Door Brands to Make an Entrance at FIT Show 2023

FIT Show organisers have announced that doors remain the number one product of interest amongst pre registered visitors for its May 23 - 25, 2023 (Birmingham NEC) event.

A stellar lineup of door-focused brands will exhibit at the event and help meet demand from the industry. Amongst the lineup of over 200 brands from 20 countries will be exhibitors showcasing the latest entrance solutions, from composite, steel and fire doors through to rolling garage and bifolding for internal and external application.

Just a few of the door brands visitors can look forward to seeing at the show include; Glazerite, Mennie Canada, Comp Door, UK Doors Online, Alunet Systems, Hormann, Gerda Doors by Pioneer Trading, Selecta Systems, Listers, Fortis Aluminium, Made for Trade, Matador, Quickslide, Strongdor, ODL, AB Staliu, Bel'M, Eko-Okna, Dako, JDUK, Invisifold, Ventrolla and Star Doors.

Two of the window and door industry’s most respected brands have come together to launch a specification-leading residential door range, to be revealed for the first time at FIT Show. The Residence Door Collection by Apeer delivers a range of 20 door styles that have been curated to complement Residence Collection windows in terms of aesthetics, quality and performance, and built around a specification developed by leading composite door manufacturer Apeer, that is designed to future-proof the range.

Doors in general feature prominently within the FIT Show visitor ‘wish list’, with composite doors, internal doors, garage doors and fire doors all voted within the top ten. Other products that featured amongst the top include aluminium windows, aluminium systems, door hardware and furniture, tools, lanterns, adhesives and sealants.

FIT Show event director, Nickie West comments:
“FIT Show has evolved significantly over the last decade. When we launched in 2013, UPVC windows were a mainstay of the visitor wishlist and this was reflected by the products presented by exhibitors. Over the years, the rosta of products at FIT Show has evolved to reflect the changing needs of the market. We now represent every material, from UPVC through to aluminium and timber, across the full product range, from rooflights and lanterns through to bifolds.
“It’s our responsibility as event organisers to enhance the show’s proposition to meet the needs of the market. We launched our new outdoor living feature to reflect increased consumer demand for decking, awnings and garden rooms. FIT Show 2023 will see an increased focus on rooflight and lanterns, another key area of growth for us.

“It’s interesting to see that doors have held steady at the top of the visitor shopping list for FIT Show and I’m delighted that we’re able to meet this demand with such a strong lineup of quality door providers across the full range of installer requirements - domestic and commercial, interior and exterior.”

Mennie Canada, one of the largest door producers in the world, is the leading supplier of glass reinforced plastic (GRP) doors in Canada. Mennie Canada will be making their FIT Show debut.

Mark Williams comments:
“We’re exhibiting at FIT Show so that we can present our Canadian designed composite door, which has proven itself in extreme weather. We want to give UK manufacturers an extra option to meet their needs.
“The UK market is very important for our global strategy. FIT Show is the main platform that we have selected to introduce our product and open the market in the UK. We’re excited to exhibit here for the first time.”
Jennifer Tucker, marketing manager for Metador said:
“As UK-based door manufacturers our vast range of bespoke security and fire-rated steel doors is ideal for those visiting FIT show and we are looking forward to meeting existing customers and potential new ones.
“We will be showcasing a number of our products including our Defender Thermaguard Technology, which is independently accredited to achieve a 1.5 U-Value, our Defender Xtreme – an LPS1175 accredited doorset, PASguard, our PAS24 rated doorset, plus our Defender Duopar – a 2-part frame door system with no visible fixings in a wood grain effect finish, amongst others.”
Returning exhibitor, Strongdor will be looking to build on their 2022 debut which results in £1m worth of quotations. Strongdor will be showcasing its new and improved fire-rated steel doors at FIT Show, alongside its market-leading range of steel door solutions.

Speaking about its FIT Show return, Strongdor marketing director, Sarah Cooper said:
“We are seriously excited to get back to FIT Show and build on the success of our 2022 debut.
“We’ve worked extremely hard on our new product development over the last twelve months and have worked closely with our stand contractors to develop a concept that will showcase our range of products, engage visitors and drill home our product benefits.
“Those who dare to take on the ‘Panic or Escape’ room are in for a real treat. As well as learning more about Strongdor, meeting the team and our special guest Theodor, they could take home the top prize of a Milwaukee Cordless Combi Drill & Impact Driver!”
FIT Show is the UK’s leading trade show for the window, doors, glass, hardware and components industry. FIT Show returns to the NEC Birmingham from 23 - 25 May 2023 for its tenth-year anniversary edition.

The three ‘Fire Door Safety in Review’ guides have been compiled using expert insight and original research from relevant sectors and emphasize a fundamental misunderstanding towards fire safety responsibility and fire door hardware across all three fields.

Discussing Allegion’s visit, Kirk Smith, business development manager at Allegion UK, commented:

Multiplex Goes Keyless as it Digitalises Site Access at Flagship Nine Elms Site

A new digital site access cylinder system, activated by a smartphone, has been implemented by construction contractor Multiplex during the building of R&F Properties’ flagship One Nine Elms development in South London.

Multiplex is the first contractor in the UK to utilise the technology, replacing the need for physical keys used by contractors on sites.

The new innovation emerged after Rainham-based architectural ironmongers, London Architectural Hardware Ltd was requested by Multiplex to find a solution to the issues caused by keys being handed in late or lost on its site. London Architectural Hardware Ltd worked together with DOM UK Ltd, a leading manufacturer of digital and mechanical solutions and access and control specialists EasySecure, to create the software and hardware which powers the innovative new system.

The system allows contractors to access secure areas through a digital application on their phone, named ‘DOM Key’ which utilises an innovative cylinder lock, known as DOM ENiQ Pro V2 Smartlock Digital cylinder.

Using the EasySecure platform, site personnel will have their login portal and profiles, keeping track of who is accessing properties. Personnel must request key access to a property through their mobile phones using the DOM Key app, and once approved a digital key will be sent to provide access.

Most sites currently utilise traditional mechanical locks whereby personnel provide a handwritten name and signature to access physical keys. In many instances, keys go missing. Should damage occur or theft take place within the secure areas the handwritten names can be difficult to read, meaning that cases can go unresolved and reoccur.

Contractors will now have robust records listing personnel who accessed the area which include details such as the date and time.

Furthermore, there will no longer be a limitation of keys available to gain access. Previously, keys which had been lost or not handed back promptly caused delays and increased costs.

Andrew Richardson, Head of Fit Out for Multiplex commented:
“As a contractor working on some of the most prestigious schemes in the country, we have been looking for a smarter way of providing controlled access rather than relying on mechanical locks and key.
“With the assistance of London Architectural Hardware, DOM and EasySecure, we have developed a unique system which allows access to be provided via smart phones. The benefits are clear with time saving for contractors, easy accessibility and countability, which ultimately increases the efficiency for all.”

A survey was conducted among the workforce of Multiplex at One Nine Elms, which provided the following feedback:

  • “Greatest key system that I have ever used, it saved so much time and hassle”
  • “The smart lock system is more secure than a key, the smart lock system avoided you from carrying a heavy bundle of keys, and saved time to work.”
  • “I’m very impressed”
  • “Easy to use and very useful application”
  • “The electronic lock is very smart, very fast ...I like it so much.”

Most workers also agreed that the new system saved time on-site and would recommend it on other sites.

Multiplex is the contractor for the design and build of the residential-led, mixed-use, R&F Properties scheme known as One Nine Elms.

Located in the London Borough of Wandsworth, the scheme will include 487 apartments, a luxury hotel and 1,000 sq ft of retail space. Once completed, One Nine Elms will become one of the tallest residential-led developments in Europe, with City Tower containing 56 floors and River Tower containing 42 floors.

Ebay Launches ‘Certified Recycled Portal’ Revealing British Motorists Saved £99 Million by Switching to Used Parts

Motorists in the UK saved £99 million in 2022 by opting for used parts and accessories instead of brand-new replacements, according to new research by eBay. The online marketplace revealed the impact of second-hand parts as it relaunched its Certified Recycled programme, which sells recycled vehicle parts from 81 certified sellers.

Certified Recycled parts can be up to 70% cheaper compared to OEM parts RRP*, and deliver peace of mind for shoppers.

All parts are vetted and warrantied – body parts feature a 12-month warranty while mechanical parts come with three months of protection – and are only supplied from end-of-life vehicles from approved sellers.

Additionally, they also come with a reduced environmental footprint. Last year, eBay UK shoppers buying used car parts and accessories saved more than 16,000 tonnes of CO2e and prevented 3,000,000kg of waste from ending up in landfills, simply by choosing not to buy a box-fresh part.

This saving resulted from the millions of used parts sold across the eBay site last year, including almost one million exterior parts and accessories (including items such as mirrors, bumpers and door handles), over 400,000 lighting parts, and over 130,000 engine-related parts.

Certified Recycled parts provide motorists with added peace of mind. They are sold by businesses that have been checked and certified by the Vehicle Recyclers Association (VRA) and are subject to an annual audit of their processes and policies.

This means that any part listed has been sourced from and can be traced to an end-of-life vehicle, and has been accurately identified, recorded, tested and graded.

See how it's done on the Late Brake Show video here.

Dr Tony Tong, Head of Automotive at eBay UK, said:

“Certified Recycled parts can be a huge benefit to customers and businesses alike. With parts delays, rising costs and more focus than ever on making the right choices to reduce our carbon footprint, these parts have the potential to help save money, time and the environment.

“We’re making it as easy as possible for people to find these parts and to understand the potential benefits they bring, in the hope that motorists will increasingly choose Certified Recycled parts as alternatives to buying brand new items.”

The first Certified Recycled part was listed on eBay in June 2020, and the marketplace now hosts 81 certified sellers across the UK. Sales of the parts continue to grow, with an increase of more than 10% between 2021 and 2022.

Jonny Smith, motoring journalist and frontman of The Late Brake Show, said:

“I have owned dozens of cars, and always have a fleet of classic and modified project cars on the go. From regular maintenance items to obscure and ultra-rare parts and accessories, eBay has long been my first port of call.

“There are huge benefits to Certified Recycled parts over new components – especially lower quality pattern parts – and this has become especially relevant in current economic times, where your budget needs to go further, or when availability on new parts has been patchy.”

According to eBay research, 16.1% of motorists often buy recycled parts to save money, while 14% choose used items to reduce their carbon emissions^.

While some car owners are happy to buy parts themselves, one-in-10^ stated they would prefer to buy recycled parts from a professional service centre, highlighting the important role that garages and workshops can play in changing buyer behaviour.

To showcase the potential benefits of switching to Certified Recycled parts fitment for everyone from individual motorists to fleet customers and bodyshops, eBay has produced a White Paper that takes an in-depth look at the industry. To read the report, click here.

* Provided by Audatex, as of 2021

^ Consumer research was undertaken on behalf of eBay by Censuswide, with fieldwork conducted between 9th and 11th January 2023. The survey sample was 1,535 UK respondents who own or drive a car (aged 16+)

Opening up rooms with Visofold 1000 Slim from Tradelink

Tradelink’s Visofold system is the UK’s most popular aluminium bi-fold door range. The latest addition is the Visofold 1000 Slim which delivers a range of benefits for the fabricator, installer and end user.

Featuring new slimmer profiles, the sightlines of Visofold 1000 have been reduced by 10mm to 122mm to make the glazed area even larger.

Visofold can be used in domestic applications as either an alternative to sliding doors in residential properties or to open up an entire wall as part of a conservatory; the system will make the most of a beautiful view or bring a garden into the home.

When used commercially in a bar, café or restaurant, Visofold can create a glazed screen that allows in the maximum ingress of light in inclement weather and will also easily glide to open up an entire wall in warmer weather. Visofold doors offer a choice of opening configurations to suit any application. Sashes can be folded internally or externally; the opening placed at the side so the sashes all fold one way; at one end, to create a single entrance door for easy access; or in the middle to give the option of a double door.

All Visofold profiles feature a polyamide thermal break that enhances the thermal performance of the profile and improves the overall U-Value. Profiles feature EPDM high-quality gaskets and weather brushes to aid weather resistance. Visofold complies with the requirements of Building Regulations Document L 2010. Security is assured by multi-point lock mechanisms on main opening sashes, and shoot-bolt locking on floating mullions.

All Visofold doors have the option of either low thresholds for unimpeded, easy access or rebated thresholds that offer improved weather resistance. Visofold doors are available in a choice of standard or non-standard colours, including metallic, wood-structure, dual colour and Smart’s unique Sensations range of textured finishes. Fabricated using mitred corners, the attractive, slim-line profiles offer reduced sightlines while profiles are available in either square or rounded edge options.

Reynaers renews Commitment to Police Security Scheme to reassure Homeowners on Safety

Aluminium door and window specialist, Reynaers Aluminium UK, has renewed its membership with Secured by Design (SBD), the official police security initiative that sets a standard for safety in residential properties.

Established in 1965, Reynaers Aluminium is a leading European specialist in the development and marketing of innovative and sustainable aluminium solutions for windows, sliding and folding door systems, and curtain walling.

Committed to quality and the constant development of products, Reynaers puts a strong emphasis on security, making robust, high-performance systems that combine stylish aesthetics with strength and safety.

With a strong portfolio of sliding door systems that are used in corner-to-corner projects to open up property walls to the outside, as well as windows and doors, security is integral to the designs. To ensure its products meet the stringent demands of PAS 24, which enables products to meet Document Q and, in turn, SBD, Reynaers will create specific components to support fabrication where needed.

Reynaers supplies the components for Secured by Design products to a number of approved fabricator companies for a wide range of doorsets and window products. This includes a variety of aluminium doorsets, including double and single leaf, inward and outward opening, patio doorsets and slide systems. Their accredited window products include inward and outward opening, side and top hung, tilt and turn, tilt before turn, and casement windows.

This covers many of the company’s product ranges including MasterPatio, ConceptPatio, ConceptSystem, HiFinity, MasterLine and SlimLine.

As well as safety, Reynaers is focused on creating thermally efficient windows and doors that help to reduce energy emissions and has taken a leading position on sustainability within the industry. In 2022 the company furthered its environmental sustainability commitment, by signing up to science-based targets and has committed to reducing its direct CO² emissions by 46% and indirect emissions by 55% by 2030.

John McComb, Technical Services Director at Reynaers Aluminium, said:

“Security will always be a top priority for homeowners and Reynaers recognises that by ensuring its products meet stringent security standards and that fabrication requirements are met in the design and development of products.”

Secured by Design is owned by the UK Police Service with the specific aim of reducing crime and increasing safety for businesses and individuals.

The scheme seeks to improve the physical security of buildings and the surrounding area by encouraging the use of products such as doors, windows, locks and walling systems along with fencing systems that meet the SBD Police Preferred Specification security requirements.

Secured by Design Development Officer Ruari Robertson said:

“I am delighted that Reynaers Aluminium, which has been a valued member since 2010, has renewed its membership for a further three years. I look forward to our continued working relationship over the coming years.”

SBD works with a number of partner organisations, ranging from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities through to local authorities, housing associations, developers and manufacturers as well as with standards and certification bodies.

The scheme is the only way for companies to obtain police recognition for security-related products in the UK, through its Police Preferred Specification - a product-based accreditation scheme developed over 20 years ago, which provides a recognised standard for all security products that effectively deter and reduce crime. SBD works with manufacturers and standards authorities to ensure that security standards are current and updated to keep pace with emerging crime trends.

Doors and Automation: JCM on a Future in Smart Installations to Activate Doors

Avoiding incidents to save time and travel are the benefits users in our impatient world most seek. JCM knows about this must. They have heard their clients talk about it, and they experience it every day.

This is why, throughout 40 years of history, this company has devoted effort to making innovation available to all, to help create a more comfortable life and obtain more profitable business.

Joan Bonache, Business Manager at JCM, leader of the residential business department says:

“At JCM, we believe in smart entrances and digitising installations, being at the cutting edge of design, and manufacturing solutions to manage and provide security in automatic doors.”
The ingredients in JCM'S DNA consist of analysing and understanding the market, customer service, R+D, and training, to give free rein to innovation in response to customer needs.

What is more, now fully immersed in the ‘Digital Globalisation’ phase, JCM continues to innovate to offer a more efficient and competitive service throughout the industry's entire chain of value.

JCM is currently managing new connectivity challenges by offering a cloud service for optimum, more secure control over installations. This is to make a future where digital integration creates Installations 4.0 with the company's guarantee and experience.

With JCM, the installer or maintenance manager can comfortably and securely connect to their installations to access the community.

They will be the only ones to view information and change parameters with the devices, guaranteeing control over the installation and keeping third parties from manipulating them.

This saves time and money in installation maintenance, all while providing more secure access which also prevents misunderstandings with clients.

Moreover, JCM allows the installer to verify the status and operation of the door, manage activation hours, and leave it open during times with maximum traffic, avoiding unnecessary wear on the door and motor.

They may also manage operator groups, register or cancel remote controls and tags, and modify staff or worker routes. They can also obtain statistics and information on use, as well as view installation behaviour to schedule upcoming maintenance according to needs.

Another advantage for installers is that, when they need to, they can view the access log, manage users, receive notifications on suspicious operations, and manage hours and access on holidays.

In short, the best part is not having to travel to resolve incidents or receive calls caused by outside intrusions.

Joan Bonache says:

“You can immediately provide a response, from any location and instantaneously, and save time and money and increase customer satisfaction.”

All who wish to know more about a future in smart installations can contact us at aserra@jcm-tech.com or through your trusted dealer.
