Market, the original, online classic car auction house.

One of just 498 right-hand drive Dino GTs delivered to the UK via Maranello Concessionaires Limited and finished in Rosso Red, the Dino has been owned by a number of classic car collectors, with the current owner currently enjoying his second ownership of the car.

Now available on the open market once again, the highly collectible car will grace The Market’s exhibitor stand (F-18) at the London Classic Car Show next week ahead of its auction online beginning on 24th February, when it is expected to sell for £210,000 - £260,000.

Tristan Judge, managing director and founder, The Market comments:
“This Dino tells the story of one man’s devotion to his beloved car, so much so that he tracked it down 10 years after selling it and bought it back!
“The Dino is one of the most iconic of the Ferrari models and has a huge following.
“Given how rarely these cars come to market, we’re very proud to be entrusted with the sale of this particular car and we invite prospective buyers to come and inspect the car on our stand at the London Classic Car Show.”

The current owner first bought the Ferrari 246GT with the fitting chassis number “07246” and registered ‘646 DRY’ in 1992. Having been recently refreshed by marque specialists, he entered it into the 1994 Ferrari Owners’ Club concours, where the car was placed first in its class.

Five years later, he decided to sell the car to raise funds to support his young family, but immediately regretted it. It wasn’t until 2016 that, after years of searching for a Dino to buy, his brother found one for auction. Upon further investigation, he discovered that it was the very same Dino he had previously owned. He successfully bought the car, albeit for approximately six times the price he sold it for.

Now the proud owner of the Dino for the second time, he decided to mark the occasion by driving the car to its birth place, the Ferrari factory in Maranello, Italy. On the road trip he would meet as many fellow Dino owners as he could, with each owner’s story to be documented in his book ‘Dino Days’, which is dedicated to the Ferrari marque and classic car ownership.

Now for sale once again, today the Dino is presented in very good condition having been maintained and serviced by marque specialists throughout its life. Work completed on the car includes engine, gearbox, suspension, steering and brakes rebuild, as well as a paintwork respray and re-trimming of the tan with black ‘Daytona’ inserts interior. The odometer currently reads 72,300 miles. A huge history file and Ferrari Classiche certificate accompany the car.

“We know this will be a sad sale for the owner, but this is also a wonderful opportunity for another Ferrari fan or collector to own this special Dino,” concludes Tristan.

The 1973 Ferrari 246GT Dino will be on display on stand F-18 at the London Classic Car Show at Kensington Olympia between 20th and 23rd February.
