Last September we reported on Jewers Doors breaking ground at the site of their new purpose-built factory and office building in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire. We are now pleased to provide you with an update on the progress made to date.
The site for the new premises at Juno Place on Stratton Business Park is only a quarter of a mile from their current site and comprises 45,700 sq. ft of factory and over 12,000 sq. ft of office space, more than doubling their existing facilities.
Below is a list of the key dates and other information:
- Parkway Construction MK Ltd was appointed as the main contractor on 27th July 2020 to build the factory under a Design and Build Contract.
- Construction started on 14th September 2020 with a completion date of 29th March 2021. Parkway is still on schedule to meet this deadline.
- The first phase was to “cut and fill” the site and lay the foundations
- Erection of the steel frame started on 27/10/2020
- The building was made watertight by 19/01/2021 when the internal factory floor concrete slab was poured
- Office floors & ceilings
- Electrical first & second fix in offices & factory
- Air conditioning & ventilation systems
- Partition walls
- Toilets & kitchens
- Main factory cranes
- The building is highly insulated with energy-efficient heating systems in both the factory & offices
- There is 209 sq.m of Solar PV panels on the roof. The system is capable of producing a peak output of 42 kW. Excess electricity can be fed back into the National Grid.
- 8 EV charging points will be provided initially for employees in anticipation of the uptake in electric and hybrid vehicles. Provisions has also been made to easily increase the number of charging points in the future.
Jewers has several equipment suppliers working directly for them who are due to start installation work in mid-March.
