Drive and Control Solutions for Challenging Environments from GfA UK Ltd

Since the EU Waste Framework Directive came into force almost ten years ago there have been some major changes to the way waste is dealt with in the UK. This has led to some significant challenges for commissioning agents and door companies called upon to supply suitable products for these difficult environments.

With waste transfer sites storing household waste that’s started the decomposition process (creating both heat and water vapour) leading to high humidity levels coupled with a mildly corrosive atmosphere the drive and control solutions used on the doors are under an unprecedented level of strain.

From experience, GfA know many door drive units and controls have failed in this environment.

Safedrive 75/24 to IP65i specification

In answer to these challenges, GfA has developed IP65i which is an enhanced IP65 drive unit range.

Their drive units in the main are IP65 which offers protection against limited water ingress whereas the IP65i goes one step further, preventing damage caused by the ingress of water vapour, which later condenses out leading to short circuits in the limit switches.

In addition the IP65i drive units feature either specially coated or stainless steel hollow shafts and foot mountings, stainless steel hand chain and a special protective coating finish.

IP65i enhanced protection is available on GfA Safedrive® models from 350 – 1400Nm and GfA Ranger models for roller shutter and sectional overhead doors.

Find out more about the IP65i on the GfA website – www.gfa-elektromaten.co.uk or contact GfA to request a product datasheet.
